HOLDREGE - Eleanor M. Johnson, 87, of Holdrege died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2003, at Phelps Memorial Health Center.

Arrangements are pending at Nelson-Harris Funeral Home in Holdrege.

Donna Behnken
Former Shelton resident, 65

HASTINGS - Donna Behnken, 65, of Kenesaw, formerly of Shelton, died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003, in Hastings.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Metz Chapel in York with the Rev. Dick Woolard officiating. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in York.

Visitation will be until 8 p.m. today at Metz Mortuary in York.

She was born icon Jan. 30, 1938, in rural Buffalo County to Donald and Lucille Oliver.

On Aug. 28, 1959, she married Dale Behnken in Shelton. He preceded her in death.

Survivors include her sons, Curtis of Columbus and Craig of Omaha; sisters, Barbara Shepardson of Mason City and Nancy Shavlik of Bartlett; and five grandchildren.

Francis Bean
Cozad resident, 87

COZAD - Francis "Skeet" Bean, 87, of rural Cozad died April 5, 2004, at his home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Cozad Christian Church with the Rev. Larry Thomas officiating. Burial with military honors will be at Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad.

He was born icon Dec. 16, 1916, in Arnold to Chester and Florence (Dennis) Bean.

On May 2, 1942, he married Mable Magnuson in Las Vegas.

Survivors include his wife; sons, Charles of Cozad and Mitchell of North Platte; a daughter, Peggy Maack of Cozad; sisters, Lorine Rutner and Betty Cole, both of Arnold; six grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

Mary Ellen Hipsher
Former Broken Bow resident, 81

OMAHA - Mary Ellen Hipsher, 81, of Omaha, formerly of Broken Bow, died Monday, June 7, 2004, at Life Care Nursing Home in Omaha.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow with the Rev. Dr. Charles Gregory officiating. Burial will be at Broken Bow Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 8 am. to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Lois Anderson
Alma resident, 78

KEARNEY - Lois Darlene Anderson, 78, of Alma died Monday, Aug. 2, 2004, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

Memorial services will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Christian Homes Chapel in Holdrege with Wayne Carlson officiating.

There will be no visitation; the body will be cremated.

Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege is in charge of arrangements.

She was born icon May 5, 1926, on the family farm in Phelps County to Ernest and Lois (Hopkins) Johnson.

On March 14, 1948, she married Donn Anderson in Holdrege. He died Nov. 13, 1999.

Survivors include her son, Kenneth of Republican City; daughter, Cheryl Strolberg of Axtell; brothers, Dean Johnson of Ragan, Larry Johnson of Kearney and Dennis Johnson of Alma; sister, Phyllis Wentling of Franklin; and five grandchildren.

Geraldene Berryman
Kearney resident, 86

KEARNEY — Geraldene Irene Berryman, 86, of Kearney, formerly of Cozad, died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004, at Mother Hull Home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Cozad Church of Christ with the Revs. Roger Sloan of Cozad and Ken Fairbrother of the Countryside Christian Church in Kearney officiating. Burial will be at Cozad Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Reynolds-Love Funeral Chapel in Lexington.

She was born icon Feb. 27, 1918, at home in Smithfield to Charles and Elizabeth (Melosh) Carroll.

On Feb. 19, 1937, she married Virgil Berryman in Ogallala. He died in 1971.

Survivors include her sons, James of Memphis, Tenn., William of Kearney and Richard of Long Beach, Calif.; daughters, Janet Thompson of Santa Rosa, Calif., and Betty Rowe of Smithfield; brother, Delbert Carroll of Lexington; sisters, Marjorie Burnett of Lexington and Carolyn Dorwart of Tucson, Ariz.; 13 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Additional survivors include her daughters-in-law, Phyllis of Memphis and Karen of Kearney; son-in-law, Terry Rowe of Smithfield; sister-in-law, Doris Carroll of Lexington; and brothers-in-law, James Burnett of Lexington and Dick Dorwart of Tucson.

She graduated from Lexington High School in 1934. After graduation, she worked as a member of the Telephone Operators’ Association at the Lexington Telephone Co.

