Ex-Wilcox, 61

WINFIELD, Kan. - Janice Mae Mack, 61, of Winfield died Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2003, at her home.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Winfield Evangelical Free Church. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery in Winfield.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield.

Memorials are suggested to the church.

She was born icon Oct. 6, 1941, in Holdrege, Neb., to Clarence and Ingeborg (Kvist) Falk. She graduated from Wilcox High School in 1959.

She attended Wahoo (Neb.) Junior College until 1961.

She worked for the Bureau of Vital Statistics in Lincoln, Neb.

On Aug. 9, 1969, she married Donald Mack in Lincoln.

In 1971, they moved to Oklahoma City. They moved to Winfield in 1982.

She was a member of the church in Winfield and served as pianist for a few years.

She enjoyed reading, embroidery and playing the piano.

Survivors include her husband; son, Tim of Shawnee Mission, Kan.; daughter, Shelley of Redwood City, Calif.; and brothers, Eugene and Ken Falk, both of Fort Collins, Colo. and Pete Falk of Omaha.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Harold Helwick
Kearney resident, 74

SHELTON - Harold H. Helwick, 74, of Kearney died Friday, April 11, 2003, at his daughter's home near Shelton.

Services were today at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Kearney with the Rev. Mike McDonald officiating. Burial was at Kearney Cemetery with military rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 759 and American Legion Post 52.

Memorials are suggested to the church.

Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

He was born icon May 18, 1928, in New Orleans to Harold Sr. and Mary (Palmisano) Helwick.

He attended school in New Orleans.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1947 and in the U.S. Army from 1949 to 1952.

On Sept. 23, 1954, he married Janice Mullen in Phillipsburg, Kan.

They lived in Kirwin, Kan., Mississippi and then Junction City, Kan., before moving to the Gibbon/Kearney area in 1980.

His wife died July 31, 1993.

On Dec. 20, 1997, he married Mary Chism in Kearney.

He was a salesman for Deterding Pool and Spa for 12 years. He retired in 1998.

He was a member of the church, the Knights of Columbus in Kearney and the American Legion in Gibbon.

Survivors include his wife; sons, Harold of Hastings and John of Lincoln; daughters, Linda Van Zandt of Checotah, Okla., Janet Graham and Shirley Steele, both of Shelton, Theresa of Cleveland and Robyn of Kearney; sisters, Delphine Hughes and Mary Lou Wallace, both of Loveland, Colo., and Loni Johnson of North Platte; 21 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; stepson, Mark Chism of Fullerton; and stepdaughters, Julie Chism of Central City and Leanne Chism of Stockton, Calif.

In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by a grandson.

Gerald Badura
St. Paul resident, 73

GRAND ISLAND - Gerald P. "Jerry" Badura, 73, of St. Paul died Sunday, June 1, 2003, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Francis Catholic Church in Ashton with the Rev. Louis Nollette officiating. Military honors will be by Ashton American Legion Post 108.

Cremation will follow the service. Burial of cremains will be at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery in Ashton.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the church with a 7:30 p.m. vigil service.

Memorials are suggested to the Ashton EMTs or the family's choice.

Peters Funeral Home of St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.

He was born icon Feb. 25, 1930, in Ashton to Peter and Anna (Kwiatkowski) Badura.

He graduated from Ashton High School in 1947. He worked in the family's Badura Store.

From 1952 to 1953, he served in the U. S. Army. He returned to Ashton.

On Jan. 5, 1955, he married Shirley Brouillette in Grand Island.

They owned and operated Badura's Store in Ashton until they retired in 1994.

They moved to Branson, Mo., where they worked for Mel Tillis for six years.

In 2000, they moved to St. Paul. He worked part time at Kmart in Grand Island.

He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in St. Paul and was a former member of the church in Ashton. He was a member of the Ashton American Legion and was a former member of the Ashton Fire Department and school board.

Survivors include his wife; sons, Stephen of Ashton and Randy of Wilber; daughter, Kimberly Mostek of Loup City; brother, Roman of Ashton; sister, Lois Kaminski of Loup City; 13 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.

Etta Broadbent
Kearney resident, 87

KEARNEY - Etta "Deldee" Broadbent, 87, of Kearney, formerly of Miller, died Sunday, June 15, 2003, at St. John's Good Samaritan Center.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Faith United Methodist Church in Kearney with the Rev. C.J. Willis officiating. Burial will be at Armada Cemetery in Miller.

Visitation will be until 8 p.m. today at O'Brien-Straatmann-Apfel Funeral Home in Kearney.

Memorials are suggested to the church.

She was born icon Dec. 7, 1915, in Varina, Iowa, to Charles and Melissa (Selleck) Martin.

She grew up in the Haven Chapel area where she attended country school.

On June 2, 1941, she married William Stevens. He died in 1947.

On June 18, 1950, she married Stanley Broadbent.

They lived in Miller.

Her husband died in 1986, and she moved to Kearney.

She was a member of the church in Kearney.

She enjoyed bowling, farm life, sewing, gardening, attending coffee club and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her sons, Leslie Stevens and Wendell Stevens, both of Kearney, Eldon Stevens of Allendale, Mich., and C. Milan Broadbent of Green Bay, Wis.; daughters, Virginia Butler of Elm Creek and Geneva Sickler of Lincoln; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and stepbrother, Millard Martin of California.

In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by a brother, a sister, a grandson and a great-granddaughter.

G. Loaraine Schleicher
Holdrege resident, 88

LINCOLN - G. Loaraine Schleicher, 88, of Holdrege, formerly of Wilsonville, died Friday, Aug. 9, 2003, at BryanLGH East Medical Center in Lincoln.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Baptist-Christian Church in Wilsonville with the Rev. Keith Theobald officiating. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery in Beaver City.

Visitation will be until 8 p.m. today at Wenburg Funeral Home in Beaver City and before services Tuesday at the church.

She was born icon April 7, 1915, in Hendley to Ray and Grace (Loar) Little.

She graduated from Beaver City High School in 1933.

On May 20, 1933, she married Charles Schleicher in Norton, Kan.

They lived in the Beaver City and Hendley area until they moved to Wilsonville in 1948.

Her husband died Sept. 15, 1976.

She worked as a cook at Wilsonville Public schools.

She moved to Holdrege in 1999.

She was a member of the church in Wilsonville.

Survivors include her daughters, Barbara Penrod of Holdrege, Karol Shafer of Oxford and Ivalyn Pierce of Pierce, Colo.; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant sister.
