Elizabeth J. MacRae

84, widow of Gordon MacRae passed away on September 7, 2010 in Lincoln, Nebraska. Born in Davenport, Nebraska on December 7, 1925, she was the daughter of Effie and Eugene Lambert. She was oldest of six children, and from an early age, developed a love of nurturing her siblings. She graduated from Pawnee City High School in 1943. Liz possessed a spirit of adventure and left Nebraska at an early age to see the world. Though her travels took her many places, It was in New York City where she met and married the love of her life, Gordon. Their daughter, Amanda Mercedes, was born icon of their union in 1968. Her strong family ties ultimately drew her back to Nebraska in 1980 where she made Lincoln her home. So many things could be said of Liz, who lived bigger than life. She loved art, music, and poetry. She had something to say about everything and loved sharing the many amazing stories of her life. She appreciated the little things in nature and adored her animals; Co-Co, Ruffie, Barley and Kitters to name a few. But love of family was what set her heart aflame. Liz was devoted to her loved ones which also included a list of long time friends including Joan Furr and Ginny Parker, whom she treated as family. She cherished her only child Amanda and when grandson Dayton was born, Liz simply delighted in being a Grammy, and in her declining months, his presence was her joy.

Visitation: No visitation.

Service: Memorial Services will take place on Monday, September 13, 2010, at 1:00 p.m. at Roper and Sons' Chapel, 4300 ‘O’ Street, Lincoln.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Amanda Daley and son-in-law, Lance Daley; and grandson, Dayton Gordon. She is also survived by sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and Charlie Curtin, Nancy and Hess Dyas, Joan and Bill McNally; brothers and sisters-in-law, Steven and Karen Lambert and Jerry and Yvonne Lambert. Also surviving are step-daughter, Heather MacRae of New York; and step-son Gar MacRae, and his wife, Emily, of Vashon Island, WA. In addition, Liz is survived by many step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of long time friends, all of whom will mourn her loss and miss her friendship.

Preceding her in death are her parents; her husband, Gordon; step-daughter, Meredeth MacRae; and step-son, Bruce MacRae.

Elizabeth’s family would like to extend sincere thanks to the staff at Independence House for their loving care and compassion.

Norbert L. Schroeder

80, Lincoln, NE, died September 9, 2010. Norbert ‘Nobby’ Schroeder, born October 6, 1929, in Cleveland, North Dakota, the son of Jacob and Mary Schroeder. Norbert was raised on a farm in Cleveland, North Dakota. He graduated from Sheyenne River Academy in Harvey, ND, and attended Union College in Lincoln, NE. While in Lincoln he met his wife, Carol, and they were married 54 years. Nobby worked at the Gas Co. retiring 40 years with Minnegasco. He was president and Business Manager of IBEW Local # 244 for 15 years. He was honored to receive the Al Bauer Labor Leader of the year award, a plaque for Significant Achievement on behalf of Organized Labor in the city of Lincoln, The Richard Nolan Memorial Service Award for outstanding service, an award for Nebraska State Utility Workers in Appreciation for his service and leadership to the Utility Workers of Nebraska. Nobby served the youth of the community as Little Chiefs Coach, and Indian Guides leader. Nobby had a passion for Union work, fishing, hunting, helping people, watching the Cornhusker Marching Band, keeping up with his grandkids, and staying busy.

Visitation: Sunday (9-12-10) 2:00PM-8:00PM at Roper and Sons, 4300 'O' Street, Lincoln, Nebraska

Service: Memorial Service: 3:00 PM Monday (9-13-10) at Roper and Sons Funeral Home, 4300 O Street, Pastor Doug Delhay, officiating.

Family Gathering: Family greeting friends from 6:00PM-8:00PM

Cemetery: Lincoln Memorial Park, Lincoln, Nebraska

Nobby is survived by his wife, Carol J.; two daughters Pamela (Dan) Kunzman, Beatrice and Amy L. Filbert, Lincoln; son Alan L., Lincoln; brother-in-law Chris Heil, Holly Springs, NC; sister-in-law, Janet Schroeder, Fort Collins, CO.; and four grandchildren: Katelyn and Hannah Kunzman and Abby and Luke Filbert.
He was preceded in death by Sister Agnes Heil and brother Ronald Schroeder.

