Victor Vasquez
Victor F. Vasquez, 53, of Grand Island died Wednesday, March 8, 2000, at the St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services are tentatively scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home Chapel in Grand Island.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Survivors include a daughter, Monica (Mrs. Robert) Aguilar of Grand Island; four grandchildren; two brothers, Phillip and John, both of Norwalk, Calif., and two sisters, Ramona of Norwalk and Candelaria Fergusen of Willow Springs, Mo.

Gordon G. Wiemers, 57, of Grand Island, died Friday, March 10, 2000, at his home.

RAVENNA -- Harvey Adamson, 79, of Ravenna, died Friday, March 10, 2000, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services are pending with Rasmussen Mortuary in Ravenna.
'Gene' Fowler
HORDVILLE -- Milburn Eugene "Gene" Fowler, 73, of Hordville died Thursday, March 9, 2000, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Solt Funeral Home in Central City. The Rev. Darryl Keeney will officiate. Burial will be in the Hordville Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Mr. Fowler was born
Sept. 5, 1926, to Joseph Glenn and Margaret Rachel (Wilison) Fowler in Phillips. He graduated from Marquette High School in 1943. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1945.
He married Iola Clarice Bengston on May 5, 1949. They lived in Hordville where he began Fowler Construction. He operated his carpenter business until his retirement in 1988.
He was a member of the Hordville Volunteer Fire Department and in 1992 he received a 35-year plaque. He was a member of the Polk American Legion for more than 50 years. He enjoyed animals and raised angora sheep, donkeys, geese and horses. He also enjoyed woodworking.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Randy of Central City and Ron and Murray, both of Hordville; three daughters, Marla (Mrs. Trevor) Hansen of York, Rita Fowler of Aurora and Becky (Mrs. Keith) Green of Somers, Iowa; 22 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Melvin and an infant brother.
Calmer Lampshire
CENTRAL CITY -- Calmer Lampshire, 57, of Central City, formerly of Hordville, died Friday, March 10, 2000, at Litzenberg Memorial County Hospital in Central City.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church in Hordville. The Rev. Darryl Keeney will officiate. Burial will be in Lindale Cemetery near Hordville.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Solt Funeral Home in Central City.
Mr. Lampshire was born
Jan. 10, 1943, to Lyman E. and Goldie E. (Benson) Lampshire at Aurora. He grew up near Hordville where he lived with his parents. After his father's death, he spent 28 years in the home of his brother, Donald Lampshire and his family. He had been living at IHS Community Care in Central City for the last three-and-a-half years.
He participated in Nebraska Special Olympics competitions for many years until his health failed.
He was a member of Hamilton-Merrick County Association of Retarded Citizens and Eagles Lodge No. 378 in Grand Island. He attended the First Baptist Church in Hordville.
He enjoyed doing farm chores and attending farm auctions.
Survivors include two brothers, Donald of Hordville and Merlyn of Lincoln.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Eugene and three sisters, Lorraine and Delores Flodman and Darlene Meerkatz.
Leroy Nelson
ST. EDWARD -- Leroy Dale Nelson, 76, of St. Edward died Wednesday, March 8, 2000, at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at United Methodist-Presbyterian Church in St. Edward. The Revs. Edward Gill and Frank Baumert will officiate. Burial will be in St. Edward Catholic Cemetery, with military rites conducted by Crosier American Legion Post 226 of St. Edward.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Miller-Levander Funeral Home in St. Edward. Visitation will continue at the church at 7 p.m. Sunday, with a 7:30 rosary. Visitation will resume from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Monday at the church.
Mr. Nelson was born
Feb. 17, 1924, to Otto and Selma (Swanson) Nelson at Genoa. He was educated at St. Edward Schools and graduated from St. Edward High School in 1942. Following graduation, he worked with his father at his International Harvestor and Chevy Dealership. He entered the U.S. Army Airforce on March 2, 1943, and served until he was honorably discharged on Dec. 29, 1945.
He married Catherine M. Heldt on May 26, 1947, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Albion. They lived in St. Edward where he continued to work at his father's dealership. He later purchased the dealership from his father and operated it until his retirement in 1977. He worked at Kayton International as a salesman for eight years.
He was a member of the St. Edward Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus No. 7825, the St. Edward Community Club, Volunteer Fire Department, Crosier American Legion Post No. 226 and the Albion Country Club.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Colleen (Mrs. Bryan) Schwartzkopf of Mapleton, Iowa, Ellen Nelson of St. Edward and Cheryl (Mrs. Rick) Thompson of Corning, Iowa; five grandchildren; and two sisters, Rose Niemann of St. Edward and Vivian (Mrs. C.A.) Nelson of Sierra Vista, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Virgil, Orville and Dwaine "Jack," three sisters, Grace, Ann and Blanche and one infant sibling.
Iola Rice
CHAPMAN -- Iola M. Rice, 86, of Chapman died Thursday, March 9, 2000, at Tiffany Square.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church of Chapman. The Revs. Lloyd Boyce, Chris Nielson and Vernon Rice will officiate.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Kleine Funeral Home with the family receiving friends throughout the afternoon and evening.
Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church of Chapman.
Mrs. Rice was born
June 25, 1913, to William and Hester (Lutes) Corcilius near Chapman. She grew up in the Chapman area and attended District 3 School in Merrick County. She graduated from Chapman High School in May 1930. She attended Nebraska Central College for two years and taught school in Merrick County District 28 School for three years.
She married Jasper Rice in June 1935 and lived in Grand Island for 10 years. In 1945, they moved to the Corcilius home farm near Chapman where they farmed until 1978. In 1960, she resumed teaching the rural schools of Merrick County. After she received a degree in elementary education from Kearney State College, she came to the Chapman District 9 School where she taught for 12 years. She taught second and third grades for a total of 28 years.
She was a lifelong member of the Chapman Baptist Church and taught Sunday school for most of her life. She also was active in the Women's Missionary Ministry and served on the state board for four years. She was a member and served as president of the District Women's Association.
She also was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and several community groups including Merry Wives Extension Club, Friendly Club and Jolly Janes. She was a storyteller and enjoyed playing bingo and music. She and her husband enjoyed camping with a group, making trips to the West Coast and into the Southern states.
Survivors include one son, Richard of Syracuse, Kan.; one daughter, Janice (Mrs. Dennis) Walker of Chapman; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Lucile (Mrs. Jay) Neilson of Denver.
She was preceded in death by her husband and one infant sister, Wilma.
'Jimmie' Schmidt
BURWELL -- Jim "Jimmie" Schmidt, 96, of Burwell died Thursday, March 9, 2000, at the Community Memorial Health Center in Burwell.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Assembly of God Church. Burial will be in the Cottonwood Cemetery in Burwell. The Rev. Mike Blatchley will officiate.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Eberle-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell.
Memorials are suggested to the Community Memorial Health Center in Burwell.
Mr. Schmidt was born
Nov. 28, 1903, to Fritz and Mary (Landerfield) Schmidt in Dodge County. As a young boy, he moved with his parents to Gables and later to a homestead in Jones Canyon northeast of Burwell. He attended the Willow Springs School.
He stayed on the farm until he could no longer care for it. He moved into the Community Memorial Health Center on July 14, 1997, where he lived until his death.
He loves pets, especially dogs. He enjoyed seeing all the wildlife in the canyon and attending auctions and sales. He also enjoyed reading and visiting with people.
Survivors include two sisters, Elsie Schmidt and Helen Dodd, both of Burwell.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Lillie Reineke and Goldie Dunker and four brothers, Harry, Bill, Lyle and Stanley Schmidt.
Stella Peters
OMAHA -- Stella Peters, 86, of Omaha, formerly of Loup City, died Wednesday, March 8, 2000, at the Burgan Mercy Care Center in Omaha.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the St. Josaphat's Catholic Church. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Loup City.
Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Higgins Funeral Home in Loup City with a sodality rosary at 4 p.m. Visitation will continue from 6 to 9 p.m. at the St. Josaphat's Catholic Church with a vigil service at 7:30 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mrs. Peters was born
Dec. 27, 1913, to John and Theresa (Dembowski) Riskowski in Loup City. She grew up and attended school in the Loup City/Wriggle Creek area. She worked at the Ravenna Creamery in Loup City and the egg plant in Ravenna, from where she retired.
She married Clarence Peters in 1931 at Loup City. Because of her health, she moved to Omaha to live with her daughter in 1983. In February 1999, she moved to a nursing home in Omaha.
Survivors include one son, Clarence of Santa Rosa, Calif.; one daughter, Virginia (Mrs. Dwight) Smith of Omaha; two brothers, John and Alvin Riskowski of Omaha and one sister, Phyllis Sansone of New Jersey; 16 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, Carl and three brothers, Charlie, Stanley and Phillip Riskowski.
Robert Boltz Sr.
VANCOUVER, Wash. -- Robert H. Boltz Sr., 66, of Vancouver, Wash., died Thursday, March 2, 2000, in Vancouver.
Services were March 7 at the Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel. Private burial was in the Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to Kaiser Hospice in Portland, Ore.
Mr. Boltz was born
July 4, 1933, in Wood River. He was a veteran of the Navy and the Nebraska National Guard. He lived in Vancouver for 42 years. He retired from truck driving for Yellow Truck Line in 1995. He was a member of the Teamsters Union.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, gardening and his dogs, Short Stuff and Missy.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Geraldine; three sons, Richard of Sacramento, Calif., Robert Jr. and Scott, both of Vancouver; two daughters, Cindy Rison of Gooding, Idaho and Judy Slaughter of Kenai, Alaska; three brothers, Roy Jr. and Glenn, both of Grand Island and Jerome of Clarks; three sisters, Marlyn McIntosh of Gibbon, Lois of Grand Island and Laura Pipes of Maud, Texas; and 14 grandchildren.
Margaret Imus
COQUILLE, Ore. -- Margaret Imus, 101, of Coquille, Ore., formerly of Albion, died Thursday, March 9, 2000, at the Country Gardens Senior Residence in Coquille.
Services are pending with Levander Funeral Home in Albion.
