Freddie Vieth

ASHTON -- Freddie S. Vieth, 67, of Ashton, died Monday, July 12, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Higgins Funeral Home in Loup City. The Rev. David Manning will officiate. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Friday at the Prairie Home Cemetery in Dillar.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Higgins Funeral Home in Loup City.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Opal Ross

LEXINGTON -- Opal Irene Ross, 71, of Lexington, died Monday, July 12, 1999, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington. The Rev. Tom Reynolds will officiate. Private inurnment will be at a later date.

Memorials are suggested to the Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation.

Mrs. Ross was born icon Aug. 22, 1927, in Kearney to Ray and Dorothy (Thomas) Maher. She grew up and attended school in the Sutherland area and graduated from Sutherland High School in 1946.

She married Lonnie Ross on Feb. 25, 1947, in Stapleton. The couple lived in Lexington since 1971. She worked at many restaurants.

She was a member of the Eagles Club.

Survivors include two sons, Bill of Lexington and Lonnie of Grand Island; three daughters, Charlene Collins of Stockton, Calif., Thelma Ross of Goodyear, Ariz. and Cindy (Mrs. Keith) Cook of Axtell; one sister, Lucille (Mrs. Dewey) Powell of North Platte; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two infant brothers.

'Petie' Wixson

LEXINGTON -- Evelyn E. "Petie" Wixson, 88, of Johnson Lake, formerly of Grand Island, died Thursday, May 13, 1999, at the Tri-County Hospital in Lexington.

Burial of her ashes will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Grand Island City Cemetery. The Rev. Onamae Waddel will officiate.

She was born icon June 19, 1910, in Grand Island to Hans D. and Lena (Schimmer) Scheel.

Geraldine Cadwell

EL PASO, Texas -- Geraldine "Gerry" Elizabeth Cadwell, 84, formerly of Kansas City and Broken Bow, died Wednesday, June 30, 1999, at the Monte Vista Nursing Home in El Paso, Texas.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow. The Revs. Tom Walters and Charles Gregory will officiate. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association, Cancer Action or the donor's choice.

Miss Cadwell was born icon Aug. 23, 1914, in Wellington, Kan., to John Willis and Elva Verna (Holcomb) Cadwell. In 1915, the family moved to Attica, Kan. She attended the Attica schools through the 12th grade, graduating in May 1932.

In the summer of 1932, the family moved to Broken Bow. The following school year, she took post-graduate courses at Broken Bow High School.

In 1933, Miss Cadwell went to Kansas City to live with family. While there, she taught beginning piano students.

In 1936, Miss Cadwell went to Wichita, Kan., and attended the American Business College. Upon graduation in 1937, she went to work for a bank in Anthony, Kan.

In 1938 she went to work for the Farmer's Home Administration (later known as the Farm Security Administration) in Anthony. As part of her job, she traveled the western half of Kansas, living in Attica and Salina, Kan.

In 1946, she transferred to Manhattan, Kan. Later, she transferred to FSA State Headquarters in Topeka. In 1963, she transferred to the Social Security Administration in Kansas City, Mo. and lived in an apartment complex in Quality Hill.

After 35 years of government services, she retired on June 29, 1973. She remained living at Quality Hill until May 9, 1984, when she bought a townhouse in Kansas City, Kan. where she lived until May 13, 1994, at which time she moved to the Grand Court Retirement Community in Overland Park, Kan. On Dec. 19, 1997, she moved to the Monte Vista Nursing Home in El Paso, Texas.

She was active in her church, enjoyed traveling and dinner theaters. She supported numerous charitable organizations including Dr. Menninger Foundation.

She was an active member of the Professional Secretaries Association for 34 years. She was also involved in the NSA, NARFE, the Dollars and Cents Investment Club and the Lunch Bunch, holding various offices in most.

Survivors include a sister, Helen Mary Christensen of Broken Bow; two brothers, Gaius Cadwell of Corona, Calif. and Joseph Cadwell of El Paso, Texas and 10 nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Bernice Ruth Borens.

Harry Albers

Harry L. Albers, 76, of 111 W. 13th, died Wednesday, July 21, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island. Services are pending with Kleine Funeral Home.

Lawrence Luth

UNION GAP, Wash. -- Lawrence W. Luth, 87, of Union Gap, Wash., died Monday, July 19, 1999, at Parkside Nursing Care Center.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at West Hills Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. at Keith & Keith Funeral Home of Yakima, Wash.

