Ruby Petzoldt

Ruby M. Petzoldt, 79, of Grand Island, died Tuesday, April 11, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. at St. Pauls Lutheran Church. The Rev. Joel Schroeder will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to St. Pauls Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society.

Floyd Augustyn

WICHITA, Kan. -- Floyd C. Augustyn, 86, formerly of Ord, died Monday, April 10, 2000, at his son's home in Wichita, Kan.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Ord. The Rev. Jim Warner will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord City Cemetery with military rites by the Ord VFW and the American Legion.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday with a rosary at 7:30 p.m. at the Ord Memorial Chapel.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

James Ball

SHELTON -- James C. Ball, 78, of Shelton died Monday, April 10, 2000, at his home in Shelton.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at United Methodist Church in Shelton. The Rev. Charles Spence will officiate. Burial will be in Shelton Cemetery, with military rites by American Legion Post No. 297 in Shelton.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the church or Shelton Fire Department.

Apfel Funeral Home in Wood River is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Ball was born icon Sept. 6, 1921, to James D. and Eleanor E. (Davis) Ball at Pleasanton. He grew up in Pleasanton and graduated from Pleasanton High School. He started working for Union Pacific Railroad in 1941. He entered the U.S. Army on Jan. 7, 1943, serving during World War II. He was discharged on March 2, 1946.

He married Betty Lucille Stevenson on June 18, 1947, at Quimby, Iowa. After living in Grand Island, Gibbon and St. Edward, the couple moved to Shelton in 1962. He returned to work for Union Pacific, retiring in 1985 after 44 years of service.

He was a member of United Methodist Church, Union Pacific Old Timers Club No. 16 and American Legion Post No. 297 in Shelton.

He was an avid gardener known for his beautiful flowers. He also enjoyed calligraphy, Nebraska football, traveling with his wife and spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Jon of Poynette, Wisc.; three daughters, Raye Ann (Mrs. Ken) Stenehjem of North Platte, Linda (Mrs. Tom) Polcha of Phoenix and Lori (Mrs. Alan) Cornelius of Shelton; five grandchildren; one brother, Ersel "Honk" of Kearney and two sisters, Bertha Daake of Riverdale and Agnes Royle of Kearney.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Francis and an infant brother and sister.

'Maggie' Everett

ST. PAUL -- Magdalena E. "Maggie" Everett, 85, of St. Paul died Sunday, April 9, 2000, at the Good Samaritan Center in Ravenna.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in St. Paul with the Rev. Michael McDermott officiating. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. in Highland Park Cemetery in Ravenna.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday with a wake service at 7 p.m. at the church. Visitation will continue from 8:30 a.m. until service time Thursday.

Memorials are suggested to the church or the Good Samaritan Center.

Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include two stepsons; two stepdaughters; three sisters, Arlone Novotne of Gibbon, Viola Hall of Gering and Helen Hohlfeld of Ravenna; and one brother, Hank Hohlfeld of Gering.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James; two brothers, Lawrence and Edward Hohlfeld; and two sisters, Gertrude Billings and Anna Booze.

Betty Homolka

FARWELL -- Betty L. Homolka, 67, of Farwell died Sunday, April 9, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Farwell with the Revs. Dave Rykwalder and Larry Coulter officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Grand Island.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday with a 6 p.m. rosary at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Survivors include her husband, Richard; four sons, Richard "Butch" Homolka Jr., Anton "Tony" Homolka Sr., Dean Homolka and Russell Homolka Sr., all of Grand Island; two daughters, Betty (Mrs. Larry) Roebuck of Farwell and Ann (Mrs. Terry) Schleicher of Central City; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three brothers, Walter Davis Jr. of Grand Island, Roland Davis of Cozad and Dean Davis of Arizona; and three sisters, Helen Benson, Vera Hill and Mary Manka, all of Grand Island.

She was preceded in death by an infant daughter; an infant grandson; and three brothers, Ivan Davis, Don Davis and Darell Davis.

