Earl Reimers

GRAND ISLAND - Earl M. Reimers, 67, of Grand Island, formerly of Dannebrog and Wolbach, died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2007, at Wedgewood Care Center in Grand Island.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Peters Funeral Home in St. Paul. Pastor Barry Arndt will officiate. Inurnment will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Dannebrog.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Mr. Reimers was born icon March 21, 1940, on the family farm near Dannebrog to Magelland and Myrtle (Fred) Reimers.

Survivors of the immediate family include three sons, Todd Reimers of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Tim Reimers of Grand Island and Toby Reimers and his partner, John Fuller of Atlanta; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Tracie Garrison and Tabatha and James Wagner, all of Grand Island and Teena and Allen Rosenquist of Dannebrog; and two sisters, Ruth Geiger of Aurora, Colo., and Evelyn Taylor of Ravenna.

He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and a great-granddaughter; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

As a child, Earl lived with his family in California before returning to Nebraska, where they lived at Odessa and the Buckeye Valley near Kearney, before settling on a farm near St. Libory. He was a 1957 graduate of St. Paul High School.

He was united in marriage to Carole Poppert on April 8, 1962, at Dannebrog. The couple first lived in Grand Island, where Earl worked for Mettenbrink Farms and also farmed with his father. The couple later bought a farm near St. Libory where they raised their six children. Earl had the first Grade A dairy farm in Howard County.

He worked as a carpenter in St. Paul before moving to Aurora, Colo., in the early 1980s. He later moved to a farm at Wolbach and worked for Chief Industries in Grand Island. He retired and moved to Council Bluffs in 2005 and had recently moved back to Grand Island.

He was a member of the Baptist faith. He was a former leader of the St. Libory Sandhillers 4-H club and had received the Outstanding Dairyman Award from the Nebraska Department of Agriculture in 1992.

He enjoyed horses, farm animals, working on the farm, carpentry and helping out others.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Dorothy Hayes and Gladys Sands.

Memorials are suggested to the family to be given to the Howard County 4-H program.

Lyle Sabata

AURORA - Lyle Sabata, 53, of Aurora died Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2007, at Bryan LGH East.

Services are pending with Solt Funeral Home in Central City.

Paul Vodehnal

Paul P. Vodehnal, 95, of Grand Island died Wednesday, July 19, 2006, at the Grand Island Veterans Home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Resurrection Catholic Church, with the Rev. Mike McDermott officiating. Burial will be in the Grand Island Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island, with a rosary at 7.

Mr. Vodehnal was born icon June 24, 1911, at Ord to John S. and Frances M. (Ptacnik) Vodehnal.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Vodehnal.

Survivors of the immediate family include a son and daughter-in-law, Vernon C. and Louise Vodehnal of Grand Island; two brothers, Lloyd Vodehnal and Martin Vodehnal, both of Grand Island; and two sisters, Valasta White of Connecticut and Lorraine Levitt of York.

Additional survivors include four grandchildren, Marsha and Eric Edquist of Arvada, Colo., Mike and Julie Vodehnal of Olathe, Kan.; and two great-grandchildren, Brett and Luke of Olathe.

He grew up in Valley County and received his education at District 52 Valley County. He entered the United States Army on Feb. 19, 1941, serving during World War II. He served with the 424th Infantry in the European African Middle Eastern Theatre and received the Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal and the American Defense Service Ribbon. He was honorably discharged on Oct. 6, 1945.

He was united in marriage to Wilma A. Kluge on Feb. 10, 1947, at Smith Center, Kan. The couple resided in the Grand Island area, where he was employed at the Peterson & Briggs Truckline as a driver. He retired from Briggs Trucking in 1975. Mrs. Vodehnal preceded him in death on Feb. 26, 2000.

He was a member of Resurrection Catholic Church, VFW, Eagles, American Legion Club and the Grand Island Teamsters.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, August Vodehnal and Otto Vodehnal; and four sisters, Olga Kneelend, Elizabeth Volf, Martha Lowell and Stacia Clark.

Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.

Benny Stutzman

HASTINGS - Benny Stutzman, 50, of Hastings died Friday, Oct. 19, 2007, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.

A private family memorial service was held Oct. 22 at Peace Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Carl H. Rehwaldt officiating. Private family burial will be at a later date. Livingston-Butler-Volland Funeral Home & Cremation Center is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Stutzman was born icon Oct. 28, 1956, in Portland, Ore., to George H. and Roberta "Ilene" (Hickman) Stutzman.

Survivors of the immediate family include two daughters, Tara Stutzman of Lincoln and Skylar Sheppard of Manhattan, Kan.; father and stepmother, George H. and Marjorie Stutzman of Kearney; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, George and Carolyn Stutzman of Wamego, Kan., Robert and Helen Stutzman of O'Neil and Jodi Stutzman of Soldier, Kan.; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Susan and John Hultman of Larkspur, Colo., Shirley Bigelow of Clarks and Sherry Schultz of Israel; and a special friend, Denise Schneider of Hastings.

Marjorie Hunzeker

WAHOO - Marjorie Ruth Hunzeker, 81, of Wahoo died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2007, at her home.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church in Wahoo, with the Rev. Patrick Marshall officiating. Inurnment will be at Sunrise Cemetery in Wahoo.

Pruss-Nabity Funeral Home of Wahoo is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hunzeker was born icon Oct. 10, 1926, in Douglas, Wyo., to Arthur and Ruth (Hamel) Rogers.

Survivors of the immediate family include her husband, Willard of Wahoo; a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Pam of Lincoln; a daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Roger Pelster of Mead; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Verna Handley of Lead, S.D., Phyllis and Jim Finkle of Los Gatos, Calif., and Linda and Gene Cattau of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; and a brother and sister-in-law, Max and Marian Rogers of Scottsbluff.

Additional survivors include grandsons, Christopher (Flora) Hunzeker of New York City, Jake Rickard of Omaha, Erik Rickard of St. Louis and granddaughter, Shanna (fianc Judah Musick) Hunzeker of Portland, Ore.

Marjorie attended school in Peru, graduating from Peru Prep High School and Peru State College. On Aug. 10, 1946, she married Willard F. Hunzeker in Hot Springs, S.D. They made their homes in Falls City, Humboldt, Endicott, Fullerton and Wahoo. Marjorie taught elementary grades at Shubert, DuBois, Fullerton and Wahoo and was also a homemaker. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she served two terms on the Session, and was also a member of the Philanthropic Education Organization. Marjorie enjoyed quilting, sewing and other handiwork, and was a member of the Krazy Quilters, a group that created a unique quilt as a fundraiser for the Wahoo Public Library. Marjorie was a loving, caring wife, mother and grandmother.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.

Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church or Wahoo Public Library.

Harold Petersen

ST. PAUL - Harold C. Petersen, 91, of St. Paul died Friday, Oct. 19, 2007, at Heritage Living Center in St. Paul.

Peters Funeral Home of St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.

Hugo Mollenhof

ANSLEY - Hugo Mollenhof, 92, of Ansley, formerly of Mason City, died Monday, Oct. 15, 2007, at his home.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Mason City Cemetery in Mason City, with the Rev. Mark Joedeman officiating. Burial will be in Mason City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.

Mr. Mollenhof was born icon Jan. 9, 1915, south of Mason City to Nikoleus and Emma (Hoppner) Mollenhof.

Louie Kaslon

LOUP CITY - Louie P. Kaslon, 93, of Loup City died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2007, at the Howard County Hospital in St. Paul.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Josaphat's Catholic Church in Loup City, with the Rev. Martin Egging officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Loup City.

Higgins Funeral Home in Loup City is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Kaslon was born icon Dec. 24, 1913, at Ashton to Frank J. and Theophelia (Woitalewicz) Kaslon.

