Marcine Pipal

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. -- Marcine Mildred Marie Pipal, 72, of Palm Springs, Calif., formerly of Grand Island and Hastings, died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000, at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul of the Desert Episcopal Church in Palm Springs with the Rev. Andrew Green officiating. Burial will be in Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside with the Rev. Fred Davis officiating.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Palm Springs Mortuary in Cathedral City.

Memorials are suggested to the Scleroderma Foundation.

Mrs. Pipal was born icon on June 13, 1927, in Cottonwood, S.D., to Roger and Rena Peterson.

She retired after 20 years as an accountant for General Motors. She worked in Nebraska for Hi-Way GMC and Johnson Cashway Lumber, both in Grand Island, and KHAS radio in Hastings.

She was a member of the Episcopal Church, the Does, Eagles Auxiliary, Andrew Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and American Legion Auxiliary. She was an enrolled member of the Ogalala Sioux tribe on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota.

Survivors include her husband, Dwayne; three sons, Max Eckert of Los Angeles, Richard Pipal of Arizona and Robert Pipal of Minnesota; two daughters, Mary Eckert of Palm Springs and Marcia Posnikoff of Palm Desert; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, James Peterson of Arizona; and five sisters, Virginia Barnes of Michigan, Eileen Brooks of Palm Springs and Berdyne Parsons, Beatrice Ramsey and Dorcas Cameron, all of South Dakota.

Kristi White

RIDGEWOOD, N.J. -- Kristi Sue White, 27, of Ridgewood, N.J., formerly of Broken Bow, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2000, from injuries suffered in a traffic accident in New Jersey.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow. The Rev. Jim Stark will officiate. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary.

Miss White was born icon on Feb. 22, 1972, at Callaway to Dennis and Connie (Anderson) White. She grew up in Broken Bow and graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1990. She then attended Bahner Cosmetology School in Grand Island.

After graduating in 1991, she moved to New Jersey. She was working in sales and membership at the Can Do Fitness Center in Wayne, N.J., where she taught spinning classes. She also worked part time in computer graphic design for Euro-Net Marketing.

She enjoyed running, working out, mountain biking and traveling.

Survivors include her parents, of Broken Bow; a sister, Julie White of Broken Bow; her paternal grandmother, Arlene White of Broken Bow; and her maternal grandparents, Elver and Eula Faye Anderson of McCook.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Vernon White.

Harold Chesnut

Harold R. Chesnut, 82, of Grand Island died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Faith United Methodist Church. The Rev. Richard Karohl will officiate. Private family burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Kleine Funeral Home, with the family receiving friends throughout the afternoon and evening.

Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.

Mr. Chesnut was born icon on June 21, 1917, near Naponee to Guy and Pearl (Davis) Chesnut. He attended District 10 School in Franklin County and graduated from Naponee High School.

He entered the U.S. Army on May 5, 1942, and served overseas during World War II.

He married Dorothy Stower on Jan. 3, 1944, in Ripple, Worcestershire, England. He was discharged on Feb. 27, 1946, and returned to Franklin in March 1946. He moved to Upland and then Wilcox and worked as an electrician/maintenance engineer for all three communities. The family moved to Grand Island in 1979, and he worked as head custodian at Walnut Junior High School until his retirement.

He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed carpentry and remodeling homes. He also enjoyed the outdoors, planting and tending to his flower and vegetable garden.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Carole (Mrs. Gary) Jurgens of Urbandale, Iowa, and Jean Chesnut of Grand Island; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Willis Chesnut of Columbus; and five sisters, Maxine Burton of Denver, Arlene Wohleb of Franklin, Berdena McGhee of Lordsburg, N.M., Erma Burton of Arvada, Colo., and Elaine Guilliams of Vienna, Mo.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Lesley; and one sister, Glada St. Clair.

Donald Hardee

Donald Hardee, 56, of Grand Island died Friday, Feb. 11, 2000, at Omaha.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Church of Christ on Newell in Cozad. The Rev. Roger Sloan will officiate. Burial will be in the Cozad Cemetery with military honors.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad.

A memorial has been established.

Mr. Hardee was born icon on Dec. 4, 1943, at Cozad to Warren and Ethel (Teel) Hardee. He graduated from Cozad High School in 1962 and served in the U.S. Army for three years. He returned to Cozad, where he worked with Allied Mills and Monroe Auto Equipment Co.

He married Linda Wolzen in 1969. He graduated from business college in South Dakota.

