W. Lee Bennett
GIBBON -- W. Lee Bennett, 61, of Gibbon died Tuesday, May 9, 2000, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Godberson Mortuary in Gibbon. The Rev. Ron Roemmich will officiate. Burial will be in the Gibbon Riverside Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Mr. Bennett was born
April 11, 1939, at Kearney to Walter R. and Bernice B. (Bettinger) Bennett.
Survivors include two sons, Scott of Kearney and Kent of Rock Springs, Wyo.; a daughter, Brenda Sigler of Cozad; five grandchildren; and a sister, Helen Bennett-Case of Minden.
He was preceded in death by a son, James.
Elizabeth Brabander
ST. LIBORY -- Elizabeth A. Brabander, 78, of St. Libory died Wednesday, May 10, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Libory's Catholic Church. The Rev. David Rykwalder will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. with a 7:30 p.m. parish rosary Friday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the church, St. Libory Volunteer Fire Department or the St. Libory Quick Response Team.
Peters Funeral Home of St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Brabander was born
Sept. 19, 1921, on the family farm west of St. Libory to John and Clara (Hansjosten) Jansen. She received her education at St. Libory parochial school.
She married Roy N. Brabander on Dec. 30, 1941, at St. Libory. The couple farmed south of St. Libory their entire married life.
She enjoyed soap operas, Nebraska football and her great-grandchildren.
She was a member of St. Libory Catholic Church and its Council of Catholic Women.
Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Donna Kozisek of St. Libory; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Catherine Manning of Shelton; and one brother, Vern Jansen of Grand Island.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Benedict Jansen and three sisters, Anna Greenwalt, Theresa Greenwalt and Marie Smith.
Virginia Cole
SHELTON -- Virginia L. Cole, 77, of Shelton died Tuesday, May 9, 2000, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Platte Valley Academy Chapel in Shelton. The Rev. Randy Brehms will officiate. Burial will be in the Shelton Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Godberson Mortuary of Gibbon and Shelton is in charge of arrangements.
She enjoyed making baby quilts and flower gardening.
Survivors include her husband; a son, James R. of Gibbon; two daughters, Tara Corder of Kannapolis, N.C., and Sally Webb of Littleton, Colo.; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Beverly Moore of Kearney.
She was preceded in death by a son and a daughter.
John Hochreiter
RAVENNA -- John "Jack" Hochreiter, 74, of Ravenna died Wednesday, May 10, 2000, at his home in Ravenna.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Rasmussen Mortuary in Ravenna. The Rev. Mark Cadenbach will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery in Ravenna.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the mortuary.
Mr. Hochreiter was born
May 26, 1925, in Ravenna to Louis and Bertha Hochreiter. He was educated in Ravenna and graduated from Ravenna High School in 1943.
He served in he U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946. He served in the Pacific Theater.
He worked for the R.E.A., Greenslit Lumber, Graham Construction and operated his own construction business.
He married Norma Fries on Feb. 6, 1973, at St. Paul.
Mr. Hochreiter was a member of the VFW.
Survivors include his wife; two stepdaughters, Phyllis Andersen of Hastings and Deb Schuller of Ravenna; two stepsons, Earl Roberts Jr. of Indiana and James Frederick of Wood River; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
Gwynneth Miller
BROKEN BOW -- Gwynneth L. Miller, 90, of Broken Bow, died Thursday, May 11, 2000, at Sandhills Manor Nursing Home in Broken Bow.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Broken Bow Cemetery. The Rev. Cliff Reynolds will officiate.
Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Govier Brothers Mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.
Mrs. Miller was born
Dec. 5, 1909, at Purdum to Oliver J. and Alice Louise (Land) Body. She attended the Compton School west of Purdum through the eighth grade and graduated from Thedford High School. She later graduated from the Grand Island Business College.
She and her mother moved to Broken Bow, where she worked at the Welfare office, retiring from there after more than 35 years.
On Oct. 3, 1945, she married Loren C. Miller at twin Falls, Idaho. Mr. Miller died April 27, 1974.
Mrs. Miller is survived by a niece, Barbara Gilbert of Clyde Park, Mont., and a nephew, Fred M. Body of Purdum.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.
Clarence Moody
SCOTIA -- Clarence Seth Moody, 82, of Scotia died Wednesday, May 10, 2000, at Hamilton Manor in Aurora.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Scotia Baptist Church. The Revs. Keith Moody and Howard Grossoehme will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery at Scotia.
