Roland Swanson
Kearney resident, 61

LINCOLN - Roland R. "Rolly" Swanson, 61, of Kearney died of cancer Sunday, Aug. 3, 2002, in Lincoln.

Services were today at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Marvin Koelling and the Rev. Ron Harris officiating. Burial will be at Kearney Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association.

Horner-Lieske-Hormer Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

He was born icon July 25, 1942, in Kearney to Carl and Evelyn (Dittman) Swanson.

He graduated from Kearney High School in 1960. He graduated from the University of Wyoming in 1964.

On Aug. 6, 1962, he married Wendy Leadholm in Redwood Falls, Minn.

They lived in Kearney. He earned a master's degree in education in 1968 from Kearney State College.

They moved to York where he was a guidance counselor for York Public Schools.

He received a specialization in education administration and supervision degree in 1975 and a doctorate in education from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1981.

He was assistant principal and later was principal of York High School. He retired in 1986 and moved to Kearney.

He was appointed by the governor to the Selective Service System and served from 1981 to 1996. He received the I.D.E.A. Distinguished Educator Award.

He attended the church in Kearney. He was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity at UW and a member of the York Jaycees.

He enjoyed all sports, especially baseball, and played minor league ball for the St. Louis Cardinals. He also enjoyed reading, hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife; sons, Randy of Kansas City, Mo., and Barry of Lincoln; brother, Roger of Albuquerque, N.M.; and sister, Kristi of Cheyenne, Wyo.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Dewitt Schroder
Holdrege resident, 74

HOLDREGE - Dewitt Eugene "Dewey" Schroder, 74, of Holdrege died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003, at Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church in Holdrege with the Rev. Melva Tranmer officiating. Burial will be at Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Nelson-Harris Funeral Home in Holdrege with the family present from 3 to 5 p.m.

He was born icon April 28, 1929, in Milford to Grace (Bubak) Berniklau of Ansley. He was adopted at the age of 10 months by Glenn and Dorothy Schroder of Huntley.

On Oct. 4, 1953, he married Vearl Johnson.

Survivors include his wife; sons, Kevin and Michael, both of Holdrege; daughter, Marian Brown of Grand Island; brothers, Lavern of Denver, LaWayne of Roy, Utah, Lloyd Chingren of Tiyunga, Calif., and Leo Chingren of North Platte; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Dale Kimple
Minden resident, 83

MINDEN - Dale G. Kimple, 83, of Minden died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2004, at his home in Minden.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bethany Lutheran Church in Minden with the Rev. Donald Hunzeker officiating. Burial will be at Minden Cemetery with military rites by the Minden American Legion and Heartwell Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Layton Funeral Home in Minden.

He was born icon Sept. 15, 1920, in Omaha to Roy and Maren (Winther) Kimple.

On May 9, 1948, he married Ardyce Ubben. She died in 1991.

On Feb. 12, 1994, he married Suzanne Lind.

Survivors include his wife; sons, Jack of Minden and Kerry of Kearney; sister, Erma Schroeder of Fallbrook, Calif.; two grandchildren; stepsons, Jeff Lind of Hastings and Steve Lind of Phillipsburg, Kan.; stepdaughters, Krisana Taylor of Lincoln, Linea Bonham of Franklin and Marti Anderson of Minden; 10 stepgrandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.

Additional survivors include his daughters-in-law, Candace of Minden and Shari of Kearney; stepdaughter-in-law, LeeAnne Lind of Hastings; and stepsons-in-law, Joe Taylor of Lincoln, Craig Bonham of Franklin and John Anderson of Minden.

As a child, he moved to Minden. He graduated from Minden High School in 1939.

He served in the U.S. Marines during World War II.

He returned from the service and for a short time worked in Franklin for Standard Oil.

He and his first wife lived in Minden. He worked for Standard Oil and later owned and operated Kimple Oil. He retired in 1991.

He and his second wife enjoyed dividing their time between their cabin in Harlan County and their home in Minden.

He enjoyed following his grandchildren's activities. His family was very important to him.

He was a member of American Legion Post 94, Heartwell VFW and Bethany Lutheran Church in Minden.

Memorials are suggested to Good Samaritan Hospice or the church.

Dale Parrish
Kearney resident, 86

KEARNEY - Dale M. Parrish, 86, of Kearney died Monday, April 5, 2004, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Stan Murdoch officiating. Burial with military rites by Kearney American Legion Post 52 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 759 will be at Kearney Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday with the family present from 6 to 7 p.m. at Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary and before services Friday at the church.

He was born icon April 1, 1918, in the Sartoria area of Buffalo County to Frank and Verna (Eickmeier) Parrish.

On Sept. 30, 1939, he married Floris Fisher. She preceded him in death.

On Aug. 17, 1962, he married Alma Hansen in Kearney.

Survivors include his wife; sister, Arlene Kahle of Kearney; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and stepsons, Dennis Hansen and Lary Hansen, both of Blackfoot, Idaho, Michael Hansen of Minneapolis, Minn., and Ivan Hansen of Kearney.

He grew up in the Sartoria area and graduated from Amherst High School in 1935.

He sold newspapers, worked at his father's gas station in Amherst and then worked at Joyce Lumber in Oconto.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U. S. Army from 1944 to 1946. After his discharge, he worked at Joyce Lumber in Sumner.

He bought the lumber company and it became Parrish Lumber Co. in 1983.

He and his second wife moved to Kearney in 1985.

He was a member of First Baptist Church in Kearney, Rob Morris Masonic Lodge 46 AF&AM, Tehema Temple Shrine of Hastings and the Fort Kearny Shrine Club, where he was active with the Razz Tazz scooter group. He was also a member of Legion Post 52 and VFW Post 759.

In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, two brothers and a sister.

Memorials are suggested to the Shriners Crippled Children Transportation Fund or to First Baptist Church.

Michael Shada
Former Minden resident, 37

MESA, Ariz. - Michael Shane Shada, 37, of Mesa, formerly of Minden, Neb., died Sunday, June 6, 2004, at his home.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Minden with the Rev. Dr. Berke Landrum officiating. Burial will be at Minden Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Layton Funeral Home in Minden.

Edwin Witte
Alma resident, 87

ALMA - Edwin W. Witte, 87, of Alma, formerly of Orleans, died Monday, Aug. 2, 2004, at Colonial Villa Good Samaritan Center in Alma.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Orleans with the Revs. Harlan Waskowiak and John Berkel officiating. Burial will be at Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Orleans.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Mitchell Funeral Home in Orleans.

Rosary services will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church in Orleans.

He was born icon April 30, 1917, in Lawrence to Clement and Elisabeth (Ostdiek) Witte.

Survivors include his brother, Gerald of Cambridge; and sisters, Irene Kubik and Patricia Young, both of Cambridge, and Vera Laughlin of Canon City, Colo.
