Robert Mishler
Former Holbrook resident, 84

CAMBRIDGE — Robert Eugene Mishler, 84, of Cambridge, formerly of Holbrook, died Thursday, May 30, 2002, at Cambridge.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today (Saturday) at Lockenour-Jones Mortuary in Cambridge.

He was born icon Feb. 9, 1918, in Edison to William and Avis (White) Mishler. He graduated from high school in Edison in 1936.

On May 2, 1942, he married Wilma Robeson.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945 and served in the South Pacific.

He was a charter member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9357 in Holbrook.

He farmed all his life. He enjoyed taking drives in the country and spending time with family.

Survivors include his wife of Holbrook; son, Rex of Park City, Mont.; two granddaughters; and two great-granddaughters.

Archie Fairbrother
Kearney resident, 77

KEARNEY — Archie L. Fairbrother, 77, of 1011 Sixth Ave. died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2000, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

Arrangements are pending at O'Brien-Straatmann-Apfel Funeral Home of Kearney.

Hazle Stutheit
Kearney resident, 80

KEARNEY — Hazle V. Stutheit, 80, of 600 E. 23rd St., died Friday, Nov. 17, 2000, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

Arrangements are pending at O'Brien-Straatmann-Apfel Funeral Home of Kearney.

Donovan Gift
Ex-Sargent resident, 67

MIDDLETON, Wis. — Donovan Darrell Gift, 67, of Middleton, formerly of Sargent, Neb., died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001, in Middleton.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today (Saturday) at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow, Neb., with the Rev. J.H. Schroeder of Elizabeth, Colo., officiating. Burial, with military rites, will be at Custer Center Cemetery west of Broken Bow.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. until services today (Saturday) at the mortuary in Broken Bow.

Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice or the family.

He was born icon Jan. 9, 1934, in Arnold, Neb. to Donovan Lewis and Margaret (Schroeder) Gift. He graduated from Sargent High School in 1951 and moved to Omaha. He served with the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958. Following his discharge, he returned to Omaha and was transferred to Wisconsin by Ray O Vac Co. He later owned and operated a TV repair business and contracted to build electronic boards in Wisconsin.

He was a member of the Methodist Church. He enjoyed hunting, science fiction books and movies.

Survivors include uncle, Donald Schroeder of Malvern, Iowa; aunts, Fern Hall of Arnold and Gayle Godsey of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Iris Mannel
Broken Bow resident, 87

BROKEN BOW — Iris L. Mannel, 87, of Broken Bow died Thursday, March 29, 2001, at Jennie Melham Memorial Medical Center in Broken Bow.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Broken Bow with the Rev. Todd Philipsen officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow. Wake service will be at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to the Nebraska Alzheimer's Association.

She was born icon Oct. 1, 1913, in Milburn to Mike and Edna (Leap) Loughran. She graduated from Milburn High School.

On May 7, 1934, she married Emil T. "Mac" Mannel in Anselmo. They farmed on the Mannel home place east of Anselmo for 41 years. In 1974, they retired and moved to Broken Bow, where she worked at Broken Bow Floral. Her husband died in 1995.

She was a member of the church and its altar society.

Survivors include her son, Bill of Anselmo; daughters, Sharron Shea of Pekin, Ill., and Deloris Foster of Gibbon; brother, Tom Loughran of Anselmo; 19 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters.

Gene Paulsen
Gothenburg resident, 68

GOTHENBURG — Gene Willard Paulsen, 68, of Gothenburg died Wednesday, May 30, 2001, at his residence.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church in Gothenburg with the Rev. Steve Deines officiating. Burial will be at Gothenburg Cemetery.

Visitation will be until 9 p.m. today at Blase Memorial Chapel in Gothenburg.

Memorials are suggested to the church, Gothenburg Fire Department or Great Plaines Hospice in North Platte.

He was born icon March 16, 1933, at Blair to Alfred and Rena (Peterson) Paulsen. The family lived in the Omaha area until moving to Cozad in 1946. He graduated from Cozad High School in 1950.

In 1953, he married Marlene Owings, then served with the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956. He returned to Cozad to work in the family business, Paulsen Building & Supply Company.

On Sept. 13, 1965, he married Lavonne (Bonnie) Ballmer. He was a former partner of Hi Gain Feed Lot and was a partner in Hicken Lumber. He also owned a farm and hog operation. He retired from the family business in 1985.

He was a member of American Legion Post 64, and former charter member of the Cozad Elks Club. He enjoyed golf, playing cards and traveling to Mexico and Florida.

