Delores Harder
Lexington

Delores "Dee" Harder, 78, of Lexington, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2005, at Cozad Community Hospital in Cozad.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Lexington, with the Revs. Todd Karges and John Craig officiating.
Burial was in the Benkelman Cemetery in Benkelman.
Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington was in charge of arrangements.
She was born June 3, 1926, at Oak Creek, Colo., to Hartley and Blanche McKenzie. After her mother's death, Delores found a mother figure in her stepmother, Gwen.
Survivors include a daughterand son-in-law Ellen and Doug Cunning-ham of Lexington; a son and daughter-in-law, John and Cathy Shurtleff of Grand Island.
Other survivors include five grandchildren, Elizabeth (Jay) Mins of Kearney; Stephanie Cunningham of Lincoln; Matthew Cunningham of Lexington; Dawn (Monty) Carson of Broomfield, Colo.; Kristen (Craig) Pucket of Grand Island; and three great-grandchildren, Ashly and Lacy Carson, and Ethan Mins.
Delores grew up in Benkelman where she graduated high school. In 1945, she married Stanley Shurtleff. To this union one son, John Stanley was born. After Stan's death she ran a restaurant in Benkelman. In 1955, she married George E. Harder. To this union one daughter, Ellen Jean, was born.
The family moved to various places including McCook, Holdrege, Grand Island, Lincoln and St. Louis, Mo. In 1970 the family settled in Lexington where George and Delores built Harder's Lakeview Marina at Johnson Lake.
After selling the marina George and Delores moved to Las Vegas, but returned to Lexington in 1978. At that time they opened Harder's Adams Street Market.
She took great joy in spending time with her family and for the last year lived with Doug, Ellen and her grandchildren. She enjoyed daily contact with her grandchildren and took many trips with the family. She will be greatly missed/
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church for more than 50 years.
She also enjoyed having coffee with the "girls."
She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, Stanley, and stepmother Gwen McKenzie.
Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.

Warren Rapp
Holdrege

Warren Rapp, 88, of Holdrege, died Friday, Dec. 31, 2004, at Christian Homes in Holdrege.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. at Bethel Lutheran Church in Holdrege. The Rev. David Sites officiated with burial in the Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege.
The Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege was in charge of arrangements.
Warren Rapp was born on Oct. 28, 1916, in Kearney County, to Arthur and Esther (Backander) Rapp.
Survivors include one son, Gerald, and his wife, Joan, of Grand Island; one daughter, Joyce Francis and her husband, Bill, of Funk; six granddaughters, Tammy Johnson of Grand Island; Brenda Bodfield and her husband, Paul, of Upland; Susie Boomhower and her husband, Tim, Lisa Fread and her husband, Bill, Marsha Young and her husband, Don, all of Lexington; and Glenda Sturgis of Omaha; one grandson, Junior Rapp and his wife, Tammy, of Grand Island; 12 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Bernice Nelson of Kearney; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Warren was baptized on Feb. 15, 1918, at Bethany Lutheran Church near Axtell and was confirmed on June 12, 1932 at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Holdrege.
The family made their home on the family farm near Axtell. Later the family relocated to a farm north of Potter, then returned to Holdrege.
Warren received his education at rural schools near Axtell, Potter and Holdrege. Following his education, he engaged in farming, helping neighbors and family. He later worked in Holdrege at Grainger Brothers, Sunglow Dairy and later owned and operated the Cozy Inn Café with his wife.
On Aug. 2, 1936, he was united in marriage to Jessie Blanche Reagan at Bethel Lutheran Church in Holdrege and to this union two children were born, Gerald and Joyce. Warren and Blanche were married 62 years and lived their entire married life in the Holdrege area. Blanche preceded him in death on Sept. 6, 1998.
Warren was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy as a gunner's mate on the destroyed USS Fanning, until his honorable discharge on Dec. 6, 1945. He was a member of the American Legion Martin-Horn Post 66, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, serving on the honor guard for several years and on the color guard for many area parades.
Warren enjoyed his family and grandchildren. He loved the holidays and spent many hours decorating his home for Christmas. He enjoyed woodworking, making several Santa's, which were painted, for family and friends. He was an avid bowler on several different leagues. He loved animals and often adopted many homeless ones.
In addition to his wife, Blanche, he was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Tennis Rapp and his wife, Esther; one sister, Marie Nelson and her husband, Clarle; one brother-in-law, Delmar Nelson; one niece, Patty Giles; and one great-great-granddaughter, Raney.
A memorial has been established in his memory.