Survivors of the immediate family include his wife, Helen of Loup City; five sons and daughters-in-law, Arnold and Lillian, Larry and Sharon and Kenny (Zeke) and Marcia, all of Loup City, Leonard and Barbara of Grand Island and Bob and Francie of Burwell; and a daughter, Delores Roy of Loup City.

Additional survivors include 20 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, five stepgreat-grandchildren and eight stepgreat-great-grandchildren.

He grew up in the Ashton area and attended St. Francis Parochial School. On Feb. 26, 1935, in Ravenna he married Helen Michalski. Together they farmed north of Ashton from 1935-41, and then moved and farmed north of Ravenna from 1941-47. In 1947, they moved a few miles south of Loup City where they farmed until their retirement in 2002, except for the three years in between that they resided in Bellevue, where Louie worked in construction. During his lifetime, he farmed and also worked on various construction jobs including roads, irrigation canals and municipal projects.

He was involved with 4-H as a leader, was a school board member and was a member of St. Josaphat's Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. Baseball was his favorite sport, which he played as a pitcher in his youth for area teams. He enjoyed playing several musical instruments and especially loved playing the accordion for his grandchildren. In his younger years, Louie played with area bands. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed this pastime with his family. Of all the things Louie enjoyed in life, he enjoyed spending time with his family best of all. He loved to play cards and loved to tell a good story or joke or two with anyone he visited with. He will be dearly missed by his family.

He was preceded in death by seven brothers: Stanley, John, Ed, Steve, Leo and Floyd and an infant brother, Joey; two sisters, Josie Bartusiak and Vernie Moraczewski; son-in-law, Alfred Roy and an infant great-grandson, Mathew Baker.

Memorials are suggested to the Kaslon family or donor's choice.

Roy Hilderbrand

POLK - Roy Hilderbrand Sr., 71, of Polk died Friday, Oct. 19, 2007, at Litzenberg Memorial County Hospital.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the chapel of Solt Funeral Home in Central City, with the Rev. Willis Pauls officiating. Burial will be in Fort McPherson National Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Mr. Hilderbrand was born icon Jan. 1, 1936, at Oshkosh to Hermann and Lula (Holmes) Hilderbrand.

Survivors of the immediate family include two sisters, Barbara Hesby of Milford, Iowa and Sandy and Norm Matta of Munhall, Pa.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Bob Lulow of Alliance, Cindy and Marc Haskins of Red Cloud and Laura and Tim Miller of Alma; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Dennis and Marlene Hilderbrand of Grand Island, Craig and Sue Hilderbrand of Lincoln, Roy Jr. and Cheryl Hilderbrand of Oakland and Fred Hilderbrand of Polk.

Also left to cherish his memory are 16 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Roy graduated in 1954 from Fort Lupton High School in Fort Lupton, Colo. Roy was united in marriage to Alice Mae Hughes on March 8, 1958, in Seward. Roy entered the U.S. Army on Nov. 18, 1953, and later entered the U.S. Air Force, where he served until Sept. 30, 1974. While in the military, they lived in Lincoln, Tucson, Colorado, Guam, Thailand and Alaska, before being honorably discharged at Offutt Air Force Base in Bellevue. After his discharge, they moved to Giltner in 1976 and then moved to the Central City area in 1987. They then made their home in Polk in 1991, where he remained until his death.

Roy enjoyed woodworking, fishing, hunting and gardening. But his true love was spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Gaquetta White

YORK - Gaquetta White, 90, of York, formerly of Broken Bow, died Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2007, at York General Hearthstone in York.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Christian Church in Broken Bow, with the Rev. Dan Rowlison officiating.

Burial will be in the Gates Cemetery north of Broken Bow.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.

Gaquetta White was born icon June 24, 1917, at Walworth to Everett and Lou (Coffman) Chapman.

Survivors of the immediate family include a daughter and son-in-law, Darline and Herb Rathje of York, and two sons, Harland White of Anselmo and Everett White of Merna.
