John Austin
NEWMAN GROVE -- John H. "Jack" Austin, 91, of Newman Grove died Thursday, March 23, 2000, at the Mid-Nebraska Lutheran Home in Newman Grove.
Services are pending with Levander Funeral Home in Albion.

Woodrow Meyers
SWEET HOME, Ore. -- Woodrow A. Meyers, 77, formerly of North Loup, died on Wednesday, March 22, 2000, at his home in Sweet Home, Ore., following a lingering illness.
Services will be on Saturday at St. Helen's Church in Sweet Home.
Mr. Meyers was born
on May 3, 1922, to Clem N. and Winifred (Westberg) Meyers. He graduated from North Loup Senior High School in 1940.
During World War II, he enlisted in the Air Force. He attended the University of Oklahoma in Norman and finished his tour of duty in Alamogordo, N.M.
He worked in Omaha as a postal carrier and retired from a similar position in Long Beach, Calif.
Survivors include his wife, Marian; three sisters, Julia Carr of Colorado Springs, Colo., Winifred Boldt of Grand Island and Alice Berigan of Ord.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Clem and Gilbert.
Daniel Wells
PHOENIX -- Daniel C. Wells, 44, of Phoenix died Wednesday, March 22, 2000, in Phoenix.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in St. Paul. The Revs. Martha Voigt, Thomas Hyde and Rod Pedersen will officiate. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in Grand View Cemetery in Anselmo.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association.
Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Wells was born
on June 15, 1955, at Broken Bow to Clinton and Doris (Winchester) Wells. He attended elementary school in Elba and Harrison and graduated from Elba Public Schools in 1973.
He married Denice Pedersen on July 24, 1974. The couple farmed near Elba. In 1986, he moved to Phoenix, where he was self-employed as a carpet installer until his death.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Elba and enjoyed sports, softball and working on his computer.
Survivors include two sons, Marcus, who is stationed with the U.S. Navy in Yokusaka, Japan, and Chadwick of St. Paul; two daughters, Becky (Mrs. Kevin) O'Brien of Osmond and Daneille Wells of Elba; two grandchildren; his parents, of Elba; and one brother, Tim of Elba.
He was preceded in death by one brother, William.
Carl Davis
Carl W. Davis, 77, of Grand Island died Tuesday, March 21, 2000, in Omaha.
Services are pending with Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Rose Jares
Rose M. Jares, 90, of Grand Island died Monday, March 20, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with the Rev. Don Larmore officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation is from 9:30 a.m. until service time Friday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the church.

Mrs. Jares was born
on Jan. 12, 1910, north of Elm Creek to John and Mary Demuth. She attended a country school near Elm Creek. After attending school, she worked cleaning houses in Kearney.
She moved to Grand Island and worked for Ideal Cleaners for 18 years. She then worked for Van Box Cleaners.
She married Johnnie Jares on May 1, 1965, in Grand Island. They lived in St. Paul for a short time and then moved to Grand Island when they retired.
Her hobbies included gardening and making crafts. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
Survivors include her husband of Grand Island.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Frank, Joe and Bill and three sisters, Elizabeth, Ann and Mary.
Marilyn Jeffries
Marilyn J. (Keister) Jeffries, 64, of Grand Island died Monday, March 20, 2000, at her home.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Trinity United Methodist Church. The Revs. Jim Keyser and Lonnie Logan will officiate. Mrs. Jeffries will be cremated.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the church, the YWCA, YMCA, Crane Meadows Nature Center or Grand Island Educational Foundation.
Mrs. Jeffries was born
on Oct. 9, 1935, at Grand Island to Donald and Mary (Brandt) Keister. She grew up and was educated in Grand Island, graduating from Grand Island Senior High School in 1953. She then graduated from Stephens College in Columbia, Mo., and received a bachelor of science degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
She married William "Bud" Jeffries of Madrid on June 8, 1957, in Grand Island. The couple lived for six years in Grand Rapids, Mich., where she was an elementary school teacher. They returned to Grand Island in 1964.
She was a lifelong member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Riverside Golf Club, the Saddle Club, Stuhr Museum, St. Francis Auxiliary and Crane Meadows Nature Center.
She loved participating in sports, especially bowling and golf.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Bill of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Jim of Grand Island; one daughter, Jane Richardson of Grand Island; six grandchildren; and two sisters, Pat (Mrs. Norman "Pep") Petrocine of Estes Park, Colo., and Nancy Middleton of Mount Vernon, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by one son, Jack; and her parents.
Ralph Riley
Ralph Riley, 72, of Grand Island, formerly of Albion, died Monday, March 20, 2000, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Omaha.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Levander Funeral Home in Albion. The Rev. Rose Bartelson will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Albion, with military rites by American Legion Post 162 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 736 of Albion.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Riley was born
on June 9, 1927, near Bradish in Boone County to Louis W. and Frieda L. (Bantz) Riley. He attended Albion elementary schools and Albion High School.
He served in the U.S. Marines from March 30, 1945, to March 29, 1949.
He married Janett Arlene Allison on Aug. 15, 1950, at Fullerton. They lived in Albion. He worked for two years at the ammunition plant in Mead. He then worked in construction at various places and worked at Tom Johnson's feedlot from 1965 to 1980. He moved to Columbus in 1979, working at Fleischer Manufacturing until the early 1990s. He entered the Grand Island Veterans Home in 1992.
Survivors include five sons, John, Jody and Randy, all of Columbus, Jim of Grand Island and Jerry of Albion; one daughter, Sondra (Mrs. Rodney) Schaefer of Republic, Mo.; and 10 grandchildren.
Margaret Schoel
Margaret P. Schoel, 94, of Riverside Lodge in Grand Island died Tuesday, March 21, 2000, at her son's home in Omaha.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at St. Pauls Lutheran Church. The Rev. Joel Schroeder will officiate. Burial will be in Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Olive Brewer
HANSEN -- Olive M. Brewer, 90, of Hansen died Monday, March 20, 2000, at Haven Home in Kenesaw.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Butler-Volland Chapel in Hastings. The Rev. Jim Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery at Hastings.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to Grace United Methodist Church or the donor's choice.
Mrs. Brewer was born
on Jan. 16, 1910, in Rosedale to Frank H. and Laura (Fairbanks) Lowell. She attended Hall County District 49 School and graduated from Rosedale High School in 1928.
She worked at various jobs in Hastings.
She married Blaine Brewer of Hansen on May 26, 1932. Mr. Brewer died on Aug. 30, 1983. Mrs. Brewer lived in Hansen until moving to Haven Home in November 1999.
She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church of Hastings and the Hansen Study Club for more than 50 years.
Survivors include one son, Thomas of Hansen; one daughter, Glenna Bengtson of Hastings; two grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
Leland Chaffin
BURWELL -- Leland Ora Chaffin, 81, of Burwell died Sunday, March 19, 2000, at BryanLGH Medical Center in Lincoln.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Burwell. The Rev. Michael Laing will officiate. Burial will be in Cottonwood Cemetery in Burwell.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Eberle-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell.
Memorials are suggested to the church, Community Memorial Health Center or the Burwell Ambulance Supply Fund.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, DeeDii Bonsall of Aurora; one son, Bub of Burwell; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren; three brothers, Les of Norfolk, Gerald of Lincoln and Jerald of Burwell; and one sister, Lois Howart of Burwell.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jeanne Cain; a granddaughter; a brother, Wayne Chaffin; and a sister, Doris Cass.
