Clara Sanders

RAVENNA -- Clara Sanders, 86, of Ravenna died Saturday, March 11, 2000, at Rose Lane Home in Loup City.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ravenna. The Rev. Steven Schlund will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to the church or Ravenna emergency medical technicians. Rasmussen Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Sanders was born icon July 28, 1913, in Buffalo County to Henry and Theda (Suntkin) Feldman. She was educated in rural Buffalo County.

She married Tom Sanders on Feb. 24, 1932, in Broken Bow. They farmed in Mason City and Loup City and then retired in Ravenna in 1970. Mrs. Sanders operated food concessions at Olsen Auction and Ravenna Livestock. She also served as director of the Ravenna Senior Center for nine years.

She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Faye Wosnick of Henry and Betty Shrader of Ravenna; a son, Larry of Fremont; two brothers, Robert and Ralph Feldman of VanMeter, Iowa; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom; two brothers; and a sister.

Raylene Steele

GREELEY -- Raylene K. Steele, 38, of Greeley died Thursday, March 9, 2000, at her home.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Scheef Mortuary in Spalding. The Rev. Joe Hannappel will officiate.

Ms. Steele was born icon Aug. 30, 1961, at Grand Island to Ray and Lorraine (Ruge) Winkleman. She graduated from Aurora High School in 1979.

She lived in the Aurora and Grand Island areas until 1991, when she moved to Greeley County. She moved to the town of Greeley in 1996.

She enjoyed the country, her friends and her pets.

Survivors include her parents; two children, Mandi and Brandon; and two sisters.

Catherine Jacobsen

Catherine C. Jacobsen, 93, of Grand Island died Thursday, March 9, 2000, at Tiffany Square Care Center.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, at the chapel of St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Grand Island with the Rev. Joel Schroeder officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Minden City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.

Memorials are suggested to St. Pauls Lutheran Church.

Survivors include a special friend, Jack Granstrom of Grand Island; caretakers, Leonard and Phyllis Dibbern of Grand Island and several nieces.

Paula Neppl

Paula S. Neppl, 32, of Grand Island died Friday, March 10, 2000, at St. Francis Skilled Care Center after an illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Pauls Lutheran Church. The Rev. Joel Schroeder will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, with family receiving friends from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Kleine Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the Paula Neppl Memorial Fund for her two children.

Mrs. Neppl was born icon July 26, 1967, to Thomas J. and Janet S. (Meyer) Hill in Grand Island. She attended Engleman Elementary School, Westridge Middle School and graduated from Northwest High School in 1985. She moved to Texas and worked as a clerk for U-Haul.

She married Brent Grenvall in Grand Island. She transferred to U-Haul in Grand Island, where she continued to work.

She later married Marc Neppl, and the couple lived in Grand Island. She worked for a car rental business at Central Nebraska Regional Airport. She also worked for Grand Island Trailer before her last position working with her parents and grandmother at Hills Furniture. Mr. Neppl died in June 1998.

She was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church.

She enjoyed riding horses, water and snow skiing and camping with family and friends.

Survivors include one son, Ethan Neppl of Grand Island; one daughter, Ashley Grenvall of Grand Island; and her parents.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her grandparents.

Lester Roach

Lester J. Roach, 80, of Grand Island died Friday, March 10, 2000, at Grand Island Veterans Home.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Grand Island City Cemetery. The Rev. Tom Ryan will officiate.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the family.

Mr. Roach was born icon July 10, 1919, to John and Ocia (Homan) Roach in Hall County. He grew up and attended school in Grand Island. After his education, he worked with the Work Projects Administration and later for Safeway Stores.

He entered the U.S. Army on Feb. 19, 1941, serving until Oct. 18, 1945.

He married Dorothy M. Grudzinski on Nov. 24, 1949. He worked for Kiewit Construction for four years after the service. He then worked in the sheet metal trade for McElroy Service Co., McCormick Inc. in York and then with Jerry's Sheet Metal until he retired.

Mrs. Roach died in 1996. He moved to Grand Island Veterans Home in October 1999.

Survivors include three daughters, Cynthia Hess of Fort Wayne, Ind., Catherine Davis of Farmington, Ark., and Christi Paulson of Palmyra; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Ross of Westminster, Colo.; and two sisters, Betty Wadell of Chicago and Delores Schields of Aurora, Colo.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Floyd and Hugh and two sisters, Vera Van Gordon and Opal Williams.

