Evelyn 'Honey' Schultz

GUNNISON, Colo. - Evelyn "Honey" Schultz, 94, of Gunnison, Colo., formerly of Wood River, died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2007. Honey's husband of 57 years, John Schultz, preceded her in death by just a few days.

Joint services for Honey and John Schultz will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Grand Island. Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery at Grand Island.

Apfel Funeral Home in Wood River is in charge of arrangements.

Evelyn Dorthy Margaret Opp was born icon Feb. 18, 1913, in Hall County to John G. and Minnie (Lorenzen) Opp.

Survivors of the immediate family include a daughter and son-in-law, Jodie and Mike Casey of Gunnison, Colo., and a sister, Gertrude Franke of Grand Island.

Additional survivors include two granddaughters, Lindsey and Megan Casey, both of Gunnison, and many nieces and nephews.

She lived most of her life in Hall County, near Wood River. Honey married John Schultz on Jan. 9, 1950. In 2001, Honey and John moved to Gunnison, Colo., to be near their family.

Honey was a housewife and farmed for many years with her husband in Hall County. She also worked at the Army Ordnance Plant and, in later years, at the Freedom Shop, a ceramic shop owned by her daughter, Jodie, in Wood River. Honey especially enjoyed making ceramics, playing cards with her friends in Wood River, and being with her granddaughters.

She was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Grand Island.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John; her parents; her brothers, John, Chris and Louis Opp; and her sister, Emma Meyer.

Memorials may be made to the family.

Randy Davis

CLARKS - Randy Davis, 52, of Clarks died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2007, as the result of an automobile accident near Osceola.

Services are pending with Wagner Funeral Home of Central City and Clarks.

John 'Jack' Bernichon

John "Jack" D. Bernichon, 85, of Grand Island died Friday, Oct. 26, 2007, at Grand Island Nebraska Veterans Home.

Memorial Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the All Faiths Funeral Home chapel. Mr. Bernichon's son-in-law, the Rev. Daniel Aguilar will officiate.

Private family burial of his ashes will be in Grand Island City Cemetery.

Mr. Bernichon was born icon Feb. 3, 1922, at Colon, Panama, the son of Clay and Esta (Kantro) Bernichon.

Survivors of his immediate family include his wife Ruth; his children and their spouses, Carol and Daniel Aguilar of Peoria, Ill., Susan Elefante of Phoenix and John Jr. and Janet Bernichon of Shirley, N.Y.; three stepsons and stepdaughters-in-law, Dr. Russ and Kathyann Christenson of Overland Park, Kan., Mark and Deb Christenson of Grand Island and Eric and Cindy Christenson of Hastings; and a sister, Audrey Glacken of Boynton Beach, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois, on Oct. 11, 1989.

Other survivors are seven grandchildren and 10 great- grandchildren.

Jack graduated from Richmond Hill High School in Queens, N.Y., and New York University in New York City. He served in the United States Navy during WWII for three years.

He married Lois Miller in August 1942 at Greensboro, N.C.

After his first wife's death, he married Ruth (Kuester) Pfeiffer on Aug. 1, 1992.

Jack worked as an All State Insurance Underwriter Agent and retired in 1984 in New York. He was a member of the Babylon Yacht Club and Long Island Yacht Club, and was a lifetime member of the Babylon (N.Y.) Volunteer Fire Department.

He enjoyed motor home traveling and visited every contiguous state in the U.S. He and his wife maintained a winter residence in Brownsville, Texas.

He was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time with people.

He was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church, Riverside Country Club and the Saddle Club.

In addition to his first wife, his brother, Clay Bernichon, preceded him in death.

Memorials are suggested to Central Nebraska Humane Society.

Susan 'Susie' Stoll

Susan "Susie" Stoll, 60, of Grand Island died Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2007, at St. Francis Skilled Care.

All Faiths Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Walter Bunsen
Bertrand resident, 95

BERTRAND — Walter H. Bunsen, 95, of Bertrand died Friday, Nov. 26, 1999, at Bertrand Nursing Home.

