John Hostler

John E. Hostler, 81, of Grand Island, died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. The Rev. Onamae Waddel will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday with the family receiving friends from 5 to 9 p.m. at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.

Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.

Mr. Hostler was born icon May 18, 1918, to William and Ruth (Cole) Hostler at Doniphan. He grew up at Doniphan and received his education from Dist. 19 in Hall County. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946, during World War II. In 1953 he and other family members moved to a farm west of Grand Island, where he farmed until his death.

He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Platt-Duetsche, and the V.F.W. No. 53 of Grand Island.

Survivors include four sisters, Agnes Hostler, Marie Gartner and Vera Smith, all of Grand Island and Vina Bockerman of Hastings and two brothers, Bernard Hostler of Grand Island and Glenn Hostler of San Antonio, Texas.

Marian Jensen

Marian E. Jensen, 82, of Grand Island died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center.

Services are pending at Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul.

Louie Johnson

Louie N. Johnson, 79, of Golden Towers, died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 1999, at the V.A. Medical Center in Grand Island.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Kleine Funeral Home. The Rev. Richard Karohl will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Thursday with the family receiving friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Further visitation will be from 8 a.m. until service time on Friday.

Memorials are suggested to family's choice.

Mr. Johnson was born icon April 20, 1920, at Broken Bow to James and Loretta (Harbert) Johnson. He moved as a young boy with his family to Grand Island where he received his education. He was active in track and football at Senior High School.

Later he was a coach for the football team at St. Mary's School.

He married Betty Berniece Richardson on March 27, 1942, at Rantoul, Ill. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Italy from Nov. 19, 1941 to Oct. 7, 1945.

He worked as a photographer for Bailey Studio. He got his pilots license and enjoyed flying. He also was the coach of his son's baseball team. The family moved to California in 1952 where he worked as a school photographer. In 1964 they moved to Lake Tahoe and in 1976 they moved to Lincoln where he worked at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln Ag Dept. as a photographer.

His wife died in 1984. In 1995 he moved to Grand Island to be closer to family.

Survivors include two sons, Craig Johnson of Lake Tahoe, Calif. and Brett Johnson of Grand Island; one daughter, Cindy Nutter of Grand Island; four grandchildren; and one brother, Harvey Johnson of Carson City, Nev.

Jack Buscher

HASTINGS -- Jack E. Buscher, 59, of Hastings, died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 1999, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Butler-Volland Chapel in Hastings. The Rev. Harold D. Stromer will officiate. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery at Hastings.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. until service time on Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Mr. Buscher was born icon March 26, 1940, in Adams County to Henry E. and Leona (Harris) Buscher. He graduated from Hastings Senior High School in 1957. He was in the Nebraska National Guard.

He married Peggy A. Doht on Nov. 11, 1965. He was a meat cutter and had worked for W. B. Pack in Blue Hill and Steve's Butcher Shop in Doniphan and the Butcher Shop in Fairfield.

He lived in Adams County all his life.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Tamara Buscher of Hastings; two sons, Mark Buscher of Phillips and Scot Buscher of Hastings; one granddaughter; two sisters, Ruth Buscher of Hastings and Mary Lou Molder of Menasha, Wis.; and two brothers, Lester Buscher of Hastings and Robert Buscher of Silver Lake, Kan.

'Ted' Daily

HASTINGS -- James Theodore "Ted" Daily, 91, of Hastings, formerly of Taylor, died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 1999, at Village Grace at Hastings.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Rhoad Funeral Chapel in Sargent. Burial will be in the Taylor Cemetery with military graveside services.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Florence Golka

ORD -- Florence Cecila Golka, 81, of Ord died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 1999, at the Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Ord. The Rev. Jim Warner will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord Catholic Cemetery at Elyria.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m., with a 7:30 p.m. rosary, Thursday at Ord Memorial Chapel.

Memorials are suggested to the church.

Mrs. Golka was born icon on Jan. 21, 1918, in Garfield County to Adam and Della (Golus) Augustyn. She was educated in a country school in Garfield County.

She married Roman Grudzinski on Feb. 5, 1941, in Elyria. Mr. Grudzinski died in 1960. Mrs. Golka spent most of her life in Valley County, except 1955 to 1975, when she lived and worked in Oregon.

