Carolyn Ann Rothwell

MONUMENT, Colo. -- Carolyn Ann Rothwell, 58, of Monument, Colo., died unexpectedly Monday, Oct. 4, 1999, at her home.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the United Church of Christ in Hyannis. Burial will be in the Hyannis Cemetery.

Mrs. Rothwell was born icon on Sept. 13, 1941, in Wisner to Conrad and Alida Leone (Burkhead) Budde. She graduated from Grand Island Senior High School in 1959. She received her bachelor of arts degree from Hastings College in 1963 and later earned a master's degree from Denver University.

She married George Gene Rothwell on Jan. 25, 1964, in Grand Island. They first lived in Denver, later moving to Durango, Colo., where they owned and operated a business. After selling the business, they relocated to the Los Angeles area. The couple moved to Monument, Colo., following her husband's retirement from an airline company.

For many years she was employed as a computer programmer/system analyst for major oil companies in Denver and Los Angeles.

Mrs. Rothwell enjoyed genealogy and organizing family activities. She was an active member in the Daughters of the American Revolution and various civic organizations. She and her husband traveled extensively, visiting many foreign countries.

Survivors include her husband and one brother, Gene Budde of Cairo.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

W. Clay Dixon

W. Clay Dixon, 89, of Grand Island died Saturday, Oct. 9, 1999 at the St. Francis medical center.

Services are pending with Livingston-Sondermann funeral home.

Evelyn Hill-Hargens

Evelyn M. Hill-Hargens, 81, of Grand Island died Sunday, Oct. 10, 1999, at Tiffany Square Care Center.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Pauls Lutheran Church. The Rev. Joel Schroeder will officiate.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Kleine Funeral Home Chapel.

Warren Keller

Warren V. Keller, 99, of Grand Island died Saturday, Oct. 9, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Grand Island. The Rev. John Douglas Russell will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.

Memorials are suggested to St. Pauls Lutheran Church.

Mr. Keller was born icon Jan. 29, 1900, at Mason City to Harvey and Rose (Jinks) Keller. He was educated in Mason City.

He married Marie W. Kuehner on Dec. 23, 1926, in Grand Island. The couple made their home in Grand Island, and Mr. Keller worked for the City of Grand Island's water department servicing meters. He later worked in the electrical department.

He retired in 1965, and from 1969 to 1984 he was the parking lot attendant for Commercial National Bank. Mrs. Keller died in 1979.

Mr. Keller was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church and the Eagles since 1939.

Survivors include a daughter, Rosemarie (Mrs. Jim) Skaine of Cedar Falls, Iowa; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, William H.; a granddaughter; five sisters; and one brother.

Clifford Quick

Clifford D. Quick, 76, of Grand Island died Saturday, Oct. 9, 1999, at the Nebraska Veteran's Home in Grand Island.

Private family services will be at a later date. Mr. Quick was cremated. Kleine Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Quick was born icon Sept. 15, 1923, at Centerville, Mo. to Alonzo and Willie (Henderson) Quick. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from March 5, 1943, to Jan. 31, 1946.

His career was in photography sales.

Survivors include two sons, Tracy Quick of Omaha and Chris Quick of Lincoln; one grandson; and two daughters, Judy and Terri.

Colleen Smith

Colleen M. Smith, 74, of Grand Island died Thursday, Oct. 7, 1999, at Fort Collins, Colo.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Palmer Funeral Home in Palmer. The Rev. Rob Pearson will officiate. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Lena Jablonski

ORD -- Lena Mae Jablonski, 91, of Ord died Friday, Oct. 8, 1999, at the Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Ord. The Rev. Jim Warner will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, with a rosary at 7:30 p.m. at the Ord Memorial Chapel.

Mrs. Jablonski was born icon Oct. 22, 1907, near Weeping Water to Charles L. and Amanda E. (McDaniel) Parker. She attended rural schools and graduated from Burwell High School in 1925.

She married Frank Martin Jablonski on May 21, 1928. They lived on a farm northeast of Elyria for two years before moving to Omaha. The family then spent seven years in Wyoming before returning to Omaha in 1942.

They returned to their farm near Elyria in 1949, and Mr. Jablonski died March 18, 1963. Mrs. Jablonski continued to live on the farm until May 1994, when she moved to Valley County Nursing Home.

She enjoyed her garden and animals that she cared for.

