Stanley Pallas

LAWRENCE -- Stanley J. Pallas, 72, of Lawrence died Thursday, March 2, 2000, at the Good Samaritan Center in Nelson.

A rosary will be at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lawrence. A mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church. Monsignor Ivan Vap and the Revs. Gerald Vap and Dennis Hunt will officiate. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery east of Lawrence.

Memorials are suggested to the Lawrence Volunteer Fire Department or the family.

Merten-Butler Mortuary of Blue Hill is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Pallas was born icon Feb. 5, 1928, to Joseph and Marie (Mazour) Pallas in Deweese. He attended Nelson High School.

He married Joan M. Vap on June 20, 1950, in Hastings. He worked for the Nuckolls County Department of Roads, retiring in 1978.

He was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, Lawrence Volunteer Fire Department, 26 years of which he also served as the secretary/treasurer, Lawrence Village Board and Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife; four sons, Mike of Omaha, Ben of Hastings, Gary of Vancouver, Wash., and Tim of Stromsburg; three daughters, Jolene Cerveny of Liberty, Mo., Pam Arbogast of Lawrence and Laura Dexter of Grand Island; one sister, Frances Horinek of Atwood, Kan.; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, LeAnn Goff, one grandson, one brother, Joe and one sister, Mary Souchek.

Ina Rothfuss

Ina L. Rothfuss, 87, of Grand Island died Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000, at St. Francis Memorial Health Center.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Salvation Army Church, 705 N. Sycamore St. Capt. Richard Trimmel will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.

Memorials are suggested to the Grand Generation Center or the Salvation Army.

Mrs. Rothfuss was born icon on Oct. 27, 1912, at Harlan, Iowa, to John and Grace (Dean) Lyon. She graduated from Harlan public schools in 1930. She attended Grand Island Business College in 1930 and 1931.

She married Raymond Larsen on March 11, 1931, in McCook. The couple lived in Grand Island. She worked with Fairmont Creamery from 1936 to 1940, Twin Rivers from 1940 to 1943 and the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant from 1943 to 1946. Mr. Larsen died in 1959. She graduated from Kearney State College in 1963 with a bachelor's in education. She taught first grade at Lincoln Elementary School from 1963 until retiring in 1978.

She married Albert Rothfuss on April 3, 1964, in Grand Island. She obtained her master's in education in 1972. After retiring, she tutored children and adults. Mr. Rothfuss died in 1989.

In addition to more than 600 hours of volunteer work, Mrs. Rothfuss was past president of the Akita Club, Business and Professional Women, Roberta Rice Guild and AARP and TRIAD. She was a dual member of the Laura May Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star No. 251 and treasurer of the Women's Home League. She was involved in the Salvation Army, Grand Generation Center and served on the Hall County Advisory Board. She was also an officer for the Association of Retired Teachers.

Her hobbies included writing poetry; collecting dolls, bells and salt and pepper shakers; playing the piano and organ; and traveling.

Survivors include a son, Melvin Larsen of Sedona, Ariz.; four daughters, Marilyn (Mrs. William) Meyer of Kearney, Shirley (Mrs. Richard) Buettner of Chesapeake, Va., LaVonne (Mrs. Ronald) Buettner of Lexington and Patsy (Mrs. R.J. Jack Jr.) Buettner of Denver; 29 grandchildren; 64 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Jean Van Oeffelen of Muskegon, Mich.

Other than her husbands, she was preceded in death by two great-grandchildren, three brothers and two sisters.

Rev. Robert Foster

GREELEY -- The Rev. Robert Foster, 79, of Greeley, a retired priest of the Grand Island Diocese, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2000, at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha of complications following heart surgery.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Greeley. Burial will be in the O'Connor Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., with rosaries at 4 and 7 p.m., Wednesday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to the Grand Island Diocesan Priests Pension Fund.

T.J. Finn and Sons Funeral Home in Greeley is in charge of arrangements.

The Rev. Foster was born icon on March 16, 1920, at O'Connor to James and Elizabeth (McSharry) Foster. He graduated from St. Joseph's Academy at O'Connor and St. John's Seminary at Little Rock, Ark.

He was ordained on June 5, 1947, at St. Mary Cathedral in Grand Island and celebrated his first Mass on June 8, 1947, at the Church of the Visitation in O'Connor. He served as assistant at Loup City, O'Connor and Blessed Sacrament in Grand Island. He was temporary administrator at Hemingford. In February 1951, he was appointed administrator of St. Patrick's in Eddyville and St. John Capestran's Mission in Amherst, where he was later pastor.

He was appointed pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes in Ravenna on Feb. 1, 1957; St. Patrick's in Chadron on Aug. 2, 1959; and St. Pius X in Ainsworth and its missions of Sacred Heart at Wood Lake and St. Agnes at Norden on April 28, 1962.

He was appointed dean of the Valentine Deanery on May 13, 1966, and served on the Grand Island Diocesan Priests Senate and the diocesan personnel board. He was appointed pastor of St. Nicholas in Valentine on June 10, 1965, and also served as pastor at Nenzel.

The Rev. Foster served as pastor at Loup City from 1973 to 1976, when he was appointed pastor at St. Mary's Cathedral in Grand Island. He stayed at the cathedral until retiring on July 1, 1987.

