Norma Maas
Overton resident, 76
KEARNEY - Norma "Jean" Maas, 76, of Overton died Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Overton United Methodist Church with the Revs. A.L. Cole and Dean Pofahl officiating. Burial will be at Overton Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Overton Funeral Home.
Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington is in charge of arrangements.
She was born
May 10, 1928, in Lexington to Harry and Bertha (Daiss) Pickett.
On Dec. 24, 1945, she married Bill Maas. He preceded her in death.
Survivors include her sons, Richard of Broken Bow, Gregory of Phoenix and Jeffrey of Overton; daughters, Stephanie Wood, Marcy Fleenor and Melissa Smith, all of Overton, and Cynthia McCourt of Kearney; 19 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Additional survivors include her daughters-in-law, Lynda of Broken Bow and Mary of Phoenix; and sons-in-law, John Wood, Pat Fleenor and Dave Smith, all of Overton, and Ron McCourt of Kearney.
She grew up in the Overton area and, along with her future husband, graduated from Overton High School in 1945.
In 1955, the family moved from Overton to the Los Angeles area. They returned to Overton in 1966 to establish a family home. Their home on Ninth Street was built in 1972.
She attended Kearney State College and worked at Plectron, Adams Street Market, the Burns Brothers Travel Center and was Overton Cemetery caretaker for many years.
She and her husband opened their hearts and home to countless foster children.
Like her mother, she couldn't wait for spring to be out working in her yard.
She especially enjoyed her bowling league, her Friday "coffees" with lifelong friends, her tour bus trips to the casinos and the fellowship of the church.
Her greatest love was teaching and caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Christopher Fleenor; a granddaughter; a great-granddaughter, Chase Grayek; brothers, Dale and Warren Pickett; and sisters, Blanche Bacon, Doris Stuart, Lela Hunter, LaVerna Ragsdale and Geraldine Landis.
A memorial has been established.
Grace Olsen
Minde resident, 91
MINDEN — Grace Olsen, 91, of Minden died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004, at Bethany Home in Minden.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Westminster United Presbyterian Church in Minden with the Rev. Dr. Berke Landrum officiating. Burial will be at Minden Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 8 p.m. today at Layton-Craig Funeral Home in Minden.
Warren Hoffman
Bloomfield resident, 84
BLOOMFIELD — Warren O. Hoffman, 84, of Bloomfield died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2004, at Good Samaritan Center in Bloomfield.
Services were today at First Trinity Lutheran Church in Bloomfield with the Revs. Duane Fahr and Gary Trowbridge officiating. Burial was at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Battle Creek.
Brockhaus-Scott Funeral Home in Creighton was in charge of arrangements.
He was born
Jan. 23, 1920, at their farm home northwest of Norfolk to Fred and Margaret (Ickler) Hoffman.
On Aug. 17, 1941, he married Esther Orness in Berlin, N.D.
Survivors include his wife; sons, Don of Holdrege, Richard and Mike, both of Bloomfield, and Bob of Norfolk; sister, Helen Malzahn of Bancroft; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Rolland Dunn
Former Kearney resident, 93
PLATTSMOUTH — Rolland W. “Rollie” Dunn, 93, of Plattsmouth, formerly of Kearney, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2005, at the Nebraska Masonic Home in Plattsmouth.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Marvin Koelling officiating and rites by Masonic Lodge 46 A.F.&A.M. of Kearney. Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Chariton (Iowa) Cemetery with the Rev. Paul Olson officiating.
Visitation will be one hour before service time Friday at the church in Kearney.
Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary in Kearney is in charge of arrangements.
Harold Massie
Cozad native, 88
COZAD - Harold Massie, 88, of Cozad died Wednesday, June 26, 2002, at his home in Cozad.
Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. July 20 at Parkview United Methodist Church in Cozad with the Rev. Robert E. Berlie Sr. officiating.
Memorials are suggested to the church.

He was born
Dec. 23, 1913, in Olathe, Kan., to Harry and Alma (Wortman) Massie. He graduated from Callaway High School and from Westmar College in Iowa. He later graduated from a seminary in Naperville, Ill. He served a church in Richland, Ill.
On Nov. 26, 1939, he married Ethel Ward. He served churches in Nebraska, including Gibbon, Arnold and Eustis. He earned a master's degree in the 1960s from Colorado State College. He taught school in western Nebraska until he retired. He had lived in Cozad since 1979. His wife died in 1989.
He was a member of the church in Cozad and the Retired Ministers Association, served as chaplain of the Cozad IOOF Lodge and was active in other organizations and associations. He had been active in local, state and national Democratic Party work. He participated in senior track and field events on the state and national level and won many awards.
Survivors include his son, Tom of Wahoo; daughter, Emily of Bloomfield; sister, Marilou Land of Jefferson City, Mo.; four grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother and a grandson.
Katie Drummond
Alma resident, 90
ALMA - Katie R. Drummond, 90, of Alma, died Friday, August 2, 2002, at Harlan County Hospital in Alma.
Arrangements are pending at Banta-Torrey Funeral Home in Alma.
Sallie H. Pakes
Kearney, 97
KEARNEY - Sallie H. Pakes, 97, of 5616 Fourth Ave. died Monday, Oct. 7, 2002, at Good Samaritan Hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Luke's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Tom Hansen officiating. Burial will be at the Kearney Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8:30 p.m. today at Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary. The casket will be closed at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
She was born
June 25, 1905, in West Grossdale, Ill., to George and Edith (Shimrock) Hayes. She grew up in Illinois.
On Aug. 29, 1927, she married Leonard Pakes in Chicago. They lived in Omaha until they moved to Kearney in 1967.
She was a member of the church, was active in the Altar Guild and was a former member of the church vestry.
She enjoyed cooking and entertaining.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1985.
Robert Stone
Elm Creek, 60
LEXINGTON - Robert L. Stone, 60, of Elm Creek died Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2002, at Tri-County Hospital in Lexington.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Elm Creek High School gymnasium with the Rev. Duke Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Elm Creek Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at O'Brien-Straatmann-Apfel Funeral Home in Elm Creek.
Memorials are suggested to the Elm Creek Fire and Rescue Unit.
He was born
Nov. 5, 1942, at Fort Mead Camp Post, S.D., to Lee and Rosella (Taubenheim) Stone. He attended grade school at District R-3 and graduated from Elm Creek High School in 1962.
On April 7, 1963, he married Sharon Sear in Elm Creek. They lived in Elm Creek.
He worked for Rockwell and drove truck for Sear Transfer. He had worked the past 30 years for Agri Co-op in Elm Creek.
His wife died Dec. 14, 1994.
Survivors include his son, Mark of Elm Creek; daughter, Michelle Head of Kearney; his mother, of Elm Creek; brothers, Donald and Leland, both of Elm Creek, and Lyle of Wilmington, Ohio; five grandchildren and four stepgrandsons.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his father and an infant son.
Myrna Todd
Lexington, 86
LEXINGTON - Myrna Todd, 86, of Lexington died Thursday, Feb. 6, 2003, at Tri-County Hospital in Lexington.