Wilmer Johnson

STROMSBURG -- Wilmer Elner Johnson, 87, of Stromsburg died Monday, April 10, 2000, at Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Evangelical Covenant Church in Stromsburg. The Rev. Bob Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Stromsburg Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Palmer Funeral Home in Stromsburg. Memorials are suggested to the church or Midwest Covenant Home.

Mr. Johnson was born icon Sept. 18, 1912, to William E. and Hannah (Larson) Johnson at rural Stromsburg. He attended District 70 School and graduated from High Prairie High School, both near Stromsburg, in 1930.

He married Elvera Flodman on Oct. 19, 1937, at Denver. He farmed west of Stromsburg. He retired and moved to Stromsburg in 1983. The couple moved to Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg in April 1999.

Survivors include his wife; four sons, Duane, Gary and Steven, all of Lincoln and Ronald of Piqua, Ohio; one daughter, Cheryl (Mrs. Gary) Wheeler of Lincoln; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Raymond and three sisters, Edith Granier, Martha Shostrom and Bertha Peterson.

Mary Kunzman

LINCOLN -- Mary Renee Kunzman, 38, of Lincoln died Sunday, April 9, 2000.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Lincoln with the Rev. Michael Christensen officiating. Burial will be in Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday with a 7 p.m. rosary at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home and one hour before service time Thursday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Kunzman was born icon on Dec. 7, 1961, at Quincy, Ill., to Franklin and Lucy (Lemen) Faust.

She was a sales representative for Vincent Metal Goods.

She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and the Social Committee for Yankee Hill Country Club.

Survivors include her husband, Doug; her mother, Lucy Faust; two brothers-in-law, Steve Kunzman of Grand Island and Matt Faust of Garrett, Ind.; two sisters-in-law, Julie (Mrs. Brian) Rasmussen and Jane (Mrs. Craig) Little of Lincoln; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Tony and Karen Kunzman of Albion.

She was preceded in death by her father, Frank Faust; and her mother-in-law, Mildred Kunzman.

Phyllis Withers

LINCOLN -- Phyllis N. Withers, 84, of Lincoln, formerly of Grand Island, died Sunday, April 9, 2000, at Tabatha Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Lincoln.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church in Grand Island with the Rev. C. Roger Nelson officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association or the church.

Mrs. Withers was born icon Dec. 28, 1915, in Barada to Harry and Effie (Ankrom) Slagle.

Survivors include two sons, Jerry of Cheyenne, Wyo., and John of Grand Island; two daughters, Karen Oliver of Lincoln and Janet Stone of Waverly; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Harriett Padgett-Lutz of Columbia, Mo.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Nelson, Keith and Loy.

Maxine Whittington

SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- Maxine Codner Whittington, 83, of San Diego, Calif., died Oct. 4, 1999, at San Diego.

Graveside committal of her cremated remains will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Jerry Quandt will officiate.

Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Whittington is survived by one daughter, Judith Hauth of Carlsbad, Calif., a son, Kenneth Galiazzo of San Gabriel, Calif.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Olga Ewoldt

Olga Ewoldt, 99, of Grand Island died Thursday, April 6, 2000, at Wedgewood Care Center in Grand Island.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Pauls Lutheran Church. The Rev. John D. Russell will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.

Memorials are suggested to St. Pauls Lutheran Church Radio Ministry.

Miss Ewoldt was born icon Jan. 23, 1901, to Henry and Margaret (Husen) Ewoldt in rural Hall County. She grew up near Grand Island and attended District 3 School.

Following her education she had various jobs in the Grand Island area. She moved to Cheyenne, Wyo., where she worked as a hostess at the Valencia Supper Club for a number of years. She returned to Grand Island to care for her father and worked at Brodkey's Jewelers.

She was the granddaughter of original Grand Island settler Cay Ewoldt.

She was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church and a former member of BPO Does.

Survivors include one brother, Bernhardt of Seneca and a special friend Dora Tucker.

She was preceded in death by eight brothers, Otto, Edmund, Cay, Henry, Hans, Elmer, Paul and Wilmer and one sister, Margaret.

Bertha Franklin

Bertha C. Franklin, 69, of Grand Island, died Friday, April 7, 2000, at St. Francis.

Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