He re-enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1973 and was stationed in several states along with tours of duty in Germany and Korea. He served as a telecommunications officer and retired in 1996. He lived in Ravenna and moved to Grand Island in 1998.

He was a member of the Church of Christ on Newell, Disabled American Veterans and National Rifle Association. He enjoyed traveling and fishing and loved the outdoors.

Survivors include two daughters, Heidi (Mrs. Jim) Braden of Kearney and Heather Hardee of Lexington; five brothers, Ivan Harwood of Fayetteville, Ark., Douglas Hardee of Prairie Grove, Ark., Robert Hardee of Ontario, Calif., Dennis Hardee of Gothenburg and Marvin Hardee of Cozad; and a sister, Luella (Mrs. Neal) Foland of Ravenna.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Virginia; and a half brother, Raymond Harwood.

Florence McKenzie

Florence O. McKenzie, 94, of Wedgewood Care Center died Monday, Feb. 14, 2000, at Wedgewood.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Pauls Lutheran Church. The Rev. Joel Schroeder will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.

Memorials are suggested to the Sunday school department at the church.

Albert Quandt

Albert C. Quandt, 63, 3620 Summer Drive, died Monday, Feb. 14, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church. The Rev. Martin Schmidt will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m., with the family greeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.

Memorials are suggested to the church or Trinity Lutheran School.

Venetta Rittenhouse

Venetta J. Rittenhouse, 72, of Grand Island died Monday, Feb. 14, 2000, at Park Place Health Care and Rehab Center.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. The Rev. George Wheat will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 2 to 5 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home.

Ethel Kava

FULLERTON -- Ethel Kava, 83, of Fullerton died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000, at Beverly Healthcare in Fullerton.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Fullerton. The Rev. Don Cleary will officiate. Burial will be in the Fullerton Catholic Cemetery.

Palmer Funeral Home in Fullerton is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Kava was born icon on Dec. 14, 1916, on a farm in Nance County to Frank and Caroline (Lesiak) Knopik. She attended a country school in Nance County.

She married Charles J. Kava on Jan. 31, 1940, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Fullerton. They moved to Omaha, and she was a housewife. They moved to a farm in the Krakow area near Genoa in 1943.

They returned to Omaha in 1954. She worked as a waitress at Johnnie's until 1972, when they moved back to the family farm near Fullerton. She worked as a waitress and cook for four years at Clara's Cafe in Fullerton and then at the Loup River Inn until 1998.

She loved to garden and enjoyed canning. She was very active in St. Peter's Catholic Church and St. Ann's Society.

Survivors include her husband; one son, Richard of Omaha; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; six brothers, Edward and Virgil Knopik, both of Fullerton, Frank Knopik of Lincoln, Richard Knopik of LeMoore, Calif., Louis Knopik of Grand Island and Jerome Knopik of Plattsmouth; and four sisters, Katherine Casey and Rose (Mrs. Carroll) Zaruba, both of Fullerton, Lorraine (Mrs. Darwin) Hamel of Columbus and Mary (Mrs. Ben) Gdowski of York.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Delores Williams; one great-granddaughter; one brother, Lawrence Knopik; and one sister, Elizabeth Stopak.

Vera Andersen

BLOOMFIELD -- Vera Diantha Haught Andersen, 88, of Bloomfield, formerly of Ord, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000, in Creighton Hospital.

Services will be at 1 p.m.. Friday at the First Presbyterian Church in Ord. Burial will be in the Ord Cemetery.

Brockhaus-Scott Funeral Home of Bloomfield is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Andersen was born icon on March 1, 1911, in Olean. She grew up in Ord and graduated from Ord High School in 1928. She was active in school and was a member of Ord's first cheerleading squad.

She married Vernon "Vernie" Albert Andersen on Sept. 11, 1929. They lived in Ord, where she worked for the county. They then purchased the Phillips 66 station in Ord and operated it for many years.

The couple owned and operated the Pine Point Resort in Walker, Minn., from 1958 to 1968. They opened Gramps Drive-In in Plainview in 1973 and ran it until Mr. Andersen died in 1974.

Mrs. Andersen worked for the Farmers Home Administration from 1975 until her retirement in 1981.

She was active in Card Club, Girl Scouts, Eastern Star and Ord's Business and Professional Women.

Survivors include two daughters, Betti (Mrs. Glenn) Moritz of Osmond and Judi (Mrs. Ken) Rideout of Palmer; a son, Dick Andersen of Minneapolis; 12 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one granddaughter.
