Coleata Gaines

LINCOLN - Coleata Gaines, 96, of Lincoln died Sept. 21, 2007, in Lincoln.

Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Westlawn Cemetery in Grand Island.

There will be no visitation; Mrs. Gaines was cremated.

Coleata and her husband, Stephen O. Gaines, taught school for many years in the Grand Island vicinity.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Tabitha Hospice, 4720 Randolph, Lincoln, NE 68510.

Emma Foster

Emma A. Foster, 91, of Grand Island died Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2007, at Wedgewood Care Center in Grand Island.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Grand Island, with the Rev. Bill Pavuk officiating. Burial will be in Grand Island Cemetery in Grand Island.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island.

Mrs. Foster was born icon Feb. 29, 1916, at Bertrand to Henry C. and Mary Marie (Grafe) Ziems.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ivan Foster, on June 5, 1992, and a daughter, Carol Anderson.

Survivors of the immediate family include two sons, Marlin Foster of Stockton, Kan., and Roger Foster of Republican City; a daughter, Ellen Anderson of Cedar, Kan.; a brother, Dean Ziems of Loveland, Colo.; and a sister, Minnie Chambers of Oxford.

Additional survivors include 16 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

She grew to womanhood in the Bertrand, Elwood, Arapahoe areas and received her education at Holbrook.

She was united in marriage to Ivan E. Foster on Aug. 11, 1936, at Norton, Kan. The couple resided in Arapahoe for several years. In 1966, the couple moved to Grand Island, where she was employed at the Nebraska Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant until 1972.

She was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church, VFW Auxiliary and the Eagles Auxillary.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; a grandson; Scott Foster; four brothers, Joe Ziems, Harry Ziems, Albert Ziems and James Ziems; and three sisters, Sophie Ziems, Velma Drews and Alvina Dawson.

Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.

Grace Russell

FULLERTON - Grace G. Russell, 100, of Fullerton died Friday, Oct. 26, 2007, at Litzenberg Memorial County Hospital in Central City, as a result of a house fire.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Palmer Funeral Home in Fullerton. The Revs. David Matheke and Jack Sample will officiate. Burial will be in Fullerton Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with an Eastern Star Service at 7.

Beverly Ostrander

Beverly J. Ostrander, 73, of Grand Island died Thursday, Oct. 25, 2007, at her home.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at All Faiths Funeral Home. The Rev. Jay Vetter will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday at All Faiths Funeral Home.

Mrs. Ostrander was born icon June 7, 1934, at Central City to Leslie and Nina (Dughman) Martin.

Survivors of the immediate family include her husband, Donald; four daughters and sons-in-law, Becky and Mark Otto of Phillips, Donna and Tad Larsen of Grand Island, Kate and Rob Ruger of Fort Riley, Kan., and Wendy and Corey Bunde of Huntingdon, Tenn.; three sons, Roger Ostrander and Bill Ostrander, both of Grand Island and Doug Ostrander of Alda; a brother and sister-in-law, Leslie Darrell and Willie Martin of Central City; and a sister and brother-in-law, Gloria and Alvin Glover of Grand Island.

Other survivors are 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Beverly was raised and received her education at Central City, graduating from Central City High School. She was united in marriage to Donald Ostrander. They lived in Central City, Belgrade and Grand Island. She worked at a caf in Central City, L and L Distributing and Skagway for several years.

She was a member of the Doniphan American Legion Auxiliary and the Eagles Auxiliary. Some of her enjoyments were puzzles, cards, casinos, Husker football, bowling and spending time with family.

Her parents, a brother, Orville Martin and a sister, Joyce Martin preceded her in death.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Robert C. 'Bob' Lee

FRANKLIN, Pa. - Robert C. "Bob" Lee, 45, of Franklin, Pa., formerly of Silver Creek, died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2007, at Wilson, N.C.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Curran Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Barry Winkelbauer will officiate. Burial will be at 12:30 p.m. at the Silver Creek Methodist Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mr. Lee was born icon April 10, 1962, at El Paso, Texas to Robert E. and Gertrude "Trudy" (Carroll) Lee.

Survivors of the immediate family include his parents of Silver Creek; a brother and sister-in-law, Monty and Gail Lee of Osceola; and a sister and brother-in-law, Lydia and Monty Luark of Phoenix.