Survivors include his wife; sons, Steven of Pleasanton and Michael of Oconto; brothers Lyle of Tucson, Ariz., and Earl of Cozad; sister, Cleo Wilkins of Cozad; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother. .

Darrell Evans
Lexington resident, 62

LEXINGTON — Darrell D. Evans, 62, of Lexington died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2001, at the Plum Creek Care Center in Lexington.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington with the Rev. Kyron C. BeDunnah officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Lexington.

Visitation will be until 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the chapel in Lexington.

Memorials are suggested to the Parkinson Research Foundation or the donor's choice.

He was born icon July 29, 1939, in Bakersfield, Calif., to Frank and Amy (Cox) Evans. When he was 14, the family moved to Lexington. During high school, he worked for his father. He graduated from Lexington High School in 1957.

On Nov. 22, 1958, he married Carol McCandless. He worked for hay mills in the area, for Hennek's for 15 years and then for Orthman Manufacturing. He took early retirement in 1990 after being diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease.

He enjoyed automobiles, bowling and camping. For several years he participated in the annual Harley-Davidson Motorcycle Rally in Sturgis, S.D.

On Feb. 5, 1983, he married Carolyn Houser in Lexington.

Survivors include his sons, Doug of Lexington and David of Phoenix; sisters, Sharlynn Shields of Boise, Idaho, Margaret McClellan of Newport, Ore., and Sharon Salazar of Newport, Ore.; stepsons, Bill Houser of Sturgis and Joe Houser and Wes Houser, both of Lexington; four grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Raymond Johnsen
Alma resident, 79

ALMA — Raymond A. Johnsen, 79, of Alma died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001, at Harlan County Hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Alma United Methodist Church with the Rev. Lyn Seiser officiating. Burial will be at Oxford Cemetery in Oxford with military rites by Fay Cady American Legion Post 118 of Alma.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today (Saturday), Sunday and Monday at Banta-Torrey Funeral Home in Alma.

Memorials are suggested to the Harlan County Hospital.

He was born icon Nov. 26, 1921, in Oxford to Arthur and Rose Marie (Schroder) Johnsen. He graduated from Oxford High School in 1940. He farmed in the area. He served in U.S. Army in 1942 to 1945 with the 432nd Signal Heavy Construction Battalion in North Burma and China and received the American Service Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, the World War II Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

On Feb. 10, 1946, he married Gwendolyn McDaniel in Colorado Springs, Colo. They lived in Oxford, where he was employed at the Gambles Store and Cowan's Filling Station, operated the Billiards Hall, worked for the postal service, was the town constable, worked in construction and did carpentry. He served as the Harlan County sheriff from 1963 until the 1970s. The couple moved to Alma in 1965. He served at custodian and maintenance man at Harlan County Hospital from 1983 to 1991. His wife died Nov. 8, 1998.

He was a member of the Fay Cady American Legion Post 118, was a past member of the Legion post at Oxford, and was a past member of the Oxford Volunteer Fire Department, the Nebraska Peace Officers Association and the Eagles Club of Holdrege.

Survivors include his daughters, Ramona Hartley of Lincoln and Judy Brooks of Minden; brother, Kenneth of Oxford; sisters, Phyllis McBride of Cocoa, Fla. and Shirley Jansma of Norfolk; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother.

Teresa Narel
Kearney resident, 94

KEARNEY — Teresa Agnes Narel, 94, of Kearney died Thursday, May 30, 2002, at Good Samaritan Hospital.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Mount Carmel Home Chapel in Kearney with the Rev. Thomas Mullowney officiating. Burial will be at Kearney Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the chapel with a rosary at 6 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to the Corpus Christi Carmelite Sisters.

O'Brien-Straatmann-Apfel Funeral Home in Kearney is in charge of arrangements.

She was born icon Aug. 5, 1907, in Chicago to Alexander and Martha Narel. She received her education in Chicago.

She was employed by Bell Telephone Co. before she entered the convent of Corpus Christi Carmelites in Duluth, Minn., in 1931. She made her novitiate in Trinidad, West Indies, where she received the habit of the order in 1932. She took her final vows July 20, 1936.

She taught catechism, took parish census and cared for the elderly in the order's nursing homes. She was the superior in Philadelphia. She baked the altar breads for Mass for several parishes.

When she retired, she lived at Mount Carmel Home in Kearney where she took care of chapel duties as sacristan.

Survivors include nephews and nieces.
