Richard DeBacker

Richard L. DeBacker, 75, of Grand Island, died Friday, June 23, 2000, at his home following an illness.

Services are pending with Kleine Funeral Home.

Arnold Zlomke

Arnold Eugene Zlomke, 89, of Grand Island, died Thursday, June 22, 2000, at Wedgewood Care Center in Grand Island.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Gollaher Chapel in Trinity United Methodist Church. The Rev. Patrick Grindol will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the All Faiths Funeral Home at 2929 S. Locust with the family receiving friends from 5 to 8 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to Trinity United Methodist Church or to the donors choice.

Mr. Zlomke was born icon March 4, 1911, at Central City to Otto Ferdinand and Anna Helena (Baumiester) Zlomke. He grew up and attended school in Grand Island, graduating from Grand Island Senior High in 1930. He retired in 1977.

He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Survivors include his wife, Eve; two sons, Jim of Columbus and John of Grand Island; one daughter, Judy (Mrs. Hugh) Miner of Grand Island; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by five brothers and five sisters.

Carl Davison

PALMER -- Carl Davison Jr., 76, of Palmer, died Friday, June 23, 2000, at BryanLGH East in Lincoln.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Palmer Church of Christ with the Rev. Jerry Quandt officiating. Burial will be in the Palmer Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Palmer Funeral Home in Palmer.

John Gard

ORD -- John A. Gard, 83, of Ord, died Friday, June 23, 2000, at the Grand Island Veterans Home.

Services are pending at the Ord Memorial Chapel.

James Stauss

ST. PAUL -- James A. Stauss, 62, of St. Paul, died Thursday, June 22, 2000, at St. Francis Skilled Care Center.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Grand Island. The Rev. Mike McDermott will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Kleine Funeral Home Chapel with a wake service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Bessie Christen

PAPILLION -- Bessie Violet Christen, 62, of Papillion, died Thursday, June 22, 2000, at her home in Papillion.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Burwell.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Eberle-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell.

Kahler-Dolce Mortuary of Papillion is in charge of arrangements.

She was born icon June 22, 1938, at home in Halsey to Cornelius Lee and Mary Elizabeth (Wyatt) Boren.

She graduated from Halsey High School in 1955 and attended Kearney College for two years of teacher's training. During her lifetime she served as a teacher, newspaper editor, Mid-Nebraska caregiver for social services and was a longtime caregiver to Joann VanCleve.

Survivors include three daughters, Mary Jo (Mrs. Larry) Burson of Gretna, Julie (Mrs. David) Studnicka of Clay Center and Susie Gronewold of Firth; four sons, Donnie Christen of Burwell, Jeff Christen of Lynnwood, Wash., Blaine Christen of Beatrice and Brian Christen of Miriam, Kan.; 11 grandchildren; two sisters, MaryLea Standlea of St. Paul and Virginia Sullivan of Mullen; and one brother, Jess Boren of Federal Way, Wash.

She was preceded in death by siblings, Minnie, Laurella, Bob and Gene.

Robert Dahlberg

LINCOLN, Calif. -- Robert E. Dahlberg Sr., 81, of Lincoln, Calif., formerly of Polk, died at his home Wednesday, June 21, 2000.

Mr. Dahlberg was cremated and private services will be conducted. Solt Funeral Home of Polk is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Dahlberg was born icon Aug. 15, 1918, in Greeley, Colo. He graduated from Polk High School. Mr. Dahlberg served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was employed at A & K Steel as an ironworker for many years. He retired in 1970.

Survivors include two sons, Robert E. of Georgia and Roger C. of Tennessee; one daughter, Cheryl Herron of Lincoln, Calif.; two brothers, Caleb of Colorado and John of California; one sister, Marie Keevey of Washington; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Francis Dahlberg.

Dennis Tucker

GREENBRIER, Ark. -- Dennis Loyd Tucker, 75, of Greenbrier, Ark., died Sunday, June 18, 2000, in Grant, N.M. due to injuries from an auto accident.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Conway Chapel in Conway, Ark. Burial will be in the Old Texas Cemetery at Quitman, Ark.

Mr. Tucker was born icon Jan. 20, 1925, to I.B. and Ruthe (Skinner) Tucker, in Greenbrier, Ark.

He was a graduate of Greenbrier High School and received a Masters Degree from the University of Arkansas, taught Agriculture at Plum Bayou and Wrightsville, Ark. and recently was employed as a bus driver for Arkansas Delivery Service.

He married Lyla Lyndell Presley. Mrs. Tucker preceded him in death.

He was retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of World War II.

He loved to fish and garden.

Survivors include two sons, Dennis of Greenbrier and Don of Russellville, Ark.; one brother, Glenden of Grand Island; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Nellie Gould

Nellie Gould, 92, of Grand Island died Tuesday, May 2, 2000, at her home.

Burial of the ashes of Nellie Gould, 92, of 412 N. White will be at 2 p.m. June 24, at the Arcadia Cemetery.

Ethel Howell

Ethel M. Howell, 77, of Lakeview Rehab Center, formerly of Centennial Towers, died Wednesday, June 14, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Kleine Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Robert Stretch will officiate.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time at the chapel.

Burial of the cremains will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Mason City Cemetery in Mason City.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Mrs. Howell was born icon March 5, 1923, in Ansley. She was raised and attended school in Ansley.

She worked for a time in the dry goods business and spent many years working in laundries. She enjoyed the many years she spent popping corn at the "Corn Popper" stand in downtown Lincoln. Due to health reasons she retired 25 years ago.

She enjoyed working with crafts, crocheting, playing cards, walking and dancing, as well as serving her church and visiting with friends. She was a member of the Christian faith.

Survivors include two daughters, Sandi (Mrs. Rick) Homolka of Grand Island and Marcia Emery of Boise, Idaho; two sons, Everett Donelson of Aurora, Colo. and Robert Donelson of Austin, Texas; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Albert Howell of Ansley.

She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Linda; and a granddaughter, Sherri.

Gail Benson

ORD -- Gail R. Benson, 65, of Ord died Wednesday, June 14, 2000, at his home.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Ord Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Jim Miller will officiate. Military rites will follow at the funeral home by the Ord V. F. W. and American Legion. Burial will be June 23 at the Garden of Valor in the Rose Hills Cemetery at Whittier, Calif.

Visitation will be prior to service time on Monday.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Benson was born icon Feb. 13, 1935, in Valley County to Roger and Velma (Addie) Baker. He was raised in the Ord area and attended Springdale rural school and graduated from Ord High in 1953.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy April 19, 1954, and served until March 31, 1980, when he retired.

He married Yvonne Mullen in November 1959 in Allentown, Pa. Following his retirement from the service he lived at Buena Park, Calif. Mrs. Mullen passed away in November 1989.

In 1994, he moved to Ord where he lived until his death.

He enjoyed bowling and was an avid reader.

Survivors include two sons, Jeff of Las Vegas, Nev., and Robert of Buffalo, N.Y.; two daughters, Raylene Kramer and Shari Risheg, both of Las Vegas, Nev.; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one sister, Saundra Paul of Troy, Idaho.

He was preceded in death by his wife; and a daughter, Renee Benson.
