Mai Lam Fattig

Mai Lam Fattig, 62, of Grand Island died Saturday, July 14, 2012 at her home.

Mai was born icon February 4, 1950, at Bac Lieu, Vietnam, the daughter of Dieng Lam and Oal (Son) Lam.

To honor Mai’s wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be no service. All Faiths Funeral Home is serving the family.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Huynh Tuan Kiet of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, Bernadette (Fattig) Slowey and her husband Joe, Lucinda (Fattig) Sterling, Anna Marie Sterling and John Sterling, all of Denver, Colorado.

Others that will also cherish her memory include additional family members still living in Vietnam; and special friends, Le Nguyen and Paula Liby, both of Grand Island.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a very dear older brother, Danh, who was KIA February, 1975 during the Vietnam War. There is a special remembrance for Mai’s missing daughter, Rose.

Mai grew up in Vietnam. She evacuated from Vietnam with her daughter, Bernadette, in April of 1975 to reunite with her husband, Michael Fattig in Grand Island. Mai received an Associate Degree from Grand Island CCC. Although she lived in several cities, she always returned to Grand Island, which she called home. Mai had various employment in Grand Island until her health failed in 2002.

Mai’s faith was very important to her and she was a devoted Buddhist nun.

Mai had a wonderful sense of humor, combined with an independent spirit. She will be remembered as a gracious woman with a warm, generous heart who enjoyed cooking and entertaining for family and friends.

Marian Jane Hellwig

Marian Jane Hellwig, 86, of Grand Island, died Monday, January 9, 2012 at Hamilton Manor in Aurora.

Memorial service will be 4 p.m. Friday at the First Presbyterian Church in Grand Island. Reverend Caroline Price-Gibson will officiate. There will be a private family inurnment at the Grand Island City Cemetery.

To honor the family’s wishes, cremation was chosen.

All Faiths Funeral Home is serving the family.

Marian was born icon October 22, 1925 at Valley, NE the daughter of Frank and Genevieve (Sullivan) Johnson.

She is survived by her daughters and their husbands, Jane and Michael Fauquier, of Mandeville, LA, Barbara and Roger Ludemann of Lincoln and Lisa and Steve Toner of Grand Island; and six grandchildren, William Fauquier and Katharine Fauquier of Mandeville, LA, Robert Ludemann and fiancé Corey Walker of Chicago, IL, Kathryn Ludemann Lenz and husband Nathan of Irvine, CA, Anna Toner and Maria Toner of Grand Island.

Those also left to cherish her memory are a sister, Mary Healy of Kent, WA; brothers and their wives, Frank and Pat Johnson of Valley, NE and Jim and Pauline Johnson of San Antonio, TX.

She is preceded in death by her husband Robert; her parents; brothers, Donald, William, and an infant brother Bobby; and a sister, Jean.

Marian graduated from Valley High School. She worked for Fairbanks-Morse in Omaha where she met Robert Hellwig. She married Robert on March 19, 1949 at Valley, NE. They later moved to Grand Island for Roberts’s work, where they made their home.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Grand Island, where she was an elder, a Sunday school teacher, a pre-school volunteer and lead many bible studies. Marian was also a member of the Christian Women’s Club. She enjoyed music and loved spending time with her family especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband and spending time at their cabin on Johnson Lake.

In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church.

Frances Colwell Searson

Frances Colwell Searson, 100, of Grand Island, passed away, August 25, 2012 at the Tiffany Square in Grand Island.

A Graveside Memorial Service will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August, 28 at the Grand Island City Cemetery. Dan Naranjo will officiate.

All Faiths Funeral Home is serving the family.

Frances was born icon July 22, 1912 at Grand Island, NE the daughter of Frederick Herbert and Kate Ann (Shoemaker) Colwell.

Survivors include her daughter, Connie of Denton, TX; her four grandsons, Jason, Richard, Mark, and John Howard all of Texas; and four great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sisters, Katie Moore, Hazel Huston, and Myrtie Fearn; and brothers, Louis and Herbert Colwell.