She and her husband moved to St. Louis, where he graduated from the School of Mortuary Science.

In 1945, they moved back to Cozad and founded Berryman Funeral Home. As the business grew, she became active in church and civic affairs.

She received her Nebraska Funeral Directors License in 1958. After the death of her husband, she became president of Berryman Funeral Home, which she continued to operate with her younger son, Richard, until she retired in 1983.

In 1997, she moved to Kearney, where she lived until her death. During her retirement, she enjoyed extensive traveling, china painting, church activities and her family and friends.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Gene Carroll; sister-in-law, Alice Carroll; daughter-in-law, Nancy Berryman; and granddaughters, Tammi Rowe, Sandra Thompson and Amy Berryman.

Memorials are suggested to the Cozad Church of Christ, Countryside Christian Church in Kearney, Nebraska ALS Research or the Kearney Hospice.

Joan Alvis
Callaway resident, 72

CALLAWAY — Joan L. Alvis, 72, of Callaway died Friday, Dec. 3, 2004, at Callaway Good Samaritan Center.

Arrangements are pending with Timm-Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Callaway.

Todd Becker
Kearney resident, 18

KEARNEY — Todd M. Becker, 18, of Kearney died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2005, as a result of an automobile accident in Kearney.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at First Lutheran Church with the Revs. Tom Mroch and Rob Kuefner officiating. Burial will be at Kearney Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary.

He was born icon Jan. 17, 1987, in Kearney to Bill and Kim (Ziegler) Becker.

Survivors include his parents; brothers, Craig and Keith, both of Kearney; and grandmothers, Bernice Ziegler and Delores, both of North Platte.

Additional survivors include his niece, Aubrey of Kearney.

He grew up in Kearney and was currently a senior at Kearney High School.

His greatest love was athletics and spending time with friends. He participated in track and football at KHS and in Kearney American Legion baseball.

He was an avid reader who had an interest in current events and was concerned about issues in today’s society.

He was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Kearney.

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Robert Ziegler and Clarence.

Memorials are suggested to the Kearney High School Boosters Club or the Kearney American Legion Baseball Program.

Robert England
Kearney resident, 89

KEARNEY - Robert E. England, 89 of 5410 17th Ave. died Thursday, June 27, 2002, at St. John's Good Samaritan Center in Kearney.
Graveside services will be at noon Monday at Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell with Chaplain Norval Holtmier officiating. Military rites will be by the North Platte Veterans' Group.
There will be no visitation.
Memorials are suggested to First Presbyterian Church of North Platte or the care cen-ter in Kearney.
O'Brien-Straatmann-Apfel Funeral Home of Kearney is in charge of arrangements.
He was born icon July 25, 1912, southwest of North Platte to Frank and Eva (Edmisten) England. He attended country school. In 1920, the family moved to Edmonds, Wash., for three years. In 1923, the family moved back to the ranch near North Platte. He graduated from Hershey High School. He attended the University of Nebraska and was initiated into the FarmHouse Fraternity in 1931. He graduated from Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colo., in 1938.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1946. He was stationed at Fort Knox, Ky., where he was attached to the 1st Armored Division. He attended Officer's Candidate School and was commissioned a second lieutenant. He taught at the Replacement Center and was later transferred to the 210th Armored Division at Camp Campbell, Ky. He was transferred to Fort Ord, Calif., attached to the 788th Amphibious Tractor Battalion. He participated in the invasions of the Philippines and Okinawa in World War II.
On Aug. 29, 1942, he marred Elinor Foster of Brady in Fort Knox.
They returned to the ranch near North Platte and ranched with family until they retired and moved to Kearney.
He was an elder and deacon of the church in North Platte and later was a member of First Presbyterian in Kearney.
He was past president of the Lincoln County Fair Board and the Lincoln County Ex-tension Board. He was a 4-H leader for many years.
He enjoyed horses, cattle, pheasant hunting, sports, especially Nebraska football and the Kentucky Derby, and spending time with family.
Survivors include his wife; sons, Stephen of Kearney and Mike of Arnold; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