Arrangements are pending with Sandstrom Funeral Home in Bertrand.

Edith Erpelding
Kearney resident, 91

KEARNEY — Edith Erpelding, 91, of Kearney died Wednesday, March 1, 2000, at Mount Carmel Home in Kearney.

Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. James Catholic Church in Kearney with the Rev. Charles Torpey officiating. Burial will be at Kearney Cemetery.

Vigil wake services will be at 7 p.m. today at the church.

Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Unit at Mount Carmel Home or the church.

She was born icon September 24, 1908, in Eddyville to Julius and Minnie (Flowerdew) Boyd. She grew up in the Eddyville area and graduated from Kearney High School.

On Oct. 29, 1929, she married Leo H. Erpelding in Kearney. They farmed in the Kearney-Gibbon area. She worked at the state tuberculosis hospital and later worked as a hostess for King's Food Host and the Villager restaurants. She had been a resident of Mount Carmel for the past seven years.

She was a member of the church and the Eagles Auxiliary. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting and bowling.

Survivors include her daughters, Phyllis Mauler, Axtell, and Diana Wubbenhorst, Minden; son, Robert, Kearney; sister, Irene Thompson, Snohomish, Wash.; 10 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; and two step-grandsons.

She was preceded in death by her husband, one daughter, five brothers, two sisters and two grandchildren.

Russell Nutter
Thedford resident, 75

THEDFORD — Russell Allan Nutter, 75, of Thedford died Wednesday, May 24, 2000, at his residence.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Thedford Gymnasium with the Rev. Linda Martin officiating. Burial, with military honors, will be at the Thedford Cemetery.

Visitation will be until 8 p.m. today at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow and from 10 a.m. until services Friday at the Thedford Gym.

Memorials are suggested to the Thedford American Legion or the Thedford EMTs.

He was born icon March 13, 1925, in Washington County, Kan., to Walter Pearl and Catherine Nutter. He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II, and then ranched in the Thedford area for several years.

He was a member of the American Legion, the Nebraska Cattlemen's Association, the National Limousin Association and the Selective Service Board.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda; daughter, Connie Moser, North Platte; sons, Mark and Troy, both of Thedford, and Brad, Hickman; sisters, Shirley Krause, Ansley, Phyllis Figard, Thedford, and Joyce Molley, Lakewood, Colo.; brother, Charles, Lincoln; and 13 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Frank Eighmy
Minden resident, 89

MINDEN — Frank C. Eighmy, 89, of Minden died Friday, June 2, 2000, at his home.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Layton Funeral Home in Minden with the Rev. Donald Becker officiating. Burial will be at Minden Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

He was born icon July 23, 1910, in Kenesaw to William and Bertha (Mack) Eighmy.

Claude Tacha
Norton, Kan. resident, 77

NORTON, Kan. — Claude Anthony Tacha, 77, of Norton, Kan., died Friday, May 5, 2000, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Neb.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Norton with the Rev. John Walsh officiating.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8:30 p.m. today with wake service at 7 p.m. at Enfield Funeral Home in Norton.

Memorials are suggested to the Norton County Senior Citizen Center of the church.

He was born icon Jan. 12, 1923, near Jennings to Carl and Mary Elizabeth (Stramp) Tacha. He graduated from Jennings High School in 1942 and served with the U.S. Army Air Corps in India from 1943 until 1945.

On Nov. 27, 1950, he married Barbara Wetter in Norton where they made their home. He was employed by the Scheetz Motor Co. for 42 years and also tended bar part time at the Silvaire and Eagles clubs in Norton for many years.

He was a member of the Norton Volunteer Fire Department for 32 years and a lifetime member of the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife; sons, Patrick, Topeka, Lynn, Gibbon, Neb., Jim, Kearney, and John, Norton; daughters, Mary Jo Montgomery and Sharon Poage, both of Norton, Anita Adams, Lakewood, Colo., and Marcia, Topeka; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter and one brother.
