Margaret O'Donnell
Lexington resident, 71

OMAHA — R. Margaret O'Donnell, 71, of Lexington died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2001, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Lexington with the Rev. Todd Karges officiating. Burial will be at the Greenwood Cemetery in Lexington.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington.

Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.

She was born icon May 26, 1930 in Karval, Colo., to Robert and Minnie (Dawson) Bucklen. She graduated from high school at Hugo, Colo., and attended Colorado A&M University at Fort Collins. She received her degree in English in 1952.

On Oct. 12, 1952, she married James O'Donnell in Fort Collins. They moved to Lexington in 1953. She worked for the Tri-City Tribune and later for the Lexington Clipper-Herald as a proofreader. She also worked with the Gothenburg Times.

She was a member of the church and a past member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5136 Auxiliary, the BPW, Mrs. Jaycees and Soroptimists. She enjoyed playing bridge and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her sons, Terry of Johnson Lake and Kevin of Seward; daughters, Coleen Lauby and Kathy Long, both of Lexington; sisters, Christine Binder of Pueblo, Colo., Betty Bailey of Karval, Virginia Reese of North Hills, Calif., and Louise VonSeggern of Greeley, Colo.; 11 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers, four sisters and a grandson.

Arlene McGuire
Lexington resident, 85

COZAD — Arlene Joy McGuire, 85, of Lexington died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001, at Southview Manor.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington with the Rev. Todd Karges officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell.

Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the chapel.

Memorials are suggested to the Dawson Chapter 33 Order of the Eastern Star, the Lexington Fire Department or Nebraska Wesleyan University.

She was born icon Aug. 10, 1916, in Stamford to Ross and Mae (Davis) Lane. She grew up in the Holdrege area and graduated from Alma High School in 1935. She attended Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln and was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority.

On July 7, 1946, she married John McGuire in Alma. They lived in Lexington, where they owned and operated McGuire City Bakery for 35 years.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church and Chapter 33 Order of the Eastern Star.

She loved to read, crochet, knot and do needlepoint.

Survivors include her husband and sisters, Iris Kennedy of Alma and Norma Glidden of Mullen.

She was preceded in death by a brother.

Forrest Saum
Elm Creek resident, 80

ELM CREEK — Forrest L. Saum, 80, of Elm Creek died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2001, at his home in Elm Creek.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary in Kearney with the Rev. C.J. Willis officiating. Burial will be at Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell. Military rites graveside will be by the North Platte Veterans Group.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8:30 p.m. today and before services Wednesday at the mortuary.

Memorials are suggested to the Kearney Police Department in care of the Kearney Community Foundation.

He was born icon Dec. 8, 1921, in Maywood to Harry and Opal (Coykendall) Saum. He grew up in the Maywood and Farnam areas and graduated from Farnam High School in 1940. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1941 to 1945. He participated in the Battle of Coral Sea and served in landings in Africa and Sicily. After the war, he worked in Wyoming before moving to Kearney to attend Kearney State College.

He worked as a Kearney police officer and later worked for Turner Body Shop until he retired. He moved to Elm Creek in the early 1980s.

He was a member of the Kearney Elks Lodge 984, Kearney Eagles Lodge 2722 and the Kearney Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 759. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his brothers, Hal of Kearney and Burnell of Hamilton, Mont.

He was preceded in death by a son, a brother and two sisters.

Charlotte Miller
Loup City resident, 89

LOUP CITY — Charlotte Miller, 89, of Loup City died Friday, April 5, 2002, at Rose Lane Nursing Home in Loup City.

Arrangements are pending at Higgins Funeral Home in Loup City.

Robert Mendenhall
Kearney resident, 85

GIBBON — Robert G. Mendenhall, 85, of Kearney died Thursday, May 30, 2002, at Good Samaritan Center in Gibbon.

Arrangements are pending with Godberson Mortuary in Gibbon.

Lawrence Lewandowski
Omaha resident, 62

OMAHA — Lawrence Lewandowski, 62, of Omaha died Thursday, June 15, 2000, at his home.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Mary Our Queen Catholic Church in Omaha with the Rev. Carl Salanitro officiating. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery in Omaha.

