Evelyn Bixenmann
OMAHA -- Evelyn L. Bixenmann, 70, of Omaha, formerly of Grand Island, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 1999, in Omaha.
Services are pending with Kleine Funeral Home in Grand Island.
Wesley Leymaster
LINCOLN -- Wesley Leymaster, 82, of Lincoln, formerly of Broken Bow, died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 1999, at the Haven Manor in Lincoln.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow. The Rev. Jim Stark will officiate. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary.
'Pete' Mankin
HARVARD -- Wilbur "Pete" Raymond Roy Mankin, 78, of Harvard died Thursday, Sept. 30, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Giltner. The Revs. Dwight DeLaet and Paul Nauman will officiate. Burial will be in the Giltner Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Higby Mortuary.
Mr. Mankin was born
on Jan. 3, 1921, at Trumbull to Clinton and Trella (Phelps) Mankin. He graduated from Trumbull High School in 1938. He farmed and worked for the railroad before entering the Navy in 1942. He served as an electrician mate second class on the destroyer escort USS Stewart and the aircraft carrier USS Wasp. He was discharged in 1946 and received a complimentary letter from aircraft carrier Capt. C.W. Switzer for service well performed.
After returning home, he followed the wheat harvest with two combines during the summer and worked as a firefighter on the railroad on the CB&Q Alliance division during the fall and winter.
He married Mollie Michel Williams on April 4, 1951, at Bellevue. They lived south of Giltner, where he farmed. He served on the Giltner school board. After his retirement from farming, he enjoyed his hobbies, including horses, giving brides and grooms rides and driving the horses in many parades. He enjoyed composing poetry and verses.
He was a member of the Giltner United Methodist Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Harvard.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Gary Williams of Aurora; one daughter, Sharon (Mrs. Gilbert) Schmidt of Norman, Okla.; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Arlene Pfieffer of Homewood, Ala., Izone Best of Yorktown, Va., and Rowena Mannschreck of Lewiston, Idaho; and one brother, Blake Mankin of Hastings.
He was preceded in death by three brothers.
Leanne Albrecht
TRIPP, S.D. -- Leanne Georgia Albrecht, 40, of Tripp, S.D., died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 1999, at the Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Evergreen Cemetery in Loup City.
Higgins Funeral Home of Loup City is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Albrecht was born
on Nov. 29, 1958, to the Rev. Leon and Emma (Heuser) Zimmerman of Loup City. She was educated in Wisconsin, Canada and Nebraska.
She married Jerry Albrecht on Sept. 16, 1998, at Loup City. She had lived in the Tripp, S.D., area for five years.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Joshua Kuszak of Tripp; her parents, of Loup City; three sisters, Linda Zimmerman and LaRae (Mrs. Jerry) Oswald, both of Grand Island, and Linett (Mrs. Roger) Obermiller of Loup City.
She was preceded in death by a son, Jeremy Kuszak.
Sophie Blase
OLATHE, Kan. -- Sophie C. Blase, 102, of Olathe, Kan., died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 1999, at Lakeview Village Nursing Home in Lenexa, Kan.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Olathe. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Central City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at W.L. Frye and Son Funeral Home in Olathe.
Solt Funeral Home in Central City is in charge of local arrangements.
Mrs. Blase was born
on Sept. 1, 1897, in York to George and Charlotte Reeb.
She married Louis Blase of Hordville on Dec. 6, 1916. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Dec. 6, 1966. She moved to Olathe in 1973 to be near her son. She was a seamstress and a homemaker.
Survivors include one daughter, Bernice Porter of Sioux City, Iowa; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Her husband died in May 1973. She also was preceded in death by two sons, Virgil Blase and an infant son; two brothers, Henry Reeb and Harold Reeb; and three sisters, Emma Carlson, Helen Kerker and Lillie Garling.
Erma Capellen
RAVENNA -- Erma B. Capellen, 83, died Friday, July 9, 1999, at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Ravenna.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Rassmussen Mortuary in Ravenna. The Rev. Mark Cadenbach will officiate.
Visitation is from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to the Ravenna emergency unit.
Mrs. Capellen was born
July 29, 1915, in the Hazard area to Andrew and Rosa Keldsen. She attended Sweetwater school.
She married Stanton Capellen on March 19, 1935. The couple lived in the Hazard area. In 1936, they moved to the Pavillion, Wyo. area, where they homesteaded 120 acres. They built a home and made improvements on their property. In 1945, they moved back to the Hazard area to be near family and friends.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, LaVonne Feller and Wanda (Mrs. Lyle) Otte, both of Hazard; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one brother, Alvin Keldsen of Kinnear, Wyo.
She was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.
Esther Miller
ST. PAUL -- Esther M. Miller, 95, of St. Paul died Friday, July 9, 1999, at Heritage Living Center in St. Paul.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Dannebrog. The Rev. Robert Carlson will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Ridge Cemetery in Dannebrog.
There will be no visitation.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.

Mrs. Miller was born
Sept. 6, 1903, in Red Oak, Iowa, to Frank and Ruth (Heflin) Thompson. When she was an infant, her mother died and she was raised by her father's sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. L. R. Gilmore, on a farm south of Red Oak.
She attended country school near Coburg, Iowa, and graduated from Red Oak High School in 1917. She received her bachelor's degree from the University of Nebraska and later her master of arts degree at Greeley, Colo.
Following her education she taught at Axtell, Friend, Fremont and Grand Island. She later taught in Laramie, Wyo., and St. Helens, Ore.
She enjoyed traveling and other new experiences while teaching.
She married Earl Miller on June 12, 1949, in Dannebrog. The couple lived their entire married life in Dannebrog and he farmed outside of town. He died in December 1987.
She continued to live in Dannebrog until 1996, when she entered the Heritage Living Center in St. Paul.
She was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Dannebrog, Phi Beta Kappa Society, and Business and Professional Club in Grand Island.
Survivors include nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by five brothers, Harry, Floyd, Leonard, Charles, and Victor; and one sister, Clara Sample.
Norma Peterson
GENOA -- Norma Peterson, 88, of Genoa died Saturday, July 10, 1999, at the Genoa Community Hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Augustana Lutheran Church in Genoa. The Rev. William Jacobson will officiate. Burial will be in the Valley View Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday at Anson Funeral Home.
Jerry Carpenter
TOPEKA, Kan. -- Jerry A. Carpenter, 53, of Topeka, Kan., formerly of Gering, died Thursday, July 8, 1999, at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center of Topeka, Kan.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Gollaher Chapel at Trinity United Methodist Church in Grand Island. The Rev. Jim Keyser will officiate. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Grand Island.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Monday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the Midland Hospice of Topeka or the American Cancer Society.
Mr. Carpenter was born
June 13, 1946, in Hastings to Glenn and Fara (Barta) Carpenter. He grew up and attended school in Hastings. He graduated from Hastings High School in 1964. After his graduation he began working for Dutton-Lainson.
He married Sharon Tindall on Sept. 2, 1967, in Hastings. The couple lived in Hastings and he worked in sales at Dutton-Lainson.
The couple later moved to Gering, where he was employed by Blish-Mize Co. as part of their sales management team. In 1990, the couple moved to Topeka, Kan., and he continued to work for Blish-Mize Co. and was employed there at the time of his death.
He was a member of the Methodist faith, was an avid golfer and was very giving to family and friends.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Todd of Grand Island; a daughter, Shelley Carpenter of Topeka; his mother, Flora Carpenter of Hastings; a twin sister, Joyce Carpenter of Hastings; and brother Bob of Hastings.
He was preceded in death by his father.