Mr. Luth was born icon May 15, 1912, in Alda to William and Dora (Nissen) Luth.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

On Sept. 28, 1971, he married Linnea H. Miller in Las Vegas, Nev. He was a contractor and carpenter for many years before retiring in 1989.

He enjoyed carpentry and remodeling homes. In his younger days, he loved ballroom dancing and dancing the polka. He was a life member of Platt-Duetsche Corporation in Nebraska, Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. His nicknames included "Shooter" and "Shultz".

Survivors include his wife; children, Tom of Austin, Texas, Jerry and Jody of Lincoln, Paula (Mrs. Clay) Porche of Kansas City, Mo., Jack and Penny (Mrs. Vern) Stumpenhorst of Grand Island, Louise (Mrs. Ross) Sisk of Union Gap, Robert Nystrom of Puyallup, Wash. and Jim Nystrom of Tumwater, Wash.; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; three sisters, Helen Shipman of Lincoln, Elsie Lilienthal of Grand Island and Minnie Bruhn of Wood River; and one brother, Bill Luth of North Bend, Ore.

He was preceded in death by four children, Robert, Donna, Jill and Sherman Nystrom; and one brother, Clarence.

Charles Beyersdorf

Charles E. "Chuck" Beyersdorf, 68, of Grand Island died Monday, July 26, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Kleine Funeral Home. The Rev. Terry Brown will officiate. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Omaha with military rites by the U.S. Army from Fort Riley, Kan.

Memorials are suggested to the St. Francis Cancer Research Center.

Mr. Beyersdorf was born icon on March 29, 1931, at Hales Corner, Milwaukee. He grew up and was educated in Wisconsin. He joined the U.S. Air Force, was stationed at Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha and served in the Korean War and Vietnam era.

He married Sally Ann Hilliker in September 1952 at Oconomowoc.

He married Patricia Norberg on July 16, 1956, at Nebraska City. After serving 20 years with the Air Force, he joined the U.S. Army as a chief warrant officer No. 2. He received the Bronze Star and retired from the Army on Aug. 1, 1971. He and his wife moved to Grand Island in 1987.

He was a very active outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and bowling and played in as many as five bowling leagues at a time.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Charles W. Beyersdorf of Apache Junction, Ariz., John Killion of Austin, Texas, and Robert Beyersdorf of Watertown, Wis.; three daughters, Colleen (Mrs. Alan) Opfer-Bosselman of Grand Island, Lynne (Mrs. Glen) Sutton of Doniphan and Susie Sadowski of Mesa, Ariz.; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his mother, Lucille Beyersdorf of West Salem, Wis.; one brother, Floyd Beyersdorf of Tulsa, Okla.; and one sister, Susan (Mrs. Paul) Reimers of West Salem, Wis.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Yolanda Kucera

Yolanda Raye Kucera, 31, of 404 W. 10th died Monday, July 26, 1999, at the St. Francis Memorial Health Center Skilled Care Unit.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. Envoy Jim Tooley of the Salvation Army will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 7 to 9 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Miss Kucera was born icon on Dec. 10, 1967, in Grand Island to Larry and Betty (Dexter) Kucera. She attended Howard and Dodge elementary schools and graduated from Grand Island Senior High in 1986.

She loved animals and had planned to be a veterinarian until contracting Huntington's disease. She spent 11 years in the nursing home. Her grandmother, Phyllis Korth, cared for her during this time.

Survivors include a sister, Teresa Burton of Grand Island; and her grandmother, Phyllis Korth.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her grandfather, Donald L. Dexter.

Katarino Salinas

Katarino Salinas, 65, of Grand Island died Monday, July 26, 1999, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Omaha.

Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Wanda Steckmyer

Wanda Steckmyer, 78, of Grand Island died Monday, July 26, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center.

Services are pending with Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.

Irene Arnold

ORD -- Irene Arnold, 92, of Ord died Tuesday, July 27, 1999, at the Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.

Mrs. Arnold was cremated. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Ord Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Jim B. Miller will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord City Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Alice Fair

BROKEN BOW -- Alice Fair, 80, of Broken Bow died Monday, July 26, 1999, at Jennie Melham Memorial Medical Center in Broken Bow.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Berean Fundamental Church in Broken Bow. The Rev. Steve Hicks will officiate. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.

Memorials have been established to the Nebraska Boys Ranch and the Cerebral Palsy Fund.