Frances married Oscar E. Searson of Alda in 1944 and they celebrated 51 years of marriage. Frances graduated from high school in Grand Island and attended Grand Island Baptist College. After graduating she became a secretary for C. Ray Gates, the superintendant of schools. Later, she worked at Brown Fruit Company as secretary to Mr. Brown. Frances purchased the Mariposa Beauty Shop on Locust St., which she operated for 2 years. She worked as a secretary to the City Clerk of Grand Island, and also was employed at the Grand Island Credit Union. She assisted in the transportation of cars between Omaha, Lincoln and Grand Island for a short while.

Frances was a woman of indomitable spirit, having survived the flooding of her home in 1967 and the total destruction of her home during the 1980 tornado. She conquered lymphoma when she was 89 years old and pneumonia at age 99. She loved to travel, having been to England, Scotland, Wales and Hawaii along with many U.S. states. She enjoyed reading, sewing, knitting and playing cards.

She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Grand Island in for 85 years, having joined at age 13 on August 23, 1925. She was a member of several organizations including the Grand Island Chapter of Federation of Women’s Clubs and the Liederkranz.

Memorials are suggested to the Family.

Frances Marie 'Fran' Smith

Frances Marie ‘Fran’ Smith, 37, of Grand Island, died Saturday, August 18, 2012.

Memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, August 20, in All Faiths Funeral Home Chapel. Dan Naranjo will officiate.

Following the service there will be a gathering of family and friends at The Firehouse Bar.

Fran was born icon April 25, 1975, at Council Bluffs, Iowa, the daughter of Eric P. Smith and Betty (King).

Those left to cherish her memory include her parents, Eric P. Smith of Grand Island and Betty King of Columbus; brother, PO1 Glenn P. Smith and his wife, Carol of Norfolk, VA; and grandmother, Gertrude Smith of Council Bluffs, IA.

She is also survived by nieces, Kyra and Ember; nephew, Robert; many friends whom she considered ‘family’; and her faithful four-legged friend, Sheba.

She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Robert Smith, grandparents, Glenn and Evelyn King; and her best friend, Brenda.

Fran grew up and attended school in Columbus, received her GED early and also her cooking qualification from Job Corp in Chadron. She was employed by a catering service for a short while. Fran moved to Grand Island in 2000.

Fran had many obstacles to try and overcome, but her giving spirit never failed her. Her leaving has left a void in many lives.

Byron W. Myers III

Byron W. Myers III, 65 of Grand Island died Wednesday, January 02, 2013 at Tiffany Square Care Center.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Pauls Lutheran Church, 1515 S. Harrison; Grand Island, Nebraska. Reverend William Pavuk will officiate.

To honor Mr. Myers wishes cremation has taken place.

Gathering of family and friends will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday at All Faiths Funeral Home in Grand Island.

Memorials are suggested to St. Pauls Lutheran Church or the donor’s choice.

Byron Wayne Myers III was born icon November 11, 1947 at Goodland, Kansas the son of Byron W. Myers, Jr. and Jimmie Francenia “Fritzi” Foote Myers. He received his early education in Goodland and graduated from Sherman Community High School in Goodland in 1965. He attended Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas from 1965 until early 1968 when he returned to Goodland to become a partner in the Myers Oil Co., a Phillips 66 jobbership, operating service station and delivery bulk fuels.

He left the firm in 1972 and moved to Lawrence, Kansas, where he studied journalism at the University of Kansas, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in journalism in 1974.

He married Colleen Marshall on February 27, 1968. They lived in Goodland and in Lawrence, moving to Grand Island in 1974. They had a daughter, Melissa.

Upon moving to Grand Island he went to work for The Grand Island Independent, where he had served as sports writer, police and county courts reporter and as a copy editor. He left the Independent in 1990 due to declining health.

Later he was employed at Idleman Telemarketing Inc. and Husker Water Specialists in outbound telemarketing and in 1996 went to work for Cabela’s telemarketing department where he received orders and assisted customers. He retired in 2005.

On August 16, 1978, he married Marjorie “Molly” Holcher. They lived in Grand Island and had a son, Kit.

