Margaret Armstrong
OLYMPIA, Wash. -- Margaret A. Armstrong, 91, of Olympia, Wash., formerly of Ord, died Friday, May 19, 2000, at Capital Place in Olympia.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the First Presbyterian Church in Ord. The Rev. David Stipp will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Ord Memorial Chapel.
Memorials are suggested to Providence Sound Home Care and Hospice or the American Heart Association.
Dagmar Klein
MESA, Ariz. -- Dagmar M. Klein, 95, of Mesa, Ariz., formerly of Scotia and Grand Island, died Thursday, May 18, 2000, in Mesa.
Services were on Monday at Hosanna Lutheran Church in Mesa. Burial was in Mountain View Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Mesa.
Mrs. Klein was born
on Feb. 9, 1905, near Dannevirke to Thomas and Dorthea (Pallesen) Hansen. She grew up on the family farm and attended District 29 School in Howard County. She did not start school until she was 9 years old because of goiter problems, which culminated in surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. She and her father traveled by train to the clinic. Despite her late school start, she still graduated in five years.
She married Walter Klein on Sept. 4, 1926, in Grand Island. They lived on the Klein farm near Scotia. They moved to Grand Island in 1955. She worked as a saleswoman at Montgomery Ward and the Wardrobe store. She later worked at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Grand Island and retired from there in 1972.
Her husband died on June 4, 1980, the morning after the Grand Island tornadoes. She moved to Mesa, Ariz., in 1985 and lived with her son, Robert.
She enjoyed crocheting, gardening and reading before her eyesight failed. She was a charter member of Hosanna Lutheran Church in Mesa, Ariz.
Survivors include two sons, Bernard and Robert of Mesa, Ariz.; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Niels, Ernest, Cornel and Clifford; and one sister, Juanita Jacobsen.
Bernard Bredthauer
ORD -- Bernard E. Bredthauer, 73, of Ord died Friday, May 19, 2000, at Valley County Hospital in Ord.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Ord. The Rev. Gerald Roggow will officiate. Burial will be in Ord City Cemetery, with military rites conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion in Ord.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Ord Memorial Chapel. Memorials are suggested to Bernard Bredthauer Memorial.
Mr. Bredthauer was born
May 6, 1927, to Elmer and Wanda (Fuss) Bredthauer on the family farm near Mira Valley in Valley County. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Ord High School in 1944. He served in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1947.
He married Fern Muhlbach on May 21, 1950, at Shelton. They couple farmed near Horace until 1960. They moved to Ord in 1960, and he drove a truck for Roman's Motor Freight for 10 years. He then drove for Yellow Freight Transportation for 20 years. He was a driver for R.P.M. Motor Transports in Kansas City, Mo., when he retired.
Mrs. Bredthauer died on May 25, 1989. He continued to live in Ord.
He married Dorothy Kish in August 1992.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and lifetime member of VFW. He also volunteered at the recycling center and helped deliver fuel.
He enjoyed traveling and visiting with people.
Survivors include one son, Ron of Ord; one daughter, Connie (Mrs. Mike) Baumgart of Buena Vista, Colo.; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Eugene of Ord and one sister, Ruth Pingel of Cedarsburg, Wis.
In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by one brother, Herbert.
Bonnie Carol Gelling
CENTRAL CITY -- Bonnie Carol Gelling, 76, of Central City died Thursday, May 18, 2000, at BryanLGH Medical Center East in Lincoln.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Chapman. The Rev. Richard Henderson will officiate. Burial will be in Chapman Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Kleine Funeral Home chapel, with the family receiving friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the church or American Diabetes Association.
Mrs. Gelling was born
Nov. 13, 1923, to Ernest and Blanche (Raser) Hudnall at rural Chapman. She attended school in Chapman and graduated from Chapman High School in 1941.
She worked at Chapman Lumber Co. for awhile before moving to California, where she worked at a bank.
She married Charles Gelling on May 13, 1945, in California. The couple moved to Chapman. She received her teacher's certificate from Nebraska Central College in Central City and taught in rural Merrick County schools.
She received her bachelor of arts degree in 1959, then worked as a teacher at Central City Public Schools for 30 years. She received her master's degree in 1970 from the University of Colorado at Greeley.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Chapman and taught Sunday school from age 16 until two years ago. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society for many years, serving as a state officer.
She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, her flower and vegetable garden, knitting, quilting, sewing, making ceramic pieces, being a grandmother to all children and collecting bells, ships and elephants.