She was a member of St. Mary's Church in Elyria and Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Ord.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary Ann (Mrs. Rollin) Struckman of Burwell and Phyllis (Mrs. Ronald) Romans of Yutan; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three step great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Viola Schwerdtfeger, Stella Zulkoski, Clora Schafer and Mary Ehmke; and one brother, Herman Parker.

Mary Morgan

ALBION -- Mary Jane Morgan, 75, of Albion died Sunday, Oct. 10, 1999, at the Boone County Health Center in Albion.

Services are pending.

John Potrzeba

ORD -- John E. Potrzeba, 91, of Ord died Saturday, Oct. 9, 1999, at the Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Ord. Burial will be in the Ord Catholic Cemetery. The Rev. Jim Warner will officiate.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8:30 p.m., with a rosary at 7:30 p.m. at the Ord Memorial Chapel.

Memorials are suggested to St. Mary's School or the donor's choice.

Mr. Potrzeba was born icon June 20, 1908, in the Michigan Township of Valley County to Mike and Anna (Bower) Potrzeba. He grew up on the family farm, and graduated from Fairplay Country School. He later graduated from the St. Paul Business College.

He married Helen Micek on April 18, 1934, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Elyria. They farmed for 60 years, then retired and moved to Ord in 1995.

Mr. Potrzeba was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church; served on the Michigan Township and Fairplay school boards; was director of the Ord Coop Oil and the Farmers Home Administration boards; and a member of the Twin Loups Reclamation and Irrigation District boards for more than 30 years.

His farm received the first irrigation water from the Calamus Dam on June 24, 1987.

Survivors include his second wife, Mercedes of Elyria; a son, Vernon Potrzeba; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a sister, Victoria Secora of Omaha; and a brother, Anton Potrzeba of Gibbon.

He was preceded in death by a son, Richard; a grandson; two brothers, Henry and Edward Potrzeba; and two sisters, Helen Augustyn and Mary Iwanksi.

Alice Smith

ORD -- Alice Smith, 93, of Ord died Sunday, Oct. 10, 1999, at the Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.

Services are pending. The Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Kalso Amos

Kalso Floyd Amos, 80, of Grand Island, formerly of Comstock, died Monday, Oct. 11, 1999, at the Grand Island Veterans Home.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Rhoad Funeral Chapel in Sargent. The Rev. Mark Crist will officiate. Burial will be in the Dry Valley Cemetery south of Sargent with military services.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m., with the family receiving friends and family from 5:30 to 8 p.m., Wednesday at the chapel.

Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.

Evelyn Hill-Hargens

Evelyn M. Hill-Hargens, 81, of Grand Island died Sunday, Oct. 10, 1999, at Tiffany Square Care Center.

Mrs. Hill-Hargens was born icon Jan. 27, 1918, on the Stoltenberg farm south of Grand Island. Her father died when she was two years old and her mother raised her on the Wilhelmi farm northwest of Grand Island and she received her education at District 18 in Hall County.

As a young woman she worked for the Louie Scheel family doing housework and caring for two small children. Later she worked for the Betts Nursing Home and the Model Laundry in Grand Island.

She married James M. Hill on Sept. 25, 1938, in Grand Island. They were partners in farming and business throughout their marriage. They operated a gas station at Fourth and Elm St., and they farmed northwest of Grand Island and then East of Cairo.

In 1951 they purchased a home at Fifth and Eddy and this location was the beginning of the Hills Market and later the Hills Exchange Store where they sold used furniture and operated a pawn shop.

In 1976 they sold the business and retired. Mr. Hill died on April 6, 1982.

On Feb. 5, 1988, she married Delbert Hargens in Grand Island. Mr. Hargens died on Aug. 28, 1994.

She later helped her son and family working in sales at the current Hills Furniture Store until her 80th birthday.

She was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church and the Platt-Duetsche Ladies Society.

She enjoyed attending horse races at all the Nebraska tracks. She also attended many high school sporting events. She enjoyed playing pitch and sheeps head.

Survivors include one son, Thomas Hill of Grand Island; two stepdaughters, Beverly Harders of Wood River and Donna Dankert of Grand Island; one stepson, Tim Hargens of Grand Island; one granddaughter; six stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and four step great-grandchildren.

In addition to her two husbands she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Betty Jean Hill and a brother, Elmer Stoltenberg.
