Clarence Siwinski
ASHTON -- Clarence I. Siwinski, 89, of Ashton died Friday, March 24, 2000, at the Howard County Community Hospital in St. Paul.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Francis Catholic Church in Ashton. The Revs. Larry Coulter and Richard Piontkowski will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church with a 7:30 p.m. parish and Knights of Columbus rosary.
Memorials are suggested at the family's choice.
Peters Funeral Home of Loup City is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Siwinski was born
April 4, 1910, on the family farm north of Ashton to Joseph and Peligia (Goc) Siwinski. He attended Sherman County rural schools and St. Francis Parochial School in Ashton.
In 1930, he started the White Way Service Station and also operated a tank wagon and welding and repair service.
He married Gertrude Budzinski on Nov. 26, 1936, in Omaha. The couple lived in Ashton throughout their married life. He owned and operated Ashton Electric Store for several years and was a salesman for Bowes Seal Fast for a time. He continued to operate White Way Service until 1977 when he turned it over to his sons. From 1975 until his death he was a Dixon Lawnmower sales and repairman.
He enjoyed working, inventing and socializing.
He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, Polish Heritage Center, Ashton Community Club and Knights of Columbus Council No. 1918 of St. Paul.
Survivors include two sons, Jerome and Gary, both of Ashton; one daughter, Diane (Mrs. Gene) Knoefler of Terre Haute, Ind.; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 1991; one son, James; six sisters, Anna Blazey, Josephine Dzingle, Joanna Bonczynski, Mary Jasnoch, Monica Smedra and Theresa Zyntek; and three brothers, Ignatz, Stanley and Frank.
Margaret Curtis
LINCOLN -- Margaret A. Curtis, 58, of Lincoln, formerly of Grand Island, died Saturday, March 25, 2000.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Capital City Christian Church, 7800 Holdrege St., Lincoln.
Butherus, Maser and Love Funeral Home in Lincoln is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested at the family's choice.
Survivors include one son, Thomas Beem of Boulder, Colo.; one daughter, Johanna (Mrs. Scott) Kerns of Lincoln; one granddaughter; and one brother, Jim Briggs of Dallas, Ore.
Rev. Thomas Hepner
SIDNEY -- Thomas E. Hepner, 67, of Sidney, formerly of Grand Island, died Thursday, March 23, 2000, in Sidney.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Third City Christian Church. Ken Alexander will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the Mountain View Christian Camp in Danville, N.Y.
Mr. Hepner was born
on Sept. 27, 1932, in Pottsville, Pa., to George and Ellen Hepner.
He attended school in Pennsylvania. He then moved to Whittier, Calif., where he graduated from high school. He attended Harbor Junior College and also attended and graduated from Pacific Christian College in 1956. While at Pacific Christian College he served as youth minister at the Parkcrest Christian Church. He then received his master's degree in theology from Eastern New Mexico State University.
He moved to Palmer where he served as minister at the First Church of Christ.
He married Sharon Maddox on Jan. 31, 1961, in Palmer.
He served in the ministry in Crane, Texas; Winslow, Ariz., and then started a new church work in Rochester, N.Y.
He moved to Grand Island in November 1981 and served as minister of the Third City Christian Church until 1993. He served as minister at the Christian Church in Sargent from 1993 until 1995. He has then served as minister at the First Christian Church in Sidney from 1995 until the time of his death.
He was a member of the church in Sidney. He also was named an outstanding young man of America and to the Who's Who of America.
Survivors include three sons, Nate of Kearney, Jon of Boonton, N.J., and Dave of Norfolk; one daughter, Rachel (Mrs. Conrad) Potvin of Hull Quebec, Canada; and one grandson.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Robert and one infant sister.
Barbara Baker
LOUP CITY -- Barbara Baker, 83, of Loup City died Tuesday, March 14, 2000 at the Rose Lane Home in Loup City.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Josaphat's Catholic Church in Loup City with the Rev. Reginald A. Urban officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery at Loup City.
Visitation will be from 4 to 5 p.m. Thursday with a 4 p.m. sodality rosary at Peters Funeral Home in Loup City. Visitation will continue from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church, with a 7:30 p.m. vigil service. Memorials are suggested to the Rose Lane Home Alzheimer's Unit.
Ada Blauvelt
HASTINGS -- Ada M. Blauvelt, 59, of Hastings died Sunday, March 12, 2000, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Butler-Volland Chapel in Hastings. The Rev. Larry Gyhra will officiate.
Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association.
