Ward Tabor
Former Gibbon resident, 90
LAMPASAS, Texas - Ward E. Tabor, 90, of Lampasas, formerly of Gibbon, Neb., died Wednesday, June 26, 2002, at the Lampasas Nursing Center.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Gibbon Riverside Cemetery with the Rev. Barbara Spangler officiating and military rites by Gibbon American Legion Post 310.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. at Godberson Mortuary in Gibbon.
He was born
July 14, 1911, in Ainsworth to James and Sadie (Stearley) Tabor. The family moved to Gibbon, where he received his education. He farmed with his family in the Gibbon area and in Wyoming.
On Jan. 14, 1942, he married Viola Catlin in Lexington.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. In 1943, he was stationed at the Kearney Air Base. In 1949, he transferred with the Kearney Air Base to Austin, Texas, and remained there until he retired in 1971.
The couple moved to the Hastings and Kenesaw area, and then to Gibbon in 1993. His wife died in 1998.
He moved to Lampasas in 2001 and became a resident of the care home earlier this year.
Survivors include his son, Darrell of Blackfoot, Idaho; daughter, Barbara Bragdon of Lampasas; brothers, Harold of Boise, Idaho, Orn and Leonard of Eugene, Ore., and Earl of Farnam; sister, Lorene Matzner of Gothenburg; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers.
Janet Wamsley
Kearney, 47
KEARNEY - Janet E. Walker Wamsley, 47, of Kearney died Saturday, Oct. 19, 2002, as a result of an automobile accident in Kearney.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church in Kearney with the Rev. Jer Gilbreath officiating. Burial will be at Kearney Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary in Kearney and before services Thursday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the Kearney Public Schools Foundation for an educational fund that will be established for her children.
Gladys Markwardt
Campbell, 95
CAMPBELL - Gladys Genevieve Markwardt, 95, of Campbell died Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002, at Grandview Manor in Campbell.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Westminster United Presbyterian Church in Campbell with the Revs. Mark Diehl and Bob Tate officiating. Burial will be at Osco Cemetery north of Campbell.
Campbell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
She was born
on Feb. 8, 1907, to George and Lena Reichstein on a farm eight miles north of Campbell. She attended school in the Sportsville and Shellhamer rural school districts in Adams and Webster counties. She attended Campbell High School through the 11th grade.
On Dec. 24, 1925, she married Frank Markwardt in Hastings and lived on a farm five miles northwest of Campbell for 11 years before moving into Campbell in 1936. Her husband died in 1984.
From 1949 to 1984 she worked in the cafeteria at Campbell Public School.
She was a member of the Hastings Seventh-Day Adventist Church, attended church and Sunday school at the Congregational Church in Campbell, was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary in Hastings and of the Rebekah lodge.
She enjoyed quilting.
Survivors include her sons, Jack and Melvin, both of Lincoln, and Franklin of Campbell; daughters, Beverly Rutt of Campbell and Azule Hupf of Hastings; brother, Worell Reichstein of Cowles; sisters, Geraldine Rasser of McCook and Bonnie Grenhalgh of Blue Hill; 20 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by six brothers, a son, a grandson and an infant great-grandson.

ANSLEY - Raymond Eugene Tucker, 72, of Ansley died at his home.

KEARNEY - Lucile Stefanski, 91, of Kearney died Sunday, Aug. 8, 2004, at Mother Hull Home.

