Lelia Walling
GENOA - Lelia Inez Walling, 89, of Genoa, formerly of Albion, died Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2007, at Genoa Long Term Care.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Albion, with the Rev. Timothy Stahls officiating. Burial will be in the Pine Bluffs Cemetery at Pine Bluffs, Wyo.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Levander Funeral Home in Albion.
Mrs. Walling was born
Dec. 28, 1917, near Egbert, Wyo., to Rollin and Nora Estabrook Shook.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walker Walling, and two infant sons, Charles and Larry.
Survivors of the immediate family include two sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Dixie Walling of Alda and Gary and Ann Walling of Bloomfield; and three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Viola and Robert Fryer of Newburg, Ore., Margory and Carl Baker of Branch, Mich., and Nora Rena Hatcher of Napa, Idaho.
Additional survivors include four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; sister and brothers-in-law, "Pete" and husband, Virgil Adams and Vera Walling, all of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Barb Shook of Yuma, Ariz.
Lelia was one of nine children born
to her parents. She attended Egbert schools, where she played basketball for the Egbert Bulldogs, graduating in 1935.
On June 3, 1936, Lelia was united in marriage to Walker Walling at Greeley, Colo. They lived in various places in Wyoming and Nebraska before moving to Albion in 1947.
Lelia lived more than 50 years in Albion, where she and her husband, Walker, raised their two boys. In Albion, she was very active in her church, where she held several offices and played the organ for many years. She belonged to several organizations, including the Christian Women's Club, and Royal Neighbors.
Until 2003, Lelia worked at several jobs, including secretary at PCA, Farm Bureau, KN Energy, Sentinel Buildings, and Sherwood's Computer. She delivered meals on wheels and did many other things to help as many people as she could. She also did many things that brought pleasure to others through her talents in many areas. She enjoyed oil painting, writing short stories, quilting, cake decorating, crocheting as well as working on family history. Later in life, Lelia and Walker were snowbirds and spent winters near Mission, Texas. She also has traveled in most U.S. states and some in Mexico and Europe.
Walker died in 1985. Lelia continued to live in Albion until entering the Genoa Long Term Care in August of 2003.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and three sisters.
Carmen Salinas
NEW ORLEANS - Carmen Leona Salinas, 17, of New Orleans died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2007, in New Orleans.
Family graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Gibbon Riverside Cemetery.
There will be no visitation. Godberson Mortuary of Gibbon/Shelton is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors of the immediate family include her mother, Estella Salinas, and stepfather, Harmon Meeker, of Houston; a brother, Nick Salinas-Meeker of Houston; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Florentino Salinas of Shelton; and a great-grandmother, Phyllis Reese of Indianapolis.
Earl Reimers
Earl M. Reimers, 67, of Grand Island, formerly of Dannebrog and Wolbach, died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2007, at Wedgewood Care Center.
Services are pending with Peters Funeral Home in St. Paul.
Harold Poppe
HASTINGS - Harold H.O. Poppe, 84, of Hastings died Oct. 9, 2007, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Omaha.
Services were Oct. 12 at Zion Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Rodney Armon officiating. Burial, with military rites, was in the Parkview Cemetery at Hastings.
Livingston-Butler-Volland Funeral Home in Hastings was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Poppe was born
Jan. 25, 1923, at Carleton to Frank G. and Emma B. (Weiss) Poppe.
He was preceded in death by a son, Stanley.
Survivors of the immediate family include his wife, Lila Poppe; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Harold A. and Carol Poppe of Hastings, Steve Poppe of Ayr and Dan and Janet Poppe of Scottsdale, Ariz.; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Anette and Frank Samuelson of Stromsburg, Susan Poppe of Hastings and Michelle and Todd Bowman of Pierre, S.D.; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Dee Poppe of Hastings; five sisters and four brothers-in-law, Bernice and Milford Dorman of Hebron, Phyllis and LeRoy Wulf of Hebron, Orva and Donald Hartley of Hebron, Lula and Max Bell of Deshler and Lois Burton of Plattsmouth; and two sisters-in-law, Elvera Poppe of Deshler and Ruth Poppe of Beatrice.
Additional survivors include grandchildren and spouses, Amy and Troy Lindsley, Teresa Hill, Matt and Jessica Poppe, Dean Hill, Timaree Samuelson, Brett Poppe, Erin Poppe, Mitch Poppe, Brandon Poppe, Jeffrey Poppe, Halle Bowman, Carly Bowman; great-grandchildren, Treg Lindsley, Arika Lindsley, Brittany Hill, Morgan Hill, Jeffrey Hill, Brianna Mahoney Poppe, Braden Poppe and Isabella Poppe.
He grew up in the Carleton/Davenport area. He attended country school and high school at Carleton. Harold married Lila Blumenthal on Aug. 29, 1943, in Deshler. Harold served in the United States Navy in the South Pacific during WWII as a Boatswain's Mate Second Class, on the LST 859 from July 31, 1944, until Feb. 22, 1946. After returning from service, he worked at the United States Naval Ammunition Depot in Hastings until its closure.
