Rose Ann Jacobsen

Rose Ann Jacobsen, 90, of Grand Island died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2007, at St. Francis Medical Center.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Messiah Lutheran Church. The Revs. Sheri Lodel and Ellen Ann Campbell will officiate. Burial will be in Grand Island City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Curran Funeral Chapel.

Mrs. Jacobsen was born icon Aug. 19, 1917, at Columbus to Herman D. and Reminnie D. (Michaelsen) Schmidt.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Jacobsen.

Survivors of the immediate family include two daughters and sons-in-law, Rosella and Glen Daugherty of Hastings and Joyce and Bill Ryan of Grand Island; and a sister, Margaret E. Hessel of Grand Island.

Additional survivors include eight grandchildren, Rochelle Atchity, Marla Anders, Alan Daugherty, Jane Hultquist, Cheryl Rooney, Steve Ryan, Cindy Willey and Jeffrey Ryan; great-grandchildren, Jason, Giann and Katie Willey, Vince, Victor and Elizabeth Ryan, Sarah and Connor Rooney, Evan and Kayleigh Ryan, Charles, Nicholas, Alyssa Anders, Aimee Chipps, Jennifer Atchity, Chad and Justin Daugherty and Luke and Anna Hultquist; three stepgreat-grandchildren, Chris and Matt Peters and Michael Rochette; four great-great-grandchildren, Alexandria Chipps, Taelyr Daugherty, Sadah Rose Willey and Riley Daugherty; and a stepgreat-great-granddaughter, Savanna Rochette.

Rose Ann grew up on a farm near Palmer and graduated from Palmer High School in 1936. While in high school, Rose Ann worked as a reporter for the Palmer Journal. She married Elmer Jacobsen on Jan. 1, 1936, at Smith Center, Kan. The couple farmed near St. Paul before moving to Grand Island in 1939. She was a graduate of Reich World Wide College of Auctioneering. She was always politically active in the Grand Island community. She served as the Hall County Register of Deeds from 1963-75 and was a Hall County supervisor from 1983-87. In 1976, she ran unsuccessfully for the Nebraska Legislature. She was a member of the Nebraska Democratic Party's State Central Committee. She and Elmer were the second recipients of the Hall County Democrats Hall of Fame Award in 1990.

While serving as Register of Deeds, Rose Ann was the founder of the International Association of County Officials. During her career, she was also founder of the Grand Island Business and Professional Women's Club. The club also honored her with its Woman of the Year award. She also served as Director of the National Association of County Officials and was listed in the Who's Who in American Women. Rose Ann was a member of the National Association of Parliamentarians and was a founder of the Grand Island group.

She was one of five charter members of International Association of County Recorders, Clerks, Election Officials and Treasurers and a national director of that organization. She was appointed by Gov. Ben Nelson to serve on the Nebraska Aeronautics Commission. She served on the Highway 281 Association and on the Grand Island Downtown Development Task Force. Mr. Jacobsen died Oct. 28, 1994.

Rose Ann loved being with her family, cooking and baking for them and was an expert at making lemon pie.

She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, BPO-DOES 147, VFW Auxiliary 1347, Women's Club, Eagles Auxiliary 378, G.I. Federated Garden Club, and Danish Sisterhood.

Memorials are suggested to the Grand Island Woman's Club or Messiah Lutheran Church.

Her parents, a grandson, Michael Daugherty and two brothers, Robert L. Schmidt and Arnold H. Schmidt, also preceded her in death.

Charles Crawford

GIG HARBOR, Wash. - Charles W. Crawford, 82, of Gig Harbor, Wash., died Oct. 7, 2007.

He was raised in Grand Island, before moving to the Seattle area in 1956. Charles (also known as Bill or Charlie) attended Wasmer Grade School, Barr Jr. High School, and graduated Grand Island Senior High School in December 1942. Charles was active in swimming, gymnastics, scouts and music. He played the "bugle" in the drum and bugle corps. From age nine until he left for college, he delivered the Saturday Evening Post and Ladies' Home Journal by bicycle earning 'greenies' which he traded in for gifts.

