Evelyn Daubert

LINCOLN -- Evelyn Daubert, 76, of Littleton, Colo., died Tuesday, March 7, 2000, at her home.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, at Grace Presbyterian Church in Littleton, Colo. Arrangements were by Chapel Hill Mortuary.

She was married to Fred Daubert, who preceded her in death. The family had lived in Grand Island starting in the 1940s until 1967 when they moved to Colorado.

Survivors include one daughter, Carolyn (Mrs. Jim) Beltzer of San Francisco, Calif.; two sons, Jim and John Daubert of Lincoln; six grandchildren: two great-grandchildren; one sister, Gladys Holt of Las Animas, Colo.; and one brother, John Anderson of Sacramento, Calif.

Vilas Smith

Vilas Smith, 90, of Grand Island, formerly of Sioux City, Iowa, died Monday, March 6, 2000, at the Aurora Memorial Hospital.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Nelson-Berger Funeral Home in Sioux City, Iowa. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery at Sioux City.

Survivors include one son, Gene Smith of Grand Island; one daughter, Carol Brown of Aurora; six grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Budd; and two sisters, Evelyn Rogers and Laveda Sternberger.

Helen Bowers

ALBION -- Helen E. Bowers, 92, of Albion died Tuesday, March 7, 2000, at the Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center in Albion.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Levander Funeral Home in Albion. The Rev. Raymond Avidano will officiate. Burial will be in Dublin Cemetery in Primrose.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Rosie Chalupa

SARGENT -- Rosie Lucille Chalupa, 83, of Sargent died Tuesday, March 7, 2000, at her home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sargent. The Rev. Bernard Berger will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m., with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., Thursday at Rhoad Funeral Home.

Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.

'Tek' Lewandowski

LOUP CITY -- Teckla D. "Tek" Lewandowski, 92, of Loup City died Monday, March 6, 2000, at the Rose Lane Home in Loup City.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Josaphat's Catholic Church in Loup City. The Rev. Reginald A. Urban will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Loup City.

Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church with a sodality rosary at 4 p.m. and a vigil service at 7:30 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.

Mrs. Lewandowski moved to the Rose Lane Home on April 30, 1998.

Survivors include two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Alfred and Carl Krolikowski, both of Loup City.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry; one daughter, Yvonne Lebsock; four brothers, Clarence, Tony, Don and Leonard Krolikowski; and four sisters, Wanda Bendykowski, Adelaide Larchick, Clara Krolikowski and Alice Krolikowski.

'Dale' Nelson

ST. EDWARD -- Leroy "Dale" Nelson, 76, of St. Edward died Wednesday, March 8, 2000, at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha.

Services are pending with Miller-Levander Funeral Home in St. Edward.

Opal Bieber

LINCOLN -- Opal L. Bieber, 79, of Lincoln, formerly of Grand Island, died Tuesday, March 7, 2000, at St. Elizabeth's Regional Medical Center in Lincoln.

Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home in Grand Island.

Mrs. Bieber was cremated. There will be no visitation.

Carl Geist

NORTH PLATTE -- Carl "Tuner" Geist, 90, of North Platte died Wednesday, March 8, 2000, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church. The Rev. David Lux will officiate. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Grand Island with the Rev. Onamae Waddel officiating.

Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and before service time Saturday at Odean Colonial Chapel in North Platte.

Memorials are suggested to the Masonic-Eastern Star Home for Children or the Shriner's Crippled Children's Transportation Fund.

Mr. Geist was born icon on Feb. 28, 1910, at Lincoln to Jacob and Marie Adler Geist. His family lived in Hastings and Walla Walla, Wash., for a short time before moving to Grand Island.

After completing school, Mr. Geist played professional baseball in the Nebraska State League and worked for the Union Pacific Railroad in the off-season. He later worked for the railroad full time in Omaha and Grand Island before moving to North Platte in 1956. He retired from Union Pacific in 1975.

He married Claudia Margaret Alexander on July 17, 1937, in Grand Island.

The couple enjoyed fishing and camping and spent seven winters in McAllen, Texas.

He was a member of Platte Valley Lodge 32.

Survivors include a daughter, Carmella (Mrs. Gene) Scarborough of Grand Island; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Richard Geist of Grand Island; and a sister, Rose Remick of Knoxville, Tenn.

He was preceded in death by his wife; three brothers, Jack, Ben and Herman Geist; and three sisters, Lorraine Hopkins, OLinda Murphy and Esther Geist.

Connie Huse

BLAIR -- Connie Huse, 45, of Blair died Saturday, March 4, 2000, in Blair.

Services were on Wednesday at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Blair. Burial was in Holy Cross Cemetery in Blair.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home of Blair was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Huse was born icon on Oct. 9, 1954, in Fullerton to Leo and Ruth (Paprocki) Zywiec. She graduated from Fullerton High School in 1972.