The Rev. James K Irwin
Gering

Rev. James K Irwin, minister emeritus, 87, of Gering, died Friday, Dec. 31, 2004, at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff.
A Celebration of Life service will be Friday, Jan. 7, 2005, at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Gering. Cremation will follow the service. Visitation will be 1-8 p.m. Wednesday (today) at the Gering Memorial Chapel and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday with family present 6- 8 p.m.
Gering Memorial Chapel in Gering is in charge of arrangements.
Jack Howard Slater, son of Gladwin and Hilda Slater, was born Nov. 9, 1917, at Blackfoot, Idaho.
He was adopted by Mr. and Mrs. Hugh C. Irwin on June 7, 1920, and was given the name James K Irwin.
Irwin is survived by his wife, Bette; sons James K Irwin, Jr., of Columbus, David Paul Irwin of Sumner, and Stephen Richard Irwin of Grand Island; daughters Christine Irwin of Gering, Mary Irwin of Scottsbluff and Beth Kumpost of Anchorage, Alaska; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; his sister, Jacquline Carrell of Ft. Collins, Colo.; half-brother Allen Slater of Lynnwood, Wash., and a half-sister.
The family moved from a homestead southeast of Kimball to Alliance in 1920. James attended school there and graduated from Alliance High School in 1936.
In 1937 he enrolled in Nebraska Wesleyan University at Lincoln and graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in 1941. In September of 1941 he enrolled at Drew Theological Seminary in Madison, N.J., and graduated in 1945 with a bachelor of divinity degree.
He was united in marriage on May 26, 1943, to Elizabeth (Bette) Felver at Phillipsburg, N.J. and to this union six children were born, three sons and three daughters.
Following graduation from seminary, they moved to Nebraska where they made their home until their retirement. Since their retirement in 1982, they have divided their time between Gering and Tempe, Ariz.
Jim began his ministry at Ithaca in September of 1938, where he served as student pastor from 1938-1941. Over the years he served the following churches: Associate Pastor and Youth Director, Roselle Park, N.J., 1942-43; Columbia-Hainsburg, N.J., 1943-45; Ceresco-Ithaca, 1945-49; Chester-Hubbell, 1949-54; Valentine, 1954-63; Lexington, 1963-70; Holdrege-Ragan-Wilcox, 1970-74 and Gering, 1974-82.
Since his retirement in June of 1982, he was involved in fund-raising for West Nebraska General Hospital and Nebraska Wesleyan University on a part-time basis. He has served as interim pastor at Plymouth Congregational Church and Salem Congregational Church, both in Scottsbluff, several times. He also filled pulpits whenever needed all over western Nebraska. For several years he did pastoral work in the Dayspring United Methodist Church in Tempe, Ariz., during the winter months,
His honors include: Honorary President of Oregon Trail Days, Admiral in the Nebraska Navy, Trustee at the Regional West Medical Center and Pastor Emeritus of the Nebraska Methodist Church.
Jim has been involved with volunteer work of one kind or another since retirement.
His parents preceded him in death.

Albert Ebers
Seward

Albert J. Ebers, 95, of Seward died on Sunday, Dec. 26, 2004, at Seward.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 31, at United Methodist Church in Seward. The Rev. Eric Ford will officiate.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Thurs-day, Dec. 30, at Wood-Zabka Funeral Home in Seward and one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.
A private family interment will be held in Salem Methodist Cemetery.
Wood-Zabka Funeral Home in Seward is handling the arrangements.
He was born on March 22,1909, near Seward.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Helen Jean and Robert Thompson of Lexington and Mary Ann and Roger Hans of Seward.
Other survivors include six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Ebers was a member of the Seward United Methodist Church and numerous church groups. He was a longtime Seward County farmer and a member of various agricultural organizations.
He was a 70-year member of Goehner Grange No. 371, Nebraska State Grange Master. He was a 1987 inductee into the Nebraska Hall of Agricultural Achievement and won the Nebraska Builder Award in 1996.

