W. Jeanne Hampton
Lexington resident, 71

LEXINGTON — W. Jeanne Hampton, 71, of Lexington died Saturday, June 2, 2001, at Tri-County Hospital in Lexington.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington with the Rev. Floyd H. Starr II officiating. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery.

There will be no visitation and the casket will be closed.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

She was born icon Sept. 16, 1929, at Lexington to Ora "Doc" and Marie (Draper) Welliver. She graduated from Lexington High School in 1947 and then worked at Cornland Hotel and Ma's Kitchen.

In December 1951, she married Fred Hampton. They moved quite often but Lexington was always their home. They had four children of their own and her husband had two children from a prior marriage. She worked as a waitress at Norm's Restaurant for 21 years and later at the Little Paris. Her husband died in 1976.

She enjoyed having coffee with friends, working crossword puzzles, reading and following Nebraska football.

Survivors include her sons, Fred Jr. of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, Jim of Round Rock, Texas, and Steven of Gibbon; daughters, Genevieve "Cookie" Vogel of Fort Calhoun, Nancy Neff of Lexington and Suzanne of Elm Creek; brother, Jack Welliver of Omaha; sister, Claribelle "Sis" Mitchell of Kearney; 14 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and a sister.

Leonard Johnson
Rural Arnold resident, 75

BROKEN BOW — Leonard G. Johnson, 75, of rural Arnold died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, at his home.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow with the Rev. Jim Stark officiating. Burial will be at Cliff Table Cemetery west of Merna.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary.

Memorials are suggested to the Callaway Rescue Unit, the American Cancer Society or the donor's choice.

He was born icon April 7, 1925, in the Cliff community in Custer County to Burt and Elsie (Juker) Johnson. He attended Cliff rural school. He then farmed and ranched in the area and later owned his own farm in Pine Canyon. His land was distinguished by hand-cut cedar post fencing that was featured in a state magazine. He cared for his sister for the past several years.

He enjoyed protecting the wildlife living in his hills and his relationship with his neighbors and their children.

Survivors include his sister, Ruth Johnson of rural Arnold; and brother, Roy of Comstock.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

Ervin Thinnes
Ex-Overton resident, 76

KEARNEY — Ervin J. Thinnes, 76, of Kearney, formerly of Overton, died Tuesday, March 27, 2001, at St. John's Good Samaritan Center in Kearney.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Overton with the Revs. Neal Nollette and Mike McDonald officiating.

There will be no visitation. The body was cremated.

Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington is in charge of arrangements.

He was born icon Feb. 28, 1925, in Overton to Nick Thomas and Elizabeth Mary (Wengler) Thinnes. He attended school near Overton. He was stricken with polio at age 2 and was unable to work throughout his life.

He took pride in keeping his yard green, and he made rosaries by hand.

Survivors include his brother, LaVerne of San Diego; and sisters, Carrie Hasty of Elwood, Frances Adams of Lexington, Elizabeth Earl of Elm Creek, Josephine McDonald of Overton and Eileen Lauby of Lexington.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and five sisters.

Lois LeVan
Lexington resident, 77

LEXINGTON — Lois N. LeVan, 77, of Lexington died Sunday, April 8, 2001, at Plum Creek Care Center in Lexington.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Grace Lutheran Church in Lexington with the Rev. Dan Cosson officiating. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Hendricks City Cemetery in Hendricks, Minn.

Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.

Memorials are suggested to the church.

She was born icon July 27, 1923, at Hendricks to Peter J. and Ida (Bruflat) Ness. She graduated from Hendricks High School in 1941 and from Minneapolis Business College in 1943.

On Oct. 17, 1948, she married Robert H. LeVan at Hendricks. They lived in St. Louis, Mo., Ames, Iowa, New Richmond, Wis., Hubbard, Iowa, DePere, Wis., and Omaha. She was a homemaker and volunteered where needed. They lived for 21 years in Papillion and moved to Lexington in 1993.