He returned to O'Connor to care for his eldest brother, James.

He was a fourth-degree Knight of Columbus. He celebrated his 50th anniversary as a priest on June 15, 1997, at the Church of the Visitation.

Survivors include one brother, Joe Foster of Greeley.

He was preceded in death by five brothers, James, Stephen, Tom, Dick and John; and six sisters, Mary, Rita, Anna Welch, Betty, Fran and Rose Hector.

Margie Oswald

AURORA -- Margie Marie Oswald, 93, of Aurora died Monday, Feb. 28, 2000, at the Hamilton Manor.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Pleasant View Bible Church in Aurora. The Rev. Paul Nauman will officiate. Burial will be in the Aurora Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Higby Mortuary in Aurora.

Mrs. Oswald was born icon on Sept. 28, 1906, at Gridley, Ill., to the Rev. Eugene R. and Mary (Gundy) Augspurger. Her family moved to Aurora in 1923. She graduated from Aurora High School in 1925. She attended York College for two years and summer school at Nebraska Wesleyan University. She taught in rural schools for several years.

She married Earl J. Oswald on Dec. 23, 1934. They lived on a farm west of Aurora. He died in 1983. She moved to Hamilton Manor in 1994.

Mrs. Oswald was a member of Pleasant View Bible Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years.

Survivors include two sons, Ronald E. Oswald of Modesto, Calif., and James P. Oswald of Aurora; one daughter, Kerry Sue Twist of Hillsboro, Ore.; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; one brother, A. Paul Augspurger of Fallbrook, Calif.; and two sisters, Zola M. Springer of Aurora and Zelda A. Rowe of California.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Ivo, Virgil and George.

Della Petersen

AURORA -- Della Gertrude Petersen, 91, of Aurora died Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000, at Memorial Hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the United Lutheran Church in Hampton. The Rev. Shari Duminy will officiate. Burial will be in the Aurora Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Higby Mortuary in Aurora.

Miss Petersen was born icon on Sept. 24, 1908, in Aurora to Ola Thorvald and Anna Marie (Nelsen) Petersen. She grew up near Aurora. She attended District 79 School and graduated from Hampton High School in 1926. She helped her parents on the farm for several years.

She worked at the Farmers Union Creamery for 35 years and also cared for her parents in their later years. She had lived in Aurora since 1954.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Hampton. She attended the Danish church north of Hampton, which was moved to Stuhr Museum in Grand island.

She was a member of the Better Homes Extension Club and held various offices. She was also a member of the local AARP chapter.

Survivors include one brother, Arnold Petersen of Loveland, Colo.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Verden.

Kalyssa Ruge-Stafford

ALDA -- Kalyssa Lea Ruge-Stafford, infant daughter of Crystal Ruge and Larry Stafford of Alda, died at birth Feb. 18, 2000.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Kleine Funeral Home. The Rev. Jim Keyser will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the Kalyssa Lea Memorial Fund.

Survivors include her parents of Alda; her grandparents, Leslie and Roma Ruge of Alda, Vern McGee of Hastings and Hazel Stafford of Salt Lake City; and great-grandparents, LaVerne and Dorothy Cline and Verla McGee of Hastings, Roy and Barbara Ruge of St. Libory and William and Lois Parmenter of Farmerville, La.

She was preceded in death by one great-grandfather, Phillip Stafford.

Arlen Bourn

OMAHA -- Arlen George Bourn, 63, of Omaha, formerly of Belgrade, died Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000, at his home.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Richard's Catholic Church in Omaha. The Rev. Ken Vivrana will officiate.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary, Thursday at the church.

Additional services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Palmer Funeral Home in Fullerton. The Rev. Larry Phillips will officiate. Burial will be in the Main Cemetery at Belgrade.

Visitation in Fullerton will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Adam Larson

LEXINGTON -- Adam Patrick Larson, 19, of Lexington died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2000, at Fort Benning, Ga., following a fall during a training exercise at basic training for the U.S. Army.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Ann's Catholic Church. The Rev. Tom Mullowney will officiate. Burial with military honors will be in the Overton Cemetery.

A wake service will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the church. There will be no visitation. Reynolds-Love Funeral Home of Lexington is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials are suggested to the Boy Scouts in Lexington.

Mr. Larson was born icon on Oct. 20, 1980, at Faribault, Minn., to William C. and Marjorie Ann (Kearney) Larson. As a boy, he moved with his family from Minnesota to Texas and then to Nebraska. He graduated from Overton High School in 1999.

He played football for Overton High School. He never missed a Nebraska football game and even attended the Orange Bowl with his father when he was younger. He was a fan of the Notre Dame, Minnesota Vikings and Dallas Cowboys football teams.

He was very active in the Boy Scouts program at Lexington. The summer before he went into the Army, he worked at Camp Augustine at Grand Island, where he had worked three summers before that.

He was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church, an altar server and a eucharistic minister.

Survivors include his mother, of Lexington; one brother, Sean Larson of Lexington; one sister, Elizabeth Larson of Lexington; and grandparents, John "Jack" and Marge Kearney of Lexington and Clarence "Shorty" and Jean Larson of Overton.

He was preceded in death by his father.