Charles received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Iowa State College in October of 1945, enlisted in the V-12 program, served on the USS Missoula in WWII and continued in the Naval Reserves, retiring as Lieutenant Commander.

Charles was a licensed professional electrical engineer. He worked for NW Bell in Grand Island and Omaha for 10 years. He retired from the Boeing Company in 1988 with 32 years of service.

His family has many fond memories of camping trips and gatherings filled with laughter and storytelling. Everyone who met him loved him. He was active in Toastmasters, Elks, Lions and the Methodist Church. His hobbies included gardening and painting.

Charles was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Frances Jeannette Brosing, with whom he enjoyed traveling on cruises and to Elderhostel. He is survived by his sisters, Phyllis Schmidt of Grand Island and Joyce Urbom (Warren) of Lincoln; his children and their spouses, Gary and Linda Glein, Gig Harbor, Wash., Ed and Patricia Last, Colville, Wash., Charles C. Crawford, Edgewood, Wash., and Louie and Elizabeth (Betsy) Patetta, Reno, Nev.; seven grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Charles was known as a gentleman and a gentle man with a kind heart and quick wit. He will be missed by his family and the community.

James Cole

SHELTON - James J. Cole, 85, of Shelton died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2007, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Platte Valley Academy in Shelton, with Rev. Arlin Cochran officiating. Inurnment will be in Shelton Cemetery.

There will be no visitation, as Mr. Cole was cremated. Apfel Funeral Home in Wood River is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Cole was born icon May 13, 1922, in Otoe County to James Wilbur and Jeanetta Mae (Sanders) Cole.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Cole.

Survivors of the immediate family include a son, Jim Cole of Gibbon, and two daughters and sons-in-law, Tara and Steve Corder of Kannapolis, N.C., and Sara and Wayne Faye of Highlands Ranch, Colo.

Additional survivors include six grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

He grew up in the Nebraska City area and received his education from Nebraska City Public Schools. He entered the United States Army Air Corp Sept. 17, 1942, and received his discharge Feb. 8, 1947, serving during WW II earning the rank of Private First Class.

He was united in marriage to Virginia Moore on March 27, 1948, in Gibbon. They made their home in Shelton. He was employed by the Union Pacific Railroad as a section man for 22 years before retiring in 1978.

He was a life member of DAV, VFW and brotherhood Union of UPRR. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, traveling and especially casino runs. He was very mechanical and could fix just about anything.

His parents and two sisters, Ida Buchholz and Lucy Rothwell, also preceded him in death.

Memorials are suggested to Platte Valley Academy at Shelton.

Anna DeLosh

Gothenburg - Anna DeLosh, 86, of Gothenburg died Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2007, at Gothenburg Memorial Hospital in Gothenburg.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Banner Methodist Church in Gothenburg, with the Rev. Janie Freeman officiating. Burial will be in Peckham Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Friday at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel in Gothenburg.

Mrs. DeLosh was born icon Feb. 8, 1921, at Dustin to John Russell and Violet Winifred (Berry) Montgomery.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Orman DeLosh, in 1994, and a son, John.

Survivors of the immediate family include a son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Kay DeLosh of Grand Island; three daughters and sons-in-law, Arleen and Dick Newbrey of Eustis, June and Jim Sabin of Gothenburg and Lois and Dennis Beran of Grand Island; and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Ella and Glen Noonan of Maple City, Mich., and Lily and Ken Schleicker of Scottsbluff.

Additional survivors include 18 grandchildren, 29 great-grand children and many great-great grandchildren.

Anna grew up at Stuart and graduated from Stuart High School in 1939.

On May 20, 1939, at Burwell Anna married Orman DeLosh. To this union five children were born, Arleen, June, Lois, John and Richard. They made their home in the Cozad and Gothenburg area. Anna worked as a cook in Gothenburg cafes and as a nurse's aid in nursing homes in Gothenburg and Cozad. Anna loved to raise gardens and adored her flowers. She was an avid reader and enjoyed crocheting. The most important thing in Anna's life was her family, they were her world. She made sure to visit with each of her children almost daily. As much as she loved her children, she loved to tease them; Anna had a great sense of humor.

