LaVern Colby
CENTRAL CITY -- LaVern A. Colby, 69, of Central City, formerly of Clarks, died Monday, April 3, 2000, at Long Term Care in Central City.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Solt Funeral Home in Central City. The Rev. Richard Fairbanks will officiate. Burial will be in the Pierce Chapel Cemetery near Clarks.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Colby was born
Feb. 2, 1931, near Belgrade to Edgar M. and Sophia (Blankemeier) Cleaveland. She grew up near Belgrade and attended rural Nance County School. She worked at the Cold Storage in Central City from 1949 until her marriage.
She married Glenn Cumins Colby on May 4, 1952, in Central City. After her marriage she worked at the Clarks Cafe, the Clarks School cafeteria and worked with her husband at Colby Garage, their business. Mr. Colby died on Nov. 23, 1981. Mrs. Colby did babysitting in her home until her health failed. She moved into Long Term Care in Central City in July 1997.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Clarks, the UMW Sewing Club and the Town and Country Craft Club. She enjoyed all sports, crocheting, crafts, needlework and attending her grandchildren's activities.
Survivors include one son, Douglas of Fullerton; two daughters, Karen (Mrs. Dean) Cobb of Central City and Pam (Mrs. Bill) Mues of Grand Island; two sisters, Alvera (Mrs. Harvey) McIntire and Elise (Mrs. Harold) Mace, both of Central City; two brothers, Clarence of Omaha and Earl of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and six grandchildren.
Ione Dilsaver
TAYLOR -- Ione Dilsaver, 69, of Taylor, died Monday, April 3, 2000, at her home west of Taylor.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Marcia C. Smith Auditorium in Taylor. Fred Cram will officiate. Burial will be in the Madison Square Cemetery west of Taylor.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family or the Madison Square Cemetery Fund.
Hazel Johnson
BURWELL -- Hazel Marie Johnson, 90, formerly of Ericson, died Sunday, April 2, 2000, at the Community Memorial Health Center in Burwell.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Ericson United Methodist Church. The Rev. Cynthia Altstadt will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Scotia.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Ord Memorial Chapel.
Memorials are suggested to the church or the health center.
Mrs. Johnson was born
on May 3, 1909, in Wheeler County to Joseph and Emily (Gion) Foster. She grew up on a farm in Greeley County and attended country school.
She married Guy Johnson on Oct. 4, 1934, in Greeley County. The couple farmed in Greeley County throughout their marriage. They moved into Ericson in 1972. She continued to live in Ericson until 1992, when she moved to the Burwell Community Memorial Nursing Center.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Ericson, Willing Workers Club and a canasta club.
She enjoyed flowers, crocheting, crossword puzzles and reading.
Survivors include one son, Roger of Ericson; one daughter, Maxine (Mrs. Dean) Peterson of Ericson; four grandchildren; seven great-grandsons; and one brother, Richard "Dick" Foster of Ericson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two infant daughters, three half brothers, one half sister and four brothers.
Albena Kaslon
ST. PAUL -- Albena Kaslon, 89, of St. Paul died Sunday, April 2, 2000, at her home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in St. Paul. The Rev. Jack Rademacher will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in St. Paul.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul and from 6 to 8 p.m., with a rosary at 7 p.m., Wednesday at the church. Further visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to service time Thursday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mrs. Kaslon was born
on Feb. 28, 1911, at Mitchell to Ignace and Anna (Guncek) Wajda. She attended school in Arcadia and then helped at home and did housekeeping for a neighbor.
She married Edward Kaslon on April 5, 1932, in Arcadia. They farmed north of Arcadia for five years. She worked at a cafe in Arcadia. They moved to Chicago in 1947, and she worked in a gear factory. They moved to Plattsmouth in 1950. She was a civilian employee in the cafeteria at Offutt Air Force Base for 15 years. They moved in 1957 to Omaha, where they live until 1973, when they moved to St. Paul.
Her hobbies included sewing, crocheting, gardening and homemaking.
She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and its altar society.
Survivors include two daughters, Elaine Kaslon of Tulsa, Okla., and Sandra Glaeser of Boca Raton, Fla.; two grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; and one brother, Louie Wajda of Ord.
Her husband died on April 28, 1994. She also was preceded in death by an infant son.
Warren Krause
BURWELL -- Warren Krause, 78, of Burwell, died Sunday, April 2, 2000, at the Community Memorial Health Center in Burwell.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First Christian Church in Burwell. The Rev. Rolly Salts will officiate. Burial will be in Cotonwood Cemetery at Burwell.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Eberle-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell.
Memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church or the family.