Victor Vasquez

Victor F. Vasquez, 53, of Grand Island died Wednesday, March 8, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home chapel. The Rev. Jose Chavez will officiate. Burial will be in Phillips Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, with a 5:30 p.m. rosary there.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Mr. Vasquez was born icon Dec. 23, 1946, to Domingo J. and Christina (Ornelas) Vasquez at Norwalk, Calif. He grew up and attended school in Norwalk and graduated from John Glenn High School there.

He entered the U.S. Army on Nov. 23, 1964, serving as a combat engineer in the Vietnam War. He was discharged on Nov. 3, 1967, and served in the U.S. Army Reserve until 1994.

After his discharge, he worked for Heiden Construction in Hampton for 28 years. He had been working for Tri City Sign Co. at the time of his death.

He enjoyed Nebraska football and fishing.

Survivors include one daughter, Monica (Mrs. Robert) Aguilar of Grand Island; four grandchildren; two brothers, Phillip and John, both of Norwalk; and two sisters, Ramona of Norwalk and Candelaria Fergusen of Willow Springs, Mo.

Iola Rice

CHAPMAN -- Iola M. Rice, 86, of Chapman died Thursday, March 9, 2000, at Tiffany Square.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church of Chapman. The Revs. Lloyd Boyce, Chris Nielson and Vernon Rice will officiate. Burial will be in the Chapman cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Kleine Funeral Home with the family receiving friends throughout the afternoon and evening.

Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church of Chapman.

Roy Boltz Sr.

Roy W. Boltz, Sr., 90, of Grand Island died Thursday, March 9, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Faith United Methodist Church. The Rev. Richard Karohl will officiate. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 2 to 4 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Mr. Boltz was born icon Aug. 30, 1909, to Herman and Minnie (Strube) Boltz in Hall County, near Prosser. He was educated and grew up near Prosser.

He married Florence Oliver on Dec. 31, 1930, in Hastings. He then farmed and worked in Buffalo, Hall and Hamilton counties.

He later married Frances Ummel on May 4, 1973, in Grand Island.

He married Etta Hofgren in 1986 at Las Vegas. The couple lived in Phoenix until 1989 when he returned to Grand Island.

He was a member of the Eagles Aerie No. 378 of which he was a Golden Eagle.

Survivors include three sons, Roy Jr. and Glenn, both of Grand Island, and Jerome of Clarks; three daughters, Marlyn (Mrs. Andrew) McIntosh of Gibbon, Laura (Mrs. Ray) Pipes of Maud, Texas, and Lois (Mrs. Melvin) Dahlke of Palmer; 27 grandchildren; 69 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Myrtle Keller of Grand Island.

He was preceded in death by his three wives; one son, Robert; two sisters; five brothers; one granddaughter and one great-granddaughter.

Dorothy Clement

Dorothy M. Clement, 88, of Grand Island, formerly of Scotia, died Thursday, March 9, 2000, at Park Place Health Care and Rehab Center.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Scotia. The Rev. Melanie Adams will officiate. Burial will be in the Mount Hope Cemetery at Scotia. The casket will be open prior to services.

Memorials are suggested to the Scotia Rescue Unit.

Peters Funeral Home of St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Clement was born icon Dec. 26, 1911, at Milford to William and Mabel (Hart) Reck. She moved with her family at a young age to Big Springs where she received her education and graduated from high school. She then worked as a teacher in the Big Springs area.

She married Floyd Clement on Jan. 26, 1934, at Julesburg, Colo. The couple then moved near Scotia where they farmed for many years before moving to town in 1959. Mrs. Clement drove a school bus for the North Loup Scotia Schools for many years.

Mr. Clement died Dec. 22, 1981. She continued to live in Scotia until seven years ago when she moved to Grand Island and lived in an assisted living home.

She was a member of the United Methodist church of Scotia and Lamertine Club, She enjoyed playing cards, sewing and cooking.

Survivors include three daughters, Leona (Mrs. Charles) Patrick of Vancouver, Canada, Lois (Mrs. Robert) Koepp of Grand Island and Ruby (Mrs. David) Ashley of Pueblo, Colo.; one son, Jim of Brighton, Colo.; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Duane Reck of Milton, Wash.; and one sister, Alice Kinney of Elve, Wash.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by one grandson and four brothers, Marvin, Richard, Ray and Owen Reck.