Visitation will be before services Saturday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Moody was born
on March 29, 1918, at Centralia, Mo., to Perrin N. and Deannetta (Wiechmann) Moody. He lived in several places in Missouri and began his education there. The family moved to Nebraska in 1930 and settled in the Scotia area. Mr. Moody attended school at Glendale and Scotia. He then farmed in Valley County. He moved to Idaho in 1936 and raised sheep and farmed. He returned to Nebraska in 1938.
He married Myrtle Alice Dwinell on Feb. 26, 1941, at her parents' homestead at Ericson. The couple lived and farmed 11 miles northeast of Scotia. Mrs. Moody died on Dec. 29, 1989. Mr. Moody lived on the farm until June 1999, when he moved to Hamilton Manor in Aurora.
He was a member of the Scotia Baptist Church. He was a past member of the school board. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and horses.
Survivors include two sons, Vernon and Arnold, both of Scotia; two daughters, Carol (Mrs. Stan) Schrag of Eleuthera, Bahamas, and Donita (Mrs. John) Springer of Aurora; 14 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by six brothers, Earl, Raymond, Levi, Clifford, Roland and Wayne; and four sisters, Pamelia Moody, Vivian Everett, Amy Farquhar and Edith Smith.
Farnum Schrader
PALMER -- Farnum T. Schrader, 83, of Palmer died Wednesday, May 10, 2000, at Bryan/LGH East in Lincoln.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul. The Rev. Robert Schilling will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Palmer with graveside military honors.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Mr. Schrader was born
March 18, 1917, at Bradshaw to Pete and Annie (Shockey) Schrader. He attended a country school near Polk and Polk High School, where he graduated.
In 1936 he went to South Dakota to work in the wheat fields and worked for a farm family there.
He joined the Army in June 1941. He served in the European Theater during World War II. He was discharged in October 1945. He returned to the family farm near Bradshaw and farmed with his father.
He married Ruth Miller on Jan. 31, 1948, at Hastings. The couple first farmed near Bradshaw and later in the Blue River area near Sutton. In 1956 the family moved to a farm near Wolbach. In May 1975 they moved to a farm southwest of Palmer, where he worked for Howard County as a road maintenance operator until 1989.
His hobbies were woodworking, gardening, playing cards and bowling.
He was a member of the Carl Mogensen American Legion Post 119 of St. Paul.
Mr. Schrader is survived by his wife; three sons, Terry of Alda, Jerry of Palmyra and Jeff of Montgomery Village, Md.; two daughters, Joan (Mrs. Garrett) Mundt and Jean (Mrs. Edward) Gibson, both of Lincoln; one brother, Maynard of York; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Glenn and 2 sisters, Rae Cramer and Cappy Lorenson.
Robert Schrup
BURWELL -- Robert Henry Schrup, 81, of Burwell died Tuesday, May 9, 2000, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Burwell. The Rev. Greg Volzke will officiate. Burial will be in Cottonwood Cemetery in Burwell.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Eberle-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell.
Memorials are suggested to the church or the Burwell Ambulance Fund.
Mr. Schrup was born
on May 7, 1919, in Gentry, Ark., to Henry and Nellie (Carson-Bowers) Schrup. His family returned in the early 1920s to Loup County, where they had homesteaded in 1905. He attended Valleyview District 17 School in Loup County, graduating from the eighth grade in 1933.
He served as a staff sergeant in the Air Corps in World War II and was stationed in Texas.
He married Bernice Helena Scherzberg on June 12, 1943, in Houston. Following the war, the couple moved to Loup County. Mrs. Schrup died on Feb. 8, 1988.
Mr. Schrup served as District 1 Loup County commissioner from 1958 through 1982. In later years, he was a member of Farmers and Ranchers to Save the Loup and Calamus, the Calamus Lake Association, the Loup County Historical Society and Burwell American Legion Post 298.
He loved to ranch and raise poultry. He was an adopted grandparent for Jean Harden's fifth- and sixth-grade program at Taylor School. He received an honorary high school diploma from Loup County Public School on Veterans Day 1999 with other World War II veterans who had not completed high school.
Survivors include two sisters-in-law, Maxine Brown and Eula Mae Scherzberg, both of Burwell.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Lawrence, Glen and Sam Bowers; and two sisters, Bessie Bowers and Alice Kittle.