Joe Poland
SARGENT -- Joe Poland, 71, of Sargent, died Saturday, April 1, 2000, at Darien, Ga. at his winter home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Rhoad Funeral Home in Sargent. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery at Sargent.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Harriett Anderson
GOTHENBURG -- Harriett Aimee Anderson, 81, of Gothenburg, died Sunday, April 2, 2000, at Hilltop Estates.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church at Gothenburg. The Rev. David Fowler will officiate. Burial will be in the Gothenburg Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday with the family greeting friends Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Blase Memorial Chapel in Gothenburg.
A memorial has been established.
Mrs. Anderson was born
March 5, 1919, at Loup City to James and Julia Aimee (Warren) Conger. She graduated from Loup City High School in 1937. She later graduated from Kearney State College.
She taught school at Litchfield country school and Holdrege High School.
She married Lawrence Albert Anderson on Oct. 9, 1949 at Grand Island. Following their marriage they lived north of Gothenburg where they farmed until moving into Gothenburg in 1997. Mr. Anderson preceded her in death on Sept. 15, 1999.
She was a member of the New Hope Dorcus, Etna Extension Club, United Methodist Church, Women's Group and Prayer Group. She also enjoyed painting.
Survivors include three daughters, Christy Meyer of Fremont, Mary Lou (Mrs. John) Block of Gothenburg and Aimee (Mrs. Larry) Benson of Grand Island; one son, Alan Anderson of Van Meter, Iowa; and 15 grandchildren.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by two brothers, Harry and Clinton and one sister, Sadie.
Lola Espersen
Lola P. Espersen, 71, of the Grand Island Veterans Home died Saturday, April 15, 2000, at the home.
Services are pending with Kleine Funeral Home in Grand Island.
Allen Jensen
Allen A. Jensen, 78, of Grand Island died Thursday, April 13, 2000, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Leo's Catholic Church. The Rev. Jack Rademacher will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., with a Scripture service at 7 p.m., Sunday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Mr. Jensen was born
on Feb. 9, 1922, in Cordova to August and Mary (DeCamp) Jensen. He grew up and was educated in Cordova. He graduated from Cordova High School in 1940. He helped with construction of the Fairmont Air Base.
He joined the U.S. Marine Corps on Oct. 9, 1942, in Omaha, served during World War II in Guam and the Philippines and was discharged on Oct. 15, 1945, in San Diego.
He married Rae Walkama on May 10, 1945, in Jacksonville, Fla. They lived in Lincoln and moved to Grand Island in 1946. Mr. Jensen joined the Nebraska State Patrol in June 1946.
The couple lived for 11 years in Central City, where he was the safety education officer. In 1966, they returned to Grand Island, where Mr. Jensen coordinated the State Patrol SWAT team and the state pistol team.
He retired in 1980 after 34 years with the State Patrol. He then worked as a security officer at Fonner Park and volunteered at Stuhr Museum.
He was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Vivian (Mrs. Patrick) Barry of Papillion; five sons, Allen of Geneva, David of Joshua Tree, Calif., Duane "Gus" of Grand Island, Mike of Lincoln and Mark of Hastings; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; eight sisters, Lorraine (Mrs. Gordon) Darling, Marge (Mrs. Bud) Lundy, Betty (Mrs. Marion) Lewis and Deanna (Mrs. David) Reetz, all of York, Mary Ann (Mrs. Lloyd) Wright of Blytheville, Ark., Marilyn (Mrs. John) Lortz of Lincoln, Carol (Mrs. Ronald) Anderson of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Edith (Mrs. Thayne) Stewart; and five brothers, Gale of Lincoln, Donald of Norman, Okla., Roger and Joey, both of York, and Gary of Hawaii.
He was preceded in death by one granddaughter and two brothers, James and Robert.
Edna Andres
AURORA -- Edna Andres, 88, of Aurora died Friday, April 14, 2000, at Memorial Long Term Care Center in Aurora.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at United Methodist Church in Aurora. The Rev. Joe Scahill will officiate. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday in Alma Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Higby Mortuary in Aurora.
Mrs. Andres was born
Aug. 13, 1911, to Guy Delbert and Carrie Evelyn (Ziegler) Baker at Alma. She grew up in Alma and graduated from Alma High School in 1928.
She married Ross Clifford Andres on April 28, 1928, at Phillpsburg, Kan. She operated a restaurant, where she was known for her cinnamon rolls. Mr. Andres died on Feb. 13, 1984. She moved to Aurora in September 1984.
She was a member of United Methodist Church in Aurora, where she taught Bible school.
She was an avid quilt maker, enjoyed collecting dolls and making doll clothes. She also loved baseball, especially the Chicago Cubs.
Survivors include one son, Lanny of Merced, Calif.; two daughters, Karry (Mrs. Kenneth) Smith of Giltner and Patty (Mrs. Merle) Payne of Loveland, Colo.; 15 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Richard Stanley Baker of Sun City, Ariz.; and one sister, Berniece Priest of Kansas City, Mo.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Raymond; an infant son, Donald; one grandson; one brother; and one sister.
