Jaime Salcido-Duran

FREMONT -- Jaime Salcido-Duran, 24, of Fremont died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2000, as the result of an auto accident west of North Bend on Highway 30.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Fremont. The Rev. Carl Zoucha will officiate. Burial will be in Panteon Municipal Cemetery at Alvaro Obregon, Chihuahua, Mexico.

Moser Memorial Chapel of Fremont is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Salcido-Duran was born icon on Oct. 4, 1975, at Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico, to Cipriano and Carmen Duran de Salcido. He grew up in Mexico and moved to Fremont in 1996.

Survivos include his parents; three brothers, Ramon, Rigo and Rogelio; three sisters, Clara Salcido de Eguiarte, Sylvia Salcido de Gomez and Lizbeth Salcido Duran; and a special friend, Ivette Orozco, all of Fremont.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Howard Sautter

SYRACUSE -- Howard E. Sautter, 74, of Syracuse died on Monday, Feb. 28, 2000, at Community Memorial Hospital in Syracuse.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church in Syracuse. The Rev. Duane Westing will officiate. Burial will be in Park Hill Cemetery at Syracuse. Private family graveside services will be before the memorial services. Military rites will be by American Legion Massie-Richards Post 100 of Syracuse.

Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Fusselman-Wymore-Marshall Funeral Home in Syracuse.

Memorials are suggested to the church or the Kidney Research Foundation.

Mr. Sautter was born icon on March 3, 1925, at Scotia to Henry and Edna (Siekman) Sautter.

He married Betty Luse on June 6, 1949, at Lincoln. They lived at Benkelman, McCook and Pawnee City before moving to Syracuse in 1968. He was a soil scientist and soil conservationist.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, church choir, Lions Club, CIP, Syracuse Foundation and American Legion Massie-Richards Post 100, all of Syracuse; and the Nebraska City Apple Corps Barbershop Chorus.

He was an avid gardener and fisherman and enjoyed woodworking.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Mike of Grand Island, Steve of Littleton, Colo., and Don of Northridge, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ed of Storrs, Conn., and Chet of Bella Vista, Ark.; and two sisters, Hazel Tuma of Crete and Mary (Mrs. Clayton) Lukow of Holstein.

He was preceded in death by one brother, John.

Ethel Schow

O'NEILL -- Ethel Schow, 95, of O'Neill, formerly of the St. Paul and Central City areas, died Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000, at the O'Neill Nursing Center.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in St. Paul. The Rev. Thomas G. Hyde will officiate. Burial will be in Fairdale Sunrise Cemetery north of St. Paul.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday at Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul.

Memorials are suggested to the Central City United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Schow was born icon on Jan. 7, 1905, on the family farm near Clarks to Elmer and Anna (Bending) Cowell. She was raised in Merrick County. She attended District 33 and District 50 rural schools before going to Central City High School. She then lived in Central City.

She married Andrew Schow on Sept. 18, 1939, in Central City. The couple lived and farmed in the Fairdale area north of St. Paul for 33 years. Mr. Schow died on Nov. 2, 1972. Mrs. Schow continued to live on the farm until 1979, when she moved to Central City. She entered the O'Neill Nursing Center in 1998.

She was active in the Fairdale Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school and vacation Bible school for more than 20 years. Her hobby was doing craft work.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Central City. She was a member of the WSCS and the United Methodist Women for 40 years and was a charter member of the WSCS.

Survivors include one sister, Grace Humann of Lincoln.

Other than her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Frank, Roy and Marvin Cowell; and five sisters, Ruby Schow, Alice James, Minnie Overland, Pearl Brings and Margaret.

Peter Shipman

Peter R. Shipman, 95, of the Grand Island Veterans Home died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Messiah Lutheran Church. The Rev. Gretchen Diers will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand island City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.

Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.

Mr. Shipman was born icon on Aug. 13, 1904, in rural Hall County to William and Minnie (Hargens) Shipman. He grew up and attended school in rural Hall County and then worked on the family farm.

He served in the U.S. Army from Sept. 12, 1942, to March 22, 1943. He returned to farming following the service.

Mr. Shipman entered the Grand Island Veterans Home in the early 1950s. He enjoyed working in the ceramics shop at the home.

He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church.