Anna was also preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Betty; a brother, Wayne; and five grandchildren.

Memorials are suggested to Gothenburg Memorial Hospital Long Term Care or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Lyle Sabata

AURORA - Lyle G. Sabata, 53, of Aurora died Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2007, at Bryan LGH East.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Stockham Community Church in Stockham, with the Rev. Paul Nauman officiating. Burial will be in Stockham Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to service time at the church. Solt Funeral Home of Central City is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Sabata was born icon May 8, 1954, in David City to Joseph B. and Elizabeth "Alice" (Koza) Sabata.

Survivors of the immediate family include his wife, Delberta of Aurora; a son and daughter-in-law, Shannon and Laura Sabata of Central City; a daughter, Crystal Sabata of Aurora; a sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Don Wittulski of Hordville; three brothers and a sister-in-law, Ray Sabata of Kronborg, Leroy Sabata of Garden City, Kan., and Russell and Lois Sabata of St. Edward.

Lyle Nehls

KEARNEY - Lyle L. Nehls, 70, of Kearney died Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2007, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at O'Brien -Straatmann Funeral Home in Kearney, with the Rev. Stan Murdoch officiating.

There will be no visitation.

Mr. Nehls was born icon March 23, 1937, at San Bernardino, Calif., to Henry and Pearl Warford Nehls.

Survivors of the immediate family include his wife, Ila of Holdrege; a son and daughter-in-law, Charlie and Retha of Nebraska City; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lillian and Joe Buettner of Holdrege and Arlene and Dennis Jensen of Kearney; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Myrtle and John Klosterman of Kearney and Maxine and Ron Johnson of Lexington, four brothers and three sisters-in-law, Leland and Virginia Nehls of Grand Island, Len and Lauren Nehls of Arcadia, Jess and Gladys Holley of Corpus Christi and Fred Nehls.

Lynnette McManus-Scott

GREELEY - Lynnette McManus-Scott, 34, of Greeley died Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2007, at her home.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Greeley Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The Rev. Joe Hannappel will officiate. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the church, with a rosary at 7. T.J. Finn and Sons Mortuary of Greeley is in charge of arrangements.

Jessie Leedom

SOUTH SIOUX CITY - Jessie F. Leedom, 82, of South Sioux City died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2007, at her residence.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Michael Catholic Church in South Sioux City, with the Rev. Daniel Wittrock officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Dakota City Cemetery.

Becker - Hunt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Leedom was born icon April 6, 1925, at Sioux City, Iowa to Joseph and Nicoletta (Stabile) Marmo.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Chet Leedom, on April 24, 1995.

Survivors of the immediate family include two sons, Chet T. Leedom and his special friend, Francy June, and Don G. "Donny" Leedom, all of South Sioux City; two daughters and a son-in-law, Patricia A. Caskey of Sgt. Bluff, Iowa and Bernie I. and Roger Zobel of Grand Island.

Ignatz Krolikowski

LOUP CITY - Ignatz Krolikowski, 81, of Loup City died Monday, Oct. 22, 2007, at St. John's Good Samaritan Center in Kearney.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis Catholic Church in Ashton, with the Rev. Martin Egging officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis Catholic Cemetery in Ashton.

Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday at Higgins Funeral Home in Loup City, and will continue from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church with a vigil service at 7.

Mr. Krolikowski was born icon July 7, 1926, at Ashton to Martin and Agnes (Tyma) Krolikowski.

Survivors of the immediate family include two sisters, Theresa Waltman of Ravenna and Esther Baker of Ashton.

He grew up in Ashton and attended school District 56 and St. Francis Parochial School. He farmed throughout his life and did some construction work.

He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Ashton.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Victor and Alozy Krolikowski and three sisters, Gertrude Waskowiak, Vernie Lubash and Lucille Gawrick.

Memorials are suggested to the Krolikowski family or donor's choice.