She was a member of the church in Lexington and past member of churches where they had lived. She participated in Bible study and the women's church groups. She enjoyed bowling, water aerobics, golf, cooking and playing bridge.

Survivors include her husband, son Eric of Tea, S.D.; daughters, Linda Miller and Lisa LeVan, both of Lexington; and six grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three sisters.

Anna Willard
Omaha resident, 101

OMAHA — Anna Violet Willard, 101, of Omaha died Sunday, May 27, 2001, at Immanuel Medical Center in Omaha.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Pearl Methodist Church in Omaha. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Riverside Cemetery in Gibbon.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Roeder Mortuary in Omaha.

Godberson Mortuary of Gibbon is in charge of burial arrangements.

She was born icon Aug. 9, 1899, in Boone County to John and Lyda Mae (Shivley) Bliss. She married Charley Willard and was a homemaker.

Survivors include her sons, Kenneth of Winona, Minn., and Robert of Omaha; daughters, Betty Jean Matern of Spokane, Wash., Bernice Blair of Elkhorn and Donna Rae Clevinger of York; sister, Blanch Matern of Spokane; 14 grandchildren; and many great- and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers, four sisters and a great-granddaughter.

Floyd Pfeiffer
Lexington resident, 80

LEXINGTON — Floyd W. Pfeiffer, 80, of Lexington died Friday, Oct. 19, 2001, at Plum Creek Care Center.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington with the Rev. Richard Boring officiating. Private burial of cremains at Greenwood Cemetery in Lexington will be before the service.

Memorials are suggested to the Lexington Fire Department or the donor's choice.

He was born icon June 17, 1921, in Gosper County to Waldemar and Lucille (Boss) Pfeiffer. He grew up in the Gosper County and attended Ash Grove School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1943 during World War II.

On Dec. 8, 1945, he married Elizabeth Salisbury in Norton, Kan. They farmed and ranched. Beginning in 1961, he worked for 14 years for Cornland Dressed Beef. The couple owned and operated Pfeiffer Liquor Store until they retired in the early 1980s.

He was a past member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Eagles Club and the United Methodist Church.

He enjoyed spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife; daughter, Lona Jensen of Cozad; sister, Helen Fong of Elwood; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, two sisters and a grandson.

Tom Jones
Rural Anselmo resident, 66

BROKEN BOW — Tom E. Jones, 66, of rural Anselmo died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2001, at Jennie Melham Memorial Medical Center in Broken Bow.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Broken Bow United Methodist Church with the Rev. Doug Jones officiating. Burial will be at Ortello Valley Cemetery near Anselmo.

Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.

Memorials are suggested to the Anselmo Merna Rescue Unit and to the Anselmo Volunteer Fire Department.

He was born icon Jan. 14, 1935, in Nashville, Tenn., to William and Mable (Whitley) Jones. He graduated from high school in Bonham, Texas. He worked as operations manager for Parker Drilling Co. doing oil and gas exploration. He traveled worldwide with the company and retired in 1994 after 25 years.

On Sept. 15, 1972, he married Sandy Richards. After his retirement, they moved to the family farm near Anselmo.

He was a member of the Anselmo United Methodist Church and was a past member of the Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include his wife; sons, Tommy of Houston, Bobby of Tulsa, Okla., and Dennis of Odessa, Texas; daughter, Jennifer of Washington, D.C.; sisters, Doris Evans of Bonham, Texas, and Joyce of Big Springs, Texas; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers.

Charles Pope
Johnson Lake resident, 78

LEXINGTON — Charles F. Pope, 78, of Johnson Lake died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2002, at Tri-County Hospital in Lexington.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Christian Church in Lexington with the Rev. K.C. BeDunnah officiating. Burial will be at Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell.

O'Brien-Straatmann-Apfel Funeral Home of Kearney is in charge of arrangements.
