GENEVA -- Donald J. Elznic Sr., 72, of Geneva died Thursday, July 27, 2000, in Geneva.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Farmer and Son Funeral Home in Geneva. The Rev. Kim Dunker will officiate. Graveside services will be held at Geneva Public Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at noon Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Daniel Poppen

LINCOLN -- Daniel Edward Poppen, 59, of Lincoln died Saturday, July 29, 2000.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Messiah Lutheran Church in Lincoln. The Rev. Michael Neidow will officiate. Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

No visitation will take place, as Mr. Poppen will be cremated.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Everne Darnall

Everne G. Darnall, 81, of Grand Island died Wednesday, July 26, 2000, at St. Francis Memorial Health Center.

Services are pending at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.

Dorothy Stines

Dorothy Stines, 78, of Grand Island died Wednesday, July 26, 2000, at BryanLGH Medical Center East in Lincoln.

Services are pending with Kleine Funeral Home.

Victoria Conner

ORD -- Victoria Conner, 88, of Ord died Wednesday, July 26, 2000, at Tiffany Square Care Center in Grand Island.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Ord. The Rev. James Murphy will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., with a rosary at 7 p.m., Friday at Ord Memorial Chapel.

Mae Scranton

CENTRAL CITY -- Mae L. Scranton, 93, of Central City, formerly of St. Paul, died Tuesday, July 25, 2000, at the Integrated Health Services Nursing Home in Central City.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Mountain Standard Time Saturday at the Potter Cemetery in Potter. The Rev. Mary Frohs will officiate. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul.

Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.

Mrs. Scranton was born icon on May 25, 1907, at Lindsay to Andrew and Winnie (Swanson) Nelson. She graduated from St. Edward High School. Mrs. Scranton attended the Kearney State Teachers College summer session in 1925. She eventually graduated from the college and obtained her teaching certificate.

She taught rural school for several years in Boone and Buffalo counties.

She married Ray Scranton on Dec. 31, 1932, in Miller. The couple lived in Miller. In 1941, they moved to Potter, where Mrs. Scranton taught for nine years. They later moved to Sidney, where she taught for 12 years.

Mr. Scranton died in 1963. In 1965, Mrs. Scranton moved to Fullerton, where she was a teacher for seven years. She retired in 1972 and moved to St. Paul. She later entered the Integrated Health Services Nursing Homes in Palmer and Central City.

She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church of St. Paul and a past member and elder of the First United Presbyterian Church of Sidney. She was also a longtime member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, the Nebraska Association of Retired Teachers and the AART for retired teachers. She was a former member of Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 310 of Sidney.

Survivors include two grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a sister, Audrey Lipska of LaMesa, Calif.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Peggy Jane Moon; a brother, Glenn Nelson; and four sisters, Hazel McCalsin, Margaret Williams, Violet Peterson and Lorraine Moench.

Margie Dorf

WILBER -- Margie G. Dorf, 90, of Wilber, formerly of Albion, died Tuesday, July 25, 2000, at the Wilber Care Center.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Albion. The Rev. Terry Otto will officiate. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Albion.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Levander Funeral Home in Albion.

Evelyn Ruhter

JUNIATA -- Evelyn E. Ruhter, 66, of Juniata died Tuesday, July 25, 2000, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Christ Lutheran Church at rural Juniata. The Rev. Greg Volzke will officiate. Burial will be in Concordia Cemetery at rural Juniata.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home in Hastings. Further visitation will be one hour before service time Saturday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to the Lutheran Women's Missionary League or Christ Lutheran School at Juniata.

Mrs. Ruhter was born icon on April 27, 1934, in rural Doniphan to Lavern and Ada (Perkey) Karr. She attended District 11 School and graduated from Doniphan High School in 1952.

She married Milton E. Ruhter on April 5, 1953. She was a farm wife and homemaker.

She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Christ Lutheran Ladies Guild and the Lutheran Women's Missionary League, which she served in offices at the local, zone and district levels.

She was a volunteer at Healthy Beginnings, Spouse Abuse Center and Crossroads, all in Hastings.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Marty of Dubuque, Iowa, and Bryan of Omaha; one daughter, Marsha (Mrs. Andy) Trosper of Bloomingdale, Ill.; four grandchildren; and one sister, Gladys (Mrs. Keith) Rolls of Grand Island.

Floyd Evers

MANHATTAN, Kan. -- Floyd Henry Evers, 73, of Manhattan, Kan., died Tuesday, July 25, 2000, at his home.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel in Manhattan. The Rev. Joseph Jones will officiate. Private family inurnment services will be at Sunrise Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the Riley County, Kan., Seniors Service Center.

Mr. Evers was born icon on Oct. 19, 1926, in Topeka, Kan., to Henry and Myrtle (Wood) Evers and had lived in Manhattan for more than 60 years.

He married Mary M. Lewis on Oct. 8, 1944. Mr. Evers was an executive with Bird Music Co. for more than 40 years.

He was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church and the Elks Lodge.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Patricia "Patty" Burnett of Desoto, Kan., and Rosemary "Rosie" Murphy of Manhattan; one son, Ken of Manhattan; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Anna Pufohl and Jean Sorber, both of Topeka; and one brother, Fred Evers of Topeka.

He was preceded in death by one son, Larry.

Edna Semm

Edna M. Semm, 79, of Grand Island died Sunday, July 23, 2000, at Hamilton Manor in Aurora.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Pauls Lutheran Church with the Rev. Joel Schroeder officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at All Faiths Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Mary Walker

Mary E. Walker, 85, of the Grand Island Veterans Home died Saturday, July 22, 2000, at the veterans home.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the All Faiths Chapel at the veterans home. The Rev. Onamae Waddel will officiate. Burial will be in Burkett Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the veterans home.

Memorials are suggested to the veterans home.

Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Walker was born icon on July 23, 1914, at Bradshaw to William and Susan Rena (Collingham) Zanzig. She grew up and was educated at Bradshaw.

She married Tom "Red" Walker. She moved to the Grand Island Veterans Home in 1976.

She enjoyed dancing, sewing and putting jigsaw puzzles together.

Survivors include two nieces, two nephews and a special friend, Robert Manfull.

She was preceded in death by her husband, four sisters and one brother.

Alice Greenwalt

ST. PAUL -- Alice M. Greenwalt, 90, of St. Paul died Monday, July 24, 2000, at the Howard County Community Hospital in St. Paul.

Services are pending with Peters Funeral Home in St. Paul.

Carson Rosenfeld

KEARNEY -- Carson Rosenfeld, 81, of Kearney died Saturday, July 22, 2000, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Grand Island.

Private military graveside services will be at Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell. Rasmussen Mortuary in Ravenna is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Rosenfeld was born icon on July 28, 1918, in Rockaway Beach, N.Y., to Charles and Mae Rosenfeld.

He married Lucille Slabonsky on Dec. 6, 1942, in Pelham, N.Y.

He was a retired leasing company executive with GMAC and a retired major in the U.S. Air Force.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Jo Machinist of New York and Nina Swanson of Kearney; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister.