Riley Trampe
Overton resident, 19 months
ELM CREEK - Riley Cole Trampe, 19-month-old son of Ron and Jackie Trampe of Overton, died Wednesday, May 21, 2003, in a drowning accident near Elm Creek.
Services were May 24 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lexington with the Rev. Michael Gruhn officiating. Burial was at Elm Creek Cemetery.
O'Brien-Straatmann-Apfel Funeral Home of Elm Creek and Kearney was in charge of arrangements.
He was born
Oct. 10, 2001, in Kearney to Ron and Jackie (Wuehler) Trampe.
Survivors include his parents; brothers, Hunter and Keaton of Overton; sister, Jordyn of Overton; and grandparents, Roland and Dorothy Trampe of Elm Creek and Melvin and Luella Wuehler of Amherst.
He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents.
Max Ringenberg
Elwood resident, 79
LINCOLN - Max Ringenberg, 79, of Elwood died Friday, June 6, 2003, in Lincoln.
Services were today at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Elwood with the Rev. Kenton Birtell officiating. Burial was at Elwood Cemetery. Berryman Funeral Home of Cozad was in charge of arrangements.
He was born
Sept. 1, 1923, in Frontier County south of Eustis to Henry and Jessie (Umberger) Ringenberg. He graduated from Elwood High School in 1941 and worked on the family farm with his father.
On Sept. 29, 1946, he married Phyllis Puls. He attended auctioneering school in Indiana and later owned and operated the Elwood Livestock Sale Barn.
He then worked for John Deere Implement Co. as parts manager and retired in 2002 after 50 years in the business.
He was a charter member of the church and was chairman of the church council. He served on the board of education for 11 years and was board president during the new school construction. He served as Cub and Boy Scout Scoutmaster while a cabin at Johnson Lake was built for Scouts and their families.
He enjoyed hunting, bowling, golf and Nebraska athletic events.
Survivors include his wife; sons, Jay of Lincoln and Tod of Elkhorn; brother Don of Elwood; three grandchildren and one great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by a sister.
Iris Shofstall
Ex-Kearney resident, 87
OMAHA - Iris G. Shofstall, 87, of Omaha, formerly of Kearney, died Friday, Aug. 22, 2003, at Immanuel Hospital in Omaha.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Kearney with the Rev. Thomas Hansen officiating.
Memorials are suggested to the church or the Kearney Public Schools Performing Arts Center.

ALMA - Edwin W. Witte, 87, of Alma, formerly of Orleans, died Monday, Aug. 2, 2004, at Colonial Villa Good Samaritan Center in Alma.

Chester Boyle
Kearney resident, 78
KEARNEY - Chester H. Boyer, 78, of 1818 W. 24th St. died Tuesday, June 25, 2002, at Good Samaritan Hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at O'Brien-Straatmann-Apfel Funeral Home in Kearney with the Rev. Greg Mast officiating. Burial with military rites by the North Platte Veteran's Group will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today and one hour before services Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.
He was born
Oct. 16, 1923, in Humboldt, to George and Etha (Rowe) Boyer. He grew up in southeastern Nebraska. He received his education in various schools including the Platte Valley Academy near Shelton.
On Jan. 10, 1938, he married Margaret Howell in Kentucky.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1965 and served during World War II and the Korean War.
After he retired from the Army, he worked as a law enforcement officer in Elm Creek, Gibbon and Cairo.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
Survivors include his sons, Alvin Brisbin of Kearney and Douglas of Rocky Mount, N.C.; daughters, Delores Potter of Lexington, Shirley Schwarz of Elwood, Cindy Lienemann of Gibbon and Rita of Kearney; brothers, George of LaPorte, Texas, and Charles of Frye, Texas; five stepsisters; 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and special friend, Evelyn Smith of Gibbon.
He was preceded in death by his wife and several stepsisters.
Robert Duane Maurer
Holdrege, 76
LINCOLN - Robert Duane Maurer, 76, of Holdrege died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002, at BryanLGH Medical Center East in Lincoln.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at All Saints Catholic Church in Holdrege with the Rev. Steve Cooney officiating. Burial with military honors will be at Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege.
Visitation will be until 9 p.m. today at Nelson-Harris Funeral Home in Holdrege with the family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Rosary will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the church.
He was born
Jan. 1, 1926, in Genoa to Robert and Edith (Stromburg) Maurer. He graduated from Genoa High School in 1943.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946. He trained in radio operations in Madison, Wis., and served in the Pacific during World War II.
He returned to Genoa. In 1950, he began working for Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. in Grand Island, McCook and then in Holdrege until his retirement following a 40-year career.
On Sept. 18, 1948, he married Helen Shields in McCook.
He was a member of the church in Holdrege, the Holdrege Country Club, the Elks Club, Eagles Club, the American Legion in Holdrege and the Telephone Pioneers.
He enjoyed spending time with family.
Survivors include his wife; son, Steve of Atlanta; daughter, Barb Long of Holdrege; brothers, Richard of St. Edward, Marvin of Lincoln and Philip of Omaha; sister, Roberta Sohrweid of Denver; and six grandchildren.
Norma Jacobs
Franklin, 78
FRANKLIN - Norma Jean Jacobs, 78, of Franklin died Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002, at Franklin County Memorial Hospital.