Survivors include her daughter, Rev. Nita Gelling-Cloran of Gordon; two grandchildren; one brother, Warren Hudnall of Chapman and two sisters, Nola (Mrs. Stanley) Oberhelman of Chapman and Lois (Mrs. L.E.) Killion of Elm Creek.
Norman Henn
ALBION -- Norman N. Henn, 48, of Albion died Saturday, May 20, 2000, following an accident near St. Paul.
Services are pending with Levander Funeral Home in Albion.

William Steadman
CAMPBELL -- William L. Steadman, 69, of Campbell died Tuesday, May 16, 2000, at Grandview Manor Nursing Home in Campbell.
Graveside services were at 2 p.m. Friday at Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell. Burial was in Fort McPherson, with North Platte Honor Guard conducting military rites.
Merten-Butler Mortuary in Blue Hill is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Steadman was born
May 7, 1931, to Alvin C. and Ora A. (Kennedy) Steadman at Orleans. He graduated from Orleans High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from April 15, 1952, to Feb. 5, 1954.
He moved from Lexington to Clay Center in 1980, owning and operating Twin Oaks Motel until 1991, when he moved to Inavale. He moved to Campbell in April.
He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars in Clay Center.
Survivors include three sons, Michael of Auburn, Bryan of New Town, Pa., and Rick of Denver; seven grandchildren; two brothers, Jim of Overland Park, Kan. and Tracey of Denver; four sisters, Shirley Wolzen of Grand Island, Levena Jackson of Happy, Texas, Marilyn Bashford, Manhattan, Kan., and Jackie Muir of Naponee.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Clinton and one sister, Virginia Coffey.
Robert Hartmann
ÐAN ANTONIO, Texas -- Robert H. Hartmann, 55, of San Antonio, Texas, formerly of Grand Island, died Tuesday, May 16, 2000, at Audy Murphy Veterans Affairs Medical Center in San Antonio.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Grand Island. The Rev. Robert Harms will officiate. Mr. Hartmann was cremated. Burial will be at 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Grand Island City Cemetery.
There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran School.
All Faiths Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Hartmann was born
Nov. 30, 1944, to Howard E. Hartmann and Doris M. (Scheffel) Clark. He grew up in Grand Island, attending Jefferson Elementary School and Trinity Lutheran School and Walnut Junior High. He graduated from Grand Island Senior High in 1963.
He attended florist and cosmetology schools. He served in the U.S. Navy.
He lived in Wood River, Grand Island, Omaha and lived in San Antonio for the past 20 years.
He was a member of the Lutheran faith.
Survivors include his father of Holdrege; his mother of Grand Island; one stepfather, Dale Clark of Grand Island; one stepmother, Rosie Hartmann of Holdrege; one brother, David of Juniata; two stepbrothers, Bill Clark of Loup City and Mike Larson of Holdrege; two stepsisters, Sherry Ramig of Fremont and Roxie Winheim of Bertrand; and a special friend, David Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
DeReta Novacek
DeReta C. Novacek, 85, of Grand Island died Friday, May 19, 2000.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Cathedral of the Risen Christ in Lincoln with the Rev. Kenneth Hoesing officiating. Burial will be in Lincoln Memorial Park.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday at Butherus-Maser and Love Mortuary in Lincoln. A rosary will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to St. Jude's Research Hospital.
Mrs. Novacek had worked as a beautician and cosmetologist.
Survivors include a daughter, Patricia (Mrs. Robert) Ochsner of Grand Island; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Vivian Mobley of Lincoln and Colletta Peterson of Arizona.
Bernard Bredthauer
ORD -- Bernard E. Bredthauer, 73, of Ord died Friday, May 19, 2000, at the Valley County Hospital in Ord.

Pat Horn
BROKEN BOW -- Patricia "Pat" Horn, 74, of Broken Bow died Thursday, May 18, 2000, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow with the Rev. David Harder officiating. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to Burr Oak Church.
Mrs. Horn was born
on Nov. 13, 1925, at Miller to Clyde L. and Hazel G. (Scranton) Veal. Her childhood was spent in Miller, where she attended grade school. She graduated from Miller High School in 1943.
She married Wilbur T. "Tom" Horn on Aug. 21, 1943. The Horns lived on a farm north of the South Loup River. They moved to Broken Bow in July 1975.
Mrs. Horn was a member of Burr Oak Church and the Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Tom of Oak Ridge, N.J., and Mike of Garner, N.C.; three grandchildren; one great-grandson; and a brother, Lyle Veal of Overton.
She was preceded in death by a grandson and a sister, Jeanne Sleicher.
