Patricia Jones
COLUMBUS -- Patricia "Susan" Jones, 80, of Columbus died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2000, at Columbus Community Hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Gass-Haney Funeral Home in Columbus. A family prayer service will be at 9:45 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Douglas Zurek will officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery at Columbus.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church.
Mrs. Jones was born
on March 7, 1919, at Mankato, Minn., to Albert J. and Hester M. (Black) Haller. She grew up in Mankato, Minn., and graduated from high school there in 1938.
She married Robert Jones on Oct. 11, 1940, in Estherville, Iowa. They moved to Sioux Falls, S.D., in 1958 and to Columbus in 1980. She worked at Brodkey's Jewelers as a bookkeeper and sales clerk for 14 years.
Survivors include her husband; one son, Dr. Charles Jones of Knoxville, Tenn.; two daughters, Deborah Kroeger of Columbus and Patricia (Mrs. Scott) Welk of Grand Island; seven grandchildren; and two sisters, Phyllis (Mrs. Jerry) Reynolds of San Diego and Hesther Williams of Bellflower, Calif.
Dale Riggs
DUNNING -- Dale Riggs, 61, of Dunning died Monday, Feb. 28, 2000, at his home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the United Church of Christ in Dunning with the Revs. Tim Pearson and Linda Martin officiating. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.
Memorials are suggested to the church or the Dunning Park Fund.
Mr. Riggs was born
on Aug. 1, 1938, in Arnold to Darwin and Martha C. (Doud) Riggs. He attended school in Dunning and graduated from Dunning High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1963.
He married Jane Hart on Dec. 26, 1962. After he was discharged from the service, the couple moved to Dunning for a short time. They then lived in Broken Bow, where he worked for Wenquist Auto from 1965 to 1982 as a parts man and on-the-road parts salesman.
The couple moved to Dunning in 1983 to take over Riggs Truck and Equipment, which had been owned by Mr. Riggs' father. The couple also owned and operated the Filling Station Bar in Dunning for eight years.
Mr. Riggs was a member of the Broken Bow Elks Lodge, Brewster and Dunning Veterans of Foreign Wars and the United Methodist Church in Broken Bow.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Daniel Riggs of Halsey; two daughters, Stacy Eberle and Teia Springer of Burwell; five grandchildren; and one sister, Kay (Mrs. Lloyd) Anderson of Dunning.
Virginia Wilson
LINCOLN -- Virginia M. Wilson, 70, of Lincoln, formerly of Grand Island, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2000, after a brief illness.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Grand Island City Cemetery with the Rev. Fred Gardner officiating.
Mrs. Wilson was born
on March 10, 1929, in Grand Island to Jacob and Mary (Stroh) Dietrich. She grew up and attended school in Grand Island. She worked for many years as a waitress in the restaurant at the Yancy Hotel. She later moved to Lincoln.
Survivors include a son, Michael Wilson of St. Paul, Minn.; one sister, Elaine Treischman of Grand Island; one brother, Jack Dietrich of Hastings; and a special friend, Doug Weaver of Lincoln.
She was preceded in death by two daughters, Deanna Lynn and Deborah Ann Wilson.
Vera Patro
HOWARD, S.D. -- Vera Marie Patro, 90, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2000, at the Good Samaritan Center in Howard, S.D.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Church. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery in Howard.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., with the family present from 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday at Willoughby Funeral Home in Howard.
Mrs. Patro was born
on Aug. 25, 1909, to Wilhelm and Caroline (Volsch) Stangohr. She attended school in Lake County, S.D., and later in Canova.
She married Ernest Knisley on Oct. 21, 1932, at Pipestone, Minn. They farmed south of Winfred until 1950. She raised a large garden and sold apples from their orchard. She moved to Wahoo in 1950 and worked in the nursing department of the Saunders County Hospital for 23 years.
She married Carl Patro on April 21, 1962, in Wahoo. After retiring in 1974, the Patros bought an acreage north of Howard, where they lived. She again raised a garden and returned to canning and preserving foods. They raised a few animals and enjoyed life in the country until Mr. Patro's health failed. Mrs. Patro moved into Sunrise Terrace Apartments in Howard in 1991.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church.
Her hobbies included gardening and sewing. In Wahoo, she had been a member of the Wahoo Women's Club for more than 20 years, served two terms as chairwoman of the Grace Lutheran LCW and served as noble grand of the Rebekah Lodge in 1962 and 1970. In Howard, she was active in Bible study groups, Ladies Aid, senior citizens activities and 60-plus dinners.
Survivors include two daughters, Peggy (Mrs. Donald) Miller of Chapman and Joy (Mrs. Larry) Glor of Rosemount, Minn.; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by six brothers, William, Joseph, Fred, Albert, Ernest and Frank; and six sisters, Minnie, Meta, Frieda, Mary, Alma and Ida.
Gary Sawyers
DENVER -- Gary Eugene Sawyers, 56, of Denver, formerly of Central City, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2000, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Denver.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Solt Funeral Home in Central City with the Rev. Debra Tompsett-Welch officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the Veterans Cemetery in Denver.
