Louise Ruschmann

Louise E. Ruschmann, 87, of 508 S. Adams, died July 2, 2000, at the Park Place Health Care and Rehab Center of Grand Island.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Grand Island. The Rev. Martin Schmidt will officiate. Family prayer service will be at 1:45 p.m., immediately preceding the funeral service. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Grand Island.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Mrs. Ruschmann was born icon June 3, 1913, in Wayne County to Frank Obst and Marie (Baden) Obst. She grew up and attended school in Winside.

She married Claus C. Ruschmann on Dec. 8, 1953. The couple lived in Elkhorn and moved back to Winside in 1954. In 1958 they moved to Schuyler where she worked at a nursing home as a nurses aide. They then moved to the Grand Island area for a time, moving into Grand Island in 1968. Around 1969, she began babysitting and subsequently took in a cousin's daughter, Lisa Obst, whom she raised for 21 years.

Survivors include one son, Gerald Ruschmann of Grand Island; two brothers, Melvin of Phillips and Arnold of Grand Island; two sisters, Norma Jean Courtney of Onawa, Iowa, and Helen Raywinkle of California.

She was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers and one sister.

Loretta Tagel

Loretta Tagel, 76, of Grand Island, formerly of Ewing, died Sunday, July 2, 2000, at Tiffany Square Care Center.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Catholic Church southwest of Clearwater. The Revs. Jay Kruse, Mark Filips, Jake Bauer and Tom Ryan will officiate. Burial will be in St. Anthony's Cemetery south of Ewing.

Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Huffman's Snider Chapel in Clearwater and after 7 p.m., with an 8 p.m. Scripture service, Wednesday at the church.

Mrs. Tagel was born icon Sept. 22, 1923, in Norfolk to Joseph and Elizabeth (Rotherham) Thramer. She grew up in Ewing and graduated from Norfolk Sacred Heart High School in 1941.

She married Ludwig Tagel on Nov. 22, 1943, at St. John's Catholic Church. The couple farmed the Thramer homestead for a number of years and in 1982 moved to Grand Island.

She was a seamstress.

While living on the farm, she was a member of St. John's Catholic Church and St. John's Christian Mothers, a membership she retained while living in Grand Island. In Grand Island she was a member of St. Mary's Church and Altar Society.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, John of Grand Island and Joseph of Omaha; two daughters, Marilyn (Mrs. Milton) Styron of Caddo Mills, Texas, and Elizabeth (Mrs. Douglas) Schueth of Ewing; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Alex, Mark and Cletus, all of Ewing; and two sisters, Alice Funk of Clearwater and Bernadine Walnofer of O'Neill.

She was preceded in death by one granddaughter.

Bobby Warner

Bobby Ray Warner, 43, of Grand Island died Saturday, July 1, 2000, at his home.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Cathedral. The Revs. Don Buhrman and Tom Ryan will officiate. A wake will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the All Faiths Funeral Home. Mr. Warner will be cremated with a private family burial at the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

There will be no visitation.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Mr. Warner was born icon on July 30, 1956, at Kodiak, Alaska, to William and Lottie (Arndt) Warner. He was raised in Grand Island and attended Wasmer Elementary and Barr Junior High and graduated from Grand Island Senior High in 1974.

He married Karen Chiarbos on Aug. 7, 1998, in Grand Island. They lived in Grand Island. He worked at Overhead Door and part-time at the South Locust Pizza Hut.

He was a member of the Elks and enjoyed restoring his old pickup, bowling and the horse races.

Survivors include his wife; five brothers, Terry of Lynwood, Wash., and Ron, Don, William Jr. and Tom, all of Colorado Springs, Colo; and one sister, Linda Glines of Grand Island.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Sithay Zeleski

Sithay E. Zeleski, 48, of Grand Island died Sunday, July 2, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center from complications of lupus.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Resurrection Catholic Church. The Rev. Jim Schmitt will officiate. Burial will be in the Paxton Cemetery with a committal service at 3:30 p.m. Thursday.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday with a Scripture Wake service at 7 p.m. at the church. Family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Curran Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Zeleski was born icon January 28, 1952, at Sutherland to Harold and Darleen (Dalgarn) Barger. She grew up and attended school in Paxton and graduated from Paxton High School in 1970. She graduated from Kearney State College in 1974 with a bachelor of science degree in home economics and early childhood development.

She married Tim Zeleski on July 19, 1975, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Ogallala. They lived in McCook and she taught home economics at McCook Junior High School. The family moved to Grand Island in 1981. She was business manager and bookkeeper for three separate businesses.

She opened her own day care business and ran it for 15 years until she was forced to retire, due to ill health.

She enjoyed all forms of crafts, designing and sewing clothing, landscape painting and was an avid reader. Her joys were her family, doing for and giving to others.

