Howard S. Hinman

Howard S. Hinman, 91, of Grand Island died Friday, June 1, 2012 at The Grand Island Veterans Hospital.

A memorial service will be at 5 p.m. Tuesday at All Faiths Funeral Home Chapel, with visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Private family burial will take place the following day.

Mr. Hinman was born icon September 1, 1920, at Madrid, IA, the son of Sherman and Nora (Fairchild) Hinman.

Those left to cherish his memory are his son and his wife, Jim and Rene Hinman of Grand Island; a sister, Mildren Huss of Iowa City, IA; four grandchildren and their spouses, Jessica and Tom Hughes of Lincoln, Sarah Hinman, Andrew and Shannon Hinman of Omaha and Chris and Michael Stafford of Grand Island; a sister in law, Marian Hinman of Omaha; a close personal friend and companion, Freda Traill of Grand Island and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine (Olson) Hinman, his parents; a son and daughter in law, Steve and Janet Hinman; two brothers and a sister in law, Bernard Hinman and Carl and Virginia Hinman; and a brother in law, Ed Huss.

Howard grew up in Madrid, IA. He graduated from Madrid High School and received his business degree from the Grand Island School of Business. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II from March of 1943 to January of 1946, with having spent part of that time as a prisoner of war, and also served several years in the U.S. Air Force Reserves.

He married Catherine Olson on September, July, 21 1943 and they made their home in Grand Island.

After his military service, Howard was employed at Sears and Robuck and Nitzel and Co. before becoming the owner and operator of Hinman Realty and Insurance in Grand Island. Howard flew a P-51, which was named for his wife “Catherine III”, in the 357 th Fighter Corp. He served from Cadet School and through combat with his close personal friends Chuck Yeager and Bud Anderson.

He was a charter member of the Saddle Club and was a member of the Elks Club, VFW, and the American Legion. He served on the Hall County Board of Supervisors, later becoming Chairman and serving on the Hall County Regional Airport Board of Directors, also later becoming Chairman, prior to becoming Airport Manager.

Memorials are suggested to the VA Medical Center-Grand Island Community Living Center.

Mark A. Hjorth

Mark A. Hjorth, 53, of Lincoln, formerly of Doniphan died unexpectedly Saturday, June 16, 2012 in Lincoln.

Service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 23 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Doniphan. Reverend Rod Armon will officiate. Burial will be in Cedarview Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-7:30 p.m. Friday at the church. All Faiths Funeral Home of Grand Island is serving the family.

Mark was born icon January 26, 1959 at Norfolk, the son of Orval and Mavis (Nebola) Hjorth.

Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Amber Smalley of Lincoln and her friend, Marcus Ramer; his mother, Mavis and sister and brother-in-law, Hope (Terry) Lienemann of Doniphan.

He is also survived by his aunt, Delores Nebola of Albuquerque, New Mexico and nephews, Travis Lienemann of Doniphan, Shawn Lienemann of Kearney and Jared Lienemann of Doniphan.

He was preceded in death by his father, Orval on May 17, 2011 and a brother, Brent.

Mark was raised in Stanton and Doniphan, attending school in Doniphan, where he was active in Powerlifting. He graduated with Doniphan Class of 1977.

Mark was an avid gardener. He will be remembered for his love for his daughter and his family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family to be designated at a later date.

Judith Ann (Judy) Holling

Judith Ann (Judy) Holling, 66 of Grand Island died Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha with her family by her side.

Celebration of life service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church in Grand Island. The Reverend Caroline Price-Gibson will officiate. Burial of ashes will be at a later date in the Red Cloud Cemetery.

At Judy’s request cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. All Faiths Funeral Home of Grand Island is serving the family.

Mrs. Holling was born icon April 7, 1946 at Inavale, Nebraska the daughter of Carl and Opal (Merrill) Bliss.

She is survived by her husband Mike; sons and daughters-in-law, Joel and Buffy Holling and John and Amanda Holling all of Grand Island; brother and sister-in-law, Quentin and Rosemary Bliss of Valley, NE and sister and brother-in-law, Jeané and Rick Mitzelfelt of Greenwood, Colorado.

Those also left to cherish her memory are her loving grandchildren, Brenden, Joey, Marcus, Riley and Maxton.

Her son, Jeffrey Holling and her parents welcomed her into heaven.

Judy was raised on the family farm south of Inavale. She attended country school and graduated from Red Cloud High School, class of 1964. She attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

On August 12, 1965 she was united in marriage to Mike Holling. They made their home in Grand Island where Judy worked and retired from Home Federal Bank following 27 years of service.

She is a member of First Presbyterian Church. Judy enjoyed traveling; and having been raised on a farm she had a great love for the outdoors. She was a wonderful wife, mother and especially loved her grandchildren and attending their activities.

A memorial fund will be established in memory of Judy.

Eldon H. Howard

Eldon H. Howard, 76, of Grand Island, died Monday, February 13, 2012 at St. Francis Medical Center.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary’s Cathedral. The Reverend Richard Piontkowski will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Thursday at All Faiths Funeral Home in Grand Island with a Rosary at 7 p.m.

Eldon was born icon July 18, 1935 at home in Madison Square Community of Loup County, the son of Jack and Agnes (Kamery) Howard. He was raised in the Custer and Loup County areas, graduating from Sargent High School, class of 1952. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in 1960.

Following his time in the service he was united in marriage to Margaret Gruber on December 31, 1960 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sargent, NE. Eldon spent five years in construction, having to move and relocate often. He and Margaret had four wonderful children born icon in three different states South Dakota, Kansas, and New Mexico. He later moved his family to Sargent where he operated Howard Feed along with his parents. This eventually led to his trucking career where he owned and operated Howard’s Trucking, until he retired after 37 years. After retirement Eldon took on a new role as the Business Manager of Howard Psychiatric Services in Hastings.

