Robert Hoch

BASSETT -- Robert C. Hoch, 69, of Bassett died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2000, at the Brown County Hospital.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Bassett with military honors by Bassett American Legion Post 123. The Rev. James Bretzke will officiate. Burial will be in the Bassett Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 a.m. Thursday until service time Friday at Hoch Funeral Home in Ainsworth. A rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Thursday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to the Brown or Rock County Ambulance Associations, the Rock County Senior Center or to the donor's choice.

Mr. Hoch was born icon on May 28, 1930, at Yankton, S.D., to Joseph L. and Anna (Zolnowksy) Hoch.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He married Marlene Helen Schneider on Aug. 22, 1957, in Tyndall, S.D.

Mr. Hoch was a licensed Nebraska funeral director for 36 years. He and Mrs. Hoch purchased Huston Funeral Home in Bassett in 1963 and Wisda Funeral Home in Ainsworth in 1969.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Julie (Mrs. Bruce) Iacobelli of Phoenix and Jaci Hoch of Omaha; a son, Jim Hoch of Ainsworth; two grandchildren; and a brother, Bill Hoch of Tyndall, S.D.

Harold Chesnut

Harold R. Chesnut, 82, of Grand Island died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center.

Services are pending with Kleine Funeral Home in Grand Island.

Elsie Seaman

Elsie M. Seaman, 85, of Grand Island died Friday, Feb. 11, 2000, at Park Place Nursing Home in Grand Island.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Spalding. The Rev. Joe Hannappel will officiate. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery in Spalding.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday with a rosary at 7 p.m. at the Dolce-Scheef Mortuary in Spalding.

Mrs. Seaman was born icon Sept. 20, 1914, at Bartlett to Thomas and Josephine (Hart) Slack.

She married Leo Seaman on Oct. 9, 1939, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Spalding.

Mrs. Seaman worked for many years as a housekeeper in several homes in Spalding. She later worked with her husband as a custodian at Spalding Academy. Mrs. Seaman also worked as a cook at St. John's Hospital, the Spalding Manor and the Villa.

For several years she worked for the Green Thumb Program and for Spalding Enterprises, abstracting vital statistics.

She lived in her own home until health problems moved her to Park Place Nursing Home in Grand Island in 1995.

Mrs. Seaman was a long-time member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and St. Ann's Altar Society. She was an avid gardener and raised flowers as a hobby. She is remembered for her baking skills, quilting and sewing.

Survivors include five daughters, Teresa Seaman, Countryside, Ill.; Mary Seaman of Denver; Anna Ross of Denver; Roberta Seaman of Grand Island; and Rebecca Finney of Charlotte, N.C.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo; one brother; and two sisters.

Edna Benson

ST. EDWARD -- Edna W. Benson, 81, of St. Edward died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000, at Boone County Health Center in Albion.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Palestine Baptist Church near Lindsay. The Rev. Carl Edwards will officiate. Burial will be in Palestine Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Miller-Levander Funeral Home in St. Edward.

Mrs. Benson was born icon May 25, 1918, at Newman Grove to Herman and Anna (Emig) Sivers. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Newman Grove. She attended Platte County School District No. 63 and graduated from Newman Grove High School in 1936.

She married Allen Benson on May 16, 1941, at Newman Grove. The couple lived on a farm northeast of St. Edward and then moved to St. Edward in 1966. She taught at rural schools for nine years and also worked as a homemaker.

Mrs. Benson was a member of the Palestine Baptist Church in rural Lindsay, and the American Baptist Women's group. She was also a member of the St. Edward Senior Center. She enjoyed crocheting, raising chickens and spending time in her vegetable and flower gardens.

Survivors include two sons, Allen Benson of Genoa and Ron Benson of St. Edward; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, who died in 1997, and one brother, Arnold Sivers, who was killed during World War II.

Heather Grim

SARGENT -- Heather Lynne Grim, 24, of Sargent died Friday, Feb. 11, 2000, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

Service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Church of Christ in Sargent with the Rev. Marty Robbins officiating. Burial will be in the Gates Cemetery in Gates.

Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Monday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the family.

Ms. Grim was born icon July 20, 1975, at Sargent to Everett and Betty (McKnight) Grim. She attended school in Sargent.

She attended the Assembly of God Church in Sargent and was baptized in 1992. She later attended the Christian Life Center in Broken Bow.

Ms. Grim married Shane Greene on July 8, 1994. She worked at the Sargent Hospital and the Sargent Nursing Home as a nurse's aide. She also attended CNA classes in Broken Bow.

In 1997 she became ill with primary pulmonary hypertension and could no longer work due to her failing health.

Survivors include a son, Daniel Grim of Sargent; her mother, Betty of Sargent; her father, Everett of Sargent; a sister, Tammy Lovitt of Newman Grove and a brother, Courtney Grim of Sargent; and a stepgrandfather, Slim Allison of Sargent.

She was preceded in death by her grandmothers, Elaine Allison and Eva Grim; and her grandfathers, Charles McKnight and Lowell Grim.

Ethel Kava

FULLERTON -- Ethel Kava, 83, of Fullerton died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000, at Beverly Healthcare in Fullerton.

