SHELTON -- Edna M. Arnold, 90, of Shelton died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 1999, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

Phil Beck
CENTRAL CITY -- Phil Beck of Central City died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 1999, at his home.
Services are pending with Solt Funeral Home in Central City.
'Rudy' Berggren
ST. PAUL -- Rudolph "Rudy" S. Berggren, 77, of St. Paul, died Monday, Oct. 25, 1999, at his farm home north of St. Paul.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church in Wolbach. The Rev. Ken West will officiate. Burial will be in the Fairdale Sunrise Cemetery north of St. Paul.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Jacobsen Funeral home in St. Paul.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Berggren was born
Jan. 18, 1922, on the family farm in the Fairdale area north of St. Paul to Julias and Josephine (Jacobsen) Berggren. He grew up on the family farm and first attended District 56 School at Fairdale. He later attended District 43 School through the tenth grade. He graduated from St. Paul High School in 1939.
He started farming with his family in the Fairdale area.
He married Lois Cunningham on Nov. 17, 1946, at St. Paul. The couple lived in the Fairdale area in various locations where they farmed. They moved to the original Berggren farm where he was born
in 1951. They farmed the family farm until ill health forced his retirement in 1997.
During the time he was farming he also worked construction. He first worked for the Bushman Construction Co. Later he worked for Spike Smith in land leveling construction and Lavern Jacobsen and Ernie Kipp in land leveling. He was an AgriPro corn seed dealer for 50 years.
He was a 50-year member of the past Fairdale Methodist Church. In 1987 he became a member of the Methodist Church at Wolbach. He served in various offices in both churches.
He was a lifetime member of the Nebraska Farmers Union and past director of St. Paul Farmers Union Oil Association, where he was instrumental in getting a new building built in St. Paul. Mr. Berggren was a 24-year director of the Howard-Greeley Public Power District and a director of the Nysted Insurance Co. He also was active in 4-H and had been a leader for many years.
His enjoyed farming.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Donald of St. Paul and Terry of Farwell; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Lester, Arnold, Cecil and Kenneth.
Charles Harvey
BROKEN BOW -- Charles Ernest Harvey, 91, of Broken Bow, died Monday, Oct. 25, 1999, at his home in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow. The Rev. Fred Roedger will officiate. Burial will be at St. Paul's Episcopal Church Columbarium in Lakewood, Colo.
Mr. Harvey was born
March 16, 1908, in Mansfield, England to Talbot Henry and Alice (Goodacre) Harvey. He attended schools in England and the United States.
He married Ellen Elizabeth Morrill on Nov. 15, 1932, at Fargo, N.D. Mr. Harvey was a Regional Credit Manager for Standard Oil for 30 years, living in Fargo, Kansas City and Denver.
Upon retirement, they moved to Lakewood, Colo. Later they moved to Broken Bow to be close to their daughter. Mrs. Harvey died on Feb. 24, 1991.
Mr. Harvey had been a Boy Scout Master and enjoyed painting.
Survivors include one son, Robert C. Harvey of Champaigne, Ill.; one daughter, Peggy Hirsch of Broken Bow and three granddaughters.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
DeForest Jones
PRIMROSE -- DeForest Jones, 79, of Primrose died unexpectedly Tuesday, Oct. 26, 1999, at the Boone County Health Center in Albion.
Services are pending with Levander Funeral Home in Albion.
Wesley Mues
KEARNEY -- Wesley "Wes" Mues, 51, of Kearney, died Monday night at St. Francis Medical Center as the result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident south of Grand Island.
Services are pending with Horner-Lieske-Horner Funeral Home of Kearney.
John Pierce
GIBBON -- V.J. "John" Pierce, 81, of Gibbon died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 1999, at the Red Lion Inn in Elko, Nev.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Godberson Mortuary in Gibbon. The Rev. Barbara Spangler will officiate. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Monday in Fairbury Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary.
Mary Scott
BURWELL -- Mary Scott, 100, of Burwell died Monday, Oct. 25, 1999, at the Valley County Hospital in Ord.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Eberle-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell. The Rev. Marty Robbins will officiate. Burial will be in Cottonwood Cemetery in Burwell.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Burwell Ambulance Supply Fund.
