Bethel Horky

ST. PAUL -- Bethel D. Horky, 74, of St. Paul died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in St. Paul. The Rev. Larry Lepper will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in St. Paul.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul.

Memorials are suggested to the church or the family's choice.

Mrs. Horky was born icon on March 11, 1925, at Coquille, Ore., to Franklin and Edna (Willias) Albro. She received her early education at Ten Mile, Ore., and attended high school at Camos Valley, Ore.

She married Gilbert A. Horky on Aug. 22, 1943, at North Bend, Ore. The couple first lived in Oregon while he served in the U.S. Navy.

After Mr. Horky's discharge, the couple moved to a Howard County farm west of Farwell in 1945. They lived on the farm until 1979, when they retired and moved into St. Paul. Mr. Horky died on Jan. 8, 1991. Mrs. Horky continued to live in St. Paul.

She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in St. Paul. She enjoyed making quilts for her family and friends, making lap robes for people in nursing homes and hospitals, embroidering, creweling, reading, playing cards and working jigsaw puzzles.

Survivors include one son, John of Overton; two daughters, Elizabeth (Mrs. Melvin) Poss of Scotia and Peggy (Mrs. Timothy) Jones of Kearney; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Alice (Mrs. Courtney) Muetzel of Roseburg, Ore., and Arbutus Rich of Portland, Ore.; and one brother, Chauncey Albro of Great Falls, Mont.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Thomas; and one infant granddaughter.

Jim Ondracek

GREELEY -- James M. "Jim" Ondracek, 60, of Greeley died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, at his home.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Greeley. The Revs. Gerald Carlson, Bob Rooney, Jim Schmitt and John Cook will officiate. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Greeley.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., with rosaries at 4:30 and 7 p.m., Friday at the church.

T.J. Finn and Sons Mortuary of Greeley is in charge of arrangements.

Leonard Rutten

CEDAR RAPIDS -- Leonard Louis Rutten, 68, of Cedar Rapids died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, at the Boone County Health Center in Albion.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. The Revs. Ralph Steffensmeier and Carl Zoucha will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m., with a 7:30 p.m. wake service, Thursday at Levander Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids. Further visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home.

Mr. Rutten was born icon on Nov. 5, 1931, on a farm west of Cedar Rapids to Francis J. and Laura (Zegers) Rutten. He attended St. Anthony's Catholic School from first through sixth grade, when the family moved east of Cedar Rapids. He attended District 50 School for three years and graduated from Cedar Rapids High School in 1949. He farmed with his father and did custom baling for other farms in the area.

He married Bonnie Ewers on Sept. 18, 1954, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. He worked for Cedar Locker. In 1957, the family moved to New Prague, Minn., where Mr. Rutten worked for Hy-Line Hatchery. He worked for National Foods in Wilmer, Minn., in 1958 and was then promoted to meat market manager in Milbank, S.D. He then transferred to Sleepy Eye, Minn.

Mr. Rutten started work for Safeway Foods in Hiawatha, Kan., in 1964. He worked in Hiawatha for 16 years before moving to California. The Ruttens returned to Nebraska in 1988 to retire in Cedar Rapids. Mr. Rutten worked for Cedar Valley Co-op and at Neid's Grocery in Columbus part time.

His hobbies included gardening, cards and playing computer games. He was a third-degree member of Knights of Columbus Council 7889.

Survivors include his wife; six sons, John of Shreveport, La., Joseph of Gladstone, Mo., James of Lenexa, Kan., Jeffery of Windsor, Calif., Jerry of Salem, Ore., and Jay of Rocklin, Calif.; one daughter, Jeannine (Mrs. Tom) Flory of Nortonville, Kan.; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Sylvester of Omaha, Ed of Norfolk and Marvin of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Lorraine Zoucha.

John Schnase

KEARNEY -- John H. Schnase, 69, of Kearney, formerly of Loup City, died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2000, at his home.

Services are pending with Peters Funeral Home of Loup City.

Harold Sydzyik

ORD -- Harold Alexander Sydzyik, 80, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, at his home north of Ord.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Ord. The Rev. Jim Warner will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m., with a rosary at 7:30 p.m., Thursday at Ord Memorial Chapel.

Memorials are suggested to the St. Mary's School Endowment Fund or the church.

Mr. Sydzyik was born icon on Sept. 10, 1919, at Loup City to Andrew and Sophie (Otlewski) Sydzyik. He lived in Loup City for a short time before moving to Arcadia in 1925. He was educated in a rural school in Valley County south of Elyria. He moved to Elyria in 1935 and west of Ord in 1938. He later moved to his farm north of Ord, where he farmed with his brother Joe.

