Juan Monzon-Alvarado

Juan Monzon-Alvarado, 36, of Grand Island, died Jan. 29, 2000 in Grand Island.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The Rev. Jose Chavez will officiate.

Following the service the body will be shipped to Guatemala.

Mr. Monzon-Alvarado was born icon April 2, 1963, in Rio Hondo, Guatemala to Esteban Monzon and Genoveva Alvarado.

Survivors include his family in Guatemala.

Alexander Pashkevch

Alexander "Al Patsch" Pashkevch, 85, of Grand Island, formerly of McCook, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2000, at St. Francis Hospital.

Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the McCook Cemetery. The Rev. Gary Brethour will officiate.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Carpenter-Breland Funeral Home in McCook.

Mr. Pashkevch was born icon March 13, 1914, at Canonsberg, Pa. to Tards and Michalina (Bardsieick) Pashkevch.

He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army serving in the 41st Bombardment Squadron.

He worked for the railroad at Butler's Beef Acres and various other jobs in McCook.

He married Nellie Schmidt at Ravenna.

He was a member of the American Legion of McCook and the Eagles Club in Grand Island.

Survivors include a stepdaughter, Fayona (Mrs. Glenn) Watts of Grand Island; a sister, Ann Summers of McMurry, Pa; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a special friend, LouAnnah Eaton of Grand Island.

He was preceded in death by two stepsons, Harold and Ruben Schmidt and stepdaughter, Bonnie Jean Knight.

Jay Leininger

DONIPHAN -- Jay E. Leininger, 57, of Doniphan died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Doniphan United Methodist Church. The Rev. Kenneth L. McClain Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar View Cemetery at Doniphan.

Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials are suggested to the Doniphan Volunteer Fire Department, Doniphan Quick Response Team and National Jewish Medical Research Center in Denver.

Mr. Leininger was born icon on June 7, 1942, at Laramie, Wyo., to Gerald and Marie (Brown) Leininger. He attended schools in Kirbyville and Hollister, Mo. He later moved to Branson, Mo., and to Grand Island in 1955. He graduated from Grand Island Senior High in 1961.

He began working for Sears Farm Store in high school and was automotive manager until he entered the service.

He married Glenda J. Powers on Aug. 18, 1963, in Grand Island.

He entered the U.S. Army on Feb. 24, 1966, and served with Troop B, 1st Squadron, 14th Armed Cavalry. He was discharged on Feb. 4, 1968. The couple returned to Nebraska, where he worked for Sears Farm Store.

He began farming near Polk in 1970. The couple moved to Doniphan. He worked for Grand Island Upholstery and Boughton Equipment. He began L&B Remodeling in the early 1980s in Doniphan and Jay's Carpentry in 1986 and was in business until his death.

He was a member of Eagles Aerie 378 and the Doniphan American Legion and a past member of the Doniphan Fire Department.

He enjoyed car races, football, fishing, hunting and camping and boating with his family. Two days before his death, he completed a pretransplant lung evaluation at BryanLGH Medical Center in Lincoln.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Kimberly S. (Mrs. Doug) Vaske of Centerton, Ark., and Kelly J. Leininger and fiancé Jeff Stolzer of Lincoln; one grandson; one brother, Lee Leininger of Payson, Ariz.; and one sister, Janice (Mrs. Ben) Matchett of Albion.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Judy Faulkner.

Donald Marsh

COMSTOCK -- Donald E. Marsh, 61, of Comstock died Monday, Feb. 7, 2000, at Jennie M. Melham Medical Center in Broken Bow.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Rhoad Funeral Chapel in Sargent. The Rev. Marty Robbins will officiate. Burial will be in Douglas Grove Cemetery at Comstock.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the Comstock Fire Department.

Ivan Schroeder

ALBION -- Ivan G. Schroeder, 82, of Albion died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2000, at Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center in Albion.

Services are pending with Levander Funeral Home in Albion.

Leslie Seery

RAVENNA -- Leslie Seery, 76, of Ravenna, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2000, at Box Butte General Hospital in Alliance.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Rasmussen Mortuary in Ravenna. The Rev. Mark Cadenbach will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery in Ravenna. Memorials are suggested to Prairie Haven Hospice at Alliance or the American Cancer Society.

Mr. Seery was born icon July 9, 1923, on the family farm near St. Michael to Ely and Ella (Schultz) Seery. He attended school at St. Michael.

He married Letha Seifert on Oct. 10, 1943. The couple lived and farmed in Buffalo County and Mr. Seery also worked for Cairo Plumbing and Well Drilling until his retirement. He continued farming until November 1999, at which time he went to live with his daughter in Alliance.

