Raymond Scott Sr.
Riverdale resident, 79

KEARNEY — Raymond S. Scott Sr., 79, of Riverdale died Monday, March 26, 2001, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Christian Church in Kearney with the Rev. Don Bryant officiating. Burial, with military rites by the Offut Air Force Base unit, will be at Kearney Cemetery.

There will be no visitation.

Memorials are suggested to the church.

Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary of Kearney is in charge of arrangements.

He was born icon Oct. 2, 1921, in Grand Island to Everett L. and Helen I. (Higgs) Scott. The family moved to Omaha where he graduated from high school in 1939. He joined the Navy Reserve in 1938, and after a year he entered the U.S. Army as a radio operator until 1943. A day after his discharge, he re-entered the service and served with the U.S. Army Air Corps as a pilot during World War II. He was a Pearl Harbor survivor.

On June 22, 1942, he married Frances D. Nau in Kearney. They made their home in the Riverdale/Kearney area. He was employed as a line superintendent for Nebraska Public Power District from 1947 until retiring in 1984.

He was a member of the church, Kearney Elks Lodge 984, VFW Post 759, the Amateur Radio Club and Nebraska Mink Association. He enjoyed raising mink and recreational flying.

Survivors include his wife; son Raymond Jr. of O'Neill; daughter Julie Seier of Lincoln; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother.

Doris Marshall
Kearney resident, 88

KEARNEY — Doris Marshall, 88, of Kearney died Monday, April 9, 2001, at Mount Carmel Nursing Home in Kearney.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Faith United Methodist Church in Kearney with the Revs. Bob Neben and C.J. Willis officiating. Burial will be at Kearney Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at O'Brien-Straatmann-Apfel Funeral Home in Kearney and one hour before services Thursday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to the church or Mount Carmel Nursing Home.

Merle Richards
Kearney resident, 68

KEARNEY — Merle Ann Richards, 68, of Kearney died Dec. 3, 2000, at her residence.

Burial of cremains will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Williamsburg Cemetery south of Elm Creek with the Rev. C. J. Willis officiating.

O'Brien-Straatmann-Apfel Funeral Home of Kearney and Elm Creek is in charge of arrangements.

Frances Trotter
Broken Bow resident, 91

BROKEN BOW — Francis A. Trotter, 91, of Broken Bow died Monday, July 30, 2001, in Broken Bow.

Services were today at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow with the Rev. Steve Hicks officiating. Burial will be at the Broken Bow Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the fund for park benches for the community playgrounds.

She was born icon June 28, 1910, in a dugout in Dewey County, Okla., to Lon and Effie (Kirkman) Beverly.

In April 1928, she married H.J. Trotter at Twin Falls, Idaho. The couple moved to Nebraska and farmed together in Custer County for more than 69 years. Her husband died in 1998.

Survivors include her sons, James of Arcadia and Frank of Council Bluffs, Iowa; daughters, Beverly Petersen of Kearney, Bonnie Seeger of Johnson Lake and Donna Winbolt of Broken Bow; brother, Elmer Beverly of California; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.

Heide Roth
Wood River resident, 42

OMAHA — Heide M. Roth, 42, of Wood River died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2001, at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Cairo United Church in with the Revs. Cloy Roth and Denton Jantzi officiating. Burial will be at Wood River Mennonite Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to the church or cancer research.

Apfel Funeral Home of Wood River is in charge of arrangements.

She was born icon Feb. 23, 1959, in Hutchinson, Minn., to William and Joy (Rathman) Dibbern. She attended Rural School District 37 north of Wood River and graduated from Wood River High School in 1977. She graduated from Saint Francis School of Nursing in 1980 and received her bachelor's degree in nursing in 2000 at Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln.

She began her nursing career at Lutheran Hospital in Grand Island and then at Saint Francis Medical Center where she was a CICU nurse, department director, director of the Coronary Radiology Lab. She was a department supervisor.

On May 30, 1981, she married Marvin Roth at Grand Island. She was a member of the church and enjoyed teaching Sunday school and Bible school.

She enjoyed nursing, cooking, quilting and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her husband; sons, Joshua and Caleb, both of home; daughter, Megan of home; father, of Wood River; brothers, Randy Dibbern of Cairo and Joed and David Dibbern, both of Grand Island, and Billy of Riverdale; and sisters, Coleen Rakes of Bartlesville, Okla., Doreen Paitz of Kearney and Carrie Loy of Wood River.

She was preceded in death by her mother, an infant brother and her grandparents.

Lola Mast
Gibbon resident, 91

GIBBON — Lola Mae Mast, 91, of Gibbon died Monday, May 27, 2002, at Good Samaritan Center in Gibbon.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Gibbon Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Flynn officiating. Burial will be at Gibbon Riverside Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Godberson Mortuary in Gibbon.

Memorials are suggested to the church, the emergency unit or the care center, all in Gibbon.

Alberta Gibreal
Ex-Kearney resident, 49

LAKEWOOD, Colo. — Alberta "Bertie" Gibreal, 49, of Lakewood, formerly of Kearney, Neb., died Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2001, at St. Anthony Hospital in Lakewood.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary in Kearney with the Rev. C.J. Willis officiating. Burial will be at Kearney Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. and before services Monday at the funeral home in Kearney.

Mae Kostman
Cozad resident, 87

LEXINGTON — Mae Kostman, 87, of Cozad died Sunday, April 8, 2001, at Tri-County Hospital in Lexington.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Berryman Funeral Home Chapel in Cozad. Burial will be at Cozad Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

A memorial has been established in her name.

She was born icon Feb. 28, 1914, at Oconto to Arthur and Rose (Houch) Houchin. The family lived in several Nebraska communities.

On Sept. 9, 1930, she married Emil Kostman. They made their home in and around Cozad since 1932. She worked at several cafes in Cozad and for several years at the Cozad Seventh Street Market. She had been a resident of Lexington for the past year.

Survivors include her son Rodney of Cozad; daughter Virginia Buss of Cozad; sister Wauneta Lichliter of Omaha; 10 grandchildren; and several great and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, one brother, a sister and three grandchildren.

Carl Steel
Holdrege resident, 93

HOLDREGE — Carl Ralph Martin Steel, 93, of Holdrege died Tuesday, May 29, 2001, at Holdrege Memorial Homes.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Nelson-Harris Funeral Home in Holdrege with the Rev. Murray Jones officiating. Burial will be at Moses Hill Cemetery in Phelps County.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home in Holdrege with the family greeting friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to the Trinity Evangelical Church of Holdrege, the Senior Center or the donor's choice.

He was born icon May 19, 1908, west of Loomis to Gustav Henry and Alma Dorothy (Nelson) Steel. He attended rural school west of Loomis and later at Bertrand. He then engaged in farming.

On Nov. 24, 1935, he married Ada Grace Borden of Holdrege. Since 1941, they made their home in Holdrege. He was employed as a mechanic and then worked for Brown Implement. He worked for the McClymont Implement John Deere dealership for more than 40 years.

He attended Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Holdrege and was a member of the Saddle Club. He enjoyed family roller skating outings, square dancing, boating and camping.

Survivors include his wife; sons, Larry of Greeley, Colo., and Willis of Estes Park, Colo.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