La Rae Crick
Cozad

La Rae Crick, 71, of Cozad died Friday, Feb. 25, 2005, in Kearney.
Services were Tuesday, March 1, at Berryman Funeral Home Chapel inCozad. The Rev. Lyle Schoen will officiate.
Visitation was Monday, Feb. 28, at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Cozad Cemetery. Berryman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
She was born Aug. 22,1933, near Elwood to Ralph and Eltha (McGraw) Hanson.
On May 13, 1950, she married V. "Kit" Crick. He died in 1990.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, David and Cynthia Crick and Bill and Brenda Crick, both of Cozad; three daughters and sons-in-law, Vickie and Gary Lee and Sharon and Delmar Armagost, both of Cozad, and Stacy and Dave Larsen of Omaha; one brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Karen Hanson of Cozad; two sisters and one son-in-law, Thelma and Dale Burgess of Thornton, Colo., and Lola Robertson of Cozad.
Other survivors include nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She attended rural school in Gosper County and Cozad schools.
On May 13, 1950, she was married to V. "Kit" Crick.
The couple made their home in Cozad.
Early in their marriage, she was employed at Monroe Auto Equipment Co.
Preceding her in death was her husband in 1990; a brother Doyle Hanson and a sister, Norma Bratten.

Patricia Gauger
Lexington

Patricia N. Gauger, 72, of Lexington died Monday, Feb. 28, 2005, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 2, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lexington. Pastor Michael Gruhn will officiate.
Private family burial will be held prior to the Memorial Service in Greenwood Cemetery at Lexington.
There will be no public visitation. Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington is in charge of arrangements.
She was born Sept. 3, 1932, in Oakland, Calif., to William and Helen (Taves) Doty.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Kurt and Sarah Gauger of Charlotte, N.C., and three daughters and two sons-inlaw, Kathy and Doug Niederdeppe and Kyle Davis, all of Lexington; and Kelly and Jed Dobberstein of Kearney; and one brother, William "Bill" Doty, Jr. of San Leandro, Calif.
Other survivors include six grandchildren, Ryan Davis, Trevor Dobberstein, Jake Davis, Chelsea Dobberstein, Rachel Davis and Makenna Niederdeppe.
She grew up in California and graduated from Fremont High School, in Fremont, Calif., in 1950.
After high school she went to Comptometer School.
On Feb. 8, 1953, she married John P. Gauger in Oakland, Calif. The family moved to manydifferent places before settling in Lexington in 1965, where she has made her home ever since.
She grew up attending the Lutheran Church and assisted the Girl Scouts when her daughters were young.
Patricia enjoyed gardening, bird watching, crocheting, needlework and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
She will be very missed.
Preceding her in death were her parents; and her husband, John, in 1978.
Memorials are kindly suggested to the Lexington Volunteer Fire Department.

Louise Henderson
Lexington

Louise Faye Henderson, 90, of Lexington died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005, at the Tri-County Hospital in Lexington.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, March 2, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Ann's Catholic in Lexington. The Rev. Paul Colling will officiate.
Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Lexington.
Visitation was from 2 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.
Vigil Service at was at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington. Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington is in charge of arrangements.
She was born June 7, 1914, in Sterling, Colo., to Albert and Myrtle (Cook) Goedert.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Norma and Bob Bappe of Lexington.
Other survivors include a special grandson, Gregory Ross Henderson of Mission Viejo, Calif., along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family lived in California for a few years before moving to Lexington. Louise graduated with the Class of 1934.
In 1934, she married Ross Henderson. She worked for many different places in Lexington including Frosts, American Crystal Sugar Company, McDonalds Clothing Store and Reach Electronics.
She was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Lexington.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 1968, son Duane, brothers Harold, Ernest and Al, and sister Fern.
In lieu of flowers memorials are kindly suggested to the American Heart Association.