His greatest joys were his farm and his family.

Survivors include one son, Dennis of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; one daughter, Linda (Mrs. Dick) McCune of Alliance; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren; and three stepgreat-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 1982; an infant son; three sisters, Fern, Etta and Effie; and two brothers, Lloyd and Harold.

Dean Shoup

SUTHERLIN, Ore. -- Dean L. Shoup, 76, of Sutherlin, Ore., formerly of Central City, died Feb. 2, 2000, at a Roseburg, Ore. hospital.

A private family memorial was held at Chapel of the Firs in Sutherlin. Inurnment will be in the San Joaquin National Cemetery at Santa Nella, Calif.

Mr. Shoup was born icon March 6, 1923, in Pawnee City to Vernon and Hannah Shoup. He grew up on his family's farm outside of Central City and left after graduating from high school.

He married Jimmie Leona Harrell on Jan. 16, 1943, in Long Beach, Calif. He worked at Douglas Aircraft in Long Beach.

He served in the 8th Air Force as a mechanic on B-24 bombers from 1943 to 1946 and was stationed in Riverside, Calif., Newark, N.J., Boise, Idaho and Portland, Ore.

After his discharge the couple moved to Merced, Calif., where he built horse trailers. In 1948 the family moved back to Central City and farmed on Prairie Island. In 1955, they moved to California and he worked at the John Deere Co. parts depot, first in Los Angeles and later in Stockton.

They moved back to the family farm in 1960. In 1962 the family went back to Stockton where he worked for Hesston Farm Equipment as a service manager. The farm equipment company transferred them to Visalia, Calif., then back to Stockton, Portland, Ore., Lincoln and Newton, Kan.

When he left Hesston, the couple moved back to Stockton, settling in Tracy, Calif. He worked for the City of Tracy until Dec. 31, 1986, retiring as the landfill supervisor.

The Shoups enjoyed their retirement by traveling in their RV for four and one-half years. They moved to Sutherlin, Ore. on June 26, 1990.

He was active in scouting, serving as cubmaster, scoutmaster and was a district commissioner in Southern San Joaquin County, Calif.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Bob of Stockton, Calif., Ed of Lodi, Calif. and Mike of Las Vegas, Nev.; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one brother, Emmett of Clarks.

He was preceded in death by his wife; one sister, Louella; and two brothers, his twin, Don and Norman.

Duane Smith

CHICO, Calif. -- Duane K. Smith, 68, of Chico, Calif., formerly of Grand Island, died Jan. 25, 2000.

Memorial services were held Jan. 29 at the Eagles Hall in Chico, Calif.

Mr. Smith was born icon Dec. 22, 1931, to George W. and Cheryl Smith in Hendley. He graduated from Grand Island Senior High School in 1949 where he played football. After graduation he attended Doane College in Crete. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1955, most of the time in the Philippines.

He married Margaret Ellen Murray on Oct. 10, 1959. Mrs. Smith preceded him in death on May 30, 1975.

On Dec. 5, 1977, he married Sonia Padden in Reno, Nev. Mr. Smith worked as a salesman in various fields.

He was a member of the Eagles Aerie No. 218. He enjoyed golfing and dancing.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Teresa (Mrs. Dave) Warren of Chino Hills, Calif., Kathleen (Mrs. Paul) Khashmanian of Rubidoux, Calif. and Sandra (Mrs. Ed) Gowen of Spoken, Wash.; two stepdaughters, Vickie Watkins of Missouri and Kim Rocheleau of Chico, Calif.; one stepson, Bryan Stout of Austin, Texas; one sister, Dolores (Mrs. Max) Scheel of South Jordan, Utah; and 16 grandchildren.

William Bosworth

William H. Bosworth, 97, of Grand Island died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, at Park Place Health Care and Rehab Center.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. The Rev. George Wheat will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the Parkinson's Foundation or the Diabetes Association.

Mr. Bosworth was born icon on Oct. 2, 1902, in Central City to William Thomas and Pearl Jane (Hammock) Bosworth. He moved with his parents to Oregon and was educated in Lakeview, Ore., schools. The family moved to Burwell in 1918 and farmed in that area.

He married Fannie De Mary on April 28, 1923, at O'Neill. They moved to Grand Island in 1926. He worked for many years for the Grand Island Livestock Co. and later for the Grand Island Wholesale Co. He later worked for the Grand Island Engineering Department, retiring in 1965.

Mr. Bosworth enjoyed gardening, farming and fishing.

Survivors include two nephews and three nieces, including Rose (Mrs. Glen) Lemburg of Grand Island; and a brother, Harold Bosworth of Kansas City, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his wife, four sisters and one brother.
