Arapahoe resident, 85

ARAPAHOE - Faye Lillian Johannsen, 85, of Arapahoe died Friday, Jan. 30, 2004, at C. A. Mues Good Samaritan Center in Arapahoe.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Holbrook with the Rev. Dale Whitson officiating. Burial will be at Holbrook Cemetery.

Visitation will be until 8 p.m. today at Wenburg Funeral Home in Arapahoe and before service time Tuesday at the church.

She was born icon Nov. 4, 1918, in Holbrook to Harrison and Pearl (Gorton) Remington.

On Sept. 13, 1943, she married Jack Johannsen in Arizona.

Survivors include her husband; sons, Roger of Oak Harbor, Wash., and Dale of North Platte; daughter, Linda Widick of Grand Junction, Colo.; brothers, Clarence Remington of Duarte, Calif., and Arthur Remington of Holdrege; sisters, Marilyn Stark of Buena Vista, Colo., and Marjorie Duchek of Dorchester; and nine grandchildren.

Alice Newhouser
Wood River resident, 92

WOOD RIVER - Alice Lillian Newhouser, 92, of Wood River died Tuesday, April 6, 2004, at Western Hall County Good Samaritan Center in Wood River.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church in Wood River with the Revs. Rose Bartleson and William Williams officiating. Burial will be at Wood River Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Apfel-O'Brien-Straatmann Funeral Home in Wood River.

Carl Payne
Kearney resident, 92

KEARNEY - Carl "Skeeter" Payne, 92, of Kearney died Tuesday, June 8, 2004, at St. John's Good Samaritan Center.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Kearney with the Rev. Michael Lano officiating. Burial will be at Kearney Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary and before services Friday at the church.

Stanley Walker
Lexington resident, 67

KEARNEY - Stanley R. Walker, 67, of Lexington died Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington with the Rev. Ed Maertens officiating. Burial will be at Peckham Cemetery south of Gothenburg.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home in Lexington.

He was born icon Feb. 10, 1937, in Iowa City, Iowa, to William and Dorthy (Johnson) Walker.

On Oct. 1, 1957, he married Shirley Blazer in Gothenburg.

Survivors include his wife; son, Dale of Lexington; daughters, Kathy Jackson of Omaha and Susan Smith of Kansas City, Mo.; brothers, Ray of Algona, Iowa, and John of Minneapolis; and three grandchildren.

Doris Walker
Lexington resident, 92

ELWOOD — Doris Walker, 92, of Lexington died Thursday, Dec. 2, 2004, at Elwood Care Center.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church in Lexington with the Rev. Todd Karges officiating. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Lexington.

Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Reynolds-Love Funeral Chapel in Lexington.

She was born icon June 8, 1912, on a farm near Loomis to William and Emma (Foss) Hatting.

On Sept. 1, 1937, she married Allen Walker in Lexington. He died in 1997.

Survivors include her sons, Jeff and Donn, both of Lexington; brothers, Bill Hatting of Lexington and John Hatting of David City; and one granddaughter.

Rose Swanson
Ravenna resident, 102

RAVENNA - Rose S. Swanson, 102, of Ravenna died Wednesday, June 26, 2002, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Ravenna.
Arrangements are pending at Rasmussen Mortuary in Ravenna.

Kenneth Holthus
Bertrand resident, 84

BERTRAND - Kenneth H. Holthus, 84, of Bertrand died Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, at the Bertrand Nursing Home.

A private scattering service of cremains will be at a later date.

There will be no visitation.

Memorials are suggested to Good Samaritan Hospice.

Sandstrom Funeral Home in Bertrand is in charge of arrangements.

He was born icon Jan. 21, 1918, on a farm north of Bertrand, to Dietrich and Clara (Suhr) Holthus. He grew up and attended rural school in Phelps County. At the age of sixteen, he moved to San Jose, Calif., where he was employed in construction.

In 1947, he married Roberta Thomas. The family moved to the Bingham Canyon area in Utah. They later moved to Ely, Nev. He also worked in Porte Rias, Chile. He returned to the Lake Tahoe area and worked on the Feather River Project. She died in 1961.

He was employed by the Golden Gate Bridge Corp. in San Francisco until he retired in 1981. He returned to the farm north of Bertrand.

Survivors include his sisters, Delores Muller of Mesa, Ariz. and Elvera Rohrs of Kearney; stepson, Bruce of Ely, Nev.; five step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a sister and a stepson.

Brad Malcom
Minden, 47

MINDEN - Brad Malcom, 47, of Minden died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002, at his home in Minden.

Arrangements are pending with Layton Funeral Home in Minden.

Hazel Tomasek
Lexington, 102

ELWOOD - Hazel Tomasek, 102, of Lexington died Friday, Dec. 13, 2002, at Elwood Care Center.

Arrangements are pending with Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.

Theorodre Menke Cozad, 94

LEXINGTON - Theodore D. "Ted" Menke, 94, of Cozad died Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, at Tri-County Hospital in Lexington.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Feb. 22 at Buffalo Grove Presbyterian Church east of Cozad.

Berryman Funeral Home of Cozad is in charge of arrangements.

Velma Talbert
Minden resident, 88

MINDEN - Velma Talbert, 88, of Minden died Sunday, April 13, 2003, at Kearney County Health Services Hospital in Minden.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Minden United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bill Hunter officiating. Burial will be at Minden Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Layton Funeral Home in Minden.

She was born icon March 20, 1915, in Kearney County to John and Nellie (Schmidt) Smiley. She attended Minden High School.

On Dec. 31, 1932, she married Willard Talbert in Smith Center, Kan.

She owned and operated the Minden Floral Shop for many years. She did upholstering. She also worked as a nurse for many years at the Long Term Care Unit, Kearney County Community Hospital and Bethany Home, all in Minden, and at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

Later, she provided home care to many people in the area.

Her husband died in 1991.

She was a member of the LLL Extension Club, Avion Campers, Good Sam Campers, Holdrege China Painters and several card clubs, and was active in the church where she sang in the choir for many years.

Survivors include her daughters, Margaret Bunger of Upland and Jan Tolksdorf of Minden; sisters, Shirley Streck of Hastings and Dorothy Kennedy of Kenesaw; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, a brother and two sisters.
