KEARNEY - Carol C. Thomas, 89, of Kearney died Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004, at Mount Carmel Home in Kearney.

Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Kearney Cemetery with the Rev. North Sherrill Jr. officiating.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 8 to 10 a.m. Thursday at Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary.

Amelia Schultze
Lexington resident, 93

LEXINGTON — Amelia W. “Millie” Schultze, 93, of Lexington died Thursday, Oct. 14, 2004, at Plum Creek Care Center in Lexington.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lexington with the Rev. Michael Gruhn officiating. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery in Lexington.

Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the church.

Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington is in charge of arrangements.

She was born icon May 10, 1911, in Mason City to Fred and Mary (Lange) Schultze.

Survivors include her sister, Minnie of Lexington.

Leonard Slade
Orleans resident, 73

KEARNEY — Leonard E. Slade, 73, of Orleans died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2004, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

Graveside services will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Mount Hope Cemetery in Beaver City with the Rev. Wesley Russell officiating.

Wenburg Funeral Home of Beaver City is in charge of arrangements.

He was born icon July 2, 1931, in Benkelman to Guy and Fern (Ridlane) Slade.

On Dec. 20, 1968, he married Donna Struble. She died Aug. 8, 2002.

Survivors include his sons, Steve, Tim and Larry, all of Iowa; and three grandchildren.

Frederick Hammond
Kearney resident, 84

KEARNEY - Frederick "Fred" A. Hammond, 84, of Kearney died Tuesday, June 25, 2002, at Good Samaritan Hospital.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary with the Rev. C.J. Willis officiating. Burial will be at Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Max-well with military rites by the North Platte Veterans Group.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday and until service time Monday at the mortuary.

Joyce Kugler
Riverton, 47

FRANKLIN - Joyce Ann Kugler, 47, of Riverton died Monday, Oct. 21, 2002, at Franklin County Memorial Hospital in Franklin.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Hutchins Funeral Chapel in Franklin with the Rev. Nancy Cole officiating. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Franklin.

Visitation will be until 9 p.m. today, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, and from 8 a.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home.

She was born icon Nov. 8, 1954, in Grand Island, to Chris and Phyllis (Enevoldsen) Espersen.

She attended Blessed Sacrament Elementary School and graduated from Central Catholic High School in Grand Island in 1973.

She lived in Grand Island.

On June 25, 1977, she married Lyn Kugler in Grand Island. They lived in Ravenna until 1989, when they moved to Riverton.

She worked as a cook at Franklin Nursing Center and Franklin County Memorial Hospital. She later worked for Casey's General Store and Co-op Country Store, both in Franklin.

Survivors include her husband; daughters, Corey Doles of Edison and Tracey of Riverton; brother, Jerald Espersen of Amherst; and sister, Janice Greene of Grand Island.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Velma Talbert
Minden resident, 88

MINDEN - Velma Talbert, 88, of Minden died Sunday, April 13, 2003, at Kearney County Health Services Hospital in Minden.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Minden United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bill Hunter officiating. Burial will be at Minden Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Layton Funeral Home in Minden.

Ferne Wilkinson
Former Broken Bow resident, 86

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - D. Ferne Wilkinson, 86, of Colorado Springs, formerly of Broken Bow, Neb., died Friday, June 13, 2003, at Laurel Manor Care Home in Colorado Springs.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow with the Rev. Kathleen LaRocque officiating. Burial will be at Broken Bow Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary.

She was born icon March 28, 1917, in St. Edward, Neb., to John and Freida (Thoms) Eacker.

The family moved to Broken Bow in 1922.

She graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1935.

She attended beauty school in Omaha and earned her beautician's license.

In January 1942, she married Virgil Piercy Jr. in Fremont.

In October 1963, she married Berton Wilkinson. He died in May 1986.

She was employed at the Custer County Register of Deeds Office, the Farmers Home Administration in Albion and Ogallala, and at Becton Dickinson in Broken Bow. She retired in 1985.

She enjoyed walking her dog, watching television and reading.

In 1997, she moved to Colorado Springs to live with her daughter. She was a resident at Union Printers Home and later of Laurel Manor.

Survivors include her daughter, Jeannie Halouska of Colorado Springs; brothers, George Eacker and Kenny Eacker, both of Broken Bow, Don Eacker of Lincoln, Jim Eacker of Buena Park, Calif., and Jack Eacker of Rio Del, Calif.; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.

Angela Ready
Summer Haven Lake resident, 80

KEARNEY - Angela E. Ready, 80, of Summer Haven Lake died Friday, Oct. 17, 2003, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Greenwood Cemetery in Franklin with family members conducting services.

There will be no visitation.

Memorials are suggested to the Center for Cancer Care and Research at Watson Clinic in Lakeland, Fla.

Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

She was born icon April 28, 1923, in Dallas to Ernest and Alicia (Navarro) Skinner.

She received her education in Texas and California.

On Dec. 14, 1941, she married Boyd Ready in Las Vegas.

They moved to Beaver City, where they operated a general merchandise store for seven years.

They moved to Lincoln in 1953. She was the department manager and dress buyer for Hovland-Swanson Ladies Fine Apparel Store from 1954 to 1975.

In 1965, they purchased a series of small lakes in Kearney, which they combined into one lake and developed Summer Haven Lake recreational area with cabins and homes. They built their own home there in 1970.

They spent winters in Orlando, Fla.

After they retired in 1976, they owned Thunderbird Turquoise Jewelry Co. until 1994.

Her husband died Aug. 1, 2001.

Survivors include her sons, Boyd of Holdrege and Mike of Orlando; daughter, Susie Miller of Orlando; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother and an infant sister.

Paul Moore
Loup City native, 38

PORTLAND, Ore. - Paul A. Moore, 38, of Portland, formerly of Loup City, Neb., died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003, at Kaiser Sunnyside Hospital in Portland.

Memorial gathering will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mason City (Neb.) Community Hall. Private family services will be earlier at Mason City Cemetery.

He was born icon Nov. 25, 1965, in Broken Bow, Neb.

Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Phyllis and Dale Baltz of Loup City; father and stepmother, Dennis and Joan Moore of Wahoo, Neb.; sisters, Diana Meiergerd of Fremont, Neb., and Julie Wilbeck of Lincoln, Neb.; brothers, James of Kearney, Neb., and Tom of Wood River, Neb.; and stepsisters, Pam Moore of Lincoln; Kim Bals of Swanton, Vt., Patti Wheeler of Wales, United Kingdom, Marilee Malcomb and Sharon Hueftle, both of Eustis, Neb., and Jodi Toerff of Lincoln.