She married Gary Huse on May 28, 1976, in Fullerton. She started working for Godfather's Pizza in 1977 and became owner 10 years ago.

She was a member of St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church and the Blair Area Chamber of Commerce.

Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Carrie (Mrs. Jon) Stewart of Blair; a son, Kyle of Blair; a granddaughter; her parents, of Fullerton; a sister, Susan (Mrs. Don) Urkoski of Silver Creek; and a brother, Glen Zywiec of Fullerton.

Shirley Zabka

MILFORD -- Shirley J. Zabka, 61, of Milford, formerly of Albion, died Monday, March 6, 2000, at her home.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at the United Church of Christ in Albion. The Rev. Mary Avidano will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Albion.

Levander Funeral Home in Albion is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Zabka was born icon on Sept. 10, 1938, at Reynolds to Edward David and Ruth Grace (Simpson) Kinzie. She attended Beaver Crossing public schools and graduated from Beaver Crossing High School in 1956.

She enlisted in the U.S. Navy and worked at a hospital in San Diego. After her discharge, she moved to Albion and worked at the Boone County Hospital. She later moved to Council Bluffs and continued her nursing career. She lived in Columbus and earned her cosmetology license. She moved to Milford, where she started her own beauty shop. She later worked at Shop EZ.

Survivors include two daughters, Patricia (Mrs. Kenneth) Bethune of Carroll and Theresa (Mrs. Michael) Mumaugh of Milford; one son, John Morris of Evans, Colo.; 11 grandchildren; and two sisters, Joyce (Mrs. Carroll) Anderson of Albion and Ruby Morris of Newman Grove.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, David Edward "Bud" Kinzie.

Anna Hackstock

AUBURN, Wash. -- Anna Matilda Hackstock, 105, of Auburn, Wash., formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, March 4, 2000, at the Auburn Care Home.

Memorial services will be in Auburn and at a later date in Fort Morgan, Colo.

Mrs. Hackstock was born icon on Nov. 3, 1894, in Platte County to Peter C. and Ane M. Peterson.

She married George Hackstock in 1919. They farmed near Cedar Rapids until 1939, when the family moved to Fort Morgan, Colo.

Survivors include one son, Charles Robert of Augusta; one daughter, Ellen Jean Wells of Auburn; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Mildred (Mrs. Alfred) Peterson of Scotia; and nieces and nephews in Central Nebraska, Faith Sautter and David Peterson, both of Grand Island, Margaret Zaruba and Maurice, Betty and Edwin Cox, all of Cedar Rapids, Corinne Howe and Douglas Peterson, both of Kearney, Dr. George Baker of Ord and Stuart Baker of Ericson.

She was preceded in death by her husband; two sons, Paul and George; three sisters; five brothers; and one foster brother.

Dr. Robert Holland Jr.

LUBBOCK, Texas -- Dr. Robert Ellsworth Holland Jr., 82, of Lubbock, Texas, formerly of Grand Island, died Monday, March 6, 2000, in Lubbock.

Services will be on Friday in Lubbock and at 10 a.m. Monday at the First Presbyterian Church in Lincoln. The Rev. Raymond Larson will officiate. Burial will be in Wyuka Cemetery in Lincoln.

Roper and Sons Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Dr. Holland was born icon on Jan. 22, 1918, at North Platte to Robert E. Sr. and Susan Marea (Brodboll) Holland. He graduated from Jackson High School in Lincoln in 1935. He earned his medical degree from the University of Nebraska.

He completed his residency in psychiatry at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Houston and a course in medical administration at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Topeka, Kan. During his tenure with the VA, Dr. Holland served at hospitals in Waco, Texas; Northampton, Mass.; Chillicothe, Ohio; and Leavenworth, Kan.

He later became chief of staff at the Veterans Administration Outpatient Clinic in Lubbock. He was also an adjunct professor at Texas Tech University and had been in private practice in Grand Island for 10 years.

During World War II, Dr. Holland was commissioned in the U.S. Army with a final rank of major.

He married Viola Elizabeth Dougherty on June 3, 1945, in Wheatley, Oxford County, England.

He was a member of Rotary International and the First Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Joan Marie Holland and Patricia Ann Holland, both of Chapel Hill, N.C.; two sons, Robert Ellsworth Holland III of Lubbock and Richard Scott Holland of Lincoln; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Dr. Kenneth Eugene Holland Sr. of Lincoln and David Bruce Holland of Prairie Village, Kan.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred (Holland) Allaway.

Anne Kehm

ELBA ­ Anne F. Kehm, 89, of Elba, died Sunday, March 5, 2000, at the Grand Island Veterans Home.

Services are pending with Peters Funeral Home of St. Paul.
