Henry F. Brandt Jr.
88, Lincoln, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, (8-3-10). Born (4-27-22) to Henry F. Brandt, Sr. and Emma (Steller) Brandt, on a farm southwest of Beatrice. U.S. Navy Veteran (1942-1946). married Lorene Elsasser on January 9, 1944. Served on the Gage County Fair Board for 19 years, Nebraska State Fair Board 7 years. Became manager of the Nebraska State Fair in 1964. Under his management improvements were made: 1974 – New Agriculture Hall, 1976 – Bob Devaney Sports Center, 1977 – new grandstand and race track, 1978 – landscape project, 1980 – new beef barn, 1981 – youth complex, 1982 – new horse barns. Former President of Gage County Farm Bureau, past President of Farmers Co-op Elevator, past President of Kiwanis, past member of Lincoln Sowers Club, Southwood Lutheran Church, the Man Power Commission of the American Lutheran Church and National Mission committee, Mid-West Fairs Association, past President of International Association of Fairs and Expositions 1978-79; lifetime member IAFE, inducted into the IAFE Hall of Fame 1980, an International Certified Fair Manager. Currently was serving on the 1868 State Fair Foundation Board.

Worked for General Dynamics Quality Insurance, U. S. Military Base, Puerto Rico. Avid athlete and outdoorsman. Could fix anything with duct tape and bailing wire.

Vivian E. Anderson
94, Lincoln, beloved mother and grandmother, died Friday (8-6-10). Born (2-13-16) in Stromsburg, Nebraska, the daughter of Curtis Ray and Esther E. (Twarling) Warner. Graduate of Stromsburg High School and Lincoln School of Commerce. Ret. 1985, Life Underwriter for Woodman Accident and Life Insurance Co., 29 yrs. married to Vernon Anderson on July 23, 1939, he preceded her in death in December 2006. Member since 1951, Second Baptist Church. She will especially be remembered by her family for her selflessness, intelligence, and a sense of humor. Vivian was an accomplished cook and superb baker, creating cakes in the shape of animals and princesses for birthdays. She was an expert seamstress who quilted by hand but kept her sewing machine ready for her children’s dance costumes, Halloween costumes, repairs to clothing, and surprise creations such as Barbie and doll dresses for her daughter and granddaughters. A proud grandmother, Vivian attended numerous sporting events, concerts, and recitals, was never too busy to play card games or do a puzzle.