Service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Fullerton. The Rev. Don Cleary will officiate. Burial will be in the Fullerton Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday with a vigil service at 7 p.m. at the Palmer Funeral Home in Fullerton.

Howard Lough

NEWMAN GROVE -- Howard W. Lough, 82, of Newman Grove, formerly of Albion, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000, at Boone County Health Center in Albion.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Levander Funeral Home. The Rev. Susan Saunders will officiate. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery with military rites conducted by American Legion Post No. 162 and VFW Post No. 736 of Albion.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Levander Funeral Home in Albion.

Mr. Lough was born icon Aug. 24, 1917, at Albion to Frank and Grace (Gill) Lough. He attended Boone County School District No. 2 west of Albion, followed by a trade school in Albion. He enter the U.S. Army and served in Europe during World War II from 1941to 1943.

After his military discharge, Mr. Lough moved to Lincoln where he worked as a baker until 1945.

He married Madeline Walker on Oct. 9, 1947, in Albion. The couple moved to California in 1949 where Mr. Lough worked as a carpenter. He lived in Palo Alto, San Jose and Sunnyvale, Calif., until he moved back to Nebraska in 1991 to the Mid-Nebraska Lutheran Home in Newman Grove.

He was a member of the National Rifle Association, the American Legion and the Marksmanship in California.

Survivors include a daughter, Katherine Hendricks of Shreveport, La.; two sisters, Marie Conrad of Loomis, Calif., and Betty Burch of Flint, Mich.; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Willard and Duane.

Harry Prochaska

PALMER -- Harry F. Prochaska, 88, of Palmer died Friday, Feb. 11, 2000, at the St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the First Church of Christ in Palmer. The Rev. Jerry Quandt will officiate. Burial will be at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Palmer.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Palmer Funeral Home in Palmer.

Memorials are suggest to the First Church of Christ in Palmer, the EMT Rescue Squad of Palmer, Howard County Community Hospital, Nebraska Christian Schools in Central City, or the donor's choice.

Mr. Prochaska was born icon April 21, 1911, to William and Louise (Moravec) Prochaska on the family farm in Gage Valley. He attended District 19 school in Gage Valley and graduated from Palmer High School in 1929. He also attended Nebraska Central College in Central City and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

He married Edith Stone on Sept. 5, 1937. The couple lived in Gage Valley where he farmed until the mid-1960s. He then began working for Doanes Agricultural Services as a real estate broker and an appraiser. Later he worked for Killinger's Real Estate Services. For the past 20 years he served as a securities broker for Farmland Industries.

His wife Edith died in 1968.

Mr. Prochaska married Ellen Sand Greenough of Norfolk on Aug. 18, 1974, in Palmer. They lived in Gage Valley.

He was a member of the First Church of Christ in Palmer where he was a Sunday school superintendent, Church Trustee, chairman of the Church Board, teacher and choir director. He also taught a Sunday school class for many years at the Palmer Nursing Home.

He was active in the Howard County Farm Bureau, served on the Board of Trustees for Nebraska Central College in Central City and Penn College in Oskaloosa, Iowa, as well as the Gage Valley School Board.

Mr. Prochaska's hobbies were gardening, fishing, raising sheep and meeting people.

Survivors include his wife, Ellen of Palmer; one daughter, Patricia Prochaska of Hastings; one sister, Mildred Stone of Palmer; two stepdaughters, Anita Clyde of Norfolk and Mary McKoski of Hickman; two stepsons, William Greenough of Norfolk and Jerald Greenough of Dannebrog; ten stepgrandchildren; and eight stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Edith; one brother, William Prochaska; and one sister, Wilma Coomer.

Marie Church

CENTRAL CITY -- Marie Church, 99, of Central City, formerly of Clarks, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2000, at Litzenberg Memorial County Hospital in Central City.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Solt Funeral Home in Central City. The Rev. Richard Fairbanks will officiate. Burial will be in Pierce Chapel Cemetery near Clarks.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Church was born icon on Aug. 14, 1900, in Hall County to Gehrt A. and Elizabeth (Dorr) Dickman. Her mother died when she was 7, and she was raised by her half sister. They lived in Merrick County, and she attended Pleasant Hill School. After her education, she continued to live and work on the family farm.

She married Walter T. Church on Nov. 16, 1919. They farmed in Polk County for several years and in the Clarks area until Mr. Church's death in 1962. Mrs. Church lived on the farm until 1965, when she moved to Clarks. In 1997, she moved to Long-term Care in Central City.

Mrs. Church attended the Methodist Church in Clarks and was a member of the Senior Center in Clarks. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, flowers, embroidery and handiwork.

Survivors include four sons, Forrest Church, Dean Church and Harold Church, all of Clarks, and Ron Church of Central City; eight daughters, Blanche Shively, Faye Greger, Donna (Mrs. Eldon) Reisener and Alice (Mrs. Denny) Faeh, all of Central City, Berniece Plumbtree of Fullerton, Erma Miller of Hordville and Sharon (Mrs. Arthur) Lambert and Twyla (Mrs. Joe) Mingus, both of York; 38 grandchildren; 61 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three sons, Arnold, Jack and Milford Church; one daughter, Betty Gulbrandson; five grandchildren; six stepbrothers and stepsisters; and three brothers.
