Deanna Bolles

Deanna R. Bolles, 58, of Grand Island died Wednesday, March 8, 2000.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Messiah Lutheran Church. The Rev. Gretchen Diers will officiate. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday with the family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.

Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Foundation.

Mrs. Bolles was born icon June 26, 1941, to Louis H. and Arlene (Mahon) Steinwart at Cedar Rapids. She was educated and grew up on a farm near Cedar Rapids. In 1956, the family moved to Grand Island and she continued her education at Grand Island Senior High School, graduating in 1958.

She married Larry J. Bolles on Sept. 8, 1960, in Oceana, Va., after which they lived in Grand Island. She worked at Dreisbach's from 1968 until 1993.

She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Eagles Auxiliary, MADD and the Platt-Duetsche. She enjoyed fishing, camping, sewing, crafts and garage sales. She was an avid Big Red football fan. She especially enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Larry Bolles of Grand Island; three sons, Greg Bolles of Central City, Lanny Bolles of Lincoln and Jamie Bolles of San Diego, Calif; three daughters, Denise (Mrs. Dan) Zabka of Grand Island, Shannon (Mrs. Scott) Scheierman of Sutton and Tara Bolles of Tempe, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren; her mother, Arlene Steinwart of Grand Island; two brothers, Del Steinwart of Grand Island and Don Steinwart of Gering; and one sister, Donna Lou Hellbusch of Belgrade.

She was preceded in death by her father, Louis H. Steinwart.

Dorothy Clement

Dorothy M. Clement, 88, of Grand Island, formerly of Scotia, died Thursday, March 9, 2000, at Park Place Health Care and Rehab Center.

Services are pending with Peters Funeral Home of St. Paul.

Catherine Jacobsen

Catherine C. Jacobsen, 93, of Grand Island died Thursday, March 9, 2000, at Tiffany Square Care Center.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, at the chapel of St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Grand Island with The Reverend Joel Schroeder officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Minden City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.

Memorials are suggested to St. Pauls Lutheran Church.

Miss Jacobsen was born icon on Sept.17, 1906, to Gerluf and Anna (Boisen) Jacobsen at Kearney County. She was educated in Cushing Public Schools, graduating from Cushing High School in 1924. She then attended Kearney State Teacher's College from 1924 to 1926 and then St. Paul Business College in 1941.

She was employed as a school teacher in Howard, Lincoln, and Custer Counties from 1924 to 1938. She moved to Washington, D.C. where she worked for the War Production Board from 1941 to 1944 before moving back to Lincoln, where she was employed by the Veteran's Administration from 1944 to 1950. She then moved back to Grand Island where she worked for the Veteran's Administration from 1950 to 1976, at which time she retired.

She was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church.

Survivors include a special friend, Jack Granstrom of Grand Island and caretakers, Leonard and Phyllis Dibbern of Grand Island.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Jess Jacobsen.

Helen Bowers

ALBION -- Helen Eleanor Bowers, 92, of Albion died Tuesday, March 7, 2000, at the Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center in Albion following a brief illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Levander Funeral Home in Albion. The Rev. Raymond Avidano will officiate. Burial will be in the Dublin Cemetery in Primrose.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Bowers was born icon Jan. 17, 1908, to Olaf and Emma (Bengsten) Johnson at Kearney. She was baptized and confirmed in the Presbyterian faith. She attended Sumner Public School in Sumner.

She married Harry E. Bowers on Feb. 22, 1928, at Genoa. They lived in the Primrose, Cedar Rapids and St. Edward communities. She was a mother and homemaker.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church at Primrose.

Survivors include a son, John L. Bowers of St. Edward; a daughter, Judith K. (Mrs. Ron) Kruse of Dekalb, Ill.; two grandchildren; and three sisters, Olga Primrose, Lillian Morse and Vivian Borders, all of Albion.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Carole Bowers; two brothers, Elmer and Francis "Fritz" Johnson; four sisters, Edith and Agnes Johnson (in childhood), Esther (Mrs. George R.) Primrose and Margaret Johnson.

Rosie Chalupa

SARGENT -- Rosie Lucille Chalupa, 83, of Sargent, died Tuesday, March 7, 2000, at her home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sargent. The Rev. Bernard Berger will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Rhoad Funeral Home of Sargent is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.

