Elsie Reher

ROSEVILLE, Mich. -- Elsie (Goettsche) Reher, 87, of Roseville, Mich., formerly of Grand Island, died Monday, Jan. 17, 2000, at Harper Hospital in Detroit.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Messiah Lutheran Church in Grand Island. The Rev. Doug Stensby will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.

Mrs. Reher was born icon on Aug. 2, 1912, in Grand Island to Christian and Sophia Goettsche. She grew up in Grand Island and was educated here. She graduated from Grand Island Senior High.

She graduated from Haris College of Nursing in Fort Worth, Texas. She worked as a nurse until her retirement.

Following a serious illness, she had lived with her son for the past 10 years.

She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church.

Survivors include one son, Dr. Randall Reher of Roseville, Mich.; one daughter, Val Jean Hide of Houston; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two husbands; one stepson, Gerald Reher; seven brothers, William, John, Rudolph, Henry, Clarence, Bernard and an infant brother; and two sisters, Lena Goettsche and Ella Goettsche.

Petra Banda-Ramos

Petra C. Banda-Ramos, 2 1/2-month-old daughter of Julio and Maribel (Ramos) Banda of Grand Island, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2000, at Children's Hospital in Omaha.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The Rev. Jose Chavez will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m., with a 4 p.m. rosary, Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the family.

Petra was born icon on Oct. 20, 1999, at Grand Island.

Survivors include her parents; two brothers, Luis Banda-Ramos and Julio Banda-Ramos, both of Grand Island; one sister, Aileen Banda-Ramos of Grand Island; and three grandparents, Luis and Josefina Sanchez Ramos of Grand Island and Petra Ramirez.

She was preceded in death by her grandfather.

Clarence Dean

Clarence O. Dean, 60, of Grand Island died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Robert Harms officiating. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.

A family prayer service will be at 9:45 a.m. the day of the service. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.

Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.

Maxine Drevsen

Maxine L. Drevsen, 77, of Grand Island died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Chapel with the Rev. C. Roger Nelson officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to the Cancer Society.

Mrs. Drevsen was born icon on Feb. 24, 1922, in Stromsburg to William H. and Hazel Grobe. She grew up in that area and graduated from high school in 1939.

She married Delmar L. Drevsen on Aug. 26, 1951, in Park Rapids, Minn. The couple lived in Grand Island, where Mrs. Drevsen worked at Bill's Trading Post as a cashier.

She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church and enjoyed traveling and Cornhusker football games.

Survivors include her husband.

She was preceded in death by one son, Francis Drevsen; and one sister.

Blanche McKinstry

Blanche V. McKinstry, 80, of Grand Island, formerly of Julesburg, Colo., died Monday, Jan. 17, 2000, at Lakeview Nursing Center.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Berean Lutheran Church at Chappell. The Rev. Keith Pfeifly will officiate.

Mrs. McKinstry was born icon Nov. 27, 1919, in Deuel County to Edward and Amanda Blanche (Jacobson) Olson. She graduated in 1938 at Chappell. She taught school for a number of years.

She married Clarence Porter on Dec. 20, 1941, and lived and farmed in Deuel County. Mr. Porter died on Feb. 19, 1974. She lived on the farm for two more years.

She moved to Julesburg, Colo. She worked at Gambles and also sold Sarah Coventry jewelry.

She married Blair McKinstry on Sept. 18, 1976. They lived in Julesburg until November 1998 when they moved to Grand Island to be closer to her daughter.

She was active in the Beren Lutheran Church and numerous clubs.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Burt and Lee; and one daughter, Connie; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Evelyn (Mrs. Duke) Barnes of St. Paul and Betty Krems of Golden, Colo.

In addition to her first husband, she was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers.

Keith Gustafson

PHILLIPS - Keith Gustafson, 77, of Phillips died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000, at Memorial Hospital in Aurora.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Monroe Evangelical Free Church north of Murphy. Burial will be in Monroe Evangelical Free Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Higby Mortuary in Aurora.