Mrs. Blauvelt was born
on Aug. 24, 1940, in North Loup to Hubert J. and Erma (Coplin) Clement. She moved to Hastings with her family at an early age and grew up there. In 1956, she moved to Newton, Iowa, where she graduated from Newton High School.
She moved back to Hastings in 1958.
She married Gary G. Blauvelt on Feb. 7, 1959, in St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Hastings. She lived in Newfoundland while her husband was in the service. She moved to Lincoln in 1961 and back to Hastings in 1964. She worked at Daylight Donuts for more than 25 years.
She was a member of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church.
Survivors include her husband; four daughters, Theresa Jiron of Denver, Deborah Walker of Juniata, Suzanne Barrera of Hastings and Lisa Blauvelt of Sunderland, Germany; two sons, Thomas Blauvelt of Colorado Springs, Colo., and David Blauvelt of Virginia Beach, Va.; six grandchildren; her mother, Erma Behrens of Des Moines, Iowa; and two sisters, Sharon Brue of Norwalk, Iowa, and Thanna Ritter of Des Moines.
She was preceded in death by her father; her stepfather, Mervin F. Behrens; and an infant brother.
Kenneth Fox
CENTRAL CITY -- Kenneth Alfred Fox, 62, of Central City died Tuesday, March 14, 2000, at Litzenberg Memorial County Hospital in Central City.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Solt Funeral Home in Central City.
Mr. Fox was born
on Jan. 4, 1938, in Albion to Leonard and Opal (Johnson) Fox. He grew up and attended school in the Albion area.
He married Carolyn Hill on March 21, 1972, in Grand Island.
Mr. Fox lived in Nebraska most of his life with the exception of several years spent in Texas and Arizona. He moved to Central City in 1995. He was a grain and livestock trucker and had also been a flagman for Atlantic Homes and Bonnavilla Homes.
Mr. Fox was a member of Eagles Lodge 95 in Central City. He enjoyed hunting and woodworking. He had been raised in the Methodist faith.
Survivors include one son, Kenny of Cedar Rapids; three grandchildren; two brothers, Robert of Harvard and Everett of Texas; two sisters, Pauline (Mrs. Wayne) Zurcher of Harvard and Mary Ann Hodges of Oakland, Calif.; and his caregivers, Margie Fox and Carol Fox.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Elmer Gydesen
SCOTIA -- Elmer Gydesen, 93, of Scotia died Tuesday, March 14, 2000, at the Rose Lane Home in Loup City.
Services are pending at Ord Memorial Chapel.
Eileen Ketteler
ALBION -- Eileen Ketteler, 77, of Albion died Tuesday, March 14, 2000, at the Boone County Health Center in Albion.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Albion. The Rev. Frank Baumert will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday at Levander Funeral Home in Albion. Visitation will continue at 6 p.m. at the church with a 7:30 p.m. wake service. Visitation will resume from 8:30 a.m. until service time Friday at the church.
Arthur Senkbeil
AURORA -- Arthur Senkbeil, 95, of Aurora died Monday, March 13, 2000.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Hampton. The Rev. George E. Damm will officiate. Burial will be in Lincoln Memorial Park and Mausoleum.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Higby Mortuary in Aurora.
Mr. Senkbeil was born
on Feb. 13, 1905, in Grand Island to Ernest and Tony (Sass) Senkbeil. He graduated from Grand Island High School in 1922.
He began working in construction in 1923. He worked as a carpenter's apprentice and then worked as a carpenter for most of the contractors in Grand Island. He worked on many construction jobs in Lincoln, Omaha, Grand Island and Cheyenne, Wyo.
Mr. Senkbeil married Eileen Rihder in 1930.
He married Norma Schultz on Nov. 4, 1941, in Sabetha, Kan. He worked as a foreman on jobs in Wyoming, Utah and California. He moved to Lincoln and worked for 10 years at the Air Force base. He moved to Boulder, Colo., in 1964 and worked as a job superintendent until retiring in 1970.
They moved to Osceola, where they bought an old house, remodeled it and then sold it. In 1978, they moved to Johnson Lake, where he did lots of fishing and gardening. They moved to Aurora in 1985. Mrs. Senkbeil died in February 1990.
Mr. Senkbeil was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America for more than 50 years and a Lions Club member for more than 20 years. He was a member of the Platt-Duetsche in Grand Island, AARP and the Aurora Senior Center. He enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include three sons, Richard of Dallas, James of Chapman and Lynn of Lincoln; one daughter, Karen Parrish of Gering; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and his twin sister, Hilda Hubbard of Grand Island.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two sons, Timothy and Robert; and one brother, George.