She was baptized and confirmed at Paxton United Methodist Church. She joined the Catholic Church in 1975. She was a member of Resurrection Catholic Church, Crafters Guild, Lupus Support Group, & Nebraska Lupus Foundation.

Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Stephanie (Mrs. Duncan) Ndugwa of Lincoln; her mother, of Paxton; two sisters, Linda (Mrs. John) Sizer of Lewellen and Paulette (Mrs. Steve) Worley of Paxton; and one brother, Jon Barger of Paxton.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Alvin Pier

SPALDING -- Alvin F. Pier, 77, of Spalding died Monday, July 3, 2000, at the Boone County Medical Center.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Spalding. The Rev. Joe Hannappel will officiate. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday with rosaries at 4:30 and 8 p.m.

Dolce-Scheef Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Pier was born icon Oct. 10, 1922, in Spalding to Peter and Mary (Barnish) Pier. He attended grade school at District 4 and graduated from Spalding Public School in 1940.

He then graduated from Archer Aircraft School in Omaha and was employed in Dayton, Ohio, making airplanes. In 1943, he returned to the family farm south of Spalding and farmed there until February 1999 when he entered the Greeley Care Home.

He was a member of St. Michael's Men's Club and was an avid sports fan.

Survivors include one brother, Virgil of Bellevue; and three sisters, Florence Molczyk of Genoa, and LaVerna (Mrs. Paul) Galvin, and Peg (Mrs. Cletus) Galvin, all of Omaha.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph and Donald.

Marilyn Smith

Marilyn Alice Smith, 66, of Grand Island died Thursday, July 27, 2000, in Grand Island.

Graveside services were Saturday at the Greenwood Cemetery in York. Metz Mortuary of York was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials are suggested to the cancer fund.

Mrs. Smith was born icon Sept. 21, 1933, in York to Donald and Frances (Fenster) Jackson. She was a 1951 graduate of Hampton High School. She attended the University of Nebraska, Doane College and worked as a bookkeeper.

Survivors include two sons, Donald Fierstein of Omaha and Dennis Fierstein of Grand Island; one daughter, Diane Obrist of Lincoln; two grandchildren; and one brother, Roger Jackson of York.

Donald Willey

Donald L. Willey, 90, of Grand Island died Monday July 31, 2000, at Tiffany Square Care Center in Grand Island.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Gollaher Chapel of Trinity United Methodist Church. The Rev. Jim Keyser will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday with the family receiving friends from 6 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Willey was born icon Dec. 14, 1909, in Sidney, Iowa, to David and Carrie (Bowman) Willey. He grew up and attended school in Sidney, graduating from Sidney High School in 1928. He moved to Grand Island in 1930 and attended the Grand Island Business College, graduating in 1932.

He married Marjorie Lee on Oct. 20, 1935, in Grand Island, after which they lived in Grand Island. He worked for Nielson and Petersen, then Petersen and Petersen and later Bee Line, where he was its traffic manager. He retired in 1973, and they continued to live in Grand Island.

He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He loved music and sang in the church choir for over 50 years. He also sang in a barbershop quartet.

He also loved working in his woodworking shop and making things for others.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Michael of Natchez, Miss., James of Chadron and Donald of Garden Plain, Kan.; one daughter, Candace Willey of Grand Island; six grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, three sisters and one grandson.

Stanley Cyboron

BOELUS -- Stanley F. Cyboron, 89, of Boelus died Monday, July 31, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rockville. The Rev. Thomas Ryan will officiate. Burial will be at 2 p.m. in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Grand Island.

Visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church. A wake service will follow.

Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.

Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home of St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Cyboron was born icon May 8, 1911, in Silver Creek to John and Leona (Czapala) Cyboron. In 1921, he moved with his family to a farm in the Boelus area. He attended rural school District No. 28 near Boelus and grew up on the family farm. As a young man, he farmed in the Boelus area.

On Jan. 16, 1934, he married Laura Engel at Farwell. The couple first farmed, then later moved into Boelus, where he worked for the Union Pacific Railroad. In 1951, the couple moved to a farm near Boelus, where he was living at the time of his death.

While living on the farm, he also worked for the sugar beet factory in Grand Island for a number of years. He also did custom thrashing and later corn shelling and custom combining in the Boelus area.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rockville.

He enjoyed card playing, gardening, raising flowers, fishing and birdwatching. His hobbies were collecting toy tractors and antique model cars.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Ronald of Aurora; two daughters, Betty (Mrs. Vance) Christensen of Boelus and Alyce (Mrs. Charlie) Wagner of Wolbach; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Laura Hansen of St. Paul, Elnora (Mrs. Gene) Emerson of Elyria, Ohio, and Mary Ann (Mrs. Donald) Plambeck of Grand Island; and five brothers, Leonard of Littleton, Colo., Benny of Boelus, Val and Edward, both of Grand Island, and John of Englewood, Colo.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Adolph and Raymond and an infant sister.