Berna M. "Betty" Donnermeyer

83, Lincoln, died Wednesday (9-8-10). Born (2-18-27) in Windhorst, Kansas to Benjamin and Helen (Schreck) Indiek. married to Matthew “Tony” in 1950 in Windhorst. They just celebrated their 60th anniversary. She was a homemaker who enjoyed playing cards, cooking, and being with her grandkids. She has spent the last 15 years wintering in South Texas.

Visitation: No Visitation; her wishes were to donate her body to science.

Audrey E. Cary

83, Lincoln, died Thursday (9-9-10). Born (8-7-27) in Waterloo, Nebraska to Lowell P. and Ruth E. (Cunningham) Todd. Homemaker. Active volunteer in various civic organizations throughout her life.

Dr. Russell L. Gorthey

87, of Lincoln, NE passed away Saturday (9-11-10). Retired physician. Born (7-26-23) in Murdock, NE to Leroy B. and Bessie M. (Vandenburg) Gorthey.

He was a member of First-Plymouth Congregational Church, Past President State Medical Assn, Past President Lancaster County Medical Assn, Past Moderator First-Plymouth Church, Past President of Lincoln General Hospital Board of Trustees, Recipient of Jack E. Elliott Award that is given to a Nebraska doctor who has contributed the most to Nebraska medical education. He was the author of six articles published in the American Journal of OB/GYN. He was also a 2nd Lt. and navigator in the Air Force during WWII.

Family members include wife: Vivian (Glebe) Gorthey, Lincoln, NE; daughters and sons-in-law, Gwen and Steve McManaman, Norfolk, NE, Jill and J.R. Richardson, Lincoln, NE, Jan and John Klaus, Milwaukee, WI; grandchildren and spouses, John and Ann McManaman, Travis McManaman, Lindsay and Drew Bouchard, Jeff Richardson, Carrie Richardson, Joel Klaus and Johnny Klaus; great-grandchildren, Cameron and Lauren McManaman. He was preceded in death by parents, sisters, Dorothy Magorian and Irene Bornemeier.

Peggy L. (Shinker) Jalalian

51, Lincoln, died Saturday (9-11-10). Born (10-23-58) in Chadron, Nebraska to George and Marilyn (DiTonto) Shinker. Her career included working 18 years at LT&T as a telephone operator and working 10 years in various customer service jobs in Lincoln. Peggy loved to travel. She traveled to five countries which included France, England, Wales, Monaco and Mexico.

Gerald G. "Jerry" Delzell

66, Lincoln, NE, died Wednesday (9-8-10). Jerry was born icon on June 12, 1944 in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Milton Sumner and Mabel Sackett Delzell. He graduated from East High School in Sioux City, IA, in 1962 and went on to earn bachelors and masters degrees in business and finance from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln where he was affiliated with the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. On September 16, 1967 he was united in marriage to Jerilyn Gustafson in Wakefield, Nebraska. During college, Jerry started working for First Nebraska Securities (later First Mid-America) in Lincoln and began his lifelong career in the investment business. While there, Jerry worked as a stockbroker and managed the syndicate department. Jerry completed his career at RBC Wealth Management as a First Vice President and Financial Consultant. During his life, Jerry loved spending time with family, serving his customers as friends, watching Nebraska football and caring for others. He participated on the board of YoungLife, led Bible studies and spoke for Stonecroft Ministries and acted as an elder for MiddleCross Church.

Visitation: 3:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Sunday at Roper and Sons, 4300 'O' Street, Lincoln, Nebraska

Service: 10:00 a.m. Monday (9-13-10) First Evangelical Free Church, 3300 South 84th Street. Pastor Daniel Delzell officiating

Family Gathering: Family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. concluding with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.

Cemetery: 3:45 p.m. burial in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City, IA.

Jerry is survived by his wife, his daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and Jeff Ray of Elkhorn, NE; his son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Darcie Delzell of Wheaton, IL, and five grandchildren: Trevi, Nathan and Olivia Ray of Elkhorn, NE and Clara and Samantha Delzell of Wheaton, IL. He is also survived by his two brothers and their wives: Douglas and Kay Delzell and W.W. “Wally” and Marge Delzell, both of Sioux City, Iowa, and his brother-in-law and his wife, Tom and Brenda Gustafson of Wakefield, NE and many nieces and nephews.