Wake service will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at Heafey-Heafy-Hoffman-Dwork-Cutler Westcenter Chapel in Omaha and will be followed by visitation with the family until 7 p.m. Visitation also will be from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home

Memorials are to Westside Foundation, Toys for Tots or the Ashton Historical Center.

He was born icon Oct. 28, 1937, in Loup City to Louis and Elizabeth Lewandowski.

He was a teacher at Westside Community School.

He is survived by his wife; sons, Douglas, Sioux Falls, S.D., and Tom, Omaha; daughters, Anne, Minneapolis, and Karen, Omaha; his mother, Ashton; brothers, Gary, North Platte, and Mike, Lincoln; sister Jean Curlo, Ashton; and a granddaughter.

Emil Schultz
Holdrege resident, 90

HOLDREGE — Emil Whilhelm Schultz, 90, of Holdrege died Sunday, June 18, 2000, at Methodist Memorial Homes in Holdrege.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Holdrege with the Rev. Jeremy Jacoby officiating. Burial will be in Oxford Cemetery.

He was born icon July 9, 1909, in Hayward, Wis., to Arthur and Rena (Huff) Schultz. He grew up near Oxford and graduated from Oxford High school.

He married Myrtle Ruby Frost on March 17, 1931, in Kearney.

Raymond Markus
Kearney resident, 79

KEARNEY — Raymond L. Markus, 79, of 1311 Ave. C died Sunday, October, 1, 2000, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Grand Island.

Arrangements are pending at O'Brien-Straatmann-Apfel Funeral Home of Kearney.

Vera Moroney
Broken Bow resident, 93

BROKEN BOW — Vera Moroney, 93, of Broken Bow died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000, at Sandhills Manor Nursing Home in Broken Bow.

Arrangements are pending at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.

Fern Johnson
Bertrand resident, 73

BERTRAND — Fern Leatric Johnson, 73, of Bertrand died Thursday, June 6, 2000, at Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Westmark Evangelical Free Church in Bertrand with the Rev. David Carlson officiating. Burial will be at Sandstrom Cemetery in Phelps County.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Sandstrom Funeral Home in Bertrand.

Stanley Zetterberg
Kearney resident, 53

KEARNEY — Stanley N. Zetterberg, 53, of 2003 Ave. G died Friday, Oct. 20, 2000, at his residence.

Arrangements are pending at O'Brien-Straatmann-Apfel Funeral Home of Kearney.

Harold Kesler
Franklin resident, 79

HASTINGS — Harold R. Kesler, 79, of Franklin died Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2001, at Mary Lanning Hospital in Hastings.

Services have been rescheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at Evangelical Free Church in Franklin with the Rev. Frank Alexander officiating. Additional services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Congregational Church in Sabetha, Kan. Burial will be at Albany Cemetery in Sabetha.

Hutchins Funeral Home of Franklin is in charge of arrangements.

He was born icon Sept. 25, 1921, at Lovewell, Kan., to Dennis and Ilah (Garber) Kesler. The family moved to Quinter, Kan., where he graduated from high school in 1939. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. Following his discharge, he moved to Sabetha, where he was a dairyman.

He married Marjorie Bechtelheimer in Sabetha. She died in October 1982.

On Oct. 24, 1987, he married Evelyn Custer Dallmann, at Franklin. They had lived in Franklin since their marriage.

He was a member of the church in Franklin and the Gideons International.

Survivors include his wife; sons, Steven, David and Jim, all of Sabetha; daughters, Noreen Vogt of Summerville, S.C., Ardith Scarlett of Auburn, Wash., and Reva Brown of Kansas City, Kan.; brother, Melvin of Powhattan, Kan.; sisters, Velma Harris of Williamson, W.Va., Helen Pautz of Aurora, Colo., and Lois Bersuch of McPherson, Kan.; stepdaughters, Jolean Haring of Naponee, Verdell Haussermann of Bloomington and Laberta Koehler of Harvard; 14 grandchildren; 10 stepgrandchildren; and 16 stepgreat-grandchildren.

In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters.