Some of Eldon’s enjoyments included his grandchildren, his mules and Welsh ponies, trail rides, especially his family trail rides, family reunions, and collecting antique farm equipment.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Cathedral, Platt Duetsche and the Harness Hustlers, where he enjoyed the many valuable friendships he made.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of over 50 years, Margaret; children and their spouses, Dr. Susan Howard and Jeffrey Thies of Hastings, Steven and Stephanie Howard of Omaha, Thomas and Sarah Howard of Columbia, MO and Barbara and Andrew Monson of Lincoln; one sisters, Elaine Zurek of Omaha; and two brothers, Jerry Howard of Red Oak, IA and Gale Howard and Karen O’Dell of Bruno, NE;.

Those also left to cherish his memory include his grandchildren, Benjamin Howard, Madeline Howard, Hannah Monson, Amelia Howard, Carter Monson, Nicholas Howard, Joseph Howard, Timothy Thies, Meghan Thies, Grace Monson and numerous extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a nephew, Bruce Zurek; sister in law, Shannon Howard and Bonnie Hoffheins; and a brother in law, Dennis Zurek.

A memorial fund will be established in Eldon’s name.

Katherine E. Johnson

Katherine E. Johnson, 93, of Grand Island, died Thursday, March 22, 2012, at Tiffany Square.

The Memorial Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 24 at St. Pauls Lutheran Church. The Reverend Bill Pavuk will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at All Faiths Funeral Home in Grand Island, NE.

Katherine was born icon on January 31, 1919 at Omaha, NE, the daughter of Frank and Helen (Stevenson) Frahm. Her mother was married to Edward Schumacher in 1922. At that time they moved to Chicago, IL, later returning to Council Bluffs, IA in 1929.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Susan and her husband, Ed Richards and Diane Johnson all of Grand Island.

Those also left to cherish her memory are her grandchildren, Mindy and her husband, John Troshynski of Omaha, and Barry Richards of Omaha; and four great grand children, Ben and Kylie Katherine Troshynski and Braxtyn and Camdyn Richards and their mother Shawna Richards.

She was welcomed into heaven by her parents.

Katherine was raised in Council Bluffs and graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1937. After graduation she worked for Council Bluffs Mutual Building and Loan for 17 years. Katherine Schumacher and Albert W. Johnson were married September 14, 1940 at Council Bluffs, IA. While raising her family she worked part time at various companies until moving to Grand Island in 1959. In 1963 she started working at Home Federal Savings and Loan as a teller. She retired in 1984 as Savings Supervisor and Assistant Vice President. After retiring she worked part time in the office at Chrysalis Lutheran Homes from 2002 until 2007.

She enjoyed bowling, fishing and watching cooking channels. She especially loved spending time with her family.

She is a member of the St. Pauls Lutheran Church, Rebecca Circle, the Liederkranz, and the Order of Eastern Star for 73 years.

Memorials are suggested to the St. Pauls Lutheran Church or the Central Nebraska Humane Society.

James L. 'Jim' Kawata

James L. ‘Jim’ Kawata, 59, of Grand Island, died Sunday, February 26, 2012, at home.

A memorial service will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, March 5 at All Faiths Funeral Home. Dan Naranjo will officiate.

Jim was born icon April 10, 1952, at Ord, NE, the son of Jiro ‘Joe’ Kawata and Dolores (Hurlbert) Kawata. He grew up in Grand Island, graduating from Grand Island Senior High School in 1971.

He enjoyed golf, going to the horse races, tennis, hunting, collecting stamps and coins, and enjoyed artwork, especially photography. Jim was also active in little league baseball and was a coach for the youth basketball at the YMCA.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Ryan and his fiancé Jamie Swartz of Lincoln, Kayla and her husband Thomas Hudiburgh of Ogallala, Justin Kawata of Grand Island and Nolan Kawata of Grand Island; brothers and their wives, Jeff and Ann Kawata of Broken Bow and David Kawata of Greeley, CO; and a sister and her husband, Cathy and Ron Christensen of Grand Island.

Those also left to cherish his memory are a granddaughter, Halle Hudiburgh and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Alfred 'AL' H. Kincheloe

Alfred ‘Al’ H. Kincheloe, 87, of Grand Island, died Friday, April 21, 2012, at home.

The Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 25 at All Faiths Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at All Faiths Funeral Home in Grand Island, NE.

Alfred was born icon on October 12, 1924 at Lexington, NE, the son of Henry and Ida (Colb) Kincheloe.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 66 years, Dorothy; daughters Sherryl Kincheloe-Noble of Grand Island; and sons and their spouses, Jerry (Rennie) Kincheloe of Sumner, NE and Gale (Wanda) Kincheloe of Grand Island.

Those also left to cherish his memory are his grandchildren, Lori and Greg Kincheloe, Troy Olsen (Meagan Stover), Bruce Noble and Fawnda little; and 6 great grandchildren.

He was welcomed into heaven by his parents; a sister, Marjorie Adle; brother, Jerry Kincheloe, granddaughter, Kimberly Olsen and a son in law, Bruce Noble.

Alfred was raised in Lexington and married Dorothy Ottman on August 27, 1945. Alfred and Dorothy lived in Lexington until their move to Grand Island in 1958, where they made their home. He joined the U.S. Army, serving from May of 1943 to July of 1945.

He enjoyed embroidery work, wood crafts, and he loved to fish.

Alfred is a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, DAV, and VFW.

Memorials are suggested to the family.