She married Alvin Golka on May 8, 1972, in Oregon. After her retirement in 1975, Mrs. Golka returned to Ord. Mr. Golka died in 1977.

Mrs. Golka loved caring for the elderly. She did a lot of sewing for her family. She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Ord and the Altar Society.

Survivors include one sister, Esther Fish of Ord.

In addition to her two husbands, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Edmund, Raymond, Leonard, Daniel and Bernard; and one sister, Rachel Masin.

George Harvey Jr.

ST. PAUL -- George H. Harvey Jr., 64, of St. Paul, died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 1999, at the Howard County Hospital in St. Paul.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in St. Paul. The Rev. Michael McDermott will officiate. Burial will be in the Soulville Cemetery at Boelus.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the church with a 7 p.m. rosary.

Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.

Jacobsen Funeral Home of St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Harvey was born icon Jan. 8, 1935, at Orchard to George and Adeline (Walton) Harvey Sr. He attended Royal Public Schools, graduating in 1953.

On June 24, 1957 he married Helen Mlnarik at Brunswick. The couple lived in California for three years. They then moved to Central City where he worked at Randy's Betts and then for the Union Pacific Railroad for 23 years. After his retirement, the couple moved to St. Paul in 1992.

He was a member of Sts Peter and Paul Catholic Church of St. Paul.

His hobbies included gardening, leather working, horses and old western movies.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Andrew of Grand Island and Eric of St. Paul; three daughters, Bonnie Harvey and Jolene Killinger, both of St. Paul and Julie (Mrs. Daniel) Burkhardt Sr. of Ravenna; three sisters, Violet Brandt of Creighton, Irene Gary of Norfolk and Olive McKlintok of Heyburn, Idaho; and 10 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Mary Jane, Nina May and Jeanette; and one brother, Sammy.

Bradley Moffett

SHELTON -- Bradley Moffett, 79, of Shelton died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 1999, at BryanLGH Medical Center West in Lincoln.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Apfel Funeral Home in Wood River. The Rev. Barbara Spangler will officiate. Burial will be in the Shelton Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the family.

Mr. Moffett was born icon on May 6, 1920, on a farm north of Gibbon to James C. and Matie E. (Ginther) Moffett. He attended District 18 School in Buffalo County. He worked on the family farm before joining the 8th Air Force and serving in Europe during World War II. He was discharged on Oct. 5, 1945.

He married Theresa "Dot" McCulla on April 2, 1946, at Smith Center, Kan. They lived in Shelton, where he did heavy equipment work. He then worked for Eaton's in Kearney for 10 years, retiring in 1985.

He was a member of American Legion Post 297 in Shelton.

He enjoyed playing ball and cards, hunting, fishing and working in his garden.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Terry and Mick, both of Shelton, and Ken of Grand Island; one daughter, Linda Belleau of Greeley, Colo.; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three brothers, Don of Shelton, Maurice "Jack" of Kenesaw and Leonard of San Diego; and four sisters, Becky Howard of Sterling, Colo., Dottie Allen of San Diego and Susie and Leone Moffett, both of Kearney.

He was preceded in death by four brothers and seven sisters.

Frieda Senff

AURORA -- Frieda Marie Senff, 83, a longtime Aurora resident and nurse for Dr. J.M. Woodard, died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 1999, at Harvard Rest Haven.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Zion Lutheran Church, northeast of Hampton. The Rev. Loren Cooper will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Higby Mortuary in Aurora.

Miss Senff was born icon on Aug. 21, 1916, in rural York County to Charles and Martha Marie (Liedtke) Senff. She grew up on the family farm near Hampton and attended Zion Lutheran School. She and her family moved in 1935 to Aurora, where she worked for a short time as a housekeeper for several families.

She then worked as a nurse for Dr. Woodard until his retirement. When Dr. Woodard entered a nursing home, Miss Senff took charge of keeping up the Woodard family home.

In later years, she loved to do yard work and especially loved her flowers. She had also enjoyed taking and developing pictures of her family.

Survivors include one nephew, Leonard DaMoude of Hordville; and two nieces, Bonnie (Mrs. Roger) Kruse and Nancy (Mrs. Chuck) Keasling, both of Aurora.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Alice DaMoude.