Survivors include one brother, Don of Council Bluffs, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Joe, Anton and Walter; and two sisters, Florence Welniak and Margaret Bialy.

Donald Austin

Donald J. Austin, 58, of Grand Island died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000, at St. Francis Skilled Care Center.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Greeley United Methodist Church with the Rev. Cynthia Altdstadt officiating. Burial will be in the Greeley City Cemetery with military rites by Charles E. Martin Post 186 of Greeley.

Visitation will be before service time Wednesday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Mr. Austin was born icon on March 24, 1941, at Greeley to Ralph E. and Zada E. (Pierson) Austin. He spent his younger years in Greeley, where he attended grade school. The family moved to Grand Island in 1952. He graduated from Grand Island Senior High.

He served in the U.S. Army from June 1960 to June 1963. He then returned to Grand Island, where he lived until his death. He worked in the construction business as a cement finisher. He worked for Titan Security as a security guard at Fonner Park for the past 10 years.

Survivors include three brothers, Lindley E. of Inavale, Ralph E. Jr. of Grand Island and Earl G. of Archer.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Myrtle Danielson

AURORA -- Myrtle Frances Danielson, 97, of Aurora died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000, at Memorial Hospital in Aurora.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Presbyterian United Church of Christ in Aurora. The Revs. Cathy Allen and Monty Nelson will officiate. Burial will be in the Aurora Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Higby Mortuary in Aurora.

Mrs. Danielson was born icon on Jan. 8, 1903, at Hampton to Frank and Anna (Larsen) Anderson. She grew up in Hamilton County and attended District 51 School. She attended high school in Aurora.

She married David W. Danielson on Feb. 24, 1921, in Lincoln. They lived in Lincoln for a year and spent the rest of their married life farming in Hamilton County. Mr. Danielson died in August 1967.

Mrs. Danielson was a 61-year member of the Presbyterian United Church of Christ, where she was involved with Ladies Aid. She was a longtime member of the HEO Club and American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed teaching younger children music and crocheting. She also enjoyed gardening and bird-watching.

Survivors include a son, Dr. D. Murray Danielson of North Platte; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Bessie Meguire and Mabel Matson; and one brother, Harlan Anderson.

Donald Duncan

NORTH PLATTE -- Donald LeRoy Duncan, 56, of North Platte died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000, at the NHS University Hospital in Omaha.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Bethel Evangelical Free Church in North Platte with Pastors Noah Palmer and Albert Neufeld officiating. Burial will be in the Hemingford Cemetery with military honors by Hemingford American Legion Post 9.

Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., with the family greeting friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Tuesday at Odean Colonial Chapel in North Platte.

Memorials are suggested to the church or to organ transplant research.

Mr. Duncan was born icon on July 27, 1943, in Alliance to Calvin and Mildred (Osborn) Duncan. He grew up on a farm 17 miles north of Hemingford and graduated from Hemingford High School in 1963. He served in the U.S. Army from 1963 to 1966.

After his discharge, he worked for Missouri Valley Construction Co. in the North Platte area, building bridges on Interstate 80. He later returned to the Hemingford area to work.

He married Mina Jean Hawthorne on Aug. 23, 1968, in Chadron. The couple lived in Grand Island from 1970 to 1979. He worked for Kinman Chevrolet as a mechanic. In 1979, the couple moved to North Platte, where Mr. Duncan worked for the Union Pacific Railroad as a roadway mechanic in the maintenance of way department.

He was a member of Bethel Evangelical Free Church in North Platte and had served as deacon. He also was a member of American Legion Post 9 in Hemingford.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Donelle Breitenfeldt and Heidi Duncan, both of North Platte; one grandson; his mother, Mildred Duncan Mazanec of Alliance; and three brothers, Bob Duncan of Hemingford, Gary Duncan of Denver and Roger Mazanec of Alliance.

He was preceded in death by his father; his stepfather, George Mazanec; and two infant brothers, Darren and Dean Duncan.

Patricia Wall

OMAHA -- Patricia Sue Daniel Wall, 63, of Omaha, formerly of Fremont, died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000, at Methodist Hospital in Omaha.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Rozanck and Son Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Andrew Wright of St. James Episcopal Church of Fremont officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Mrs. Wall was born icon on June 12, 1936, in Fremont to Eugene and Myrtle Daniel.

She married Beauford "B.J." Wall on June 15, 1963, in Fremont. The couple lived in North Platte, Ogallala and Grand Island. They settled in Omaha in 1986. She was a homemaker and speech therapist in the Fremont public schools.

She was a member of St. James Episcopal Church.

Survivors include one son, Todd Wall of Hallam; one grandson; one sister, Nancy (Mrs. Bob) Wennstedt of Fremont; and one brother, Verne Daniel of North Platte.

She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.