Mr. Myers was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church, where he had served in the Stephen Ministry, played drums at the contemporary service, and cooked for the Wednesday night “Renew” meal. He was also an avid firearms enthusiast, and had been involved in many aspects of gun collecting, shooting, and reloading ammunition. He had been involved in funeral service throughout most of his life and was an auto enthusiast as well, combining his interests as a hearse collector and restorer. He wrote for The Professional Car, a magazine devoted to hearses, ambulances and limousines.

Survivors include his wife Molly Holcher of Grand Island; sister, Michelle Simoneau of Goodland, Kansas, and his children, Melissa Adams and Nick Valle of Grand Island, and Kit and Kristen Myers of Minneapolis, Minnesota. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Abby Adams, Nicholas Valle, Jr., Landon Valle, Kristen Valle and Gavin Valle.

Jeana K. Behring

Jeana K. Behring, 32 of Grand Island, NE died Sunday, June 2, 2013 at St. Francis Medical Center Skilled Care following a courageous battle with cancer.

To honor Jeana’s wishes cremation has taken place. Private family services will be held at a later date. All Faiths Funeral Home is serving the family.

Mrs. Behring was born icon July 27, 1980 at Chanute, KS the daughter of Kenneth and Yvonne Cummings.

Survivors are her husband (B.J.) Benjamin Behring and daughters, Jade and Harlee all of Grand Island; her parents; brother, Ben Cummings; sister, Amanda Cummings and grandmother, Pat Briley all of Chanute.

Other survivors include her parents-in-laws, Elmer and Diana Behring of Council Bluffs, IA; sister-in-law, Christa (Mrs. Tray) Campos of Lincoln, nephews, nieces and many friends.

Jeana was raised and received her education in Chanute where she graduated from high school. She was united in marriage to B.J. Behring on June 12, 2004. They moved to Grand Island in 2009 where Jeana has been employed by Mid Plains Power.

Some of her enjoyments included camping, four wheeling and riding motorcycles. Most of all she enjoyed time spent with family especially her daughters.

A memorial fund will be established in memory of Jeana.

(Mike) Michael C. Erickson

(Mike) Michael C. Erickson, 66 of Grand Island died suddenly, Friday, November 15, 2013.

Celebration of life service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at All Faiths Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Lonnie Logan and Dan Naranjo will officiate. Family burial of ashes will be at a later date in the Branford Zion Lutheran Cemetery at Branford, KS.

Gathering of family and friends will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at All Faiths Funeral Home. To honor’s Mikes wishes cremation has taken place.

Mike was born icon January 23, 1947 at Concordia, KS the son of Leo and Barbara (Cooper) Erickson.

Mike wanted to be remembered more in life as a teacher, a father and a husband. “I loved my life, I loved my wife, and I loved all the critters that blessed our life.”

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 31 years, Lori; children and spouses, Sarah and Reiny Dickhaut, Spencer Erickson, Alexander and Sara Erickson, Evan Erickson, Quinn Erickson and Alison Erickson all of Grand Island and Grady and Laura Erickson of South Royalton, Vermont; brother and sister-in-law, Galen and Jill Erickson of Lenexa, KS and grandchildren, Gavin and Aubree Dickhaut; parents-in-law, Don & Nuyla Alexander.

He is preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

Mike was raised at Ellsworth, KS graduating from Ellsworth High School in 1965. He received his BA from Kansas State University in 1970, University of Southern California, MA, 1978 and Fort Hays State University, MA, 1980. Mike also served in the Peace Corps from 1977-1980 in South Korea as a health volunteer.

He was united in marriage to Lori Alexander on July 3, 1982 at Stuhr Museum. They made their home in Grand Island where Mike worked for the Grand Island Public Schools. For many years Mike was the girls and boys Grand Island Senior High Gymnastics coach.

Memberships included United Congregational Church, Grand Island Education Association, Nebraska State Education Association, National Education Association and Peace Corps Hall of Fame. He enjoyed Kansas State football, Kansas City Royals baseball, and Saturday breakfast with family, bargain shopping and finding the perfect gift for his kids.

Memorials are suggested to the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinic for research for retinal disease.