Mr. Sawyers was born
on Jan. 6, 1944, in Central City to Orville and Jean M. (Swanson) Sawyers. He graduated from Central City High School in 1962. He was a drywaller and finisher in Central City and continued his profession after leaving the area. He also served in the U.S. Navy for three years in San Diego.
He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Eagles Club. He enjoyed all sports.
Survivors include his father and stepmother, Orville and Gladys Sawyers of Grand Island; one son, Thomas of Central City; three daughters, Angela (Mrs. Bill) Grimes, Kimberly (Mrs. Jody) Makowski and Mandie Sawyers, all of Central City; seven grandchildren; one sister, Diana Lenhart of Pierson, Iowa; and one brother, Scott Sawyers of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by his mother and one brother, Gordon Sawyers.
Megan Martinez
Megan Sorto Martinez, 2, of Grand Island died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2000, at Children's Hospital in Omaha.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The Rev. Jose Chavez will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m., with a 4 p.m. parish rosary, Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Megan was born
on Nov. 4, 1997, at Grand Island to Juvenal Sorto Ramos and Maria N. Martinez Gomez. She had been in ill health since birth.
Survivors include her parents; one brother, Arlyx at home; paternal grandparents, Paulino Sorto and Ernestine Ramos of Honduras; and maternal grandparents, Maximiliano Martinez and Angela Gomez of Honduras.
Nancy Butler
PALMER -- Nancy S. Butler, 92, of Palmer died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, at the IHS Nursing Center of Palmer.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul. The Rev. Thomas Hyde will officiate. Burial will be at 12:30 p.m. in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the St. Paul Library or the St. Paul United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Butler was born
on Oct. 1, 1907, in Keya Paha County to Joseph and Rosella (Clark) Shirey. When she was 6 weeks old, she moved with her family to a ranch near Palmer. She was educated at Palmer and graduated in 1926.
She married John Burch on April 8, 1930. The couple first lived in Palmer and later operated the County Farm near Central City for a number of years. They then returned to Palmer, where she worked as a telephone operator. She then worked at Lemmerman Hatchery in Palmer. Mr. Burch died in 1957. She then worked for the Coolidge Center in Palmer.
She married Roy Butler on March 4, 1960, at Palmer. The couple lived in Palmer throughout their marriage. She was last employed in the kitchen at Palmer High School. Mr. Butler died in 1971.
Mrs. Butler lived in Palmer until 1980, when she moved to Parkside Plaza in St. Paul. She later moved to the Heritage Living Center at St. Paul. She moved to the IHS Nursing Center at Palmer in August 1997.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church of St. Paul and Royal Neighbors of America Camp 2265 of Palmer.
Survivors include one daughter, Edith (Mrs. Roger) Van Pelt of Dannebrog; two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Grace Prowett of Central City, Muriel Schaver of Lebanon, Ore., and Dorothy (Mrs. Harold) Morris of Palmer.
In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by two grandchildren, two sisters and four brothers.
Clara A. Hogg
SHELTON -- Clara A. Hogg, 93, of Shelton died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, at the Homestead residence in Kearney.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Godberson Mortuary in Gibbon. The Rev. Charles Spence will officiate. Burial will be in the Shelton Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the family.

Dr. Nyel Moss
ARCADIA -- Dr. Nyel H. Moss, 77, of Arcadia died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, at his home.
Dr. Moss was cremated.
Memorial services are pending. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Jim Ondracek
GREELEY -- James Michael "Jim" Ondracek, 60, of Greeley died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, at his home.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Greeley. The Revs. Gerald Carlson, Bob Rooney and John Cook will officiate. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Greeley.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., with rosaries at 4:30 and 7 p.m., Friday at the church.
T.J. Finn and Sons Mortuary of Greeley is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Ondracek was born
on Jan. 28, 1940, at Omaha to Ernest and Mary (Walsh) Ondracek. When he was 5 years old, the family moved to Greeley. He graduated from Sacred Heart School in 1958 and from Creighton University in 1962. He worked for Mutual of Omaha.
He married Betty Koenig in the spring of 1963 at Spalding. Mr. Ondracek had owned and operated Ondracek Insurance Agency since he returned to Greeley in 1963.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Greeley, where he served on the parish council and church board. He was a fourth-degree Knight of Columbus and a past member of the Greeley town board and school board. He was an ambassador to Ak-sar-ben and a member of the Mid-Nebraska Mental Health Board and numerous insurance organizations.
He had coached football, basketball and track at Sacred Heart School. He had coached many Little League baseball and softball teams. He was an avid sports fan and golfer.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Kevin of Lincoln; four daughters, Kelli (Mrs. Rick) Wood of Greeley, Erin Ondracek of Oak Harbor, Wash., Lisa Ondracek of San Mateo, Calif., and Diane Ondracek of Kearney; five grandchildren; one brother, Joe of Beatrice; and two sisters, Mary (Mrs. Bill) Donovan of Oakland and Anne (Mrs. Richard) Rech of Greeley.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
