FRANKLIN - Janis Marie Riley, 46, of Franklin died Sunday, April 13, 2003, at her home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hutchins Funeral Chapel in Franklin with the Rev. Stan Murdoch officiating. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Franklin.
Visitation will be until 9 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
She was born
Dec. 23, 1956, in Kearney, to Fred and Phyllis (Schulz) Flesner.
She attended Kearney Public Schools.
She was employed at Paxar in Holdrege for 14 years.
She had lived in Kearney and Alma and had lived in Franklin for 14 years.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Kearney and American Legion Jr. Auxiliary Unit 52 in Kearney.
Survivors include her sons, Darin of Minden and Damien of Franklin; daughter, Tina of Franklin; her mother of Republican City; brother, Terry Flesner of Funk; sister, Arvenia Weaver of Duncan; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father and an infant brother.
Elton Dubbs
Wood River resident, 84
WOOD RIVER -Elton E. Dubbs, 84, of Wood River died Sunday, June 1, 2003, at Western Hall County Good Samaritan Center in Wood River.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church in Wood River with the Rev. David Lamb officiating. Burial will be at Cameron Cemetery north of Wood River.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at First Presbyterian Church in Wood River.
Memorials are suggested to the church in Wood River or the family's choice.
Apfel-O'Brien-Straatmann Funeral Home in Wood River is in charge of arrangements.
He was born
Sept. 23, 1918, in Shelton to Emmett and Nora (Dean) Dubbs.
He graduated from Wood River High School in 1937.
He served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps from 1942 to 1945.
On Jan. 31, 1945, he married Jean Allan in Wood River.
He was a lifelong farmer in the Wood River area and operated a large custom farming business in Hall County and the surrounding counties.
He served on the Wood River Rural High School District 83 School Board for 16 years and served as an elder and a deacon of the church in Wood River.
He served on the ASCS board for six years, served as a Wood River Booster and was on the Cameron Cemetery board for several years.
Survivors include his wife; sons, Richard and David, both of Cairo, Randall of Shelton, and Michael, Danny, Terry and Wendell, all of Wood River; sisters, Colleen Snyder of Shelton, Cuba Snyder of Arnold and Bonnie Goodwin of Cairo; 16 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sisters.

Former Gibbon resident, 80
SANTA MARIA, Calif. - Bruce S. Thatcher, 80, of Santa Maria, formerly of Gibbon, Neb., died Aug. 4, 2003, at his home.
Graveside memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Riverside Cemetery in Gibbon with the Rev. Merle Unruh of Hesston, Kan., officiating and military rites by Gibbon American Legion Post 310.
Memorials are suggested to the Humboldt Redwoods Interpretive Association or the donor's choice.

Loup City resident, 93
ST. PAUL - Lloyd A. Grudzinski, 93, of Loup City died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2004, at Howard County Community Hospital in St. Paul.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Josaphat's Catholic Church in Loup City with the Rev. Louis Nollette officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Loup City.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Peters Funeral Home in Loup City and from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church with a 7 p.m. vigil service.
He was born
Nov. 30, 1910, on a farm near Ashton to Peter and Teckla (Woitaszewski) Grudzinski.
On Oct. 20, 1934, he married Clara Palu in Loup City.
Survivors include his wife; son, Allen of Grand Island; daughters, Althadene Placek of Loup City and Betty Kaslon of York; brothers, Arnold of Loup City and Eugene of Ashton; sisters, Aileen Zaleski of Loup City and Deloris St. Louis of Craig, Colo.; eight granddaughters; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Richard Henninger
Shelton resident, 75
SUN CITY WEST, Ariz. - Richard L. Henninger, 75, of Shelton died Sunday, April 4, 2004, at Del Webb Memorial Hospital in Sun City West.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Shelton United Methodist Church with the Rev. John Ewton officiating. Burial will be at Shelton Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and one hour before service time Saturday at the church.

Gerald Nichelson
Former Lexington resident, 57
CHULA VISTA, Calif. - Gerald L. "Jerry" Nichelson, 57, of Chula Vista, formerly of Lexington, Neb., died Sunday, June 6, 2004, in Chula Vista.
Services will be at 9 a.m. Friday at Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington with the Rev. Ed Maertens officiating. Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell with the Fort Riley Honor Guard presenting colors.
Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home in Lexington.
Carol Thomas
Kearney resident, 89
KEARNEY - Carol C. (Humphrey) Thomas, 89, of Kearney died Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004, at Mount Carmel Home in Kearney.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Kearney Cemetery with the Rev. North Sherrill Jr. officiating.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 8 to 10 a.m. Thursday at Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary in Kearney.
She was born
Dec. 20, 1914, in Overton to William and Estella (Thornburg) Ewing.
In 1933, she married Walter Humphrey in North Platte. He died in 1951.
In 1954, she married Francis Thomas in Chester. He died in 1987.
Survivors include her daughters, Kay Linch of Lexington, Karen Parks of Hastings and Helen Demaree of Bentonville, Ark.; 16 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
She grew up in Overton and graduated from Overton High School.
She was confirmed at Overton Christian Church.
She and her first husband lived in several locations before moving to Kearney in 1948.
She enjoyed canning, gardening, card playing and spending time with family.
In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her son, Wayne Humphrey in 2000; infant daughter, Linda Sue Humphrey; daughter, Shirley Fraas; son-in-law, Fred Fraas; two sisters; and two brothers.
Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Unit at Mount Carmel.
Mary Pearson
Holdrege resident, 83
HOLDREGE — Mary Pearson, 83, of Holdrege died Thursday, Oct. 14, 2004, at Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege.
Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church in Holdrege with the Rev. Dr. Dan Mitchell and the Rev. Dr. John Barklind officiating. Private burial will be at Prairie Home Cemetery before the memorial service.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday with the family present from 3 to 5 p.m. at Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege. The casket will be closed.
She was born
Nov. 28, 1920, in Holdrege to Harry and Edna (Brown) Ekberg.
On May 27, 1942, she married Roy Pearson in Holdrege.
Survivors include her husband; son, R. Michael of Fort Worth, Texas; and sister, Pauline Stansfield of Cape Cod, Mass.
Additional survivors include her granddaughter, Michelle Suberly and husband, Michael, of San Antonio; and great-granddaughters, Renae, Jessica and Elizabeth Suberly; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She attended school in Holdrege and graduated from Holdrege High School in 1937. She attended Lindenwood College in St. Charles, Mo., and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 1941.
She returned to Phelps County where her family had deep roots. Her paternal grandparents, John and Julie (Nelson) Ekberg homesteaded on a farm north of Funk in 1879. Her maternal grandparents, the J. M. Browns, located in the same area in 1885.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and enjoyed being active in the community. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, P.E.O. Chapter H, a member of Priscilla and served as president of the Phelps Memorial Hospital Service League. She also served on the board of directors and was treasurer of K-K Appliance Co.
She was an excellent cook and loved to entertain friends in her home. She was an avid reader and loved to knit.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, James Alan; her parents; and a brother and his wife, Kenneth and Ardyth Ekberg.