Edwina Haggerty

SPALDING - Edwina R. Haggerty, 87, of Spalding, died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000, at her home in Spalding.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Spalding. The Revs. Joe Hannapel, Frank Hoelck, James Murphy and Jacob Bauer will officiate.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday with rosaries at 4:30 and 7 p.m. at St. Michael's Church. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery.

Dolores Harrahill

GREELEY - Dolores Harrahill, 86, of Greeley died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000, at her home.

Services are pending at T.J. Finn and Sons Mortuary.

Emma Kruml

TAYLOR - Emma Martha Kruml, 88, of Taylor, died Monday, Jan. 17, 2000, at the Valley County Hospital in Ord.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Eberle-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell. The Rev. Rolly Salts will officiate. Burial will be in Cottonwood Cemetery in Burwell.

Visitation will be one hour prior to service time on Thursday.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Marvin Melland

ALBION - Marvin O. Melland, 88, of rural Albion died Monday, Jan. 17, 2000, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Grand Island.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Immanuel Zion Lutheran Church in rural Albion. The Rev. Orlando Gunderson will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Albion with military rites conducted by American Legion Post 162 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 736, both of Albion.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Levander Funeral Home in Albion.

Mr. Melland was born icon on March 16, 1911, at Newman Grove to Christ and Nettie (Juleson) Melland. He attended Madison County schools. He joined the U.S. Army on July 25, 1940, served in northern France and was awarded the American Defense Service Ribbon and the Good Conduct Medal.

He married Charlene Hill on May 3, 1944, at Little Rock, Ark. After his discharge on July 28, 1945, the couple moved to Albion. They farmed northeast of town. They moved to Arkansas in 1963 and lived there for a short time before returning to Boone County, where he farmed until retiring in the 1970s.

Mr. Melland was a longtime member of Immanuel Zion Lutheran Church of rural Albion and was a member of the Bible study group for many years. He also was a lifetime member of the VFW, American Legion and Disabled American Veterans.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Byron Melland and John W. Ridgeway, both of Oklahoma, and Jim Ridgeway of Albion; one daughter, Ann (Mrs. Frank) Deeter of Gig Harbor, Wash.; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two brothers, Rueben Melland of Michigan and Byron Melland of Texas; and four sisters, Marie (Mrs. Lester) Traas of South Carolina, Norma Schroeder and Ruth (Mrs. Jerry) Harder, both of Omaha, and Lois (Mrs. Andy) Rushford of Florida.

A daughter, Marvell Melland, died on Dec. 11, 1977. He also was preceded in death by two grandchildren.

Hazel Ott

GILTNER - Hazel L. Ott, 82, of Giltner, died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Eva Rice

ORD - Eva Esther Rice, 71, of Ord died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island as a result of an auto accident.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Mira Valley Methodist Church south of Ord. The Rev. Murry Johnston will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Ord Memorial Chapel.

Memorials are suggested to the Ord Rescue Unit or the Myra Valley Methodist church.

Mrs. Rice was born icon Feb. 16, 1928, in the Mira Valley area south of Ord to Irving and Esther (Ingerson) King. She grew up in the Mira Valley and attended the Vinton Country School. In 1945 she graduated from Ord High School. She received Normal Training to be a teacher. She taught at the Vinton Country School and substituted at the Hard Scrabble Country School.

On Nov. 2, 1947, she married Marvin Rice at the Mira Valley EUB Church south of Ord. The couple spent the first part of their married life on the Ball's Ranch in the Mira Valley area. They then farmed in several areas of Mira Valley before purchasing their own farm where they farmed and ranched for the past 35 years.

Mrs. Rice was a member of the Mira Valley Methodist Church, the Jolly Neighbors Extension Club and the Prairie Promenaders Square Dance Club. She enjoyed gardening, caring for all kinds of animals, sewing, crafts and working on the family farm.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Ron of Berwyn and Mike of Ord; two daughters, Eileen of Albuquerque, N.M. and Joyce of Ord; seven grandchildren; and one sister, Thelma Harkness of Ord.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Harold King and an infant sister, Neola King.