He then worked at the Cornhusker Ordnance Plant in Grand Island until he retired. Harold was a life member of the VFW in Harvard. He was a member of the Harvard Volunteer Fire Department from 1954 to 1969 and a member of the Harvard School Board, served two terms as mayor and was owner of Poppe's Sundries in Harvard. He also served on the Hall County Regional Planning Commission in Doniphan. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Hastings. His hobbies included hunting, fishing and raising thoroughbred race horses.
Mr. Poppe was also preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Leonard, LaVern and Virgil; and a sister, Frances.
Louie Kaslon
LOUP CITY - Louie P. Kaslon, 93, of Loup City died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2007, at Howard County Hospital in St. Paul.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Josaphat's Catholic Church in Loup City, with the Rev. Martin Egging officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery at Loup City.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday at Higgins Funeral Home in Loup City and will continue from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church, with a vigil service and Knights of Columbus rosary at 7:30.
Vernabell Cornelius
Vernabell Cornelius, 85, of Grand Island died Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2007, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at All Faiths Funeral Home. The Rev. Carl Black will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Cornelius was born
Dec. 24, 1921, at Gibbon to Sherley and Della (Freeze) Livingston.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Cornelius, on Oct. 10, 2006.
Survivors of the immediate family include two daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Robert Heinen of Grand Island and Diane and Dave Spotanski of St. Libory; three sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Ellie Cornelius, Richard and Kathy Cornelius, all of Grand Island, and Michael and Colleen Cornelius of Ravenna.
Other survivors are 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Wayne Livingston and Sherley Livingston Jr.; and a sister, Inez Juett.
She was raised on a family farm, receiving her education at Wood River. She married Jerry Cornelius on June 29, 1948, in Omaha. They farmed near Chapman, Ravenna and St. Libory. Following her husband's death, she moved to Grand Island to live with her son and daughter-in-law.
Vernabell enjoyed cooking, embroidering, flower gardens and spending time with family.
Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association.
Thelma Brakeman
BROKEN BOW - Thelma K. Brakeman, 83, of Broken Bow died Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2007, at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Broken Bow.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Broken Bow Cemetery.
Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Brakeman was born
May 23, 1924, at Anselmo to William and Gladys (Bruner) Ballenger.
She was preceded in death by husband, Ernest Brakeman, and a son, Rodney "Buzz" Brakeman.
Survivors of the immediate family include daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Ted Baillie of Broken Bow; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Tiny Brakeman of Colona, Ill., and Dennis and Deb Brakeman of Broken Bow; and a daughter-in-law, Mary Brakeman of Americus, Kan.

Leo Ryan
LITCHFIELD - Leo Ryan, 86, of Litchfield died Monday, Oct. 15, 2007, at home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Broken Bow, with the Rev. Jim Hunt officiating. Burial with military honors will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow, with a Christian wake service at 6 at the church.
Mr. Ryan was born
Aug. 7, 1921, at Merna to John and Ellen (Mullen) Ryan.
Survivors of the immediate family include his wife, Patty Ryan; nine sons and seven daughters-in-law, Ed and Joan Ryan of Plattsmouth; Maurice and Jacki Ryan of Broken Bow, Tom and Alice Ryan of Ansley, Bob and Linda Ryan of Miller, Randy and Shirley Ryan of Overton, Mike and Rashelle Ryan of Berwyn, Steve Ryan of Overton, Lynn and Kinsy Ryan of Ansley and Scott Ryan of Lincoln; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sheri and Dan Jones of Broken Bow and Lori and Craig Call of Mullen; and a brother, Mack Ryan of Gothenburg.
Megan Henneberg
MORTON, Ill. - Megan C. Henneberg, 25, of Thompsons Station, Tenn., formerly of Morton, Ill., died Friday, Oct. 12, 2007, at home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at New Life Christian Church in Morton, with the Revs. Bob Wells and Bob See officiating. Burial will be in the Hirstein Cemetery at Morton.
Visitation will be from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Thursday at the church. Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home in Morton is handling arrangements.
Megan Henneberg was born
April 25, 1982, at St. Louis, Mo., to Michael and Margaret Sullivan Harms.
Survivors of the immediate family include her husband, Brian Henneberg; her parents of Morton; a brother and sister-in-law, Patrick and Sarah Harms of Bourbonnais, Ill.; and two sisters, Michelle Harms of Chicago and Lindsey Harms of Morton.
Additional survivors include paternal grandparents, Roger and Kathy Harms of Grand Island and Anita and Douglas Ross of Minneapolis, Minn.
She married Brian Henneberg on June 5, 2004, in Morton.
She was a 2004 graduate of Olivet Nazarene University, where she received a bachelor of science degree in nursing. Megan was employed as a nurse at Vanderbilt University Hospital in Nashville, Tenn., for three years.
She was a member of the People's Church in Franklin, Tenn.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents.