Mrs. Chalupa was born icon March 13, 1916, to Frank Martin and Barbara Rosie (Slegel) Brim near Sargent.

She attended school at Roe Grove country school. She graduated from Sargent High School in 1934. The next few years she taught rural country schools.

On May 22, 1944, she married Edward August Chalupa in Sargent.

They lived on a farm east of Sargent for the first three years. In 1947 they moved to the Brim homestead northeast of Sargent. They lived there until moving to town in 1997.

She was a member of St. Mary's Altar Society, Senior Citizens of Sargent, and past member of Better Homemakers Extension Club.

She enjoyed crafts, gardening and card club.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Richard of Muncie, Ind. and Donald of Columbus, Ohio; one daughter, Carolyn (Mrs. Dennis) Buckbee of Lincoln; five grandchildren; one brother, Frank Brim of Sargent; two sisters, Alice (Mrs. Leonard) Chalupa of Sargent and Lorraine (Mrs. Ralph) Scott of Ansley.

She was preceded in death by a granddaughter and two infant brothers.

Leroy Nelson

ST. EDWARD -- Leroy Dale Nelson, 76, of St. Edward died Wednesday, March 8, 2000, at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at United Methodist-Presbyterian Church in St. Edward. The Revs. Edward Gill and Frank Baumert will officiate. Burial will be in St. Edward Catholic Cemetery, with military rites conducted by Crosier American Legion Post 226 of St. Edward.

Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Miller-Levander Funeral Home in St. Edward. Visitation will continue at the church at 7 p.m. Sunday, with a 7:30 p.m. rosary, then resume from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. Monday at the church.

Iola Rice

CHAPMAN -- Iola M. Rice, 86, of Chapman died Thursday, March 9, 2000, at Tiffany Square Care Center in Grand Island.

Services are pending with Kleine Funeral Home in Grand Island.

Opal Bieber

LINCOLN -- Opal Fay Bieber, 79, of Lincoln, formerly of Grand Island, died Tuesday, March 7, 2000, at the St. Elizabeth's Regional Medical Center in Lincoln.

Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home in Grand Island. Mrs. Bieber was cremated. There will be no visitation.

Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association.

Mrs. Bieber was born icon May 23, 1920, to Hernon S. and Grace G. (Crawford) Fay in Madrid. She was educated in Grand Island.

She married Fred P. Bieber. She was employed as a waitress in private clubs in Grand Island, including the Elks Club.

She was a member of the BPO Does Auxiliary.

Survivors include three sons, Dean Hayward of Phillips, Don Bieber of Canon City, Colo., and John Bieber of Lincoln; two daughters, Ardyne (Mrs. Keith) Allyn of North Platte and Billie Olsen of Macon, Ga.; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one brother, Willis Fay of Henderson, Nev.

She was preceded in death by her husband.

'Cookie' Paro

OSHKOSH -- Cathleen "Cookie" Joyce Paro, 51, of Oshkosh died Wednesday, March 8, 2000, at the Gordon County Hospital in Oshkosh.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Holechek Funeral Home in Oshkosh. The Rev. Brenda Pfeifly will officiate. Services will conclude at the funeral home. A private burial will be at a later date.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the Oshkosh Rescue Unit.

Mrs. Paro was born icon Jan. 20, 1949, to Arthur D. and Katherine (Muniz) Ellis at Maui, Hawaii. A few months after she was born, the family moved to Grand Island. She grew up there, attended grade school and graduated from Grand Island Central Catholic High School.

She married Richard Allan Paro in 1989 at Oshkosh. They lived nine and a half miles south of Oshkosh on Highway 27, where they had lived there ever since.

She enjoyed her home and family, collecting antiques and good 50s music.

Survivors include her husband and two sons, Jason of Monte Vista, Colo., and Adam of Oshkosh.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents and father.

Stella Peters

OMAHA -- Stella Peters, 86, of Omaha, formerly of Loup City, died Wednesday, March 8, 2000, at the Burgan Mercy Care Center in Omaha.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the St. Josaphat's Catholic Church. Burial will be at the Evergreen Cemetery in Loup City.

Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Higgins Funeral Home in Loup City with a sodality rosary at 4 p.m. Visitation will continue from 6 to 9 p.m. at St. Josaphat's Catholic Church with a vigil service at 7:30 p.m.

Higgins Funeral Home in Loup City is in charge of arrangements.