Juliann Stevens
ALBION -- Juliann Clara Stevens, 61, of Albion was found dead on Sunday, Oct. 24, 1999, at her home.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Edward's Catholic Church in St. Edward. The Rev. Frank Baumert will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., with a 7:30 p.m. rosary, Wednesday at Miller-Levander Funeral Home in St. Edward. The Rev. Edward Gill will officiate. Visitation will continue from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Stevens was born
on Nov. 12, 1937, at rural Platte Center to William and Esther (Arlt) Jaixen. She was educated at Boone County District 59 School near St. Edward and graduated from St. Edward High School.
She married Marvin L. Stevens on Dec. 27, 1955, at St. Edward's Catholic Church in St. Edward. They lived in St. Edward for many years. Mrs. Stevens worked as a secretary for Loup Power District in St. Edward for several years. She later moved to Albion.
Survivors include two sons, Randall of Troy, Mich., and Gregory of Eagle; one daughter, Lorraine Stevens of St. Edward; eight grandchildren; two brothers, Clifford Jaixen of Columbus and Cletus Werner of St. Edward; and two sisters, Wilma (Mrs. Jack) Reitz of San Pedro, Calif., and Carolee Werner of Torrance, Calif.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, Jeffery; her parents; her stepfather, Pete Werner; and an infant twin brother and sister.
Daniel Virts
LINCOLN -- Daniel Virts, 52, of Lincoln died Saturday, Oct. 23, 1999, at his home.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Berean Church in Lincoln.
Mr. Virts was born
on April 28, 1947, in Minot, N.D., to Donald and Ethel (Bosserman) Virts. He graduated from Litchfield High School in 1966 and moved to Lincoln with his family in 1971.
He attended Prairie Valley Institute in Three Hills, Alberta, Canada, for two years. He graduated from Southeast Community College in Milford with an associate's degree in computer programming.
He retired after becoming blind 11 years ago.
Survivors include his mother, of Lincoln; four sisters, Virginia (Mrs. Harold) Nunnenkamp of Aurora, Ruth (Mrs. Bob) Westwood of Moab, Utah, and Esther (Mrs. Steven) Teele and Pris (Mrs. Dwight) Johnson, both of Lincoln; and five brothers, Paul of Atlanta, David of Lebanon, Tenn., Joel of Pretty Prairie, Kan., and John and Don, both of Lincoln.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Richard Archer
BREESE, Ill. -- Richard "Dick" H. Archer, 70, of Breese, died Sunday, Oct. 24, 1999, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Breese.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Dominic Church in Breese. The Rev. Patrick Peter will officiate. Burial will be in St. Dominic-St. Augustine Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8 to 10:45 a.m. Wednesday at Moss Funeral Home in Breese.
Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.
Mr. Archer was born
Feb. 10, 1929, in Litchfield to Glenn and Loraine (Bernth) Archer.
He married Dorothy Fenton on March 13, 1952, in Grand Island.
He was a member of St. Dominic Church in Breese and Teamsters Local 600 of St. Louis.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Bruce of Beckemeyer, Ill. and Stephen of Indian Rocks Beach, Fla.; two daughters, Susan (Ms. Gary) Clark of Bartelso, Ill. and Laurie (Mrs. David) Whipple of Breese; two brothers, Larry and Ron of Grand Island; four sisters, Bette Evans of Dannebrog, Peggy (Mrs. Glen) Bowers of Elwood and Virginia (Mrs. Jack) Zlomke and Katherine Hanson, both of Grand Island; six grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Kenneth, Jack, Jim and Gary.
Felix Golus
WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Felix P. Golus, 80, of Wichita Falls, Texas, died Oct. 15, 1999, in a Wichita Falls hospital.
Services were on Oct. 19 at the First Baptist Church in Wichita Falls. Chaplain E.V. Johnson and the Rev. Robert Jeffress officiated. Burial was in Crestview Memorial Park.
Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the Hospice of Wichita Falls.
Mr. Golus was born
on Nov. 20, 1918, in Taarnov. He served in the Army during World War II.
He married Ada Robertson Lucas on March 23, 1958, in Wichita Falls. He worked for Guy's Floors before becoming a self-employed Formica mechanic. He retired from that position in 1984. He was involved in the bus ministry at the First Baptist Church for 29 years. He moved to Wichita Falls from Nebraska in 1956.
He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Association.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Richard A. Lucas of Abilene, Texas, and Jimmy Sr. of Wichita Falls; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Jerome of Denver; and two sisters, Dorothy Levinson of Grand Island and Evelyn Kalkowski of Auburn, Calif.