Additional survivors include a nephew and his wife, Michael and Jessica Luark of Phoenix.

Bobby grew up in Silver Creek and graduated from Silver Creek High School in 1980. He began training thoroughbred horses racing in Nebraska, Oklahoma, California, Illinois and Kansas. He graduated from the Oklahoma Horseshoeing School in 1983 and was a Certified Farrier shoeing horses at various racetracks. He continued pursuing his college education during this time completing his Bachelor of Arts degree at Doane College.

In 1991, he began working for Immanuel Hospital as a Psychiatric Assistant and in 2000, he worked as a Basic & Family Mediator for The Mediation Center in Lincoln. He worked for the Firth Treatment Center from 2000 to 2003 as a Youth Care Worker - Equine Professional. During this time, he continued his Farrier business. He was selected as Farrier for numerous regional shows and shod many World Champions in different disciplines. He assisted in teaching Farrier Science at Ralph Casey & Son's Horseshoeing School and coached adolescent males in beginner horsemanship. He was a graduate of the World Wide School of Equine Dentistry in 1992. He was an educational speaker at National Conventions, Horse Expos & Workshops around the country. At the time of his death he was employed at VisionQuest as a Horse Corps Manager - Farrier School, working with at-risk youth in the Juvenal Integration Program instructing the Farrier trade.

He was a member of the Journeyman II Farrier with Brotherhood Working Farriers, American Farriers Association.

He was preceded in death by two nephews, Jeremy and Andrew Luark and grandparents, Lewis and Gladys Lee and E.V. Carroll and Mary Ellen Bryant.

Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.

Gary Wicht

ROCKVILLE - Gary L. Wicht, 56, of Rockville died Thursday, Oct. 25, 2007, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Josaphat's Catholic Church in Loup City. The Rev. Marty Egging will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery in Ravenna.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. vigil service Monday at the church.

Peters Funeral Home of Loup City is in charge of arrangements.

Susan 'Susie' Stoll

Susan "Susie" Stoll, 60, of Grand Island died Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2007, at St. Francis Skilled Care in Grand Island.

At her request, there will be no services. All Faiths Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Stoll was born icon Sept. 26, 1947, at Grand Island to Clifford L. and Dorothy (Perkins) Stoll.

Survivors of the immediate family include a brother, Samuel Stoll of Grand Island.

Additional survivors include four nieces, Connie Priskell of Aurora, Colo., Barb Kragor of Canton, Ga., Kathy Brown of Lincoln, Sherri Stoll of Lincoln, and twin great-nephews, Chris and Andy Kragor of Canton.

Her parents preceded her in death.

Susie was raised and educated in Grand Island, graduating from Grand Island Senior High in 1965. She went on to Kearney State College, graduating in 1970 with a BA in Sociology. She was employed by Montgomery Wards Catalog, Northeast Opinion Research, Trinity United Methodist Church, Claytons Pharmacy and Bob's Pharmacy.

Susie's volunteer work began as early as grade school. She enjoyed providing church services at nursing homes and retirement complexes, and was a caregiver to family and friends. She was a member of First Trinity United Methodist Church, TOPS, Christian Women's Club and Theta Rho Girls.

She loved animals and enjoyed music, being outdoors and playing pitch with family and friends.

LaVerne Bryan

Osceola - LaVerne Bryan, 101, of Osceola died Friday, Oct. 26, 2007, at Annie Jeffrey Memorial County Health Center in Osceola.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Osceola United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Ray Norris officiating. Inurnment will be in Osceola Cemetery.

Dubas Funeral Home of Osceola and Stromsburg is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Bryan was born icon July 18, 1906, in rural Cairo to Arthur Cox and Sarah Emma (Kenworthy) Hutton.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Guildford D. Bryan, on March 13, 1963.

Survivors of the immediate family include four sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Nancy Bryan of Silver Creek, Gerald and Judith Bryan and William and Lora Bryan, all of Osceola and Curtis and Sandra Bryan of Enumclaw, Wa.

Jack Decker Sr.

FULLERTON - Jack D. Decker Sr., 68, of Fullerton died Friday, Nov. 2, 2007, at Litzenberg Memorial County Hospital in Central City.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Palmer Funeral Home in Fullerton. Larry Phillips will officiate. Burial will be in the Fullerton Cemetery with military rites.
