Leon Vokoun
California resident, 77

REDLANDS, Calif. — Leon Vokoun, 77, formerly of Buffalo County, died July 8, 2001, at Redlands Community Hospital in Redlands, Calif.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Ravenna with the Rev. Rodney Pruss officiating. Burial of cremains will be at Highland Park Cemetery in Ravenna.

Memorials are suggested to the Salvation Army or Habitat for Humanity.

Rasmussen Mortuary in Ravenna is in charge of arrangements.

He was born icon in Buffalo County to Frank and Emma Vokoun. He lived in San Bernardino, Calif., for 18 years. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He worked in credit for Sears, Roebuck and Co. for 33 years.

He was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks 984 of Kearney for 45 years. He did volunteer work for AARP as a tax aide and was involved in neighborhood activities.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara; and stepsons, John and Phillip Bowman.

He was preceded in death by four brothers and a sister.

Ruth Webb
Kearney resident, 89

KEARNEY — Ruth E. Webb, 89, of Kearney died Thursday, May 30, 2002, at Mount Carmel Home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Faith United Methodist Church in Kearney with the Rev. C.J. Willis officiating. Burial will be at Kearney Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary and until service time Saturday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to the church.

Edna Weaver
Kearney resident, 85

KEARNEY — Edna I. Weaver, 85, of Kearney died Saturday, May 6, 2000, at Mount Carmel Nursing Home.

Private family services will be held.

Memorials are suggested to Cambridge Court in Kearney.

Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary of Kearney is in charge of arrangements.

She was born icon Feb. 9, 1915, in Roodhouse, Ill., to Clarence and Ollie (Allred) Elliott. She grew up and attended school in Roodhouse. She moved to Grand Island in 1941 and worked as a sales clerk at Sears Department Store.

She moved to Kearney in 1957 and was a department manager at Sears. She then worked for many years at Hellman's Fashions of the Hour until retiring in 1980.

She was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Kearney.

Survivors include her sons, Paul Surbeck, Marina, Calif., and Dean Surbeck, Gastonia, N.C.; companion, John Stuart, Kearney; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Jeanette Bryant
Ex-Kearney resident, 68

HOUSTON — Jeanette V. (Ibsen) Bryant, 68, of Houston, formerly of Kearney, Neb., died Monday, May 22, 2000, at Methodist Hospital in Houston.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary in Kearney with the Rev. David deFreese officiating. Burial will be at the Kearney Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

She was born icon Sept. 11, 1931, in Phelps County, Neb., to Lars and Marie (Rasmussen) Ibsen. She graduated from Kearney High School in 1948 and attended Kearney State Teachers College. She moved to Houston 35 years ago and was employed as a secretary at Rice University.

She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Kearney before moving to Houston.

Survivors include her daughter, Melanie Bassett, Houston; sons, Blaine and Mike, both of Houston; brother, Dale, Kearney; sisters, Harriet Frisell, Holdrege, Neb., and Hazel Arterburn, McCook, Neb.; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son and one sister.

Marjorie Anderson
Lexington resident, 90

LEXINGTON — Marjorie Anderson, 90, of Lexington died Tuesday, July 4, 2000, at Elwood Care Center in Elwood.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at United Methodist Church in Lexington with the Rev. Todd Karges officiating. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Lexington.

Visitation will be until 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Reynolds Love Chapel in Lexington.

Memorials are suggested to the church or Lexington Volunteer Fire Department.

She was born icon July 10, 1909, in Hastings to Frank and Cora (Thompson) Rose. She attended school in Hastings.

On Aug. 14, 1926, she married Andy Anderson. They moved to Lexington in 1928 and farmed just west of U.S. Highway 30. They moved to town in 1984. Her husband died in 1987.

She was a member of the church and active with the Women's Circle and American Legion Auxiliary. She was a past member of the Happy Home Helpers Extension Club.

Survivors include sons, Robert and Dick, both of Lexington; three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her twin sister and two other sisters, one brother and a great-great-grandson.

Tony Abood
Kearney resident, 82

KEARNEY — Tony Abood, 82, of 860 E. First St. died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

Arrangements are pending with Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary in Kearney.

Ida Davis
Kearney resident, 89

KEARNEY — Ida K. Davis, 89, of Kearney died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2000, at Mount Carmel Home in Kearney.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at O'Brien-Straatmann-Apfel Funeral Home in Kearney with the Rev. Stan Murdoch officiating. Burial will be at Elm Creek Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church in Kearney.

Patricia Denison
Kearney resident, 63

KEARNEY — Patricia L. "Pat" Denison, 63, of 3916 Ave. E, died Monday, Sept. 25, 2000, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church in Kearney with the Rev. Dr. Ron Roemmich officiating. Burial will be at Kearney Cemetery.

The family will be receiving friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at O'Brien-Straatmann-Apfel Funeral Home in Kearney. The casket will be closed at the funeral home and church.

Memorials are suggested to the family and consumer science department at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.

She was born icon Aug. 3, 1937, in Arnold to Harry and Mildren (Deming) McMahon. She graduated from Arnold High School in 1955.

On June 8, 1958, she married Mahlon Denison in Arnold. She received her bachelor's degree from Kearney State College in 1968 and started Kearney's first day-care center. After receiving her master's degree in 1974 from KSC, she taught home economics at the University of Nebraska at Kearney until retiring in 1997. She received her doctorate from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1993.

She was a member of the DOES in Kearney and the Eagles Auxiliary and served as an officer with the ladies' bowling association. She enjoyed traveling, league bowling and time spent with her family.

Survivors include her husband; sons, Edward of Howell, N.J., and Roland of Orleans; brothers, Donald of San Diego and Robert of Anaheim, Calif.; sisters, Coralie Ledford of Odessa, Mo., and Barbara Westman of Denver; two grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister.

Randy Banzhaf
Eustis resident, 44

EUSTIS — Randy Banzhaf, 44, of Eustis died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney following an 18-month battle with a brain tumor.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at United Methodist Church in Eustis with the Rev. Dr. William Deahl officiating. Burial will be at East Cemetery in Eustis.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the church.

A memorial has been established in his name.

Berryman Funeral Home of Cozad is in charge of arrangements.

He was born icon March 13, 1956, at Sidney to Don and Lavinna (Weiss) Banzhaf. He was raised in Eustis and graduated from Eustis High School in 1974.

On Feb. 20, 1977, he married Kathleen Sughroue at Indianola. They had two children, Crystal Marie and Cory Don, and later divorced.

On Dec. 20, 1986, he married Kaye Jelden at Axtell. They had one child, Kenzie Kaye.

The deceased was employed with Banzhaf Bros. Inc. for 30 years as a heavy equipment operator.

He was a member of the church, a 17 year member of the Eustis Fire Department and a 10 year member of the Eustis Rescue Squad. He enjoyed camping, fishing, playing softball and especially his children and their activities.

Survivors include his wife; son Cory of Eustis; daughters Crystal and Kenzie of Eustis; parents of Eustis; brother Doug of Eustis; and grandmother Dora Weiss of Curtis.
