Leonard Reynolds
PHOENIX -- Leonard E. "Jigs" Reynolds, 81, of Phoenix died July 22, 2000, at his home after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Reynolds was born
in Grand Island on Jan. 4, 1919, to Orval and Maisie Reynolds. He graduated from Grand Island Senior High School in 1938. He was a star athlete, lettering in both basketball and football. He was a member of the 1936 Nebraska state championship football team, which was undefeated, untied and unscored upon.
He joined the Nebraska National Guard in June 1940 and trained in Camp Robinson, Ark. He later went to Officer Candidate School and was commissioned in 1942.
He was assigned to the 9th Infantry Division and served in North Africa, Sicily, England, France and Germany. He was wounded in action in Africa and received the Purple Heart plus many other medals.
He married Celeste "Sis" Walters of Hastings on Dec. 24, 1945. After World War II, he served in Korea for 18 months and again in Germany and was stationed later in Colorado and Nebraska. He retired as a major in 1962 and lived in Phoenix since 1964.
He was active in Masons, Scottish Rite and El Zariba Shrine. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion and DAV. He loved to play golf and had scored six holes-in-one.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Peggy Mitchell of Phoenix; and one son, Robert of Colorado Springs.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Orval and Gene, and two grandsons.
Warren Garrett
Warren B. Garrett, 79, of Grand Island died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000, at St. Francis Funeral Home.
Services are pending at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home in Grand Island.
Thomas Stanton
Thomas J. Stanton III, 48, of Grand Island died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, at St. Francis Skilled Care Center after an illness.
Services will be at Resurrection Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m. Monday with the Rev. James C. Schmitt officiating. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday, with a rosary at 7 p.m. at Kleine Funeral Home Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Mr. Stanton was born
March 26, 1951, in Chicago to Thomas J. and Antoinette (Mercurio) Stanton Jr. He attended school in Elmhurst, Ill., and after graduation went to Southern Illinois University.
He worked at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Chicago as an admissions supervisor and continued to work for the Veterans Affairs Medical Center system in an administrative capacity until his death.
He married Laura J. Pasqua on June 4, 1977, in Chicago. They moved to Oklahoma City for two years and then moved to Cincinnati for two years. The family moved back to Illinois for four years and then to Madison, Wis. for seven years. In 1993, the family moved to Grand Island, where Mr. Stanton worked in an administrative position at the VA Medical Center until his death.
Mr. Stanton was a member of the Northwest High School Music Booster Club and served as the organization's president for three terms. He also was a Cub Scout Master of Den 53 at Shoemaker School. He had a strong community involvement. He was an advocate for veterans' rights and made many presentations to veterans organizations.
Survivors include his wife, Laura of Grand Island; two sons, Thomas J. Stanton IV and Michael Stanton, both of Grand Island; a daughter, Jennifer Stanton of Grand Island; his mother, Antoinette Stanton of the Chicago area; and five brothers, Phillip, Joseph, Daniel, William and James, all of the Chicago area.
He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas J. Stanton Jr.
Dale Hurlburt
ARCADIA -- Dale Hurlburt, 77, of Arcadia died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Funeral services are pending, with Ord Memorial Chapel in charge of arrangements.
Harold 'Coppy' Jones
GIBBON -- Harold E. "Coppy" Jones, 64, of Gibbon died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church in Gibbon with the Rev. Larry Booze officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery in Gibbon. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Godberson Mortuary in Gibbon. Godberson Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Morris Rama
BROKEN BOW -- Morris W. Rama, 77, of Broken Bow died Friday, Jan. 28, 2000 at Sandhills Nursing Home in Broken Bow.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow with the Rev. Doug Jones officiating. Burial will be in the Merna Cemetery with Govier Brothers Mortuary of Broken Bow in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow. Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church in Merna and the Custer County Hospice.
Mr. Rama was born
June 6, 1922, in Merna to Clarence Eugene and Wilma Loy (Taylor) Rama.
On Sept. 10, 1961, he married Pauline McCaslin at Broken Bow. The couple lived on the family farm west of Merna. In 1981, they retired from farming and moved to their home in Merna.
Mr. Morris enjoyed square dancing and was a member of the Prairie Prominadors. He also enjoyed visiting with friends and neighbors.
Survivors include his wife, Pauline, of Sandhills Manor Nursing Home in Broken Bow; a twin sister, Shirley Hickman Tucker of Broken Bow; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Earl Rama; and a great nephew.
June Thompson
OMAHA -- June E. Thompson, 81, formerly of Grand Island, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, at the Parsons House in Omaha.
Services are pending at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.

Esther Tyler
CHEYENNE, Wyo. -- Esther Kate Tyler, 90, of Cheyenne, Wyo., died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, at Cheyenne.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Schrader Chapel in Cheyenne. The Rev. Vic Walter will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens at Cheyenne.
Memorials are suggested to Faith United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Tyler was born
June 20, 1909, to Herman and Ella (Teng) Niemoth at Grand Island.
She married James Tyler. Mr. Tyler preceded her in death.
She was a member of Order of Eastern Star-Oak Leaf Chapter 6, Union Pacific Oldtimers Auxiliary, Queen Esther Circle and Chapter 1 Retired Railroaders Employees Club.
She was affiliated with Faith United Methodist Church.
Survivors include one son, Paul Tyler of Scottsbluff; and one sister, Viola Compton of Junction City, Kan.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by one brother, Herman Niemoth Jr. and one sister, Lily Guenther.
Lutannies 'Lou' Hogerson
Lutannies A. "Lou" Hogerson, 79, of Grand Island died Monday, June 28, 1999, at his home.
Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. The Rev. Richard Urbach will officiate. Burial will be at 11:30 a.m. in Freedom Cemetery in Funk.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Foundation.
Mr. Hogerson was born
on Aug. 12, 1919, in Funk to Carl A. and Inez Hogerson. He grew up on the family farm and attended high school in Holdrege.
He married Emma Ruth Williams in December 1943. He farmed until World War II. He served in the Army's 3rd Armored Division and saw action in France, England and Germany. He received the Purple Heart for injuries suffered in battle.
After his discharge from the service, he became interested in photography and woodworking and combined those interests to create a business of producing photo statuettes.
He was a member of state and national photography associations.
Survivors include two sons, Jim of Orlando, Fla., and Jerry of Yorba Linda, Calif.; and two granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by his wife.
Henry Stelk
Henry Stelk, 90, of Grand Island died Monday, June 28, 1999, at Tiffany Square Care Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. The Rev. Tom Ryan will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to Tiffany Square.
Mr. Stelk was born
on July 29, 1908, in Grand Island to Henry and Martha (Scherff) Stelk. He grew up and was educated in rural Hall County. He farmed with his brother, Robert Stelk, on the family farm. He continued to farm and feed livestock until his retirement. He moved to Tiffany Square on June 1, 1989.
Survivors include nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, one brother and two half brothers.
Warren Anthoney
ORD -- Warren Anthoney, 86, of Ord died Wednesday, June 30, 1999, at the Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.
Services are pending with Ord Memorial Chapel.