Survivors include two brothers, John Shipman of Falls City and Henry Shipman of Grand Island; and three sisters, Olga Dickman of Palmer, Ann Dickman of Grand Island and Linda Spiehs of Alda.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Albert, Herbert, Harry and Ervin Shipman; and one sister, Alvina Shipman.

Wilma Vodehnal

Wilma A. Vodehnal, 81, of Grand Island died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2000, in the St. Francis Memorial Health Center Skilled Care Unit.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Cathedral. The Rev. Tom Ryan will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7:30 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 5 to 7:30 p.m. and a rosary at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday at the cathedral. The Rev. Jose Chavez will officiate. A Catholic Daughter's rosary will be at 4 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to hospice, St. Francis Medical Center or to the family's choice.

Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Arthur Buss

HASTINGS -- Arthur Herman Buss, 86, of Hastings died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2000, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church with the Rev. Richard A. Kothe officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Blue Hill.

Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials are suggested to the church.

Mr. Buss was born icon on Oct. 10, 1913, in Webster County to John Peter and Anna (Johnson) Buss. He was raised in Webster County.

He served in the U.S. Air Corps from 1942 to 1943.

He married Hedwig C. "Hattie" Scheiding on April 15, 1943, near Rosemont. The couple moved to Adams County that same year, and Mr. Buss farmed until he retired.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and a former trustee. He also was a former volunteer for the Adams County Rural Fire Department.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Iona (Mrs. Fred) Grundmann of Great Falls, Mont.; three sons, Duane Buss of Grand Island and Larry Buss and Roger Buss, both of Hastings; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four sisters, Adeline Goos of Hastings and Leona Ruhs, Evelyn Magarin and Maybel Scheiding, all of Blue Hill; and one brother, Melvin Buss of Hastings.

Llewella Djernes

CENTRAL CITY -- Llewella O. Djernes, 99, of Central City died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2000, at Litzenberg Memorial County Hospital in Central City.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Solt Funeral Home in Central City. The Rev. Debra Tompsett-Welch will officiate. Burial will be in the Central City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the Central City United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Djernes was born icon on March 10, 1900, in Butka to Henry and Armenta (Good) Ehrsam. She attended rural school in north Central Nebraska. She taught for three years in Nebraska and one year in Colorado. She then spent several years caring for people in their homes.

She married Lucas L. Djernes on Aug. 26, 1933, in Kearney. The couple moved near Marquette and moved to a farm near Central City in 1949. They lived there until 1957, when they moved into Central City. Mr. Djernes died on Sept. 27, 1970.

Mrs. Djernes loved gardening, flowers and crocheting.

She was a member of the Central City United Methodist Church and was an honorary member of the church circle.

Survivors include two sons, Edgar of Archer and Lucas Lyle of Central City; one daughter, Melvarae Briseno of Grand Island; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three great-grandchildren, one sister and two brothers.

Rev. Robert Foster

GREELEY -- The Rev. Robert Foster, 79, of Greeley died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2000, at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Greeley. Burial will be in the O'Connor Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., with rosaries at 4 and 8 p.m., Wednesday at the church.

T.J. Finn and Sons Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Ervin Lambert

RAVENNA -- Ervin Lambert, 82, of Ravenna died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2000, at the Good Samaritan Center in Ravenna.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Rasmussen Mortuary in Ravenna. The Rev. Dean Hanson will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery in Ravenna.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary.

Mr. Lambert was born icon on Sept. 16, 1917, at Kearney to George and Celia (Helleriegel) Lambert. He started school at Wolbach and graduated from Kearney High School in 1936. He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad

He married Betty Jane Walters on Nov. 17, 1944. The couple farmed on Coal Chute Road until 1955. Mr. Lambert became well-known in Central Nebraska as a tractor mechanic working for International Harvester. He eventually ran his own business, Erv's Repair.

Mr. Lambert loved to travel, crossing the United States camping and motorcycling for many years.

He was a member of the Salvation Army.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, James of Grand Island and Ervin Jr. of Axtell; two daughters, Dorothy Uhrmacher of Grand Island and Donna Lambert of Ravenna; four grandchildren; two brothers, Stanley of Illinois and George of Kearney; and five sisters, Merna Bise of Ohio, Lois Bise of Utah and Anna May Eickmeier, June Lambert and Audrey Rise, all of Fremont.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
